I'm okay with clearing the area to the South first. However, I don't like the idea of leaving open areas behind us. It invites an attack from both sides. Therefore, we should do the upstairs by accessing the ladders before going to town on the padlock.
Narvik Drak
|
Makes sense. At least for now we agree on clearing out the south area so we can move on that notion. Something new may change what we do next.
Tarrow
|
Tarrow waves Kelvor over "Lets form up by the south door."
Tarrow takes a quick look for any traps on the south door.
Perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (8) + 5 = 13
Once everyone is in place we open the south door
Pribam Pey
|
Pribam draws his wand of web and takes cover behind one of the busts while he waits for his companions to open the South doors.
Armun Govil
|
Armun positions himself, bow at the ready. He watches and waits for the door to open.
Kelvor of the Shundar-Quah
|
Kelvor carefully opens the door, ready for whatever he finds next. His hammer ready, he opens...
Rene Duquesnoy
|
The door creeeeeks open. You don't see anything moving, but you see 3 plates of partially consumed food sitting on a table. You are guessing that whatever was guarding the front door, is probably laying dead in the hallway of hobgoblin bodies.
Armun Govil
|
"Well, seems our front door escape route is open for us. Let's get to that locked door, and see what Tarrow can do to open it."
Tarrow
|
Thinking to himself, "It is unlikely there will be any sensitive information in the entry way of the keep, it is best to look."
Tarrow scans the room to the south.
perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (20) + 5 = 25
If the is nothing of note Tarrow will again voice his interest in the padlocked door. "Give me 1 minute with that lock and I can get it open."
If the party does not want to deal with the padlocked door, Tarrow will suggest entering the secret route and climbing a ladder to the second floor.
Armun Govil
|
"Go for it, Tarrow. If you can open it, I want to know what's on the other side of it."
Tarrow

| 1 person marked this as a favorite. |
Walking toward the padlocked door, whispering to Armun " IF I can open it? Does a Hobgoblin sh*t in the woods? Now we might be unpleasently surprised by what we find inside, but hell we are here to CLEAR the keep, and by Desna's wings that's what we'll do."
Moving in marching order, except Kelvor and I reversed, Tarrow spends a minute on the padlock, on the padlocked door(east corridor).
10 rounds 1d3 damage from adamantine bolt, minimum damage 10, max 30, average 20
Rene Duquesnoy
|
I assume going through the padlock is what everyone agrees on
You break the lock. The flagstone tiles of this room have all been pulled up and lie stacked against the walls. The room has been completely excavated, and picks and shovels still lie scattered about. The digging has unearthed an old circular staircase made of a lighter stone than the rest of the keep. The staircase begins at the bottom of a seven-foot-deep pit accessed by a short ladder, and leads down into darkness.
Narvik Drak
|
What is this? An old catacomb underneath the keep? How did they know about this? Narvik asks. Well, now what do we do? Go down or go up?
Pribam Pey
|
Having left his ioun torch with the...potential converts...Pribam casts around for a light source the party can take down into the dark.
Are there any everburning torches or other continual light sources here on the ground floor that we could remove and take with us? The interior spaces seem to have no windows, so the servants must be doing something for light.
Pribam Pey
|
"The snake said it would tell us the answers to riddles and 'what lies beneath,' if we kill that Fethi for it. We may want to go up before going down, if you want to listen to the snake."
Armun Govil
|
"Agreed. Let's go up before we go down. Talk of riddles has me reticent to find a challenge we're not fully prepared for."
Pribam Pey
|
"Which route shall we take? Either of the two ladders or the stairs?"
Tarrow
|
"Catacombs, very dangerous. Yes I think we should go up first. I suggest the ladder so we might surprise the residents of the keep, if they are expecting us to come up the staircase."
IF the party is willing, Tarrow leads the group to the ladder within the secret path.
Tarrow will go up first.
Pribam Pey
|
"Gentlemen, it appears we are agreed. Let us climb. May the Living Good look favorably upon our efforts."
Pribam restows all of his wands in preparation for climbing.
Rene Duquesnoy
|
There are continual flame torches throughout the keep. Tarrow climbs up the ladder to what appears to be an armory. There are various armors on display, all light or medium.
Pribam Pey
|
Pribam grabs two continual flame torches, placing one in his bag of holding as a backup. He holds the other in his left hand, and attaches a weapon cord to it so that it can dangle free as he climbs.
Tarrow
|
Can you update the map?
If it appears to be safe I will wave/whisper the rest of the party up.
Tarrow peers around the room to get the layout, careful not to disturb any of the armor.
Perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (6) + 5 = 11

Pribam casts detect magic before scaling the ladder, scanning the armory once he enters.

Map updated, please scroll down
Tarrow does a quick search and doesn't see anything.
Pribam Pey
|
Pribam points at Tarrow and whispers, "They pulled all of this armor up a ladder at the end of a secret tunnel? That seems odd."
Rene Duquesnoy
|
As Pribam scans the room with a detect magic spell, he notices a small ring faintly glowing. With a quick spellcraft check, it is identified as a ring of protection +1.
Pribam Pey
|
Pribam taps Tarrow on the shoulder, points to the ring, and gestures for him to put it on, whispering "If you're going to take point, you should be protected."

If Kelvor does not need the ring I will wear it, if there are no other objections.
Tarrow
|
Regular marching order we pop the door. I feel kinda weird putting Kelvor first as he is not here. So until he checks in I will take point.
Tarrow opens the secret door and peers out, if it is clear he exits the armory.
Rene Duquesnoy

Tarrow pops open the door. Open to the sky, this rampart looks out across not only the keep’s main gate, but also the river valley below and dark forest beyond. A large iron grate, ten feet by twenty feet, has been installed in the center of the rampart’s tiles near a large cauldron placed over a fire pit. The cauldron contains traces of a viscous, oily substance, but is otherwise empty. Three exits grant access to this rampart: two trap doors on either side of the grate lead down, while a set of solid double doors stands to the north.
There are 3 hobgoblin archers here.

Either Tarrow or Kelvor has a higher AC by 1, if Tarrow that second arrow missed.
