Armun Govil |
If nobody minds, I'm going to move us all on the map to where the secret door is, putting us in our marching order (Kelvor, Tarrow, Armun, Narvik, Pribam). Cool?
Rene Duquesnoy |
The western door opens, and more hobgoblins pour out. They have swords and bows.
Inits
Kelvor: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (20) + 1 = 21
Pribam: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (15) - 1 = 14
Tarrow: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (16) + 6 = 22
Narvik: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (15) + 1 = 16
Armun: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9
Hobbes: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4
Heroes up, then Hobgoblins.
DC15 perception
Rene Duquesnoy |
Technically, they hobgoblins came out 20ish seconds after the horn blew. I don't think you would make it to the secret passage while healing yourselves. I will let you place your pogs in any order and with 1 person in the east hallway.
Narvik Drak |
Narvik will cast Murderous Command on the first hobgoblin, hoping he'll turn around and attack the one behind him!
DC Will 14 to negate.
Perception: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (18) + 3 = 21
The doors are open in the hallway! Expect more enemies!
Tarrow |
I have moved the pogs, please change your position if you would like to be elsewhere.
Tarrow hears the door to the west open and turns and fires at the lead Hobgoblin. As usual if the first shot kills the hobgoblin, the next shot to the nearest hobgoblin.
Point Blank + Rapid Shot
Attack: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (17) + 13 = 30
Damage: 1d10 + 4 + 1d6 ⇒ (1) + 4 + (5) = 10
Attack: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (8) + 13 = 21
Damage: 1d10 + 4 + 1d6 ⇒ (10) + 4 + (2) = 16
Tarrow says "Kelvor! Plug the door!"
And Tarrow 5 foot steps
Armun Govil |
Armun will move and cast Grease into the corridor (I marked of the area on the map). DC 13 Reflex or they fall down.
Kelvor of the Shundar-Quah |
If I still have a Round 2 action I will retrieve my wand of Cure Light Wounds from my spring-loaded wrist sheath and use it on Armun for [dice=CLW]d8+1.
If we now have a Round 3 to do something while we are formulating a plan I'll do it again on Kelvor for [dice=CLW]d8+1.
Ah, thank you, Narvik. Your blessing is much appreciated."
Kelvor of the Shundar-Quah |
"I agree with the latter plan. Let us change up the situation from what they would exp--"
Kelvor stops in midsentence, smelling the rank odor of hobgoblins. He turns and is moving, even as Tarrow shouts at him. The big Shoanti sees the tactical situation well and knows his role.
He charges to the doorway and swings mightily at the lead hobgoblin.
Pwr Atk: 1d20 + 11 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 11 + 2 + 1 = 20 Dmg: 2d6 + 17 ⇒ (2, 6) + 17 = 25
The above assumes a charge, plus the inspire from Pribam.
Although the map shows the door straddling two squares, Kelvor would like to block it, if possible. Of course, standing by and allowing hobgoblins to walk past and incur an AoO would be acceptable, too. :-) Tell me how you will handle.
Pribam Pey |
We dropped out of rounds, so Pribam would have dropped the inspire. He has very few rounds per day.
Pribam draws pulls one of the two smaller orbs off of the golden holy relic necklace around his neck and casts it into the hallway, calling "Razmir, rain fire on thy foes!"
Pribam aims the sphere so it lands just behind the last visible hobgoblin on the map, so the fireball should fill the entire corridor and bloom into rooms where doors are open, if Narvik is right about that.
Fireball Damage: 3d6 ⇒ (1, 5, 3) = 9
The fireball requires a DC 14 reflex save for half damage.
Pribam then moves toward the opening of the room with the stairs up, staying behind the corner for cover, to watch for reinforcements from that direction.
Rene Duquesnoy |
Tarrow whips 2 arrows into the eye sockets of the front hobgoblin, taking him down.
ref: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (16) + 3 = 19
ref: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (10) + 3 = 13
Grease is cast on the area under the center 2 but they are able to keep their balance. However, Kelvor charges in and eviscerates one of them. A head flys, and there is much rejoicing.
Pribam tosses a fireball bead into the hallway (I assume you want me to place it, if not please move it). It explodes on a hobby and lights the grease under him.
ref: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9
ref: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (17) + 3 = 20
ref: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (10) + 3 = 13
ref: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (7) + 3 = 10
The one under the grease takes half damage, but is on fire. so...ow!
Also, you hear screams from the open doorways.
Baddies up.
The one on fire backs up to get a better shot out of the fire..
The one in grease tries to get out (half speed dc10 acrobatics)
1d20 + 3 ⇒ (10) + 3 = 13
a few arrows to Kelvor
Rapid shot
1d20 + 3 ⇒ (15) + 3 = 18
1d8 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 2 = 9
1d20 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5
1d8 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5
normal shots
1d20 + 5 ⇒ (17) + 5 = 22
1d8 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5
1d20 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7
1d8 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5
1d20 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 5 = 9
1d8 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5
Most arrows sail wide, but one connects for 5 points. (actually 6 with point blank shot)
Heroes up.
Pribam Pey |
I bought and tried to apply a fireball template, but it appears only GMs can do the latter. I tried moving the dot you put in, but couldn't figure it out. So I drew the outline in freehand.
Pribam moves back in line with the hallway and lets a second small fireball fly.
Fireball damage: 3d6 ⇒ (6, 1, 6) = 13
"Feel the wrath of the Living God!" he intones.
Armun Govil |
Armun will move up behind the bottleneck known as Kelvor, and fire off two quick arrows at the closest hobgoblin.
Attack 1: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (18) + 4 = 22
Damage: 1d8 + 5 ⇒ (8) + 5 = 13
Attack 2: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 11
Damage: 1d8 + 5 ⇒ (6) + 5 = 11
Cover (by Kelvor) is factored in those rolls. As is Point Blank Shot, Rapid Shot, and Arcane Strike.
Armun Govil |
Sorry, just the first attack applies, with a +2 to the roll. Can't Rapid Shot and move. My bad.
Rene Duquesnoy |
You don't have cover from Kelvor since he is closer to you. However that doesn't help.
The first arrow hits, the second tickles.
Narvik Drak |
With my round 2 action I'll return fire with the crossbow, aiming for the first one in the line!
XBow: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (12) + 5 = 17 for Bolt: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5
Kelvor of the Shundar-Quah |
Kelvor grimaces against the hated fire and heat. Despite his bravery during his Burn Run, he has never truly recovered from the memory of his flesh melting.
"NAVRIK! HEAL ME! If the priest's fire stops, they'll start shooting at me again soon. And I can't move up through the burning grease!" he shouts to the half-orc behind him.
"TARROW! ARMUN! Are we about to be flanked?"
Pribam Pey |
"They won't be shooting for long, Ambassador", Pribam calls out confidently.
Kelvor of the Shundar-Quah |
Kelvor notices Narvik's shot fly over his shoulder and recalls yet another of the 101 War Proverbs of the Shoanti:
Bring every earthbreaker into the fight.
Smart move by the half-orc, thinks Kelvor. Tarrow is a much better bowmaster and can probably shoot blindfolded and hit these creatures. But Navrik knows he needs to be closer. There are hidden depths of wisdom to the Limping One, by Sun and Sky!
Tarrow |
I am mobile and can't see the map
Tarrow in the heat of battle rapidly reload and fires again!
Point blank + Rapid shot
Attk: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (20) + 13 = 33
Dmg: 1d10 + 4 + 1d6 ⇒ (9) + 4 + (5) = 18
To confirm crit threat...
Attk: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (18) + 13 = 31
Dmg: 1d10 + 4 + 1d6 ⇒ (5) + 4 + (3) = 12
Attk: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (18) + 13 = 31
Dmg: 1d10 + 4 + 1d6 ⇒ (9) + 4 + (2) = 15
Tarrow will five foot step to reduce cover if possible, cover penalties not accounted for in these rolls.
Rene Duquesnoy |
What happened to my spell? I assume I cast it on a guy that then got smashed before he could act?
Correct. That's why I didn't roll the save.
Rene Duquesnoy |

Narvik tags the front one for 5 points of damage. He is looking woozy, but still has a little fight left. unfortunately, Tarrow's bolt goes in the hobgoblin's chest, spins through his heart, hits a bone and turns left, goes through a kidney, plows into the liver, then travels through the small intestine. The hobgoblin blinks a few times, looks down, then realize that the feathers from Tarrow's bolt are coming out of both ears, both nostrils, his mouth, and a few other places. He looks like a kid who just got his favorite toy taken away. He falls over, and dies.
The second bolt takes out the next hobgoblin, but in less dramatic fashion. 2 more hobgoblins come into the passage. The first walks through the grease.
1d20 + 3 ⇒ (18) + 3 = 21
He makes it to Kelvor with a longsword.
1d20 + 6 ⇒ (14) + 6 = 20
1d8 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
Another appears with a longsword and tries to walk through the grease.
1d20 + 3 ⇒ (14) + 3 = 17
These hobgoblins must work for the circus as they have great balance. This one just waits and fumes.
The last bowman will shoot at Kelvor (before the others move in the way) with PBS.
1d20 + 5 + 1 ⇒ (13) + 5 + 1 = 19
1d8 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5
Kelvor takes 9 points total, and the hobgoblins prepare to meet their doom.
Heroes up.
Pribam Pey |
Did the hobgoblins make saves against, and sustain damage from, the second fireball?
Pribam draws his the wand of web that the Acolytes of the Fifth Step entrusted to him. He takes aim and calls forth the sticky mess in the same area as the previous fireballs, pinning the hobgoblins.
The Reflex DC to save against the web is 13, since it comes from a wand.
Pribam then ducks back into the hall that the PCs initially explored.
Kelvor of the Shundar-Quah |
<thunk!> <thunk!>
Kelvor jerks slightly as the arrows blast into him. He struggles to ignore the arrows, adjusting the swing of his mighty earthbreaker slightly to avoid the protruding shafts.
Pwr Atk: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (5) + 11 = 16 Dmg: 2d6 + 17 ⇒ (1, 5) + 17 = 23
Kelvor of the Shundar-Quah |
I bought and tried to apply a fireball template, but it appears only GMs can do the latter.
You can buy templates on roll20? cool! how?
Rene Duquesnoy |
[ooc]Did the hobgoblins make saves against, and sustain damage from, the second fireball?.
Multitask fail!
They will take the damage. However, I think that is the first damage the have taken. (On phone on a train)
Pribam Pey |
Given that the one hobgoblin is standing in the flaming grease, and since the webs burn to cause 2d4 damage, here is the damage roll for that hobgoblin. I assume that the two squares of web that covered the grease burn clear. Does the web adjacent to those squares start to catch fire?
Burning Web Damage: 2d4 ⇒ (3, 1) = 4 fire damage
Pribam Pey |
No problem, I am no stranger to multitasking fails myself, as you well know!
Pribam Pey |
I googled it. I'll email you a link! You can also upload your own art. But it appears that only judges can place it.
Narvik Drak |
Narvik will grab his wand of Cure Light Wounds from his wrist sheath and tap Kelvor with it, healing him for CLW: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7 hit points.
Armun Govil |
Armun will continue firing arrows. He's aiming his arrows at the second hobgoblin (so Kelvor still has a target to hit).
Attack 1: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (11) + 8 = 19
Damage: 1d8 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8
Attack 2: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (20) + 8 = 28
Damage: 1d8 + 5 ⇒ (6) + 5 = 11
If the first arrow kills, the second will go to the far hobgoblin.
Point Blank, Rapid Shot, and Arcane Strike factored in. Cover bonus to AC applies now though, I'm sure.
Tarrow |
Heroes up.
Tarrow reloads and lets fly, he aims Hobgoblin at the back and will pick targets moving forward as they die.
Point Blank + Rapid Shot
Attack: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (6) + 13 = 19
Damage: 1d10 + 5 + 1d6 ⇒ (1) + 5 + (5) = 11
Attack: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (11) + 13 = 24
Damage: 1d10 + 5 + 1d6 ⇒ (10) + 5 + (2) = 17
I had been cheating myself out of 1 point of damage from point blank, not that it mattered before :>

Arrowss and bolts fill the sky, and fire fills part of the floor. the hobgoblins fall faster then ms feathers in a bedroom. not since the great clan war fo AR 4634 has a group of hobgoblins died this quickly.
all dead. off initiative. it is much quieter.
Tarrow |
Assuming there is not an on going blaze down the west hallwway...
Tarrow will check on Kelvor's health as he took the brunt of the hobgoblin assault. "You fought well Shoanti."
And usher the party into the west hallway, having the door closed behind the party.
Tarrow [and presumably the party] will search the area and corpses, for treasure, clues and a key to the door down the East passage.
Percpetion: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (12) + 5 = 17
Narvik Drak |
Narvik will use his wand on Kelvor as much as is needed. Go ahead and roll the charges needed and I'll deduct from my wand, or your wand if you have one, either way. Narvik will then replace his wand into his spring-loaded wrist sheath.
Quickly, look for keys and such.
Pribam Pey |
"Save your wand for combat, Narvik." Pribam stows his wand of web, draws his wand of infernal healing and heals Kelvor with it. Pribam them peers through his deathwatch eyes to see whether any of the other party members are still wounded. If they are, he heals them, too.
I went through the posts and think everyone is healed to full with 1 application of infernal healing. However, if that's not the case, let me know and I'll mark off more infernal healing charges.
"Narvik, we should look for treasure to offer up as sacrifice to our gods, too."
While the party is searching the rooms, Pribam recasts message on everyone as before.
Narvik Drak |
Narvik nods to the man in agreement. Yes, indeed. While treasure for "sacrifice" is useful, I am hopeful we'll find a key among the dead.
Kelvor of the Shundar-Quah |
"Companions, we will be overwhelmed again, soon. Let us search, quickly, and retreat and hide, as we considered before the enemy attacked," says Kelvor as he feels his wounds heal. It feels odd to the big Shoanti.
He feels... disgust, as his wounds close. Something wrong, something evil there, he thinks to himself. Kelvor glances at the Razmiran priest, wondering...
Pribam Pey |
"A little trick that Razmir stole from infernal beings and taught his clergy. It is a very reliable form of healing when time is not an issue. I assure you, the effect will pass when the spell is finished healing you."
Pribam Pey |
"Perhaps we should search the room with the stairs as well." Pribam moves over there and begins searching thoroughly.
Taking 20, he gets an 18 on his Perception check, if one is necessary.
Tarrow |
sorry...we waiting on me?
yes. : ) Please update the map to show we have searched the West corridors and rooms.
Tarrow, satisfied there is nothing further to be found in the west corridor and rooms, hears the priest talk about searching the room with stairs leading up.
Tarrow whispers to the party, "Before we search the room with stairs we should go back and *open* that measly little padlock down the east corridor."
"Kelvor?"
Pribam Pey |
Pribam whispers back, "It would be unusual for something to come out of a padlocked room, wouldn't it? How would it open the lock? On the other hand, something may well come down the stairs." Pribam keeps searching over by the stairs, praying to the Living God that he isn't making a big mistake.
Kelvor of the Shundar-Quah |
"Priest, you are right. Nothing will likely come bursting forth from a padlocked room. But perhaps there is something of value in there. And if we continue here," Kelvor waves his arms about, indicating the room with the stairs upwards, "We may never have a chance to check that padlocked room."
Bonjour from Paris!
