do you take the gear for use and if so who takes what?

Alistair Maxwell |

Alistair will take his cloak and other identifying garments and hand them off to Cerian Grim I know but we may find this useful if we run into Celene elves.
He goes on to explain the elven house the garments belong to.

Cerian Screamingtrees |

Then certainly with his bow I will exact revenge on those that felled him. I dont have a use for the blade... would you care to skewer an orc or two upon it Alistair?
He asked quickly gathering whatever arrows the elves had as well. When this was done they would have to send a messenger to the family.

The group finds the orc trail with little problem. Cerian and Bonificious track the orcs through the forest as the others keep pace with the supplies. The trail leads them southward across a river and then westward towards the town of Berwyn. Along they way any woodland folk unlucky enough to come across the fleeing orcs get savagely cut down, wildlife, humans, halflings, animals.. anything. The group senses they are getting close to the orc army they are supposed to find as the litter the orcs leave increase in as they go further west.
After two days of tracking the group finds what they think is a guard outpost of the orcish army- a squad of orcs numbering around a dozen, sitting around a fire roasting some sort of meat. The orcs face outward towards the east, in the direction you all are travelling. Sounds of tress being felled echo through the forest and other sounds of a large camp is heard further to the west.
how do you wish to proceed?

Mogwag |

Before attacking anything Mogwag suggest we do some searching around to know exactly how many and where at the différents orcs. We could circle around the watch tower get a fix on the location of the large camp. What would be really interesting is if we could get to the machine they are building with the trees

Cerian Screamingtrees |

Now seems as good a time as any to prep a battlefield. What I would like to do is set up my friends here in positions, layout our traps and lead the orcs into a baited ambush...
Indeed those of you not skilled in stealth stay here, prepare a killing zone with the bear traps I'll circle around and try to get a count, if I run into trouble Listen for one of my whistling arrows. I shall head back here, hopefully the battlefield will be ready

Cerian Screamingtrees |

Okay guys my plan of attack is this, we set up bear traps in front of you all in the far bottom right corner.I have ten so like 2 a peice. I pop out into the open fire off an arrow, dart into the woods torwards you, they give chase we ambush them. Anyone else have anything to add or other ideas?

Alistair Maxwell |

Alistair sheathes the fancy blade "A bit more dainty than a man of the shield lands should typically wear, but alright i will carry it"
Alistair gives the plan a thumbs up and grips his mace, ready to move.

GM Qwerty |

After a quick search of the area the group realizes two things: 1- the orcs seem to be more disciplined in their warfare evidenced by setting pickets and guard post out although the orcs to their front still display haphazard discipline, and 2- felling trees to use in a siege. Everyone can agree that this is not normal orcish warfare behavior. As far as their immediate surrounding, the group sees a large gap between this group and the next closest groups implying it would take some time for the other guards to reach the battle if they come at all.

Cerian Screamingtrees |

So my plan would entail you all waiting behind the x which represent the 10 beartraps with Caltrops scattered between them. Even militerized orcs might be prone to send no more than a single runner for help if at all, i mean I am a lone elf.

Mogwag |

Cerian you should stay hidden in the direction of where the runner(s) would go to get help, so as to prevent any. Commit to the combat only when they our in our line. I hope the orcs commit more to their offense when they see such a small party.
DM just before combat do you think that we can cast 1 or 2 spell without the orcs hearing / noticing us ?

Cerian Screamingtrees |

to be honest part of me wants them to get more help and summon others, we are here to thin the herd and take pressure off the city, if that means 30 orcs are chasing us about the woods great! but if one of you wants to act as bait and have me wait i am okay with that as well

Mogwag |

I am more into thining the herd / causing as many problems as possible. The less we have searching for us the more we can stay in the field before heading to the city for the final combat. Taking out those siege tower/engin would be a great prize (or at least the men responsible for making them. That would be good intel to find out how they got their hands on it

Cerian Screamingtrees |

The edited plan I believe is I stay in hiding while they get the attention and drag them into the ambush point, I take out any orcs attempting to get help.
stealth: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (16) + 8 = 24

GM Qwerty |

Victrix yells to get their attention, but it appears the orcs did not hear her the first time. She yells a bit louder and finally catches the eye of one of the closer orcs. He manages to alert some of the others who then grab some weapons and walk closer to her speaking lowly in orcish about what to do with her if they capture her alive. It seems 6 orcs break away from the fire to move towards the red head. The others by the fire seem to egg them on.

GM Qwerty |

Orc Perception: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 1 = 8
The orcs advance towards the lone redhead until they see a half orc stand next to her which only enrages them to run faster and they
Cerian Stealth for traps: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (17) + 8 = 25
do not see the bear traps in front of them and four of them...
Bear Trap ATK vs blue: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (10) + 10 = 20...DMG: 2d6 + 3 ⇒ (1, 3) + 3 = 7
Bear Trap ATK vs red: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (11) + 10 = 21...DMG: 2d6 + 3 ⇒ (6, 1) + 3 = 10
Bear Trap ATK vs orange: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (14) + 10 = 24...DMG: 2d6 + 3 ⇒ (5, 6) + 3 = 14
Bear Trap ATK vs purple: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (15) + 10 = 25...DMG: 2d6 + 3 ⇒ (6, 4) + 3 = 13
get caught in the bear traps limiting their movement as they scream out in pain... the orange and purple orcs fall to the ground either bleeding out or with a severed foot...those two are essentially out of combat
Alistair:1d20 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7
Bonifacious:1d20 + 0 ⇒ (6) + 0 = 6
Cerian:1d20 + 5 ⇒ (8) + 5 = 13
Mogwag:1d20 - 1 ⇒ (9) - 1 = 8
Victrix:1d20 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3
Orcs:1d20 + 0 ⇒ (3) + 0 = 3

Once the orcs were on the move torwards the party he skirted forward keeping low and hopefully staying hidden so he could close on those with the camp fire in case they ran.
stealth: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (19) + 8 = 27
doublemove forward some
