As Eltaor rode, Rexus and his horse in hand, he sighed at the constant rambling of gold and commerce in Devarnish Always so interesting, and yet so common, how the powerful are brought to their knees by gold, until they've spun their wheels so much that they no longer need it, and bend it instead. Let's bend some gold, ha ha ha ha ha.
As the group sets for camp, Eltaor pets and rubs Rexus

Describe the wagons for me? are they cloth covered? open top? are they more like a carraige with a roof? The campsite, is it out in the open? woods?
For the majority of the trip to the city he was quiet, always off to the side or roving slightly behind or ahead of the caravan. Keeping his eyes peeled for any sort of problems. The city with all its motion and bustle made him bristle slightly. Even for all his time in the city of Greyhawk he was never entirely comfortable in larger cities. Still it was different and new, and so he loosely stared about the place a little wide eyed. Once they were back on the road again he resumed his duties.

Anchard Wulfphear |

"You there. Anchard called to the solitary Cerian roving off, behind at the time, "Anchard Wulfphear is my name, what is yours?

Cerian Screamingtrees |

He paused on one of returns to the caravan tilting his head ever so slightly to the man who beckoned him.
My name?
He began sounding, a mixture between confused and hesistant.Perhaps he was just unsused to people it was hard to be sure.
I am Cerian, of the Screamingtrees clan, in the Northern Phostwoods. A pleasure to meet you Anchard Wulfsphear.
He offered his eyes wandering over the man for a moment. Whatever he was looking for he seemed sastisfied and he offered the man a slight bow of his head and a light smile.
Good weather for traveling yes?
He added unsure of what else to say.

Anchard Wulfphear |

"It depends on one's circumstances," Anchard replied to Cerian, "good weather for us to travel, yes... for now anyway. The Phostwoods you said? As chance may have it, I'm from Pale, well one of many places I'm from. Is it true that the trees there give off light from the sap?" Anchard's inflection was rather monotone as his head and eyes scanned the surrounding horizon, and his face weary and tired but vigilant.

GM Qwerty |

@Cerian- covered wagons of simple goodstuffs a samll town would have need of. wood axes, sharpening stones, bags of grain, cloth bundles. Map is updated with campsite.
@Eltaor- are you spending time teaching Rexus tricks? if so which ones did he come with and which ones do you teach?
"Well I am beat." Kwizzle tells the group. "I am going to sleep now. Wake me if anything happens, just make sure it is important" and with that Kwizzle goes and pitches a small one man tent near his horse. His men separated their horses from yours and then collected fire wood to start a fire where they cook some food and heat some tea.

Cerian Screamingtrees |

His smile grew a bit more... Not really, but there sap... it attracts the hedfan tan ... ah... fireflys that eat the sap and give the appearance of glowing.
Like the human asking him the questions he kept his eyes alert...

Anchard Wulfphear |

"Fireflies?" Anchard is pleasantly surprised at this, "Really? I suppose that makes more sense."
As the party breaks down the caravan and prepares for camp Anchard continues his talk with Cerian, "So what brings you here? Aside from the will and ability to walk or ride that is. You're a long way from the Northern woods of the Phost."

Alistair Maxwell |

Alistair sings a song along the way, one telling the tale of the adventurers who traveled to a distant land through a mirror.
I present to you S-2 from the old Greyhawk Cycle, White Plume Mountain, a tale of magical weapons, treacherous dungeons and wonderful dragons and in a smooth baritone the song proceeds to describe the old story you may have heard once or twice or even felt in a distant memory.

Bonifacius the Bold |

Helping the man with the collection of firewoord and then setting up a nightcamp for himself the dwarf shakes his head at the discussion of his comrades.rm
Listening to Alistairs song the bard noisily joins in for the refrains, not with a good voice.. but with vigor!

Eltaor Toross |

As Bonifacius sings and gathers firewood, much to Eltaor's amusement with Rexus standing guard, he sighs Please, allow me to help. [b] [ooc] Fire Ray on Firewood
Revealing a small bit of his power, Eltaor uses his fire elemental bloodline to heat and quickly set the firewood ablaze with a grin Ah. I've been waiting to do something like that all day. All that talk of gold and commerce bored me to anxiety, if you know what I mean. He gave a crooked wink at Bonifacius as he began to prep some of his rations he had brought along for the trip.

1 person marked this as a favorite. |

@Eltaor- newly bought guard dogs come with Attack, defend, Down, Guard (standard guarding trick set), however dogs can learn 2 more tricks if you want to teach him.
A few of the caravan workers talk with the group but they have many tasks to perform prior to bed time. Some tend the horses, some make the fire and cook the food and jump back some when a stream of fire hits the wood thanks to the elven mage, some check the wagons and wheels. The caravan workers then eat their supper in wooden bowls and drink weak wine in wooden cups listening to Alistairs tale and wince when Bonificious begins to sing. After eating they tidy up their spots and prepare their bed rolls. one sleeping on the wagon and one sleeping next to the wagon. They let you know if you want to keep the fire going they will let it burn some more, but if not, they will put it out.

Cerian Screamingtrees |

He grimmaced for a moment when Anchard asked the question, he was prepared for such things but still.
Love brought me to the city, I had... fallen in love with a young half elven acolyte of Wee Jas, who had been up in the woods gathering alchemical items with a few others. She was assigned to serve in the temple there in the city so i followed. I had been doing simple labor there, and working on a few other skills when she was sent off with one of their higher clerics for some church related thing.
He paused for a long moment but not to catch his breath. It was apparent he was doing his best to frame the words in common as best he could.
Something went wrong on their trip...and her goddess called her to serve in higher planes...I will return home someday, no doubt, but not before I find answers on some things, and see others.
He said patting the man's shoulders to show that he took no offense to the question even if it brought up pain.

Cerian Screamingtrees |

Do the caravaners not worry about setting watches? or is that what we were hired for? regardless, I would suggest watches if they didnt and ask that they leave the fire glowing (to enhance my low light vision. Are the trees depictions accurate? are a couple of them deadish with not a lot of leafage? Sorry for all the questions. but Cerian would be spending his watch up in a heighted position like the tree, and one that offers that much visibility would be perfect.
Well then I assume it is time to rest. remember if you hear a high whistle, something is wrong.
I would be up for any shift if we are taking shifts, we do have two dwarves with their wonderful darkvision, and two elves with low light vision, and of course our human friends with neither? I would suggust two up for 3 hour shifts? pair a human with a dwarf and one of the shifts left to us elves?

Eltaor Toross |

Eltaor grinned No worries- Rexus will be on guard with us most of the night as well.
Should we determine the order of watch? Ha ha ha. Some of us will need rest for tomorrow more than others.
For example me being fatigued is a lot less costly than one of you melee types xD

Anchard Wulfphear |

"I do not whistle. I never bothered to learn. Anyway, we should post watches through the evening. Seeing as there are six of us I suggest we break this up into two hour long watches, doubling up on the first half and last half of the two hours. I'd like the last hour for my morning rituals, so I'll also take the first hour; the split watch. "

Cerian Screamingtrees |

My friend I was referring to one of my arrows, I have a few that will emit a loud keening easily heard for some distance.
that works anchard
watch shift volunteering for: 1d4 ⇒ 3

Anchard Wulfphear |

Anchard raises a brow at the prospect of a whistling arrows. "Oh... yes of course. I imagine that sound is quiet unique."
"You and the others make sure there is enough wood to keep the fire going throughout the night." Anchard beckons to one of the nearby workers.
Anchard doesn't have anything he needs to do. He share shis name and socializes with anyone interested in chatting for the duration of his first shift. His second shift he uses the doubling up period to perform his morning ritual before taking the last hour solo, although he probably isn't the only one awake by that point.

Bonifacius the Bold |

After doing his evening prayers Bonifacius joins the others in their discussion."As it is darkest just before the morning, I will take last watch. Darkness... doesn´t bother me! Maybe with Alistair. I can imagine we can share many a story."

I just placed you all where i felt it was convenient for your character to sleep
1d10 ⇒ 2
Anchard Perception: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (7) + 9 = 16
Alistair Perception: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (9) + 0 = 9
As you are finishing up your second hour on watch you notice Alistair begin to doze off. You engage in conversation with him for a bit to keep his mind alert. You are both sitting around the fire and then you hear something strange, like a branch break. You look out in the direction but see nothing. Maybe it was nothing. You turn to speak to the bard again and then you hear it again. You peer into the darkness and believe you see shadows moving around the forest to the south (down on the map). Then you see they are figures, humanoid type, maneuvering to get closer to the camp. you have one action to take unless you beat a 12 Stealth check, then you can have two actions to take

Anchard Wulfphear |

Sorry, my listings didn't show any new posts for some reason.

"IDENTIFY YOURSELVES OR PREPARE TO DIE!" Anchard calls, moving up to a horse just before casting bless.

Anchard Wulfphear |

Are the bandits armed with melee weapons or ranged?

Cerian Screamingtrees |

He was up in a start moving to flank the side and the horses. He didnt worry about the morality of the situation, armed figures appraoching a campsite was threat enough. He drew an arrow and aimed in one swift motion, loosing it.
langbow: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8
damage: 1d8 ⇒ 1
He cursed lowly in elven as the arrow impacted easily a dozen feet in front of the bandit (purple). Focus... he had to focus.

Anchard Wulfphear |

Not that it would have helpped but Cerian is blessed so I think that is a +5 to hit

HMPH, Ye ought to know better than to attack a group with two dwarves! assuming I am unarmored due to having been asleep/going to sleep
Zhoren grabs his shield, sword, and throwing axes as he shouts and slams his helmet on his head.
As he slams his helmet down he draws back his arm to launch one of his axes at a bowman
1d20 + 3 - 6 ⇒ (16) + 3 - 6 = 13 however, the dim light and perhaps a bit of the drink cause his axe to fall harmlessly to the side several feet from the target.
he mutters Oh, right, never did hit much with them blasted things....

GM Qwerty |

*Cerian misses his mark as his companions begin to stir and grab whatever they can for combat...
*Alistar does the Robilar interpretive dance to increase his teams fighting spirit...
*Anchard gets confused in the darkness but manages to get atop the closest horse which is one of the draft horses pulling the wagons with no saddle in preparation of advancing to meet the bandits...-5 Ride check if you need to roll one due to no saddle and not combat trained
*Bonificious casts bless for his group...both bless and inspire are moral bonuses
*Zhoren wakes up, grabs his helmet and axes and clumsily throws one wide of his mark...
*The caravan help are scared and running amok trying to grab their gear and calm the horses... their leader is just stunned with his hand on his sword hilt but not drawn...
the three archers move forward and let loose their arrows...

Why on earth are the combat horses as far away from us as possible?! Unbelievably frustrating.
"Use cover! Don't face them on open ground, they outnumber us."
Party members more than 15'-30' from the camp fire should have concealment from ranged attacks in darkness from anything less than darkvision
Round 2
Anchard channels healing energy at the sight of Alistair's arrow contact, before moving to retrieve a more suitable but inconveniently placed horse.

you are correct, i forgot i said nighttime. concealment offers 20% missed chance, so let us see.

speaking of, anyone without darkvision, or, in the dim lit areas lowlight vision, would consider everyone else with concealment, or if pitch dark, total concealment
