"Then would they actually notice them feets gettin' stuck on somat...?" She tries to remember what little lore if any she knows of such creatures.

"Back home, t'is a lot simpler. When they come trapisin' out'a tha' depths? We jus' catch 'em in'a net and pin 'em to tha' corral. Over time they get all covered and 'growed' away..." She explains.

"Hey! One of 'em be talkin'! Maybe we can, y'know, work somat out?" She frowns again, "Though that one who be talkin' seems a might nasty a feller, so maybe not..."

Heck, just brace against any charge, Gene at the back for supporting fire, yell out we wish to 'Parlay' and let them come to us?

I'd normally parlay but, the Dark Prince's gift doesn't sound to nice... We could then parlay with the pallisade there after. thoughts?"

"Jus' sayin'....." And again she blushes with embarrassment.

"They are undead and one is a priest of the devil god. As he said he thinks we are food."

He takes out one of the newly obtained daggers.

"Gene there is no point to hiding your shots anymore. Have at them once things start. Tark, Mr. Torque, and Sunny should charge them as soon as your in range. Gene and myself will give ranged support. If we are lucky we can surprise them and cut a few down in the first rush. Agreed?"

As an afterthought.

"Try to focus on the priest if you can. No doubt if we allow him to remain in the fight things will turn nasty. We do not know if we can count on aid from the others inside. We don't want a drawn out battle."

Torque whispers to Gene. I do not know of that spell, it is more advanced than I can do. I agree about charging, I will bless the group when we are ready.

Torque will cast Bless (+1 hit/dame 2 minutes) and drink his potion of Shield of Faith(+2 ac 1 minute) right before they charge.

If we are 30ft away already, Gene will just fire and forgo the movement.

The ghouls are hiding behind rocks up the path. There's a clear line to any of the four. Also, I'll take this moment to note that I try to be fairly loose with the charge rules. Unless an enemy or impassible object (one that you can't jump over, for example) blocks the charge, I usually allow it. The distance is 60', so you're within range, provided you have a movement speed of 30'.

Go ahead and give me actions for the Surprise round, since you're obviously going to get one. Remember to include Torque's bless spell bonuses in any attack rolls. Also, I'd like to remind people to provide a stat block, please.

I just realized that only a partial charge is available during a surprise round, putting the undead out of reach. However, I'm going to give a full round for the surprise round, in order to avoid having to rewrite things and because the undead are quite oblivious. This is a case by case thing. It won't happen that much in the future.

Day 27 - 28 Sarenith 4712

Path to the Pallisade - Combat

The ambush is sprung and the party rushes out from their hiding spot. The pallisade guards are the first to spot the newest combatants, but fail to react. The ghouls, however, as caught completely unaware and only notice everyone at the very last second.

Tarchinis and Torque score wounding blows on their targets, but Gene's shot strikes true, hitting the undead priest in head before he can utter much more than a yelp. The priest's head explodes like a ripe watermelon, splattering Tark and Torque with rotting brain matter. The priest's body falls to the ground.

The ghouls panic at the sight of their fallen leader.

That's it for the surprise round. Give me actions for Round 1.

Swiping his free hand across his face and flicking the gore away, Tark shuffles to surround their opponents and lays into an unwounded ghoul.

If possible to take a five foot step and get flanking on an unwounded ghoul, he will do so, unless it places him in a flanked position himself. He'll attack in either case.

Damage: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8

That would be 12 to hit and an additional 1d6 ⇒ 2 damage if he gets the flank, but it looks like a miss to me.

Path to the Pallisade - Combat

Seeing flying goo going every where, Sunny 'Eeeews!' in disgust and moves her nekkid self out of the way of any more spraying material.

Torque shifts to give Tark a good opportunity to flank and lay about him with his falchion at the wounded ghoul. The blow misses the undead creature, which hisses at the half-orc and looks ready to bolt.

Both guards seem to gather their wits about themselves and take aim at different, unengaged ghouls. Their guns thunder and both of the undead take a bullet.

Gene takes an aim at one of the wounded ghouls and fires. The bullet plows through the side of the monster's ribcage, tearing through ribs and rotting organs, before blasting out the backside, pulling a large amount of viscera with it.

Swiping his free hand across his face and flicking the gore away, Tark shuffles to surround their opponents and lays into an unwounded ghoul. The ghoul, sorely pressed, still manages to dodge, but its options are quickly dwindling.

Aoro summons acid into his hand which he throws at a ghoul. The acid burns into the undead creature' side, eating into its flesh and leaving a hand sized burn before it finishes. I'm going to assume that Aoro doesn't call out seeing that the guards already fired. :)

The two ghouls split, racing off in different directions. The unengaged one bolts along the ridge line, dodging around boulders to make it a more difficult target, but the one in between Tark and Torque doesn't fare as well. It turns to bolt, but drops its guard in process. Both of the men swing at the ghoul, which ducks just enough to avoid Torque taking its head off... Right into Tark's blade. The cutlass cuts straight through the ghoul's face and into its neck, sending the thing tumbling to the ground.

Path to the Pallisade - Combat

Tark and Torque pursue the ghoul, racing after it, around the rocks it's running by. Sunny stands by with her sword, watching the ghoul and her companions dart between the stones.

The guards on the pallisade are busily reloading their muskets, trying to get ready to fire another round.

Gene fires his own musket, catching the ghoul as it passes between a pair of boulders, but the bullet hits it in the arm, cracking bone and rending flesh, but not enough to stop it.

Aoro casts a pair of silver dart fish at the ghoul. They strike it in the back, burrowing a pair of holes into the ghoul's flesh. It falls forward onto its face, sliding to a stop. It doesn't move again.

"Nasty, smelly, squicky things..." She mutters as she awaits the opening of the stockade's front door.

"Here, Tarch? I ken call ye 'Tarch', right?" Sunny skips over and chats to Tarchinis Verance. "Anywho, da ye reckoning any of tha' folks shootin' tha' boony things afore?" She asks, curiosity evident in her large, blue eyes.

"Are these folks from tha' boat ye an' Pai was on?"

*Gets ready to skip along and meet new peoples* (^_^)

Tark helps Torque with making sure the ghouls stay down, rifling the pockets of the one they chased, before walking back to the group, keeping an eye on the guards at the pallisade.

A search of the priest recovers a bit of useful gear, but the other ghouls carried little themselves. The priest had leather armor, a masterwork heavy mace, a silver holy symbol of Asmodeus, a spell component pouch, and several nuggets of gold that you quickly realize are teeth.

The men on the pallisade call out, "Well, ya' look like friends, judgin' from the number ya' did on our former 'comrades', but I'm wantin' Aaron to know first. Wait here an' I'll get him!" The man disappears while the other remains on the wall. He doesn't look to be actively concerned about you all, but the musket is still in his hand, just not readied and aimed. His gaze wanders over the entire group, but stops on Sunny several times for much longer than might be comfortable.

After a couple of minutes another man, wearing a bandana over his dark hair appears over the edge of the wall. "Aaron Ivy's th' name, an' I'm wonderin' who you all are and how ya' got here." He stares at everyone for a moment before disappearing from the wall. "Let 'em in," can be heard from the other side and shortly after the gate is pushed open. Aaron steps out a bit to gesture everyone inside with a wave before disappearing back behind the wall.

@Tark: You recognize Aaron Ivy, though. He was a sailor on board the Infernus as well. You're not sure as to his place on the crew, but you're fairly certain he wasn't just a swab. The man never directly interacted with you and seemed to have little interest in you when you were being held captive.

Sunny stands along side every one else and continues to smile up at those on the palisade. The other men's attention not seeming to bother....or even register....with her at all..

Once the gate is pushed open she happily skips inside.

Quietly, aside to Aoro, Tark says "Everyone I see here were sailors on the Infernus. Mr. Ivy, there, he had some authority, but I'm not sure what station he held. These were the folk t'were hauling us back to Chelix in chains..."

Tark pulls his hat down over a little and follows Aoro's lead.

Sunny continues to skip along into the compound, a bright and cheery smile upon her face.

"So then.." She calls out to those inside, spinning in place to look up at the fellow still on the wall.

"How long have ye been dealin' with that dead feller, out yonder?" She indicates the now totally deceased Cleric.

Or were that a problem whut jus' arose?" And she giggles at her own attempted joke. Sunny continues to turn and look all about herself.

Well it seemed he spotted his target.

"Mr. Torque if you would lead the way."

Little Ro gets told something and hops over to everyone's shoulder for a moment speaking in their ear.

Everyone:

"Captain says be ready and on guard, Chelaxian navy sailors can't be trusted. Not when it comes to pirates like us."

The bird quickly returns to Aoro disappearing shortly after somewhere.

Sunny giggles and chortles as the birdy hops on her shoulder and seems to nibble at her ear.

As the bird lands on Genes shoulder a look of annoyance and disdain at the birds approach crosses his face for a moment. Other than that Gene shows no sign of acknowledgement to having heard the birds words. As he puts his musket over his shoulder seeming to not care if the bird gets crushed under the strap or not.

To himself They don't care for much of anyone unless that person has connections above there own. Even then the connections are usually demon in nature...

Gene starts to head in to the pallisade, a hand moves to the sheath of his long sword as he goes.

Day 27 - 28 Sarenith 4712

Survivor's Palisade

The inside of the palisade is small. A short building, likely only big enough for a single room is the only other structure here. A small spring bubbles up water, which runs in a thin stream down the other side of the little fort, running under the wall and likely down the far side of the mountain. A tall, dead tree sits in the midst of the palisade, long since devoid of life. A few other items sit along the walls, including a bucket, a spyglass, and spare ammunition for the mens' muskets.

The two sailors lean a bit on their muskets, ensuring they're not out of reach, but still at ease for the moment. One stares a bit too much at Sunny, but the other seems a bit distracted by the naked elf as well. Ivy doesn't seem to pay much attention at all and once everyone is inside, he nods to one of the sailors, who pushes the gate shut.

He looks to Sunny, "Couple o' days so far. Madrius died in th' 'nitial fracas, but th' bastard didn't have th' decency ta stay tha' way." He spits on the ground. "Never liked those demon-worshippers much any way." One of the men seems to look a bit bothered by Aaron's statement, but keeps it to himself.

"So, how'd ya' all get stuck on this wond'rful place? Ya' al from th' ship ta' th' north, right?"

Aoro has a small smile on.

"We are from the ship. But we are not stuck, more like resupplying and repairing due to a storm we ran into. We didn't expect the ghouls but nothing we can not handle. Second group today, you wouldn't happen to know if their are still more?"
