Maps and Handouts

When an ally of the Society reports that her sister's business is being harassed by the Aspis Consortium in the Varisian city of Korvosa, a team of Pathfinder agents is dispatched to the Green Market to assist. What they find there is more than simple strong-arming and intimidation, however. What mysterious forces bring the popular market its unlikely success, and can the PCs stop the Aspis Consortium from gaining control of what could become a lucrative resource for the rival organization?

Not to be out done, Rasamoro screams back at the screaming voice and waves his quarterstaff in the air, "FIGHTING NOT ALWAYS BEST ANSWER, BUT ALWAYS GOOD ANSWER. GORUM SAY SO. I AM RASAMORO, GORUM'S CHOSEN!"

Rasamoro has a serious look on his face as he considers ajax's words, "Rasamoro need hug spirit voice? Rasamoro think swing ghost stick better plan."

The End Awakens | The Day the River Died

Of course you agree!

The voice rings out as a snarling, ghostly figure emerges from beneath the ground. As the translucent form of a bald male in unexpectedly solid hide armor and wielding a real-looking short spear rises, green flames dance off of his form and slither to the ground. A corona of the same green fire spills out from his eyes and sheathes his head. What looks like molten gold drips out from a hole in his chest - right where the spear protruded from the corpse below the altar.

You came here and brought steel, steel that drank red in this place once more. Nothing has changed! And if change is futile, then let me be who I was meant to be!

He lets out a whooping cry, and a trio of massive concentrations of flame and heat, each in a vaguely humanoid shape appear beside him. With another cry, the ghost of Galdron Greenheart points his spear towards you and yells

Ignan:
Drive them off the land!

It would be a Know Religion check to recall things about ghosts, and a Know Planes check for information about the beings of fire.

Also a note on terrain: as you are on the Ethereal plane, you are considered insubstantial to objects on the Material. That means that you can move through the solid objects in the market (like stalls and walls) freely.

There is lso no gravity here. If you'd like, you can move in any direction as if perfectly flying simply by willing it. I would ask (due to mapping) that if you are not 'level', you try to add text or something next to your character to note elelvation. your speed is still your speed.

The End Awakens | The Day the River Died

Ajax (from other thread): their reach seems to be the full 15 feet.
Roland: The fire elementals appear as solid as you are. They are treated as regular, corporeal creatures for you.
Anail: the ghost is still incorporeal. In Pathfinder, unlike 3.5, ghosts do not have an explicit connection to the Ethereal plane and their incorporeality is not tied to it(see HERE).

Downing another vial and suddenly jittering with speed, Anail rushes forward. The sylph's eyes immediately pin Galdron as having returned as a ghost.

Ghost info, spoilered for length, feel free to read as I assume Anail will yell it out:
Incorporeal undead, ghosts are not always evil but are tricky to permanently remove. They have both channel resistance and are capable of rejuvenating even from being destroyed after a period of days - unless whatever is preventing it from finding peace in the Boneyard is resolved.

Lacking any armor or natural armor they might have had in life, the force of a ghost's personality (charisma) grants them some manor of deflective protection. They can fly, perfectly, but only can wield and bear weapons and armor that is made to be ghost touch.

Ghosts also can have a variety of special abilities. While no ghost is the same, the investigator suspects that from the nature of the haunt, Galdron could have some measure of telekinesis. Many spirits have a corrupting touch, which deals significant damage as it ages and aches the flesh but can be partially resisted with a fort save. Finally, Galdron's flaming eyes remind Anail of ghosts that have a Corrupting Gaze, which can deal both damage and Charisma damage to those who meet the undead's eyes too closely.

The sylph tries to tumble past the fire being that he recognizes as a huge fire elemental. Beyond the standard elemental traits (immune to precision, flanking, crits, etc) and an immunity to fire and vulnerability to cold, fire elementals' strikes can threatens to burn to victims, as seen by the blows to Ajax and the eidolon. This elemental strikes at the not-not-nimble-enough tumbler, but the punch is wide.

Rasamoro, unless I am missing something and/or misrememebring where you started the round, you would provoke an AoO from the red fire elemental.

AoO: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (9) + 15 = 24 for damage: 2d6 + 4 ⇒ (1, 2) + 4 = 7

That said, moot point in the end

As Rasamoro protects himself from the flame's being bandied about and Whitwood prepares to save his companion, the eiodolon continues to burn (taking 2d6 ⇒ (3, 5) = 8 fire damage), but strikes back. The first slam connects, but the elemental's shifting form seems to absorb most of the force of the blow.

From being his allies, Galdron yells out a string of steange rhytmic syllables. Suddenly a wall of fire erupts from the line of combat. Flames 20 feet high form a shimmering sheet that roasts Ara, Anail, and even Rasamoro (though he merely feels a bit warm), while waves of heat spill out from it to sear Theriahm and Whitwood's eidolon.

Spellcraft 19:
This is a Wall of Fire

Anyone 'in' the wall right now (so Ara, Anail, and Rasamoro) will take Fire damage: 2d6 + 9 ⇒ (4, 4) + 9 = 17. On your turn you can mover to whichever side of the wall you wish, but passing thorugh it again after that would deal damage a second time. For those of you who can't move forward a whole square because of something blcoking you (Anail specifically), let me know which side you want to be on; the wall isn't five-feet thick so you could stay in that 'space' just on one side of it or the other.
The eidolon and Theriahm are close enough to the wall that they take Fire damage: 2d4 ⇒ (2, 1) = 3 from the heat. Whitwood: I am inclined to consider your readied action triggering from this, but as its not an effect directed 'at' the psychopomp I am fine with your discretion as to whether you are dismissing it now.

The wall is 20 feet high. A remingder: This plane has subjective gravity. You can choose to fly over it, using the same rules as normal flying.

I was under the impression that swift action spells did not provoke attacks of opportunity. If it does provoke, Rasamoro will just walk towards the yellow elemental. Rasamoro will be flying up to the yellow elemental, he plans on eventually flying over it and engaging our resident ghost caster.

The End Awakens | The Day the River Died

Nope, you are correct - the error is with me. No provoking

Rasamoro wills himself up and at the southernmost elemental. You're 10 feet above the ground (elementals are 15 feet tall) His attack however, misses the mark, failing to even connect with the surprising dexterous creature.

As both Rasamoro and the elemental get closes to the ghost, Galdron's eyes leak a strange, unnerving fire, the two of them feel old as foul waves of anger rip into them.

Rasamoro and the elemental are both close enough that they are subjected to Galdron's gaze attack. Both of you take 2d10 ⇒ (8, 8) = 16 damage, and need a DC 19 Fort save or also take Charisma damage: 1d4 ⇒ 4. The damage (and risk of Charisma damage, will reoccur each round at the start of your turns. Normal gaze rules apply (can close your eyes to negate it, avert your eyes to get a save bonus but give him concealment, etc)

Snarling, Galdron call out "I died because I forgot the warrior's instinct! That mistake will not be made again!" as he hurls a bead towards you. (Fireball) It explodes into an inferno that engulfs Anail, Rasamoro, and the elemental.

Anail, Rasamoro, and the elemental take fire damage: 9d6 ⇒ (2, 1, 3, 4, 3, 3, 5, 3, 6) = 30. A DC 19 Reflex save will halve that.

Was that fireball cast or from a device. Roland already posted a readied shot against casting/attacking,
so if the arrow hit, a concentration (DC10+14+SL) would be needed I would hope.

Your warrior instinct is not needed. We were not your enemies here!

The End Awakens | The Day the River Died

Cast. So using the magic of time re-winding....

Galdron attempts to hurl a golden sphere out before being pierced by Roland's arrow. It passes through the ghost, but even the partial damage distracts the dead Shoanti, but he manages to get the spell off.

Concentration: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (14) + 14 = 28

"You are invaders, coming to my land to fight and claim it. I have seen your kind before. It ends differently now!"

Roland, you notice there does not seem to be the expected flare you're used to when a holy weapon strikes an evil creature
Also, I do not believe your arrows are ghost touched, correct? (I may have missed something). If not, Galdron's incorporeality means half damage from normal magical weapons.

Apologies for not attacking, but I need to get Ara capable of fighting these things and that's going to take me two rounds.

Ajax takes a moment to recall the resist energy spell he just cast into one of this pearls of power. Then he and Ara reposition themselves.

@GM - what was your decision on my illegal Cat's Grace?

The End Awakens | The Day the River Died

Ajax: I believe the simplest way to resolve it would be that you cast it once earlier today, right after the plant attack, and then once again on Ara right before the ritual. You still have versatile weapon prepared, but you yourself are less 'grace'ful

Oblivious to the caasting and movement behind the wall, the Red elemental steps back and smacks at Anail, while the Yellow one focuses its attention on the sudden summoned threat.

The End Awakens | The Day the River Died

Anail: I just realized that the studied strike and combat damage is precision damage - something to which elementals are immune. You will not have needed to use those two points of inspiration to restudy (as your character would realize that even if you forgot) , but your blows would not have dealt as much damage as you had hoped.

Anail adjust his stance, backing slightly away from Galdorn, before thrusting twice more at his initial target. The elemental let out a yell in Ignan, but stands.

Meanwhile the Blue Elemental's head cocks to follow the arc of the arrow back to Rolnd. Moving through the wall of fire, it strikes up at the archer just within reach.

Anail gets an AoO on the elemental.

@Roland - Ara might be able to provide you with some measure of cover, so if the GM agrees, then you can delay until after her turn and avoid any AoO's.

The End Awakens | The Day the River Died

Ajax: answered in other thread. Cover would be minimal due to the sizes involved, but Roland could also just five-foot step out of reach.

Anail's attack digs into the moving enemy, but only around half of the blow seems to take. Is it sickened as well, or only creatures you are studying?

Rasamoro and the elemental are also still within the range of Galdron's gaze at the start of their turns. They (and the red and yellow elemental that I forgot to do at the start of their turns) take another 2d10 ⇒ (4, 6) = 10 damage and need another Fort save vs 1d4 ⇒ 2 Charisma damage. rolling the Earth elemetnal's fort save: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (14) + 9 = 23

Whitwood tries to speed up his allies. It seems to have a good effect already, as while it takes two blows, the yellow fire elemental finally crumbles and dissipates into disorganized embers. the elemetnal shifts north for its third attack, dealing a resounding blow that does the same to the second elemental as well. It ends its turn leaning heavily, badly hurt and with crippling self-doubt (3/84, on fire, 4 Cha damage) The guy's had a rough 12 seconds.

Taking advantage of the chance, Rasamoro rushes forwards and strikes at Galdron with the end of the tree branch. The stick, imbued with the remnants of the earlier haunt, strikes the dead Shoanti with full force. The spirit snarls.

"So, as it should be. A fight close and personal."
