When an ally of the Society reports that her sister's business is being harassed by the Aspis Consortium in the Varisian city of Korvosa, a team of Pathfinder agents is dispatched to the Green Market to assist. What they find there is more than simple strong-arming and intimidation, however. What mysterious forces bring the popular market its unlikely success, and can the PCs stop the Aspis Consortium from gaining control of what could become a lucrative resource for the rival organization?

Rasamoro draws his longsword and calls upon the might of Gorum, the Lord in Iron

"Come Aspis, LET US PRAAAAAY!" He shouts as he begins to glow Cast divine favor for +3 to hit and damage

Rasamoro continues to scream various profanities and threats at his foes, but quickly slips into abyssal for the rest of the combat.

If Ajax drops red, Rasamoro would have moved 10ft to be adjacent to Whitwood's friend. Otherwise he will remain where he is.

Blooming Catastrophe Return to Grave

The bush wouldn't provide total concealment, but in order to be able to see your target through the walls of the raised tree-enclosure, I moved you forward one square Ajax. Otherwise you would have no real line of effect to the 'red' thug.

Also Rasamoro, the time the Aspis arrive is unpredictable, so you would likely not have prepared with shield of faith up. On the other hand, that's a spell slot unused.

While Rasamoro, Whitwood's pasychopomp, and Roland ready to defend Zeeva, Ajax takes the initiative to take the closest thug by surprise. Peppered with arrows, the man draws out his own bow and fires it at the marketplace owner's closest guardian: Rasamoro. Anáil nods, accepting any healing Theriahm can provide. "Aye, friend, I could use yours." He hands his own wand to the oracle so that he may use it on the sylph.

Turning his attention to the two men, he sighs. "I hate to say "I told you so", but... I kinda did. You Aspis are hopeless, aren't you? Well, at least you had the sense of surrendering. That's a first step, and we may yet have you back on the right path. Now tell me, are there any more of you here? Was there a contingency plan?"

Got it Theriahm. You'll be able to heal yourself of 4 damage (form the first charge) before the things below begin.

You can also begin diplomacy, but as you'll see below, there will not be enough time at the moment to get in a full Diplomacy work-over

As Theriahm removes some of his own lesser bruises, Roland keeps watch over the Green Market for any new surprises. Patrons and produce hawkers begin to peek out from their hiding places and slowly start back towards the stalls.

Zeeva continues forwards towards Anail. "Here, you look hurt. I'm sorry helping me put you in harm's way: here, let me take a look." The woman lightly touches Anail's arm where the man's sword had scored a deep gash. As she rubs it, the depth of the cut seems to lessen and the sylph's skin begins knitting together. Zeeva takes a step back and smiles as a nearby black cat hops onto her shoulders from a neighboring cart.
Anail heals 1d8 + 5 ⇒ (5) + 5 = 10 damage

As Whitwood and the swashbuckler interrogate the two surrendered fighters, the larger one shrugs.

"Hey, Narris there was the Aspis. We're just independents. Took a contract to add some muscle, stand tall, look tough, step in if things got dicey. Whatever beef you guys have with each other, our stake ended the moment he did."

Blooming Catastrophe Return to Grave

No holy damage Roland, unfortunately.

Anail forces all of his will into his wand and Rasomoro casts a spell to call his own reserve of positive energy as their eyes are both drawn towards the source of the uneasy sensation. The haunt's source/epicenter is the yellow circle on the map.

While Roland Ajax and Ara prepare and call out a warning, a strong wind whips through the Grene Market, despite the fact the marketplace is indoors. Hundreds of pounds of fruits, vegetables, flowers, and other produce begins to rise in the air from their stalls, moving into a swirling tornado around the center court. As the greenery spins around many of the plants seems to be quickly coalescing into a pair of hulking masses, with eyes of potatoes, noses of carrots, and muscles lined with vines of grapes and pumpkins.

A deep voice calls out from the swirling mess. Through it, you also spy the massive tree at the Market's raised park begin to shake.

LIH JAVY OEVAT AB JYE URER!

Shoanti:
YOU WILL BRING NO WAR HERE!

Things seem to be forming amidst the swirling haunt, but are not yet fully formed. As mentioned above, the area to effect it is the yellow circle. If Anail or Rasmoro chooses to move to use their positive energy attacks this turn then I am fine with keeping those rolls.

Blooming Catastrophe Return to Grave

Apologies if the haunt location wasn't clear Anail. That change of actions, given the clarification, is fine.

While the rest of the party readies themselves, Rasamoro rushes forwards and thrusts his hand into the heart of the growing plant storm. Several of the vegetables within the whirlwind wither and drop to the ground, still, while the tree beyond see some of its leaves turn red.

Theriahm recalls that haunts are formed at sites of tragic deaths, massacres, betrayals, and other locations where negative emotions linger and infect the area or an object only to manifest aspects of their pain out to others later. While some haunts are one-time events, the size of this one makes Anail believe it is likely a recurring force. What's more, it seems to be manifesting into several physical forms. Rasamoro's attack seems to have weakened each mass, but once they finish their creation positive energy will likely no longer affect the animated beings.

With the haunt's epicenter reaching a crescendo, a roar calls out amongst the market: Guuf ynaq ef Fubnagi ynaq! At that moments, the last of the vegetables cohere into a pair of massive creatures composed of vegetables and fruits like a twisted green snowman. One lashes out and strikes twice at Rasamoro, while the other shambles forwards that slam the psychopomp.

Red slam 1: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (13) + 13 = 26 for damage: 2d6 + 7 ⇒ (5, 2) + 7 = 14
Red slam 2: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (3) + 13 = 16 for damage: 2d6 + 7 ⇒ (3, 2) + 7 = 12

blue slam: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (5) + 13 = 18 for damage: 2d6 + 7 ⇒ (5, 1) + 7 = 13

On the raised park, the central tree uproots itself. The image of a sinister face forms on the front of its bark, staring out at you with malice. It begins shuffling towards the main market. All around the Green Market, shoppers salesmen and the the surrendered mercenaries begin fleeing and cowering in corners.

Anail Knowledge on the tree: 1d20 + 16 + 1d6 ⇒ (20) + 16 + (3) = 39

Anail can determine that the two smaller plant masses seem to exhibit very similar qualities to Shambling Mounds - albeit especially healthy specimens. Plants (with all the advantages and disadvantages that come with that), shambling mounds have some fire resistance and are absolutely immune to electricity - in fact electrical damage actually increases their constitution. The mounds' slam attacks can also grapple those they strike, who they then constrict with the vines that compose them.

The tree, for its part, looks like a powerful quickwood. Immune to fire and electricity, this plant also has a strange form of spell resistance: it can not only resist some spells, but if the magical energy fails to affect it, the quickwood can release that absorbed spell into a powerful fear aura that reaches farther the stronger the held spell. On top of its bite, quickwoods can also lash out with multiple roots up to 60 feet away, which it uses to pull victims closer to its gaping maw.
