Wayreth grins as Sir Hops-A-Lot narrowly beats his own time.

"Never thought I'd lose to a frog in a contest of acrobatics. I'm still rather disappointed that you didn't choose to compete yourself though," Wayreth laughs.

He is considerably less enthusiastic when they get to the lectures though.

"I thought today was supposed to be a celebration...so why am I attending lectures on a day of celebration?"

We will need to wrap up this part of the scenario soon, but since many of you were keen about the lore symposium, we will play through this station, then just do rolls for the last 4 stations.

Each of you can get no more than 2 bonuses, and each station can give bonuses to a maximum of 2 characters. You still need to beat the base DC, so there's no guarantee that each of you will get 2 bonuses.

I have also sent each of you a password for the overseer thread. The link to the overseer thread is found in Jesse's post in the discussion thread. It will become important in the next phase.

Hehe. There's no rules that says a frog can't be a Pathfinder!

"Being a proper Pathfinder means knowing your strengths and your weaknesses, and then training a mount to take care of your weaknesses for you. Also, never play fair if you can help it." Prig smiled at Wayreth as they walked towards the lecturing.

When they get to the lectures, Prig pulls out a copy of his most recent book "Of Mummies and Frogs" and starts to read it.
No Linguistics or Knowledge checks, so no attempting this one for me.

Grand Lodge

We're running out of time, so we're not going to wait for Salubri.

Salubri, I need you to be posting more regularly if we want to keep pace with the other tables.

Salubri decides not to participate in the lore symposium.

Rowanna and Jani give very impressive dissertations, although Jani's subject matter rather offends Ezren, who takes off in a huff.

Rowanna and Jani, you can each gain a +2 competence bonus on a knowledge or linguistics check once during this scenario.

Jani and Wayreth now have 2 bonuses each and cannot get any more.

As the symposium attendees applaud the dissertations of Jani and Rowanna, a booming voice echoes throughout the campus.

“Pathfinders, please get settled. All campus-wide events are closing. All venture-captains and field agents are invited to gather on the north lawn for refreshments and the keynote address in several minutes.”

Rowanna, Salubri and Prig, you each may have just enough time to squeeze in one last event before the keynote address. You can choose one of the events from my earlier post and attempt one of the checks for the event before the keynote address is made. Once the keynote address is made, no more rolls for the events can be attempted.

Remaining activities:

1. ANIMAL HUSBANDRY at the menagerie and training area on the grounds (test of handle animal, intimidate or wild empathy)

2. RECITAL/STORYTELLING near the temporary structures west of the front gates (test of bluff/perform)

3. LORE SYMPOSIUM at an outdoor lecture area in the Quadrangle (test of linguistics/knowledge)

4. OBSTACLE COURSE near the training grounds (test of acrobatics/dexterity)

5. SLEUTHING at a lecture hall in one of the eastern outbuildings (test of heal/perception/survival)

6. TRAP MASTERY in a spare room at the Mausoleum (test of craft traps or disable device)

7. WEIGHT LIFTING at the training grounds (test of strength)

If that doesn't work, then he'll go over to practice animal husbandry - calling himself "the frog whisperer" so that anyone interested in meeting him again has a clue of how to find him.

Handle Animal: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (12) + 14 = 26

EDIT: I hope that's enough for weight-lifting. My little froggy pecs can't do much more!

Prig strains at the weights at the weight-lifting station, but is unable to get them to budge....but suddenly they DO budge, and so does Prig! The grippli lifts his eyes from the weights to see that a large kelish woman has grabbed the weights in one hand and him in the other, and handily lifted both of them up simultaneously. The crowd roars with approval and cries of "Amiri! Amiri!" fills the training grounds.

His pride sorely wounded, Prig moves along to the nearby menagerie to try to salvage some credibility through a performance with Sir Hops-A-Lot. The large frog is met with cheers - apparently more than a few of the crowd here recognized Sir Hops-A-Lot from the obstacle course. The long partnership between frog and grippli pays off, as the frog listens to Prig's every command - from responding to commands to navigating a path laden with toys without getting distracted.

One by one, the other would-be animal masters are dropped from the competition, until it is down to Prig Lil with Sir Hops-A-Lot, and some pipsqueak of a green-haired girl with some silly looking white spotted cat.

The challenge is to sit in front of some food (a large fish for the cat and a giant flea for Sir Hops-A-Lot) but not touch it. Both animals sit before the treats whils their masters sternly instruct them not to budge. And neither do, until Prig realises that the rules did not actually prohibit him from interacting with the other competitor's animal or its treat. Knowing full well that the cat would be looking forward to being rewarded for its patience in front of the fish, the wily grippli flicks out his tongue at the fish, prompting the alarmed cat to instinctively reach out with its paw to hold the fish and prevent it from being snatched away.

There is abit of an uproar, but Prig insists that he did not break any of the rules, and that animal mastery involves not only knowing how YOUR animal will react, but also how your opponent's animal will react. After a lengthy debate about the legality of the maneuver and despite the green-haired girl's protests and the disappointed whimpers of the cat, Prig "Fair-Play" Lil is declared the winner of the animal husbandry event.

Prig, you gains a +2 competence bonus on one Handle Animal, Intimidate, or wild empathy check attempted during the adventure. Alternatively, you can gain a +2 bonus on one attack roll against an animal or magical beast.

That's it for Sir Hops-A-Lot and Prig. I trust this narrative is in keeping with how you roleplay Prig? ;)

For the purposes of this part of the adventure, the Grand Lodge is divided into three major districts: the south campus, northwestern campus and the northeastern campus. The map on the overseer page shows the current threat level of each area. (At the moment, all sectors are red.)

The Southern campus has:
The Menagerie
The statue of Durvin Gest (one of the most famous Pathfinders in history)

The Northwest Campus houses:
The Mausoleum
Starhall (A library of Planar works)

The Northeast Campus houses:
The main quadrangle (with the training yard and lecture halls)

You can choose to go to one of the 3 general areas, or to a specific location in an area.

Rowanna: Currently, there is chaos everywhere. Each choice is as good as the other because all the sectors are in dire need of assistance.

From your training, you know that the Menagerie houses rare and exotic live specimens from across the Inner Sea. It is often the first glimpse of strange and unusual creatures that initiates experience before their first expedition. The Society’s finest naturalists have captured most of the creatures here for study—and in rare instances domestication.

It does not take you long to arrive at the scene: a shifting mass of tents and canvas tarpaulins covering dozens of pens and enclosures of varying sizes is pressed up against the lodge’s western wall. Wagons bearing food and supplies brought in from the city are parked nearby. Other wagons contain caged enclosures like those that used in a traveling circus. Larger tents cover metal cages of enormous size. To the east, the grass is compacted from regular foot traffic to the training grounds. As you make your way through the chaos, a young woman rushes to meet you.

"Oh thank goodness you have come. Things have gone insane here! Someone had tampered with the locks of the cages, allowing a few of the beasts to be set free! A few other agents have been busy suppressing the beasts who escaped, and my sister and I are trying to check the remaining cages for more tampered locks to ensure that none of the other creatures here can escape. But we are simple groundskeepers and not warriors, and if we are attacked we will surely be slaughtered on sight. Please, will you guard us while we check the locks?"

Behind her, another young woman bearing a familial resemblance to the first woman is at the door of an impressive cage, with a ferocious leonine beast prowling about inside.

sense motive DC20:
She sounds excited rather than afraid. In fact, there is a hint of anticipation in her voice! Why isn't she afraid? Shouldn't a person in her situation be terrified? What could she be anticipating?

perception DC25:
The other woman appears to be trying the lock with a ring of keys. Actually... she appears to be trying the lock with one key after another. Didn't the first woman say that the locks had been tampered with? So why is she trying keys on the lock instead of putting on a new lock or repairing the lock?

What do you wish to do?

sense motive: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (20) + 15 = 35 And that could have been a crit threat...but instead it means that all the lamia's attacks missed.

"And the bamboo rattles in the storm," he adds as he delivers another rapid succession of kicks.

After waiting for Wayreth to attack once again, Rowanna moves closer to the melee to get both lamias in range of her hexes. She then turns her attention to the one in combat with Wayreth, and tries to place a Slumber hex on it.

I think you have to choose a single attack for snake style AC.

Questions: weaknesses (or worst save if no weaknesses per se) and magical abilities if any.

My actions will depend on the results of my knowledge check. If the creature's worst save is will, cast Hold Person (DC 18 Will) on the nearest one. If Fortitude or reflex, cast Blindness (DC 18 Fort) on the nearest one.

If Jani recalls any spellcasting or spell-like abilities, they will tell the other PCs about it.

Ugh, you're right. I'll use it against the touch attack then.

And my AC is 21 thanks to the mage armor cast on me by Jani earlier, so one of the claws also missed. =)

Wayreth avoids the touch and one of the claws skids off the mage armor.

Jani thinks back and recalls that lamia's have no special weaknesses, but are usually strong-willed but have relatively weak fortitudes. They can use illusion magic to disguise themselves and project their voices at will, and can also use magic to charm other monsters, create major illusory images, create illusory mirror images of themselves, make powerful suggestions, and put others into a deep slumber. They usually try to use their wisdom-draining touch first in order to better the odds of their magic abilities affecting their targets.

And so she attempts to blind the nearest lamia.

She is pleased to hear the lamia snarl in frustration as the lamia is suddenly unable to see anything.
Prig and Hops follow up with a couple of strikes on the blinded lamia.

Rowanna decides to see if the other lamia is feeling a little more sleepy.

It is.

Salubri piles on the punishment on the blinded lamia.

Wayreth had already beaten the sleeping lamia to an inch of its life, and now that it is unconscious at his feet, he has no trouble at all finishing it off.

Combat over!

As soon as the lamias are defeated, a couple of humans run out from some bushes about 100 feet away.

"Marvelous! Oh thank goodness you arrived when you did! Those things pretended to be pathfinder agents, then started slaughtering the other keepers and setting the animals free! If you hadn't arrived when you did, things would have gotten very dire!"

"And I see you managed to keep Felix from getting out too! Good thing you did. Got a nasty temper, that one, but he's a beautiful specimen and I'd hate to see him have to be put down. Hey you've done us a solid, so we're gonna pay back in kind, ok? We've got some emergency supplies tucked away, but this sure looks like an emergency, so we'll send those supplies to the Society's HQ and see if they can't make good use of it. Us, we're gonna go check on the other cages, make sure they're secure."

Sense motive checks assure you that they are genuine. For defeating the lamias before they could set the dire lion free, you have won a Supply Point for the tables. Accumulating these points results in more aid tokens being passed around the tables. Details about aid tokens are found on the overseer's thread.

There is still mayhem throughout the campus. Do you want to keep wandering around Southern campus or move to a new area?

"Just give me a moment," Wayreth replies as he kneels on the ground and adopts a meditative posture. The wounds he sustained slowly begin to heal.

Using my Boots of the Earth to gain fast healing for 1 minute. That tops me back to full health.

Rowanna pulls out her wand of Infernal Healing and taps Salubri with it while Wayreth also fast heals. "Other than birds, I'm really not all that fond of animals, but I suppose we can see if anyone else nearby needs assistance."

Salubri heals 10 damage after 1 minute. He might not approve in character, but 'botters can't be choosers. Rowanna's wand is down to 34 charges.

Staying in the menagerie is fine, that's my vote until the area is green or we run into an especially tough encounter.

Grand Lodge

Border of War map Reign of Winter map

The menagerie is quiet for now, and other agents appear to have the area under relative control, but you hear a commotion from the direction of the Durvin Gest monument (the other location in the Southern Campus), and so you head off in that direction.

The path there is well known to you, and it is usually quite a pleasant one. However, the beauty of the Grand Lodge’s well-manicured grounds is shattered by the sounds of shouts and screams from panicked initiates, support staff, and visitors. Frightened innocents trip over hedges and stumble through fountains and pools in an effort to get to safety by the most direct means possible, especially when the landscaping otherwise leads them to certain peril.

As you push your way through the throng, you see the cause of the alarm: a pair of exceedingly large rhinoceroses each with a shaggy pelt of long, brown fur and a row of immense horns on its snout and brow. Apparently some of the escapees from the menagerie have wandered rather far, and it falls to you to pacify them or put them down!
