It was brought to my attention that False Life is a personal spell only.
I guess all those times a Wand of False Life was used on others caused me to never bother checking if it is Personal.
What would you like to do GM?
Omar Senay |
No combat has happened. I don't mind if the False Life is moved to a valid target.
Zahra Senay |
I've seen message spell ruled both as a group spell and as a switchboard, with all messages going through the caster. Either works for me. GM?

Re: false life: Just shift the temp hp to Vorel. I have personally benefited from that mistake of yours many times, Vorel. :) I never bothered to check.
Re: message: I can see both interpretations. My opinion is that the word "you" in the description text refers to each creature under the effect of the spell, not the caster. It is more fun that way, anyway.

It turns out it's a mistake I've been making for years. Maybe I should crack open a rule book from time to time.
Omar Senay |
Yeah, I've often been tripped up by something like that. Most recent was not bothering to check damage on Shocking Grasp. It has always been d8 + level, hasn't it? Recently found out that with 3.5 they improved the damage it did.
Ninya Couteau |
I can't help but think of Bombaata when trying to envision Omar. Though Omar is of course more kind (and less duplicitous I hope). Not sure any of you other than Bobby (and even he doesn't know the reference) are old enough to have seen the movie (which wasn't all that good).
Zahra Senay |
I'm about to turn 50. Omar is older.
I haven't seen the film in question, but I'm definitely older than most of the people I game with!
Hmm

I saw Conan in the theaters when it originally came out. I can say the same thing about Star Wars, The New Hope.
I had to check IMDB to match the name to the character. Omar is more Arabic than that character and much more kind.

I saw A New Hope in the theaters as a first run too! I was 4. :)

And now I know how old you are. I was ten.

Look, let's just say I was 7 when I saw my first Star Wars movie, it just happened to be The Phantom Menace.

A whipper snapper! In my day, we walked barefoot to school uphill both ways through snow chest deep and liked it!
Bluff: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (16) + 13 = 29
Yeah, I'm lying. I grew up in California.
Zahra Senay |
At 7, it probably wasn't so bad! Kids are less critical viewers than adults.
Just to clarify, we're just waiting for Ranar's stealth roll before proceeding, correct?
Hmm
GM "The Fox" |
That, and I'm kind of busy today. :) I probably can post until tonight.
GM "The Fox" |
@ Tika, Ranar, and Ninya: Since you three are new to Play-by-Post, you may not know this. Many of us run initiative in blocks. All of the PCs in the same block can act in any order within that block.
So, for example, right now the block with Tika, Vorel, Zahra, and Ranar is up. Any of you in that block can act right now. Whoever posts first, acts first. After that block, the thugs will go, and then the next block of PCs will act.

Play-by-Post has some interesting conventions that do take getting used to, but they make the game move much faster when used.

Fox, I was in my in person game this evening and posted my gameplay quickly during a break. So I missed one minor thing. The order to Pumpkin was a) via message b) in Kelish.
(Because Kelish was the language that we gave Pumpkin when we gave him his point of linguistics...)
It probably doesn't change anything, but I thought you should know.

I had forgotten about message, but had assumed that you wanted to give the command in Kelish. Thanks.
None of the Aspis speak Kelish, but I think they might can tell that a tiger is pretty dangerous. ;)
(At least until they see the psycho-Wayang on the doomchicken.)

I know that Ranar has friends over at his house tonight, so we might not hear from him until tomorrow morning.

So with the Lunge feat, since they have to activate it is there something visible so I know if it is active?
GM "The Fox" |

Yes. They lunge forward, giving them extra reach. It is clear that they are using it.
However, they can only do so on their turn. You don't need to worry about Lunge for attacks of opportunity, for instance.
Vorel Mas |
If i'm not mistaken though, don't they take the -2 penalty to AC for a full round?
GM "The Fox" |
If i'm not mistaken though, don't they take the -2 penalty to AC for a full round?
Yep. And I've noted it in the Gameplay thread to remind myself of that even. ;)
Vorel Mas |
Oh nice, yeah that Gug you guys just fought in our home game had lunge, so I had to familiarize myself with the feat.
Zahra Senay |
You influence the actions of the target creature by suggesting a course of activity (limited to a sentence or two). The suggestion must be worded in such a manner as to make the activity sound reasonable. Asking the creature to do some obviously harmful act automatically negates the effect of the spell.
Isn't being asked to kill another Pathfinder something that will negate the spell, or provoke a will save?
GM "The Fox" |
I don't think so. I think that line prevents commands such as "Jump off that cliff."
However, a protection from... spell will allow a new saving throw (provided that the chosen alignment matches Devane's alignment).
I had forgotten to include prayer in Tika's save, but she failed by a considerable amount.
Zahra Senay |
Pumpkin has five mirror images. If he survives this round, I will touch Tika with Protection from Evil.
However, I think this Aspis guy just made a big mistake. He turned the most merciful person in the party -- the one who always tries to capture bad guys alive and uninjured -- into the murderous Keleshite princess from hell.
Zahra is NOT amused.

Can you use Dispel Magic to end the on-going effect of Suggestion? Is it considered an on-going effect?
GM "The Fox" |

You can. If there are higher CL effects up on her, it might dispel one of those instead. And if it tries to dispel suggestion and fails, it might dispel lower CL effects.
If you guys want, I can retcon it so that Tika is ordered to attack Vorel instead. I know he won't mind...much. I don't want to cause hard feelings.

I'd rather not that! She can't charge Pumpkin, she can charge me!
I think I can target just Suggestion,
. . . You can also use a targeted dispel to specifically end one spell affecting the target or one spell affecting an area (such as a wall of fire). You must name the specific spell effect to be targeted in this way. If your caster level check is equal to or higher than the DC of that spell, it ends. No other spells or effects on the target are dispelled if your check is not high enough to end the targeted effect. . .

with mirror image up that should help. and Tika has a cavalier ability that gives her a new save vs enchantment effects

but can i use that save so you dont have to roll again?

Combat Reflexes is a pain in PbP. If anyone has a better way to do attacks of opportunity, let me know.

People do know that you can do non-lethal damage if you take a -4 to hit with a weapon, right?
Alchemists bombs don't work for that, but there are always tanglefoot bags and other alchemical weapons that don't kill. I haven't looked to see exactly what people have available.
I'm suspecting that things will be much more difficult if we kill. A fair number of scenarios will dock you a prestige point for going murder-hobo, while others will have you arrested.

I'll note that the command to kill my animal companion aside, they've been fighting non-lethally. That's not normal Aspis tactics. They may be afraid of ticking off the law too.
Omar Senay |
Sorry, I've got a PFS scenario to GM today. I'll be out for much of the day.
BTW, please make sure that everyone is taking the Prayer into effect. Right now everyone looks to be within 40' of Omar.
Allies: +1 Luck bonus to Hit, Damage, Save, Skill Checks.
Foes: -1 Luck bonus to Hit, Damage, Save, Skill Checks.
I know that I missed it on a couple of skill rolls (but I did poorly enough that it probably didn't matter) and Ninya may have missed it with her last attack and damage.
The bad guys might have missed applying it a couple of times as well. It is much harder to tell with them.
GM "The Fox" |
Yeah, there were a couple places where prayer was omitted. The only thing that it changed was a couple of +1s to damage. I've updated it.
(All of the attacks that hit would still have hit, and all those that missed would still have missed.)
GM "The Fox" |

I'm glad someone noticed. :)
Zahra Senay |
All of which makes me feel really guilty about the snowball. I don't treat people lethally who don't treat me so... Normally.
I considered laying down an entangle and then hitting my friends with the feather step wand, but that would likely be more annoying to the team than anything else. Still, Zahra is pissed about the cavalier way he's handled both Tika and Pumpkin, casually ordering her tiger's death. So the sudden ruthlessness suddenly feels very much in character.

I feel for ya, just be glad that Tika couldn't charge Pumpkin. . .It'll be nice having Tika back in the action on our side, just in time to not kill anyone.
