Slachagok |
Whispering an invocation to his god, the half-orc runs off toward the party's aquatic ambusher. Though thigh deep in murky water and carrying a heavy suit of armor, the warpriest crosses the distance with surprising alacrity.
Use Travel Blessing as a swift action to ignore difficult terrain penalties for one round, move NW, Nx7. 2/3 blessings remaining.
Alafair Stormborn |
Alafair shouts to the others "Bring the wounded man back here if you can, I can heal him with the wand." She wades forward 20' into the water to be nearer if someone can bring him back from the melee.
She throws an electrical burst of elemental energy at the insectile creature, which is like nothing she has seen before.

The Broken GM |
Alafair's electric burst crackles across the creatures chitinous form and it slumps and goes limp in the water. The group haul Mrachni back to the pools edge in order to save him from becoming another occupant of this watery grave.
Rogar Valertis Alastoris |
Rushing towards the edge of the pool while dragging Mrachni out of the water Rogar jokes:"Nasty bug, eh? Now I suppose we get to heal our friend here and then search for a way to open this supposed door..."
Yarg Nairrod |
Same as before once he's up? I still have this scroll... Though I think I'll armour up in rememberance of this encounter.
He starts armouring up while medical aid is administered.
The Broken GM |
Once he is healed and able to concentrate again Mrachni recalls the circular hatch handle still appeared serviceable and could likely be opened with sufficient strength.

Slachagok |
Slachagok draws his weapon, but has no chance to strike before the insectoid horror succumbs to his allies' assault. With a shrug, he resheathes his greatsword and trundles back through the murk to join the other Pathfinders ashore.
"That one had th' taste for green flesh," he grimaces, examining Mrachni's gaping abdominal wound. The warpriest cocks his wrist back then snaps it forward with a flourish, launching a wand into his palm from a hidden spring-loaded sheath. He swipes the device over his unconscious compatriot, then taps Mrachni on the chest.

Mrachni coughs a bit and opens his eyes, nodding at the other orc in gratitude. "Thank you..." he says, climbing slowly to his feet. "I hope there are no more of those out there."
Checking his sword and armor bundle, he nods and heads back out to the trap door. "Ready?" he asks the others.
Map updated. DM, is there any way for me to reimburse Slachagok for the CLW charge? 15gp is a lot for a level 1 PC. :)
Yarg Nairrod |
In general don't worry about it - just assume a karmic debt. Buy a wand of CLW with 2pp post game and never refuse a newb healing... Speaking of which...
Yarg also taps the wounded half Orc with his wand - 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2 Hps back.
The Broken GM |
What Yarg said, generally speaking you are returning the favour by being up front being mauled, etc. Generally wands of cure light are great because they free healers up to do fun stuff instead of heal, and fifty charges goes a long way.
Rogar Valertis Alastoris |
"Let's get ovr with this, then!" says Rogar wlaking to the middle of the pool. As soon as he gets there Rogar starts to pull on the handle.

Together Rogar and Mrachni are able to get the hatch open, and once they do the waters begin to pour into the darkness below. As the waters begin to whirl those in the pool begin to feel them, selves being sucked into the dark below! And Deris rushes forward hurling himself into the whirlpool.
Both Rogar and Mrachni are swept off their feet by the torrent and vanish into the darkness below followed by Marchilen.

DM, apologies - Mrachni doesn't currently have his armor on, so his ACP (and Acrobatics bonus) is 0. I don't suppose that makes a difference?
If not, HP now 4/11. :P
Rogar Valertis Alastoris |
"Ouch! Not the way I would have chosen to come down here but... at least we did it all in one piece... more or less" says Rogar getting on his feet and hurling Marchilen down in the process.
"Get down here people! In the meanwhile we'll do a preliminary recognition" so saying the young taldan unsheates his sword and walks forward until he reaches the first corridor on his right
Mrachni Swordfollower |
Mrachni holds up one hand and puts his armor on before drawing his sword and indicating he's ready to continue.
Alafair Stormborn |
Satisfied that her electrical discharge did the slug thing in, Alafair watches as the others does out healing to the wounded man. "I have a wand as well, should the need arise boys. Glad to be the artillery from the rear this time. Sorry you had to take a bite, Mrachni, but glad there was just one guardian."
She steps back as the boys open the hatch, only to be frustrated when they get banged up going down the drain. After the water and the water-logged bodies wash down, Alafair slowly makes her way down the chute.
Arriving at the bottom, she whispers "Lumos!" and light springs forth from the weapon of Rogar, the brave Taldan warrior in the lead.
"What with the disaster above, and this being an old burial ground, I would expect the unquiet dead here. Prepare whatever form of weapon or blessing you will against them."
She takes out a different wand and taps herself calling out the command word, and a flash of energy encircles her, adding protection in case of attack. The warding aura sizzles and crackles and a faint scent of ozone is present.
Her wand is mage armor. Her AC moves to 16/12/14 for the duration, which is 1 hour.

Don't worry about it. If you could buy charges piecemeal, that might be one thing, but since they come in lots of 50, by the time you burn through your first one, you'll probably be long past the point of caring much about double-digit amounts. Slach certainly mooched enough charges in his first mission.
Slachagok can only watch as his allies are drawn down through the massive funnel. Once the whirlpool forces subside, he tromps once more over to the center of the room, and shouts down the hole:
"Are ye alright?!"
If the way ahead seems less than highly perilous, he will lower himself into the
On second thought, if the hole is deeper than 10 feet, Slach will take his 50-ft roll of hemp rope and tie it to the nearest secure point (one of the rocks on the edge?) and then rappel down.
The Broken GM |
Yes that was high enough to avoid the damage Mrachni.
The rest of the group move over to the hatch and can see slippery but serviceable handholds leading down. With care all are able to descend without real danger. The stone corridors are dark save for the groups light sources, and the wan light of the sun from the hatch above.
Happy New Year!
Mrachni Swordfollower |
Hurray! Happy New Year to you too!
Mrachni puts his armor on while the rest of the group descends, though he frowns as the magical light appears on Rogar's blade. "It would perhaps be better if Yarg and I led the way, and the light remain hidden for a time?" he asks.
Rogar Valertis Alastoris |
Looking down the corridor on his right Rogar decides to first check what lies in front of him and walks towards the corner.
Happy New Year everyone! :P
The Broken GM |
Looking around the corner Rogar sees a staircase descending into darkness below. Unfortunately it is flooded and clogged with rubble and debris, it would take a great deal of work to explore it and clearly must wait for another expedition if ever.
Rogar Valertis Alastoris |
Rogar advances a couple of steps forward before voicing his disappointment:"It's a dead end on this side! Seems like everything is flooded down here!"
Alafair Stormborn |
Dang, my post from yesterday didn't show up. Trying to re-create.
"If you want me to remove the light source, just say the word and it's gone." says Alafair as she watches all the big strong boys explore the underground reliquary.
She readies a Magic Missile spell in case an enemy appears behind the door when Yarg or someone else opens it the rest of the way.
Rogar Valertis Alastoris |
"Here I am! Don't try to steal all the fun for yourselves!" says Rogar taking a rearguard position, blade still in hand.
Mrachni Swordfollower |
Mrachni growls softly. "Turn off that light and keep your voice down. You'll warn everything within a furlong of here that we're coming."
The Broken GM |
No readying out of combat. Thats what surprise rounds are for.
Yarg moves forward and pushes the door open revealing the large chamber beyond.
Carved pillars in the corners of this chamber hold aloft a double-vaulted ceiling of cracked frescos. On either side of the chamber, a single step leads up into a deeply recessed area that forms an arched room of its own.
Shambling towards him is a grisly monstrosity which looks like the long dead water sodden corpse of some hairy humanoid creature with large cataract covered eyes and a pelt of mangy fur. It carries a rusty, but still vicious looking morningstar and lets out a low mindless moan as it advances.
