Dar'erthan |
Climbing down the trap door and opening the door to the east, the party finds themselves in a corridor with two more doors and another hallway that seems to head further east. A few crates of smuggled goods are stacked to the south.
Keep going east...
"Keep on through the door opposite." suggest Dar'erthan
GM Hawkeye |
A quick glance at the door shows no mechanical traps of any kind. Opening the door, you see a padded cot sits to the south, with a platter of chicken bones picked clean sitting on the floor next to it. To the north is a large, empty crate. The stale scent of body odor permeates the air.
Surprise Round Attack: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 2 = 9
As Evanstar and Arthrax step into the room, a skulk lunges at Arthrax from out of the shadows. Fortunately, it's shortsword merely bounces off the fighter's armor.
Apologies for not giving you all the benefit of perception checks, but it didn't look like anyone could trump her sneak check of 30.

GM Hawkeye |
Reflex Check: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (12) + 5 = 17
Arthax's attack swings wide and misses as Misforstatt's tanglefoot bag hits the skulk square in the chest. However, it doesn't glue the creature to the floor.
It continues it's attack on Arthrax by stabbing at him with it's shortsword.
Attack: 1d20 + 2 - 2 ⇒ (13) + 2 - 2 = 13
However, the weapon proves of little use.
Looks Like Dolph is up.
Dolph, Son of a Shepherd |
Dolph moves to the far side of the creature. He will get an AoO for me moving through his threatened squares.
"VICTOR! POACHERS! FLANK WITH DOLPH. We must capture him so he can spill legumes like Great Aunt without her spectacles!"
Handle Animal (flank): 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (11) + 7 = 18
Dolph readies to attack when he gets a flank from Victor.
Attack with Dorn-dergar (outflank, nonlethal): 1d20 + 4 + 4 - 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 + 4 - 4 = 5
Damage: 1d10 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 11
Victor's brow furrows at the "p-word" and rushes into a flank. He will provoke too if the guy has Combat Reflexes.

GM Hawkeye |
AoO against Dolph: 1d20 + 2 - 2 ⇒ (18) + 2 - 2 = 18
Damage: 1d6 ⇒ 4
The skulk lashes out at Dolph as he moves past, slashng his arm. Dolph tries to repay the favor but his swing goes wild, missing the creature. Victor's aim is spot on as he gores the creature in the hip while Evantar wades in to finish the job, killing the skulk with a powerful swing.
Out of combat.
Arthrax Bellringer |
Grimacing as another of the murderous creatures just got laid low, Arthrax sweeps the room quickly with his eyes.
Perception: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (14) + 1 = 15
If he sees nothing, barring one of the others asking or demanding that he wait, he will step to the next door, ready to open it once the others are ready.
Dolph, Son of a Shepherd |
Dolph taps himself with his cure light wounds wand.
Cure Light Wounds: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
"Good work, Victor! An turnip for you, yes?" As Dolph puts away his wand, he retrieves a turnip and gives it to Victor.

GM Hawkeye |
Arthrax kicks in the door to find a small room that is bare except for several tall stacks of crates and boxes. Many of them are labeled to addresses and ports of call other than Absolam. On the other side of this room are a pair of steel double-doors pushed wide open. Inside, you see a woman with her back to you as she empties out a chest of coins into a backpack. Upon hearing the door slam open, she turns to face you, a look of pure hatred on her face. "You killed my husband, destroyed my guild and my business, and ruined the biggest heist we had ever tried! You'll die for this, I swear!" she screams as she draws a bomb and prepares to throw.

Move Action: Get out of everybody's way!
Standard Action: Bomb: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9, Damage: 1d6 + 5 ⇒ (6) + 5 = 11
That's likely a miss. So she takes 6 HP of splash damage or DC 15 reflex save for half.
Evenstar |
"I suppose there's a lesson here for you about messing with the wrong people!" Evenstar responds as she advances toward the woman.
"We're not too thrilled to see you, either, by the way!" she says as she angrily slashes at the alchemist with her greatsword.
MW Greatsword Power Attack: 1d20 + 6 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 6 + 2 = 12 for Greatsword damage: 2d6 + 9 + 3 ⇒ (2, 3) + 9 + 3 = 17 Raging
Looks like a miss, but just a reminder that she is still flat-footed since she hasn't acted yet.
GM Hawkeye |
Ref. Save: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (15) + 4 = 19
Robella dives to the side as the bomb goes off, avoiding most of the damage. However, the blast distracts her from the charging barbarian who hacks a huge gash in her shoulder. Seeing that this is going to be a physical fight, she switches the bomb for a strange vial and gulps it down. Immediately her physicall form twists and contorts. Her arms elongate and bulk up with muscle as her fingers extend into claws while simultaneously, her mouth stretches into a maw as her teeth sharpen.
Party is up!
Arthrax Bellringer |
Arthrax strides into the room, following his overzealous companions. He steps in front of the tiefling, axe at the ready in case the woman/thing decides to take aggression upon him.
Move me to the right of Mis, ready action to action should she come in range.
Dar'erthan |
Dar'erthan follows the others through the double doors, as he hears the threat. He points at the woman and says "Let the holy fire burn those who fight against Sarenrae's greatness." A flame appears at the end of his finger and shoots towards the woman.

"Do not let your back fur tremble, Victor. Dolph will 'lead' the way!"
Dolph moves forward and casts Lead Blades.
Dolph laughs like he just made a joke.
Misforstått |
Not wanting to harm his friends, Misforstått chucks a bomb at a square adjacent to the enemy (but not adjacent to any of his allies. (I've marked this on the map with a red square.)

Ref. Check: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (14) + 8 = 22
Repeating their previous tactics, Misforstatt throws a bomb while Evanstar takes advantage of the distraction to land a heavy blow. This time, however, the blow proves fatal as the barbarian completely removes Robella's head. With a heavy thud, the she falls to the floor as her head roles off into a corner.
Out of Combat!
Looking around the room, you realize that almost all of the goods and treasure in this room is stolen merchandise from around the city; a silver chalice from the temple of Erastil, a few trinkets reportted missing by Mrs. Walder, and so on. It looks like Robella was trying to take off with as much of the treasure as she could carry.
With their leaders dead and their base of operations discovered, the few surviving members of the thieves guild disappear into the shadows, never to be seen in Absolam again. The captured rogue from above is brought before Sheriff Feldane and confesses all he knows, completely exonerating the Umbra Carnival in the process. The crowds return to the carnival and performances sell out. The town seeks a replacement for the kindhearted Sister Woodmere, as well as guardians for the Braeton children.
Throughout the remainder of the carnival, you're hailed as heroes and saviors wherever you go on the circus grounds. Even Venture Captain Valsin gives you a nod of approval as you turn in the contract. "Good work out there, Pathfinders. I'll put you in for some R&R. You definitely earned it."
The End.
Evenstar |
"And I thought the circus WAS going to be the R&R!" Evenstar exclaims.
"Well-done, everyone! I would fight with any of you any day! Now let's go pick a bar fight!" she laughs.
Thanks SO much for running that, GM Hawkeye! That was super fun, and I also enjoyed all the players. Yay!
Dar'erthan |
Dar'erthan bows to his head to everyone at the conclusion, aand says softly "May the sunlight of Sarenrae forever shine on you and protect you in your fights against evil." He smiles, pulling out a shiny coin, "Let the tavern see my coin, and our thirsts be quenched." he continues as he claps Evenstar's back and follows her to get the drinks in.
Echoes Evenstar's thoughts entirely.
