"Very good eysight, Gracious Lady Nigh," Misforstått bows low. "Perhaps, after our mission is over, you would allow me the honor of examining your eyeballs?"
Disable Device: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (15) + 4 = 19
The alchemist attempts to safely remove the hazard.

![]() |

"My word, this is an ornery device! Might I bother one of you for some assistance?"
Can anyone cast guidance?
Disable Device (before any possible assistance): 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (11) + 4 = 15
D'oh! Well, at least a javelin to the face won't make the tiefling any uglier...

![]() |

Aurora doesn't have it either. Sorry, Misforstatt...
The teifling continues to work on the trap and fails again, only this time he snaps the wire, triggering the javelin.
Javelin Attack: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (13) + 15 = 28
Javelin Damage: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8
Ooh, ouch...
Before Misforstatt can react, the javelin hits him right in the shoulder, driving through him and sticking into the door, effectively pinning him until the javelin is removed.

![]() |

Arthrax pauses, his hand inches from the doorknob. He backs away slowly, not really knowing what is going on. Once pointed out, he spies the wire and javelin. "Thanks, Sarephta."
The fighter nods to the cleric. "We might as well try the other door, just to see."

![]() |

Sarephta moves toward the wounded teifling and assists in removing the javelin.
"It will be okay," she says as she reaches out and places her hand on his shoulder.
CLW: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
I will burn these gauntlets once we get home.

![]() |

As Arthrax prepares to leave the room, he hears the sound of the trap setting off. Turning back, he sees the alchemist pinned against the door. He winces as the priestess removes the javelin and administers healing, then shrugs and moves back to the door.

![]() |

LOL. And I told him "It will be okay"! He's just really dirty and I'm devoted to a goddess with a cleanliness portolio! "Personal cleanliness as well as an honorable demeanor are both very important for [Iomedae's] followers." Just trying to RP! :)

![]() |

Sorry, but he's self-described as "He leaves behind him a surprisingly voluminous trail--a salty, slimy mix of tears, mucus, and other body sloughings." Then he's trying to hug Sarephta and gaze into her eyes! My character is repulsed! On a personal note, I really, really like Misforstatt and his great RPing! :)

![]() |

Oh, and I'm an aasimar and he's a tiefling...but enough. I really like him. :)
"Go ahead, Arthrax," Sarephta says.
Feeling a little bad for her previous thoughts, she says "Open the door. Our heroic trapfinder, though wounded in our defense, appears ready to proceed."

![]() |

GM Hawkeye, I don't mind! :-) It's admittedly an odd character concept that I have here. I'm trying to stay true to the low-Charisma thing. Plus, Sarephta and I just played together in another PbP game, and I have a great deal of respect for the player on a personal level. I adore the way that PatheticWretch (forum name) role-plays! :-D I don't know the others in this game, but it's all good. Thanks for looking out for me, though! I appreciate it. Personally, I'm having a blast playing this guy.

Misforstått also uses a charge from his CLW wand to top off his HP:
CLW: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6
Then he hands the wand back to Aurora. (See discussion thread.)
"Thank you for your assistance, Gracious Lady Nigh. Misbegotten Misforstått will try to be more careful in the future."

![]() |

With only a little apprehension, Arthrax again reaches for the door to open it, pausing slightly before pushing the portal open. As he does so, he wonders about how a javelin through his body caused no tears from the strange man, but hurt feelings had him blubbering like a baby.
The warrior shakes his head minutely, clearing away this pondering for later. The speech of some of his companions was already on the uppity end, and trying to wax philosophical on top of that would likely render Arthrax a complete mess. Eyes on the prize. Whatever the prize was here.

![]() |

he wonders about how a javelin through his body caused no tears from the strange man, but hurt feelings had him blubbering like a baby.
LOL! :-) He's an alchemist. He experiments on himself all the time. Thus, he is accustomed to physical discomfort. What he values most is emotional acceptance.

Misforstått inches up beside Groot. Without touching the treant sapling, the tiefling tries to make a close visual inspection.
"Fascinating!" says the alchemist. "This creature's contiguous external integument belies no secrets regarding the single-minded nature he evinces... Oh, how I would love to examine you--you beautiful, mysterious thing!"

![]() |

Blah blah blah, Arthrax hears from the alchemist. Having no understanding of tree-monsters, and not really desiring to learn any more, Arthrax throws open the door, axe at the ready, shield up to intercept weapons or traps or overly enthusiastic alchemists.

![]() |

Hm. I took the liberty of re-arranging Arthrax and Misforstått on the map to more accurately reflex the actions stated above.
Also, is Kadur Ironhand still playing with us? He hasn't posted in over a week (since Aug 26).

Racks for weapons line the walls of this chamber; above the racks hang various shields, pieces of armor, weapons, and standards on display. Most of the racks are empty, but a few weapons remain in place. A horrible stench fills the room as well, akin to the smell of rotten eggs mixed with the reek of an open sewer. As you open the door, two scaly reptilian humanoids jump up from where they were sitting and charge at you!
Inititative:
Aurora: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (14) + 4 = 18
Darcy: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8
Kadur: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4
Misforstatt: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5
Sarephta: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9
Arthrax: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (9) + 1 = 10
Monsters: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (1) - 1 = 0
The party is up!

![]() |

I know this one is tough to remember, but I should have two initiative rolls and pick the best one with my Seize the Initiative ability. To make up for it, I'll just go first! ;P
Sarephta moves quickly into the room, the powerful stench assaulting her senses. However, she is able to overcome the sickening aroma.
She stabs at one of the creatures with her longspear.
"Let's hope they don't smell worse on the inside!" she says as her spear pierces the creature's side.
Attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (14) + 5 = 19 for damage: 1d8 + 6 ⇒ (4) + 6 = 10
Fort save: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (13) + 4 = 17

![]() |

Taking a zig zag pattern so as not to draw additional attacks upon himself, Arthrax steps towards their enemies, nose wrinkling at the smell. This seemed to be a recurring theme on this little jaunt. He raises his axe up, looking to make quick work of the creature.
Battleaxe: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (15) + 6 = 21
Damage: 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7
If Sarephta manages to drop the first one, Arthrax will move to the second creature, charging if needed, in order to attack it.

![]() |
Darcy dashes into the room, light on his feet. He takes up a position in front of Sarephta. He turns his head slightly to look at her as he moves in. "My apologies, Lady. This is the best place to strike from. I shall remove myself shortly." He slashes at the reptilian humanoid facing Arthrax with an upward diagonal swing from foot to neck.
Attack with Longsword: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (20) + 5 = 25
Damage: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9
Crit Confirmation Roll: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (11) + 5 = 16
Damage: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9
If the other two dropped the first humanoid, then I have enough movement to reach the second one.

![]() |

Ahh, my apologies for forgetting the second initiative roll.
Sarephta and Arthax combine thier efforts to bring down the first scapy humaniod while Mr. Darcy shows the group how a sophisticated man dispatches his enemies, felling the creature in one blow.
Out of combat! Wow, nice rolls everybody! And just an FYI, but I forgot to mention that anybody who gets within 30 of these scaly reptilians needs to make a fort. save since the things smell akin to rotten eggs and raw sewage. I'll wave it this time since I forgot to tell you all.

![]() |

Tears welling in his eyes, Misforstått mumbles wistfully, "Smells like home..."
Cleraing his throat, the tiefling continues, "Excellent work. It appears we have a skilled party. Gracious Lady Nigh, Gallant Sir Bellringer, and Dashing Sir Arzanour are all very efficient specimen takers. And Regal Lady Aurora commands the amazing Single-Minded Groot!"
Then, the alchemist moves into the room, gathers a few specimens, and looks around.
Perception: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (18) + 4 = 22
Survival: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (10) + 4 = 14
Moved on map.

![]() |

There is nothing on these reptiles that you want. The only thing they have to their name is a club, and they're sticky and smell putrid. However, you do find a few things on the weapon racks; a masterwork silver dagger, a masterwork light steel shield emblazoned with a leaping dolphin, and a banner depicting a bird made of living flame.

![]() |

Misforstått moves to the northernmost door in this room. While Arthrax (and, perhaps, the rest of the party) examines the bodies, weapon racks, and banner, the alchemist takes 20 on his perception check to look for traps getting a 24.
He thinks to himself, "I promised the Gracious Lady Nigh to be more careful. I wouldn't want any of my new friends to get hit by another javelin!"
If there's time, the tiefling will similarly examine the middle door to the east.

![]() |

Opening the door, you find a room full of shelving. Judging from the shelves lining the walls, this darkened room might once have been a storeroom, though its contents have long since succumbed to the passage of time. A crack in the northern wall has apparently let in some rainwater, which has collected in a large puddle on the floor. As you enter, you look down to see a dog-sized lizard with two horns, one on either side of its head, come out from underneath a table. As it looks at you with curiousity, you notice that it's green scales crackle with sparks of lightning.

![]() |

Misforstått does a double-take, not understanding the wry nature of Sarephta's suggestion. "But, Gracious Lady Nigh, how shall we then acquire samples of the lizard?" His head tilts to one side. It's very much the same sort of expression a domestic dog makes when it doesn't understand that playtime is over.
Knowledge(Nature) on the lizard: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (6) + 9 = 15

![]() |

Arthrax grins at Sarephta's comment, then gives Mis a long-suffering look over the shoulder.
"Much as I would like to forget that I saw that thing, our charter is clear. We must remove all monsters from this building. Electro-lizards count as monsters in my book. Anyone have any wisdom to impart?"
The fighter stands near the door, getting ready to confront...whatever that thing was.

![]() |

"Perhaps we should kill it so that our inquisitive friend can obtain his samples," Sarephta agrees.
"Further...we need to explore that room, and it doesn't seem to want to move."

![]() |

"Hm."
If we're going into combat/initiative.
Initiative: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (13) + 4 = 17
- Move Action: The alchemist pulls out an acid flask.
- Standard Action: Ranged Touch: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (18) + 3 = 21 , Damage: 1d6 ⇒ 3
- Free Action: "As the Lady and the Sir wish. Far be it for Misbegotten Misforstått to go against the wishes of his friends."
- Swift Action: 5-foot-step out of the way to let the melee types do that thing they do!

![]() |
Darcy begins wiping off the reptilian blood from his longsword with a handkerchief as the party notices the small electric lizard. "A strange creature."
Darcy looks at his sword again, then back at the lizard. "I suppose if we must slay this creature, a more restrained approach might be appropriate." He frowns as he sheathes his sword and draws his bow. "Electrocution is most uncomfortable."
