Itamar delays until everyone is together to cast Plane Shift
Does this include 42 and Naala? Are you waiting for them to be recovered too?
Do also remember that you will arrive at least 5 and up to 500 miles from your intended destination. Where will your intended destination be?

![]() |

If the others are with us, Alden will call to Naala in the hopes of locating her before we are all teleported away.

FiddlersGreen |

If the others are with us, Alden will call to Naala in the hopes of locating her before we are all teleported away.
You're still missing 42 at the moment. Are you going to wait for 42 to be found before calling Naala, or are you just going to call out to her this turn?
Note that you can also post an action for Naala. From her perspective, she can hear which direction the fight is in, but she's keeping quiet for the moment.

FiddlersGreen |

Huh...something interesting just happened.
Still waiting on Rhon and Alden.

![]() |

You hear 42 shout, "I'm over here. Keep together and I'll find you again. Just got to take care of this shadow thing."

![]() |

Rhon passes off his axe to Earl and makes ready to try to destroy a shadow using positive energy from his lay on hands.
"By Torag's grace these foul creatures shall be destroyed."

![]() |

Earl takes up the Dwarven Waraxe and makes ready to strike the next shadow that tries to assail him.

FiddlersGreen |

I do prefer that you all pre-roll your readied attacks.
Alden calls out to Naala, hoping to call her to his side so they can all get out of this hell-hole.
You hear a familiar howl and the sound of screens tearing. It is not too far, but the progress will be slow as you well know.
Matamah prepares the group to make their stand whilst waiting for Naala and 42 to group up with them. Just as he finishes his preparations, he hears 42's voice. It appears he is back, and intends to engage a shadow on his own.
Rhon passes his axe to Earl, and charges his own hand with positive energy. Since they are using negative energy against you, it seems to him only fair and appropriate. Rand also prepares to attack, but extends two fingers rather than balling them all into a fist. What could he be planning?
Meanwhile, Itamar bides his time, waiting for his allies to gather before he gets them all out of this hell-hole. Besides, waiting around makes it easier to bear the load of the frightfully heavy armor he is wearing. Was it always this heavy?
And then they come. The first shadow emerges near Earl, confident that it has nothing to fear from the earth elemental's fists. It recoils a little when it seems Rhon's axe in the elemental's hands as it is swung at its face.
attack roll: 1d20 + 14 - 5 + 1 - 4 ⇒ (2) + 14 - 5 + 1 - 4 = 8 I assume Earl is not proficient?
miss chance: 1d100 ⇒ 66
Unused to wielding manufactured weapons, Earl fumbles the attack and tears a chunk out of the screen instead. The shadow reaches for his face.
attack roll: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (6) + 11 = 17
damage: 1d8 ⇒ 7
miss chance: 1d100 ⇒ 32
The shadow reaches out to Earl for an easy strike, but at the last moment, Alden pulls Earl back just out of reach. The shadow hisses angrily as it withdraws into the wall once more.
The next shadow...does not come for Earl. Instead, you hear a surprised yelp as some other poor creature comes under attack!
attack roll: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (19) + 11 = 30
damage: 1d8 ⇒ 8
miss chance: 1d100 ⇒ 89
but pat you it does, and you feel cold... so very cold... and weak. Where is Alden? You miss Alden. And you're definitely not going to let that black thing touch you again if you can help it!
Rand prepares himself to be attacked, but then realises that he was closest to the direction from which he heard 42's voice, and begins to guess what might be happening...
The shadow reaches out to touch you...
attack roll: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (20) + 11 = 31Oh shit.
damage: 1d8 ⇒ 2
miss chance: 1d100 ⇒ 37
confirmation roll: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (18) + 11 = 29
crit damage: 1d8 ⇒ 1 LOL a confirmed crit and he does less than an average normal hit
...before slipping through the screen in the opposite direction from your friends. You shadow's hand does no physical damage, but leaves a deep lingering chill unlike anything you've known, and you feel a little weaker for it.
Finally the last shadow comes, but this time it goes for Rand instead of Itamar, evidently prefering not to have to deal with a plethora of images. But Rand reaches out first and sends a burst of ki through his fingers into the shadowy form.
will save: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (14) + 7 = 21 Due to your negative level, your DC is lowered by 1, so it actually just makes it!
The shadow ignores the burst of ki and reaches for Rand anyway...
attack roll: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (11) + 11 = 22
damage: 1d8 ⇒ 4
miss chance: 1d100 ⇒ 100
But Rand is trained in avoiding attacks without relying on petty steel and leather, and he evades the touch the way he would evade any blade or spear - through sheer skill! The shadow withdraws behind the screens in frustration.

You know that incorporeal creatures don't have a miss chance any more right? They just take 1/2 damage from magic weapons and no damage from non-magic weapons.

Alden will continue to aid his allies in any way possible, and try to urge them toward Naala's howl if possible.
Naala will break down as many screens as possible in a furious effort to reach Alden's side.

![]() |

Itamar will move with the group readying to get them out once everyone is together

![]() |

42 will leave this square and head towards his allies. Doing a full retreat in the process.
Upon seeing them, he will wave. "this is an interesting trap, but I think it's an easy one to get out of again."

![]() |

"this is an interesting trap, but I think it's an easy one to get out of again."
Pray tell man, otherwise I can get us back relatively close to the mansion

![]() |

"oh, I walked..." he looks around"which way did I walk.. Well anyways, I ended up outside looking at the board again.

FiddlersGreen |

You know that incorporeal creatures don't have a miss chance any more right? They just take 1/2 damage from magic weapons and no damage from non-magic weapons.
The miss chance is due to them attacking from within the walls. It's listed in the book as a tactic that they use in here, including the miss chance.
42 has lost his bearings upon returning, but Itamar can tell him taht he went towards the left side of the map.
What do the others do?

![]() |

Left is the way out!, Great job 42, you may have saved us from a trip to the middle of the ocean. Let's get outta here

![]() |

Matamah would like to change his actions to go that way instead of to the right. :)
REMEMBER: INSPIRE COURAGE +3, HASTE, AND FLAG (+5 to weapon attack rolls, +4 to weapon damage rolls, +1 dodge AC, +1 Reflex Saves, extra attack on full attack, double movement up to 30 ft. extra)

![]() |

Well if everyone is together and no one has a better idea, I will Plane Shift us outside the mansion. If we are not together, I guess we are moving left until we get out. I'll give everyone a chance to chime in

![]() |

42 looks around, "We're still missing one. Where's Naala?

![]() |

Rhon meanwhile remains ready to strike a shadow with the positive energy of his Lay on Hands.
Melee Touch Attack: 1d20 + 15 + 3 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (20) + 15 + 3 + 1 + 1 = 40
Lay on Hands: 6d6 ⇒ (2, 2, 3, 3, 5, 2) = 17

FiddlersGreen |

Alden calls out to Naala whilst continuing to defend his allies.
You bite and tear at the strage screen in front of you, desperately trying to get to Alden before the black thing comes again, but you are feeling so weak and weary...
STR check: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (8) - 1 = 7
You throw yourself against the screen and push it down, getting a little closer to your destination.
Earl points to the screens next to him (diagonal bottom-right on the map).
Matamah is able to ascertain that the next sqaures to the left of your 15ftx1ft sanctuary are unoccupied, but are still bordered by more shogi screens. He also keeps up his buffs.
Meanwhile, 42 rushes through into view and tells you all of an exit from this place! Apparently it lies not far in the opposite direction he came from (i.e. to the left of the map).
Rhon and Earl ascertain that there is someone or something corporeal not too far from Rhon. They also prepare to strike any shadows that appear, and so does Rand.
Itamar still prepares to plane shift you all out of here.
But you realise that an easier way to get out would be to just clear a path to the exit to the left by blasting away with shogi screens with a line or cone effect damaging spell in that direction. Even a simple burning hands spell should do the trick, though it would only clear the path for one round, so you should probably wait till you are all ready to run through.
And then the shadows come again. The first shadow is fixated on Earl, coming up through the left wall and reaching out for Earl as the elemental swings its axe at the shadow.
Earl attack roll: 1d20 + 14 - 5 + 1 - 4 ⇒ (9) + 14 - 5 + 1 - 4 = 15
miss chance: 1d100 ⇒ 55
Earl's lack of proficiency continues to prevent him from making a hit. Meanwhile, the shadow retaliates...
attack roll: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (12) + 11 = 23
miss chance: 1d100 ⇒ 48
damage: 1d8 ⇒ 4
And saps more of Earl's strength, slowly wearing him down...
attack roll: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (13) + 11 = 24
miss chance: 1d100 ⇒ 62
damage: 1d8 ⇒ 6
But it pats you anyway with its cold, cold touch. You feel close to blacking out...
Meanwhile, 42 and Rand find themselves under attack from shadows as well.
attack roll: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (1) + 11 = 12
miss chance: 1d100 ⇒ 84
damage: 1d8 ⇒ 1
attack roll: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (7) + 11 = 18
miss chance: 1d100 ⇒ 39
damage: 1d8 ⇒ 6
Neither shadow hits their mark, and one of the shadow gets a new black... err... blacker... eye for its trouble.

----walls reform----
All of you are up again. Naala is close but in very bad shape. Earl is slowly getting whittled down.
If Earl breaks down the screen for Naala and someone else blasts a line or cone at the screens to the left, you should be able to open a path for all of you to get out. The red line on the map shows which screen 42 passed through to get out of this place.
Edit:Someone will probably need to carry Naala out. SHe is on 2 STR and does not even have the strength to move under all her armor.

![]() |

Rand is going to try something different. He will defensively attack all of the screens he can reach, and hopefully see either Naala or one of the shadows.

![]() |

42 shouts out, "Naala, howl! as soon as she does, 42 will move in that direction.

FiddlersGreen |

Naala's likely location is on the map. Rand, if you take a 5ft step, you'll be able to smash the screen, and someone else can go pick up Naala.

![]() |

I can do that then.

![]() |

I can pick up Naala

![]() |

The plane shift is probably the safer option since we are very hurt on strength right now, but think the exit that was found is also reasonable. I will go with the majority of the party.

![]() |

Poor Naala! Yeah we should probably use whatever is safer, at this point.
Alden hears Naala yelp again, but knows that rushing off on his own is not the way to save her. He points in the direction that she seems to come from. "We must save Naala!"

![]() |

Very good then, once the group is together, Itamar casts Plane Shift on the group aiming for the nearest PF Lodge.
How Close Are We: 5d100 ⇒ (59, 31, 25, 62, 69) = 246...246 miles

FiddlersGreen |

Itamar, one problem with your choice of destination: the nearest lodge is the only one in Tian Xia, which is the one set up by Amara Li in Goka... and which is across the continent from Minkai where you are at. This will put you well out of the range of a teleport spell to get back. Do you want to choose another destination?

Well unless anyone has a better idea how about on the front porch of the mansion

FiddlersGreen |

You are the one casting the spell, so front porch of the mansion it is.
Earl hammers down the screen to reveal a whimpering Naala hiding behind. Rand quickly rushes up to the ailing wolf and drags her close as Itamar recites his spell.
You all feel a lurch as Itamar's spell pulls you not only through space, but through the very dimensions themselves. Your vision swims momentarily, and when it clears, you have arrived at 1d20 ⇒ 9 (lol) a ledge on the side of a mountain.
Ok, you're on a random mountain. You know you are between 5 and 500 miles from Yugureda's villa. Now what? XD

![]() |

Well we aren't getting strength drained soooo better?
Alright let's get everyone fixed up and then figure out where the heck we are
I have 7 lesser restorations for whomever needs it

FiddlersGreen |

Given how far you are from the mansion, the only feasible way of getting back on track for your mission that I can see would be to risk a teleport, really.
Alternatively, you could use a good knowledge local roll or magic to determine your location and use some form of very rapid transportation, such as a wind walk spell.

Itamar, I think it would be quickest if you just allocated the healing yourself. Basically, everyone except for Alden is in need of restoration.

![]() |

Sadly I do not have K;Local 1d3 ⇒ 1
Itamar will bring 42 up to full with 3 if he stops that confounded blinking and use 4 on himself.
Looks like I will go full on healbot tomorrow
DM:I bet you didn't see this turn of events coming 8>)

FiddlersGreen |

I actually engineered this as a possibility. The book said absolutely nothing about dispel magic affecting the board or the screen. =p 42 on the other hand legitimately discovered the exit given in the book.
Remember, I'm not out to TPK you guys, but as I have mentioned several times, this module ain't easy. =)
So is the plan to use up all the lesser restorations for today, and then rest for more restorations? How are you getting 7 lesser restorations btw? Do you have an ability to spontaneously convert spells to lesser restorations?
Also, 42 is only down 3 points of STR. I think at the moment Earl and Naala are the ones that need it most. Please make the rolls for the spells and indicate who is receiving which rolls.

![]() |

Don't have knowledge local, but am a jack-of-all-trades (yay bard!) so can use all skills untrained. Also kept my loremaster skill, so...
He will take 20 for 46 on Knowledge (Nature), or take 20 for... 20 on Knowledge (Local), whichever will help. Or both if needed because he has 2 uses. XD

![]() |

"Welp, this is a right fine pile of dust. Anyone have a clue where we are now?"
Rhon is forced out of his defensive stance due to the plane shift. Moved against his will. Rhon takes back his axe from Earl.
"So how do we get back to where we need to be?"

![]() |

Also, 42 is a dex build Magus. So most of his damage comes from that.

![]() |

I don't have knowledge: local either. Or any knowledge skills, for that matter.
"I have no idea where we are either, and being in the mountains doesn't help. There are a lot of mountains in Tien Xia. Does anyone have any flight magic they can use on the group? if so, we can fly away from the mountain and maybe see if we can get a view of where we are."
Perception Check to look out off the mountain for signs of civilization: 1d20 + 21 ⇒ (18) + 21 = 39

![]() |

My suggestion would be for Itamar to prepare a couple Wind Walk spells tomorrow and we can move 60 MPH to a location. XD

![]() |

Perception check to look for signs of civilization: assist Rand: 1d20 + 21 ⇒ (11) + 21 = 32

![]() |

Alrighty then.
LR Rhon: 1d4 ⇒ 2
LR Rhon: 1d4 ⇒ 3...Done
LR Rand: 1d4 ⇒ 2
LR Rand: 1d4 ⇒ 4...Done
LR Mat: 1d4 ⇒ 1
LR Mat: 1d4 ⇒ 3

and then Manana change my entire spell list

![]() |

Come Morning...
Full Restoration on Earl, Naala and Myself.
LR Mat: 1d4 ⇒ 3...Done
LR 42: 1d4 ⇒ 3...Done
That should do it

![]() |

Well done, everyone. That was a crazy situation to find ourselves in. I'm glad at least someone was prepared. Obviously Alden and poor Naala would have just expired and become shadows without your help. :-S

FiddlersGreen |

Matamah's extensive reading and accumulated knowledge allows him to spot some key geographical features in the distance that give him a clue as to where you are. He is confident that you have landed yourselves on the Sankyoudai mountains in Western Minkai, about 250 miles North of Shinju-no-Ie. The nearest town would be Sakakabe where O-Sayumi usually lives, which also lies about 250 miles to the South.
Due to the terrain, it will take a very long time to get back. And now that the master of Shinju-no-Ie now knows that he has... 'visitors'... you worry that O-Sayumi might be in serious trouble if she is indeed in his hands. You will need to act quickly.
You rest for the evening, knowing that without restoration, you are ill-prepared to face the dangers that infest the wizard's home. It is now about 2 hours before dawn, and you will need to quickly decide what to do next.

![]() |

Itamar will cast Wind Walk we will fly at 60mph so four and half five hours each way
That's pretty quick eh
EDIT: I am going to have to make two trips
Once we are all together below Itamar casts Life Bubble on everyone 4 hrs. per person

FiddlersGreen |

If you do that, it will take a little over half a day to get you all back to Shinju-no-Ie. Will the first lot of you be waiting on the island or on the other side of the shore? And who will be in the first group?
