Earl is Large size with a 10 foot reach and should be able to at least try to strike at Bugbear #4.

Scoured Stars Map

Ah, that explains it. I didn't realise that Earl was large. My mistake. In that case, Earl hit BB1 twice, but he was also in the fear cones. 3 will saves from Earl please.

Rand, the other bugbears are flying, so you will need to wait for them to come to you. I've just resolved all your attacks against BB1. Rand pummels BB1 into the ground, and then stomps him a few more times for good measure.

Matamah nearly succumbs to the fear-inducing magic, but staves it off with a burst of magic. He keeps right on singing whilst buffing himself up. Itamar's whips at one of the women again, but this time the chain falls short of reaching her. Undeterred, Itamar casts another spell, this time aiming to stun them.

saves:
3d20 ⇒ (5, 6, 6) = 17

The women shriek at the sonic waves ripple through their bodies, but they do not seem too perturbed by it.

knowledge religion DC18:
These things are called manananggals. They are undead, and undead are immune to stunning. Won't let you take back the action though. It should have been clear from the picture and description that these things were undead. =p

And then like dark comets from the sky, the remaining 7 bugbears dive down towards 42 and Rand 'cos you can still charge when slowed, and they were all in range of at least one of you, though sometimes just barely.

attack and damage rolls:

BB1 attack roll: 1d20 + 17 + 2 - 1 - 3 ⇒ (11) + 17 + 2 - 1 - 3 = 26 miss

Even without Alden's aid, Rand has no trouble fending off the bugbears. 42 on the other other hand, appears to be cursed by the dice gods for wandering beyond the reach of the lucky hafling... and is stabbed once in the left arm, again in the right leg... and one right through the chest!!! 42 takes 24+30+80 damage from all the stabs! The 80 was from a confirmed crit. Umm...Itamar... do you want to use divine intervention to force a reroll of the crit? You will be 42's BFF if you do...

Yeah...you got all the high rolls and Rand got the low ones. =(

Might be a good idea to stick closer to Alden. XD

Also, this is why Jingasa of the Fortunate Soldier is my headgear of choice for almost all my characters... at higher levels, one crit from a x3 or x4 weapon is quite easily fatal...

Unfortunately, bless is also a morale bonus and does not stack with your aura, Rhon. Also unfortunate is that these are intelligent undead who can see you waiting with your axe.

Rhon prepares to strike as Earl panics and hustles into the ground. The party gets the very novel experience of hearing a large elemental cry "Eeeep!" in Terran. Unfortunately, Alden and Naala are also frightened off by the spell and run for the hills boathouse to the North.

The flying women cackle in delight as they see that their second attempt at splitting your party has been far more successful. They appear to consider their options for a moment before the 'woman' whose Itamar's chain had been attacking points at the cleric and screeches.

The first woman swoops down to slash at Itamar. Her claws dig into the clerics armor...and hold fast! Ok, the good news is that all the enemies are on the ground now. The bad news is that you're down to 4 men and one of those 4 is being tongued by 3 undead women in the worst possible way.

Rand, Matamah and Itamar are up. If you have big guns to bring out, it might be a good idea to not hold back. Oh and channel energy does not require a concentration check and does not provoke attacks of opportunity. Just saying.

Remembering the last time he fought these brutes, Rand takes a gambit and charges past all of them. 5 of them take stabs at Rand as he passes, only to receive kicks and punches in return. Furthermore, none of their spears find their mark! By the time Rand reaches BB5, however, the bugbears have realised what is going on, and he withholds his stab. Rand however is far from done. He pummels BB2 into the ground before giving his last punch to BB5.

Meanwhile, Matamah wraps Itamar in waves of magic that repel the undead women. Itmar takes the opportunity to channel a wave of positive energy. He also brings his chain down on the same woman once more, but once again the chain fails to strike its target.

42's eyes open as his body is flooded with positive energy, though he awakens to find himself on the ground and Rand's boot a little too close to his face for comfort.

Itamar's burst of healing energy does nothing for the women (you need to channel specifically to harm undead or to heal), but some the bugbears' wounds close as they too are covered in the healing energy. This includes BB2, whose eyes open at the same time as 42. They grin as they close in on Rand, determined to take him down like they once very nearly did before.

attack rolls:

BB1 charge attack roll: 1d20 + 17 - 1 + 2 - 3 ⇒ (6) + 17 - 1 + 2 - 3 = 21
damage roll: 1d8 + 13 + 9 ⇒ (2) + 13 + 9 = 24

BB2 takes a flying 5ft step back and picks up his spear, righting himself up at the same time.

BB3 attack roll: 1d20 + 17 - 3 ⇒ (19) + 17 - 3 = 33
damage roll: 1d8 + 13 + 9 ⇒ (8) + 13 + 9 = 30
BB3 attack roll: 1d20 + 17 - 3 - 5 ⇒ (12) + 17 - 3 - 5 = 21
damage roll: 1d8 + 13 + 9 ⇒ (3) + 13 + 9 = 25
5ft step back

B5 takes 5ft step to the side to get flank
BB5 attack roll: 1d20 + 17 - 3 - 1 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 17 - 3 - 1 + 2 = 18
damage roll: 1d8 + 13 + 9 ⇒ (5) + 13 + 9 = 27

BB6 flies around to the other side and waits for his ally to get into a flank before attacking.
BB6 readied attack roll: 1d20 + 17 - 3 ⇒ (10) + 17 - 3 = 24
damage roll: 1d8 + 13 + 9 ⇒ (4) + 13 + 9 = 26

BB7 charges and gives BB6 his flank.
BB7 attack roll: 1d20 + 17 - 3 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 17 - 3 + 2 + 2 = 19
damage roll: 1d8 + 13 + 9 ⇒ (1) + 13 + 9 = 23

BB8 also charges.
BB8 attack roll: 1d20 + 17 - 3 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 17 - 3 + 2 = 19
damage roll: 1d8 + 13 + 9 ⇒ (8) + 13 + 9 = 30

The bugbears try to coordinate their attacks, but only one of them is able to land a strike on Rand. It is just as well, for Rand is reminded that whilst these bugbears are not skilled at landing blows, their attacks hurt alot when they land! Take 30 damage from one hit by BB3.

42 please confirm your action. Rhon, you get to act too. Keep in mind that after you, those undead women will be acting...

Or you could just take a 5ft step and touch one of them since they're at ground level now. =)

Rhon steps over to the women and channels a surge of positive energy into the nearest one, who shrieks in pain as the healing energy ravages her body instead.

Tian:

"This one too! Take this one!"

With Itamar magically protected from their embrace, two of the women turn their affections to Rhon, each shuffling along slightly so they can all get in on the action.

attack rolls:

claw attack roll : 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (3) + 15 = 18
damage roll: 1d8 + 6 ⇒ (8) + 6 = 14
grab roll: 1d20 + 18 ⇒ (8) + 18 = 26

blood drain: 1d2 ⇒ 2

bite attack roll : 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (16) + 14 = 30
damage roll: 1d8 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 6 = 9

The first woman batters at Rhon with her claws and pointed teeth. Her bite and one of her claws simply bounce off the armor, but the other claw finds a gap in the armor and against all odds the woman is able to get a hold of Rhon in her embrace!

Tian:

"This one is hard to hit but easier to hold sisters! Just hold him down and suck his blood!"

more attack rolls:

grab roll: 1d20 + 18 ⇒ (15) + 18 = 33
blood drain: 1d2 ⇒ 1 slurp

grab roll: 1d20 + 18 ⇒ (14) + 18 = 32
blood drain: 1d2 ⇒ 2 sluuuurp

After the first woman finds herself struggling to strike through Rhon's armor, the next 2 women go straight for the embrace, and Rhon too finds himself smothered in very unwanted kisses. So that's 14 damage and 5 CON damage

attack reroll: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (15) + 15 = 30

Retcon: The first undead woman almost sinks her claws into Rhon, but a last-second burst of divine energy from Itamar repels her and prevents her from getting a hold on the paladin. Unfortunately, this still does not protect him the other advances of the other 2 women.

Rand pummels BB5 into the ground and tries to do the same to BB6, but he is not quite able to knock the second bugbear out just yet. 42 makes himself invisible and then gets to his feet, ready to get some payback.

Matamah frees Rhon from his undead harem as well, leaving them very upset and disappointed. Meanwhile, Itamar brings the chain down on one of the women, partially wrapping it around her.

The bugbears continue to close in on Rand, coordinating to take up flanking positions and stabbing at him from all sides.

42 strikes his target bugbear and saps some of its lifeforce for himself. Matamah decides that the women are too close for comfort and pulls away from them. Meanwhile, Itamar attempts to bring more hurt on the women.

Yep, we discussed this earlier, the women are undead and hence immune to stunning. But it's good damage.

Matamah bombards two of the undead women with a burst of sonic energy. The attack wracks their bodies but does nothing to stop the necromantic energies animating them. Meanwhile, Itamar attempts to use his chain again on one of the undead women, but this time he messes up and the undead woman manages to avoid being blinded.

On the other side of the battle, 42 slashes at the newly-arrived undead woman...only to find that his scimitar bounces right off! His spell still discharges against the women though, and he is able to confirm that the following spells are affecting the women.

spells:
None.

Meanwhile, the 2 standing bugbears continue to attempt to bring down Rand.

Neither is able to land a hit, but Rand notices that BB1, who had been knocked out earlier, is beginning to stir and regain consciousness!
