Not from me. :)

Azara gasps, surprised by the sudden roughness.
"Yes. Then so be it. A sailing trek it is." She unsheaths a scimitar made of a strange green glass, stares longingly into it, almost as if reminiscing, and then resheaths it. "The last time I served on a sailing vessel it was for the Royal Chelish Navy. Many years have come and gone since. Pirates were our preferred prey. I dare say I learned quite a bit about swordplay from dueling them."
Azara turns to Dalia, "You're excused. I've arranged travel from the Magnimaran Lodge back to Egorian."
Dalia nods towards the group, and warily makes her way back to the Hall's entrance.
No more questions.

"Too drunk to sail...I don't touch the stuff. Boats aren't my friends sober. I wouldn't want to spend a whole day drunk on a boat. But let's be off. My crossbow is ready to kill some giants."

GM Hmm |

"Ha! You'll get your sea legs in no time, Harsk! I'm sure you'll kill giants a-plenty for me!" Calisro escorts you to the docks. "I'm counting on all of you to take good care of my friends in Averaka!"
During the voyage, Grigorii composes many songs, Shel blesses you with her superior learning, and Harsk eventually manages to stop puking from the railing. All of you have a chance to exchange stories and learn more of each other. The fine weather holds, and you make good time to Averaka on the ship that Venture-Captain Calisro Benarry hired. Several half-orc longshoremen hail the vessel as it approaches the town's docks—most of which are crowded with fishing boats and more fearsome craft. As you disembark, several half-orcs working the docks call out to Grigorii in Orc. "Heh. Du ser en solid fyr. Velkommen til Averaka! Søger du at bosætte sig?"
_____________________________________
Meanwhile, the rest of you get approached by the lead longshoreman, a huge and well-tusked half-orc who has a clipboard in hand. He pulls some spectacles from his pocket, polishes them, and looks you over. "Good morn, ladies and..." he pauses, looks Harsk and Biter over, "er... dwarf. I'm Tusker McHiggins. What business do you have in Averaka? Beg my pardon, but you seem a rather diverse bunch."

GM Hmm |

"Calisro! Wonderful!" He breaks into a toothy grin, looking for someone behind you. "Where is she, that cunning sailor? Still back on the ship counting supplies, I'll warrant!"
Then his smile dies. "Wait. Did you say, 'sent'? D'you mean she's not with you?"

Grigorii returns the dock workers' greeting.
"Ak, jeg er ikke. Mit team og jeg passerer på vores vej til at undersøge nogle nyligt afsløret Thassilonian ruiner. Men, ville jeg ikke have noget imod at sidde ned for at få del i sang og historier."
To the longshoreman, "She is not with us. She had pressing business in the south, and sent us to do the Society's work. I trust this will not be a problem?"

"Pathfinders. Sko aldrig under samme seng to gange!" One of the dock workers, a cute half-orc elbows Grigorii, eyeing him up and down. "Sange og historier ... er du en Skjald så?"
Meanwhile, Tusker sighs, muttering under his breath. "Chosen emissaries? Hope you're tougher than you look."
Still, your affiliation with Calisro puts the longshoremen at ease, and they lead the group toward Averaka's meeting hall. Along the way, a baker comes out of her shop to approach you, flour still on her hands. "Where's Calisro? Tell that crazy Captain that I baked her favorite potato rolls for the council meeting, and they're still hot!"
Tusker spreads empty arms. "She's not coming this time, Tabi."
The baker's face falls. "But she promised to come!"
From the crowd you hear other loud grumbling and complaints that their favorite Pathfinder did not visit as she had promised.

"Ja, jeg er en skjald. Jeg inspirere mine allierede til store bedrifter af styrke og herlighed. Selvom jeg ikke novice med en stridsøkse, mig selv."
Grigorii turns to face the interested woman, standing a little straighter and subtly flexing as he reaches for his lute, "Vil du holder af at lytte til en sang, jeg har komponere? Friske ører ville give det det sidste touch den har brug for. Jeg er bange for mine kammerater 'har alle gået træ ..."

The the baker he says,"Would you mind if I tried one? I've been eating blood sausage and trail bread all journey. I would love to try some hot, local cuisine." *wink*
To the crowd, "Please, we have come in Calisro's stead. She sends her greetings and regrets for having to rush south to the Gloomspires. I, for one, would like to get to know each of you and hear your stories. But first, is the council meeting? My companions and I have business to attend to, and I know we..." he glances at the Baronesses, "are eager to begin our work."

"What a lovely place! Eh, Az?" Juniper elbows the ifrit.
Turning to Shel, she adds "Don't you just love exploring new cultures? Maybe when we are done with our mission we can stick around and try some of the local restaurants!"
"Grigorii, save a roll for me." Juniper laughs, not understanding the joke between her half-orc friend and the baker.
This may be the nicest place the Society has ever sent me. This oceanside climate is much more agreeable than that Mwangi jungle. I can see why Calisro likes to visit.

A man in the crowd snorts. "A diet of sausage, with so many pretty companions? Man, you need to learn better ways to pass time while sailing!"
The gathering crowd roars at the bawdy joke. Averaka's residents are diverse, representing the tastes of orc-blooded migrants from at least a dozen nations. Most are rowdy and brash, emboldened by living in a community that celebrates their heritage rather than fearing it. Several dozen humans and dwarves labor amicably alongside their green-skinned neighbors, but the crowd is overwhelmingly half-orc.
There had been several groups of half-orc children busily practicing their mathematics and reading outside the stout wooden longhouse across the street. Now thoroughly distracted, they run up and stare wide-eyed at all of you, especially Biter and the two halflings. One of them, a bold little boy, approaches Shel and Juniper. "Wow, your parents let you have great weapons!"
"Hush, Henrik! What will our guests think?' Tabi pulls little Henrik to her, and then gives Grigorii an impish smile. "Med disse udseende, kan du smage mine ruller, eller noget andet, du har lyst til!" She offers the hot rolls to the whole group. They smell wonderfully of butter and yeast and chunks of hot potato and onion. "Sorry, we get boisterous around here."

Kiku quietly nods and bows as the party meets so many new people. Having grown up in Magnimar, Kiku finds a familiar comfort in such a large crowd. However, being greeted with so much friendliness by so many people appears to have awed her.
She blushes at the "pretty companions" comment, drawing her kapenia shawl farther over her head.
"Um...I hope he doesn't mean me...."
She smiles and takes one of the offered hot rolls.
"Thank you so very much. These look delcious."

Juniper hands her quarterstaff—carved on one end into a dragon's talon clutching an orb—to the half-orc child, and draws one of her chimney brushes for her own defense. "En guard, Henrik!" She smiles and begins a mock combat with the boy, which culminates in her mock defeat.
Edit: I keep forgetting to change my alias before posting!

GM Hmm |

The crowd cheers on Henrik in the mock battle against Juniper. Many of those who had been looking grumpy at the absence of Calisro have lightened up a bit, especially after watching the mock battle and Juniper's heroic defeat.
"Eh, this has been fun," Tusker says, "but I need to usher these folk to the Longhouse. Council time!" Your escorts open the doors to admit you inside.
A warm, smoky haze permeates the broad meeting hall, where three half-orcs lean over a table covered in a map and painted wooden tokens. To the left stands a pensive woman in simple clothing with a book hanging from her belt and a leather satchel brimming with paintbrushes at her feet. To the right towers a man wearing a blue and white robe, smiling slightly and touching a butterfly-shaped amulet as he ponders the situation. In the center is a battle-hardened warrior who grips the table as she looms over the map.
Tusker announces, "The Pathfinders have arrived." All three look up with smiles on their faces, which then freeze suddenly as they see only you. "She's not coming," Tusker adds, helpfully.
Turning back to you, Tusker gestures at each of the Councillors. "Councilor Suota Iron-Tongue, Councilor Bravok, and Councilor Kalla Tusk-Breaker." With that, he takes his leave.
Bravok speaks up first, his face unreadable. "We'd heard we'd be getting a Pathfinder delegation, but where's Calisro? And who might each of you be?"
Don't worry, Juniper! We all forget that.

Juniper coughs and waves a hand in front of her face before scolding the council members, "You know...you wouldn't have so much smoke in here if you properly cleaned your flue." She walks over to the fireplace, unpins her oversized cloak and lays it out as an impromptu drop-cloth. "Are you getting enough draft across the top of your chimney? If the chimney isn't tall enough, the wind can't draw the smoke out, you know." The halfling begins arranging her chimney brooms on the drop-cloth. "We will need to put this fire out and let the flue cool before I can properly work on it, but we'll get you fixed up lickity-split."

(from when we were first entering the city)
Azara takes in the sights and sounds, looking somewhat lost as she cannot speak Orc, but still not as irritated as she was in Magnimar. This place isn't half bad. It could use a bit more refinement, but not everyone can live the noble's life. I was expecting to find half-clothed primitives throwing darts at each other to pass the time. I wonder what they use for slaves...
(inside the council members' tent)
Azara steps up to address the council as well, glaring slightly at the Halfling preparing to clean the chimney. Under her breath she hisses, "Ez, orain, Juniper, joateko negozio daukagu."
"Not, now, Juniper, we have business to attend to."
"Greetings, esteemed council members." she says in Common as she bows, "Please, forgive those of us who are not practiced in your local tongue... or traditions. I do hope that the messages we bring are regarded with equal weight and importance, regardless of what language they are spoken in."
She pauses to make eye contact with and nod at each member before continuing. "It is true, we represent the Pathfinder Society, and it is true, the esteemed Venture Captain was unable to make the trek with us. Unable, though, and not unwanting. She spoke rather highly of your settlement and your people..."
Her tone and posture take on a slightly less "soft" quality, "....a people, we've heard, that have had a recent opportunity to strike at their longtime foes. How goes the campaign against the Giants?"

Councilor Suota Iron-Tongue kneels down and talks to Juniper with a smile. "Egun Gure flue laguntza erabil daiteke, benetan. Bat dut bataila mapan hobeto ikusi ahal izan. Litzateke zure garbiketa luze?"
Meanwhile, with the matter of the missing Venture Captain explained, Councilor Kalla gets down to business. “We invited Benarry to join us in our attack on the giants. Chief Gorgnak has lost control of some of his tribe to another giant, and he is spending so much attention trying to reclaim command that he has left himself undefended here and here.” Councilor Kalla fiercely prods the table, causing several of the nearby tokens to bounce. “In the meantime, several of his other giants have driven off our scouts to the west and diverted or dammed the Little Thunder. It's our main source of fresh water, but our cisterns are still full enough that I'm not worried."
“That's where you come in. While I lead our forces around the north, you can check the river and see what mischief the giants have caused at the river. Our attack should prevent any reinforcements from arriving, so once you're done at the river, you should meet minimal opposition in exploring the ruins. Familiarize yourself with our plan, and we shall make ready to set out at dusk.” Councilor Iron-Tongue loudly clears her throat, and Kalla scowls for a moment before adding, “The scout who reported the ruins never returned. He sent a messenger bird back to us with the general location, but we have not heard from him since. Hagal is cunning, but deep in hostile territory.”
The councilors invite the you to study their battle plan and make your own preparations, but by looking at the map* [Slide One], it's apparent that the you can expect almost no direct aid from the half-orcs; nearly all available forces are dedicated to the northern assault or guarding Averaka, leaving the you almost alone in reclaiming the western pass.
*I have no minis for actual troop placement yet, but now you can actually see the map linked in my header. Yay for small steps!
_________________________________________________________________
At this War Council, you have an opportunity to impress or influence the various councillors and other dignitaries.
- We'll be breaking this council into three phases.
- During any given phase you may either attempt to impress a councillor or improve the battle plan.
- During this council, each PC may each succeed on any given skill only ONCE. Multiple PCs can attempt the same skill.
- Each Councillor and the Battle Plan have specific skills that you can try. Check out the list for each below.
- Have a little fun roleplaying this one!
_________________________________________________________________
RELEVANT SKILL CHECKS
- Improve the Battle Plan: Knowledge (geography) or Profession (soldier); if you are proficient in at least one martial weapon you may instead use 1d20 + BAB + (Int or Wis modifier); bonuses on attack rolls against giants may be added to this as well, as may favored terrain (mountain).
- Impressing Councilor Kalla Tusk-Breaker: Kalla leads the town gaurds and oversees the patrols around Averaka. You can match her tough demeanor with Intimidate, demonstrate knowledge of outdoor skills with Survival, or judge which parts of the plan worry her most and address them with Sense Motive.
- Impressing Councilor Bravok: Bravok serves as Averaka's chief ambassador, traveling throughout the Inner Sea region to spread the word of Averaka and attract more half-orc settlers to the island. Bravok also manages the town's largest temple, devoted to Desna. Tactful overtures (Diplomacy) and confident speeches (Perform: oratory) resonate well with his style. He also respects those who connect on a religious level (Knowledge: religion).
- Impressing Councilor Suota Iron-Tongue: Suota maintains Averaka's lore and society, serving as a teacher for children, artists, and craftspeople alike. She promotes curiosity and education. Those learned in cultural lore (Knowledge: local) and classical education (Knowledge: history) earn her respect, as do capable wordsmiths and educators (Linguistics).
Everyone adds +1 to their checks.
Grigorii gets to add an additional +4. (It's those cute little tusks.)
-- BEGIN PHASE ONE --

![]() |

Phase 1
"I have heard that you are well-traveled, Councilor Bravok. I have been on a pilgrimage of my own for some time, trying to help everyone that I can."
She lowers her head, placing a hand on her heart. Her voice becomes quiet.
"And...looking for someone along the way."
She looks up at Bravok once more.
"Please, I would be honored if you would tell me of what you have seen, as well as how you practice your faith here. I, too,--" she produces an ofuda dedicated to Desna from her pack "--look to Desna for guidance. Dreams are very important to me."
She blushes as she breaks her gaze with Bravok and her voice quiets again.
"And one dream in particular."
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 14 + 1 ⇒ (17) + 14 + 1 = 32

![]() |

Phase One: Impress Councilor Kalla Tusk-Breaker
Grigorii voice slowly builds with excitement until it nears a shout,"Your warriors are fierce and strong. Under your command they will surely strike fear into the hearts of Gorgnak and all the giants. Would that I could ride with you, to inspire the troops and focus their minds with the fury of battle." he finishes with his fist in the air, tusks gleaming.
Grigorii settles back down and examines the battle plan once more.
"No matter. My group is fierce and will fight with the heart, courage," he glances skeptically towards Juniper before continuing, "...and brains worthy of a heroic song. We will do our part for the success of this plan."
Intimidate: 1d20 + 17 + 1 + 4 ⇒ (14) + 17 + 1 + 4 = 36
In the next two phases, I plan to use Sense Motive to impress Kalla Tusk-Breaker further. Then Knowledge(local) to impress Suota Iron-Tongue

![]() |

"Not long at all, Councilor Suota." Juniper smiles excitedly.
Phase 1
@GM: If she can sweep the chimney as a means of Impressing Suota Iron-Tongue, then I will use that to Aid Another someone else (most likely Shel) on their roll. This would be a +4 bonus to their roll because of the Helpful trait.
Otherwise, my best contributions this phase would probably be to aid Aid Another for anyone who wants to Improve the Battle Plan (again, it would give a +4 because of the Helpful trait).
In future phases, I might plan on using Diplomacy to Impress Councilor Bravok.
Edit: Never mind. It looks like neither action would be successful anyway. :) But I would like to know if I can sweep the chimney in future phases to impress Souta. Thanks. :D

GM Hmm |

Juniper, you can try until you succeed, or you an use a different skill.

![]() |

Phase 1: Improve the Battle Plan
"Hhmm hmm, come now, Giants can't possibly be good tacticians. Or at least, not any more organized than pirates. I've had a great deal of experience dealing with fugitives and lawless brutes, and the only thing different here is that these harriers have more meat on their bones. If we place troops here, here, and here... They won't know what to expect!"
Base Attack Bonus: 1d20 + 8 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 8 + 1 + 1 = 14

Phase 1--Impressing Kalla Tusk-Breaker
Yojimbo looks to Kiku, miming coins in his hands. She gulps and nods.
He walks over to the map of patrol routes.
Survival: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (3) + 9 = 12
He points out a path that goes by a large ovoid shape, then back again.
"Your patrols are inefficient, you are having double-back when they could be zig-zagging the whole along here, whatever this is--"
He pauses as he finally catches sight of the map legend.
"Ah. It's a lake. Nevermind."
He walks back to his original place, catching Kiku's eye along the way.
"No charge."
12 doesnt sound good, so I tried to run with that

![]() |

Phase 1--Impressing Councilor Bravok
"Learned Bravok, just as the Tender of Dreams helped defeat Rovagug, I can similarly see how this plan will allow your just people to defeat this scourge of Giants. Perhaps Desna's blessings would go a long way to ensuring that victory. We will throw in our sword arms to see this evil defeated."
Diplomacy 1d20 + 16 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 16 + 1 = 21

GM Hmm |

Not a success, so you can reroll diplomacy later in another phase.

![]() |

Your plan could use a few things...
BAB+wis+FT bonus+giants bonus: 1d20 + 20 ⇒ (11) + 20 = 31
2nd roll
know geography: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (10) + 10 = 20

GM Hmm |

You only get one roll per phase, Harsk. But that first one was a success!
Councilor Bravok nods at Kiku. "It's rare to find such wisdom in one so young." Kiku wows Councilor Bravok with her spiriitual acumen.
Councillor Kalla punches Grigorii's shoulder. "Ho! You're a fierce one. But it's a shame to see all of you battling over there alone. Let me think on this." Grigorii's fierceness impresses Councilor Kalla.
Harsk leans over the battle map, and uses his knowledge of fighting giants to great tactical advantage.
Shel feels that she barely missed connecting with Bravok. If only she'd taken a little more time with her arguments! The rest of you feel that you might have been slightly off your game, and vow to do better as you take a deep breath (or ten?) and go to face the Councillors again. But before that happens...
Daylight spills in through the main door as an elven woman [Slide Three] slips into the building. Despite wearing loose garments better suited for desert travel, she seems unperturbed by the cold. A gleaming holy symbol hangs from her waist.
“Ah, Dhiara,” declares Councilor Bravok. “We were not expecting you for several hours. How did you—“
“I ran,” the elf states matter-of-factly. “These islands have an austere beauty, but with giants on the move, there was no time for dawdling. Have I arrived in time to assist?”
“Of course,” Bravok replies. “Pathfinders, may I introduce Dhiara, paragon of Tar Kuata and most recently Scourge of Tanglebriar. She arrived unexpectedly with the intention of aiding our battle, and we are proud to have her.”
The elf momentarily scowls. “Titles encourage complacency by dwelling on the past, dear Bravok. We must prepare for the trials ahead."
______________________________________
To the list of people you can impress, please add:
- Impressing Dhiara: She responds well to calm, measured arguments (Diplomacy), especially those that relate to her dedication to Irori (Knowledge: religion). She is a highly accomplished monk who trained in Osirion and has spent the past several decades traveling the world, combating evil, and testing her skills against the Inner Sea region's villains. As a result, she respects those who are well traveled and have learned lessons from the places they have seen (Knowledge:geography).

You guys can take 10 on these checks, but as a GM I'm going to hint... Use your best skills first. Some of the DCs are challenging. Knock these out of the park!
-- BEGIN PHASE TWO (of THREE) --

Taking a few moments before trying with Bravok, Shel focuses on the newcomer to the group. 'Dhiara, it's a pleasure to meet you. We are from the Society here to help the battle against the Giants. I'd like to use Perform(sing) to compose a song about my first experience in Averaka. If that doesn't apply, I'll use Know(local) instead.
Stepping away from Counciler Tusk-Breaker and the battle plan, Grigorii approaches Councilor Suota Iron-Tongue.
"Councilor Iron-Tongue, I have been most impressed with even my brief exposure to this city. It is alive with experiences -- food, song, and well, life. These people have made this place their home, and I know you had no small part in that. I have been composing a song about our arrival, would you care to hear it?"
Perform(sing): 1d20 + 14 + 1 + 4 ⇒ (16) + 14 + 1 + 4 = 35

Impressing Councilor Bravok: 32, 21, 29,
Impressing Councilor Suota Iron-Tongue: 35 (or 27),
Impressing Dhiara: 26,
The room gets a tad warmer as Azara's temper begins to get the better of her. She turns to Kalla.
"If I were leading the offensive, I would target the largest brute on the front line first. Giants respect girth, and strength, so such a strike would be seen by all. And then I would cut... and cut... and cut... using the brute's hide as an advertisement that the bigger you are... the more you can bleed."

Shel makes a very reasoned and diplomatic approach to Dhiara who nods. "A pleasure to meet you as well. I've been curious about your Pathfinder Society for some time."
The whole room rocks to Grigorii's song. Irontoungue has tears in her eyes as she claps to his performance. "You must sing that later, to inspire the troops!"
Bravok smiles down at Juniper. "I am honored that you come to us in our hour of need, little one. I hadn't thought about having halflings here in Averaka before, but you are a genial people."
Kalla warms to Azara. "I see you have fire in you!"
Four successes!

Phase 2: Impressing Dhiara
Kiku bows to Dhiara as she enters.
"You are a worshipper of Irori, the Master of Masters? I am afraid that I have not spent as much time studying his faith as I would like. I would be happy to learn more, if you would be willing to share."
She turns her head away, ashamed that she was not diligent enough to have studied more.
