Kat C'ys |
Kat makes a flamboyant victory pose once on the other side just for giggles and to subconsciously keep morale up. After a deep, sweeping bow to the spectators on the other side of pit she turns and carefully inspects her side of room looking for anything out of place as well as a way to help the others get across.
Perception: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (3) + 8 = 11
Isador Kane |
Well done Kat!
Isador looks to the rest of the party
Lets hope there is a hidden bridge of some sort, I am pretty sure that most us will not be able to duplicate Kats performance but, before we attempt to cross, who is going to carry which items from the bag?
I will not be able to carry all of it and keep up with everyone.
Havelockk |
my response to Kate before her Olympic like feat of crossing the water
Kat..I am a studied practitioner of the Arcane so the scrolls will be very useful to me as I expand my knowledge and abilities...when we have the proper conditions, I will scrub them in to my spell book
I watch in as the blood haired woman leaps over the water, a grin in my face as she does it with relative ease. I carefully place the scroll into the large goatskin satchel on my furca, insuring it is sealed properly fro the elements.
Let me have a look of each of these wands...I do have some skill in the use of such devices
Use Magical Device: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8
Use Magical Device: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 12
i pick up each wand....rolling and rotating each one in my hands, examining each one..insure that when I do, neither of them are pointed at anyone in the party, or myself
Caoilte |
Caoilte begins observing the way they came, then turns to the party and snorts. Hey folks, keep in mind, that stuff ain't ours. I say use it if we need it but that half-nutty halfling playing with that minotaur might want that junk back.
GM Brew |
Kat accentuates her landing with a bow and fades into the darkness ahead. She tells the party that the cavern opens up into a larger chamber not far ahead. She sees not threats in her immediate facility.
Havelock flicks each of the wands a few times in an attempt to activate each item. He is unable as to activate either wand.
Note: In PFS there are rules regarding acquiring magic items. While you are able to use items you find in game during the session, they are not added to your inventory once the session is complete. Rather, the item is unlocked for you and is added to your character's available items via a chronicle sheet that you will get after the session, As for adding the spells, you may be able to do that as an exception to the rule (FAQs specifically allow a caster to do this., but there is a cost in gold associated with the scribing as well as time needed to actually study and write the spell. The spell would need to be on the spell list for your class and you would also need to succeed on a spellcraft check. Copying a spell in this fashion will take at least 2 hours if spell is first level.
Kat is now successfully across the pit o water. The rest of the party now formulates a way across.
GM Brew |
Kat finds a stalactite that she could use to secure the rope. Caoilte is able to secure the other end, so there is now a makeshift rope bridge spanning the pit.
The party, after some preventive shedding of armor and heavy items, is able to successfully cross the bridge. The crossing, other than being wet and uncomfortable, is otherwise uneventful.
After crossing the pit, the party quickly re-dons their armor and equipment. The party forms up, with Kat scouting ahead hidden ins shadows.
The tunnels continue on, leading deeper beneath the Kortos Mounts until they eventually open into a large cavern. What must have once been beautifully carved reliefs and inscriptions have since weathered heavily, their features dulled and softened to the point that it is hard to distinguish what each once depicted. A wide tunnel exits the cavern on its far side, and blue-burning torches line the passageway’s walls.
Map is updated with new system. I invited each of you, so hopefully you can all see it. Let me know if there are any problems.
Havelockk |
Caoilte, I do not disagree that this is all owned still by our halfling mentor, but knowing what this stuff is, and if it can aid us in a crunch I think is responsible.
I looked and nodded to Caoilte as I spoke, before looking at the pit when a idea crossed my mind
Kat, can you see if there any footprints, on the other side of the pit or some mechanical or physical means for us to cross? If not, I have a sneaky suspicion that there may be a underwater tunnel or passage that may lead to where we need to go, to get to the other side. WE should act quickly, before we are discovered
Eloriand Miller |
_
The map is not working for me. I have not been able to find the invite yet.
Havelockk |
I can not see the map either and I just registered for a white board account. If this is a better tool I am all for it. I am sure there is a step or linkage I am missing.
Kat C'ys |
Taking the scout's position ahead of the group, Kat works methodically as quickly and as silently as possible. Eyes and ears sweep and keep alert for anything out of the ordinary, sounds of approach or that they will be approaching someone or something and, of course, any thing that might be considered a treasure or trinket. She does not keep to a straight line but searches all corners and crevices of the cavern that does not lead into another cave or tunnel, it would not do well to get flanked with their pants down because she was in too large of a hurry.
Along the way she stops to admire and inspect the carvings and inscriptions and tries to see if she can decipher any of them. Of course, she also runs her fingers along the edges lightly, seeing if they might not be as secure as they appear.
Eloriand Miller |
_
Eloriand will backup Kat. High stealth, tracking and perception should help in that area.
Isador Kane |
Isador tries to decipher the paintings and glyphs
hmm... I wonder who made these drawings
Perception: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5
Knowledge: 1d20 ⇒ 8
It is so hard to see anything.. Havelockk, can you make your light brighter?
Havelockk |
I can not make it brighter, but I can cast it many times in a day on a object or different object to assist us with a ample supply of light. As long as I live, we will not wander in the dark, unless we choose to do so.
GM Brew |
Kat examines the various paintings along the walls here. Though similar to the previous petroglyphs, these are much more elaborate. At least they were as most of the reliefs are worn and faded beyond recognition. Of the many intricate depictions, only four bear enough form so that they may be interpreted.
Kat, make a linguistics check. Everyone else, make a Perception check. Also, please let me know if you are having trouble with the map.
Caoilte |
Caoilte advances with the group, his shield and axe in hand appearing more for ease of carry rather than expecting trouble. So, what do you suppose makes these torches burn blue?
with Eloriand and Kat forward I assume I'm third in marching order.
Kat C'ys |
She murmurs mostly to herself as she should be out of most of her companions' hearing range, I was wondering that myself.
Kat then turns her attention back to the four petroglyphs in the best condition and tried to match the symbols with anything in her long memory.
Linguistics: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (4) + 7 = 11
Isador Kane |
Isador takes his place at the end of the party.
Caoilte, the torches are probably blue due to magic... be wary of breathing in the fumes. he grins slightly
He then wanders over to the paintings that Kat was studying.
hmm.. These are clearer than the others
He runs his fingers along the cave wall surface and then he scans the rest of the cavern.
Perception: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (9) + 4 = 13
Eloriand Miller |
_
Isador, do you have time to record these glyphs on your paper? as Eloriand wonders where he put his own paper and writing device.
Perception: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4
Havelockk |
I look very carefully at the images', wondering if my speaking abilities on various languages to include Common, Draconic, Orcish, Elven, or Celestrial might lend a clue due to the broad variance in language and structure
Perception: 1d20 ⇒ 1
Linguistics: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (10) + 4 = 14
Kat C'ys |
Trade you linguistic rolls...
Kat chuckles softly at Caoilte's hesitation. Do not feel the need to hold back just because it might 'burn my delicate ears'. There is not much that I have neither seen nor heard and do not offend easily.
Besides, she grins, I may learn some new insults to hurl.
Just in case I get a perception check as well since my linguistics check was utter poop...
Perception: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (6) + 8 = 14
Caoilte |
I look very carefully at the images', wondering if my speaking abilities on various languages to include Common, Draconic, Orcish, Elven, or Celestrial might lend a clue due to the broad variance in language and structure
[dice=Perception]1d20
[dice=Linguistics] 1d20 + 4
The glyph hops off the wall hits Havelockk on the nose and hops back on the wall. Havelockk doesn't notice.
Isador Kane |
Isador nods toward Eloriand
that's not a bad idea Eloriand... do we have time to wait?
He quickly produces his parchment and pen before starting to sketch the glyphs and other geometric patterns.
Upon hearing Kat's response to Caoilte, Isador glances up from his sketch.
You know Kat.. you are turning out to be quite the traveling companion. I think this is going to be quite fun.
Caoilte |
Caoilte, scans the party then turns his back while muttering. I gotta get a new line of work. First, I link up with a company of mercenaries who were afraid to fight, now I'm stuck with a group of librarians speaking louder You kids enjoy tracing them stick figures, I'm just going to go over here and keep a look down the hall. The hall in the cave. The cave with fishfaces inside and a minotaur outside. He finishes with arms spread and rolling his eyes.
Pauses Hey look I found a crack, a crack with a hole in it. pointing to his backside Come and trace this.
Isador Kane |
Isador looks up from his sketch and laughs at Caoilte's joke.
You know Caoilte, when we first got to the tavern, Janira was a little worried about you... she thought that you might not be able to tell your arse from a hole in the ground... it seems you have proved her wrong
He winks before returning to his sketch
Eloriand Miller |
_
Eloriand smirks at his crude companion's remark.
GM Brew |
The party takes a few moments to examine the paintings on the walls in the cavern. Each member, save for Caoilte, goes over each of the four reliefs. Havelock asks several times where the paintings are located, then pretends to be able to distinguish them from the rocks as the rest of the party attempts to decipher their meaning. Kat, with nothing much more than a hunch, can tell the paintings have some significance, but the party is unable to decode their meaning at this time.
After about 10 minutes, Caoilte, standing watch up to this point, finally reaches the end of his patience. The looming cavern and smooth sailing thus far has his warrior's instincts on edge. He prompts the party to move on which the begrudgingly do.
The soft light of the surrounding fungus mixes with the flickering glow of the nearby torches to reveal a grand chamber. A large pool of water along the chamber’s southern edge reflects the blue and green radiance to illuminate the massive stalactites that cling to the ceiling overhead. Two other tunnels branch off from this area, leading to the east and west.
Rising up from the pool is a column of rock with steeply sloped sides and a flat top, as if someone had sawn off the top of a massive stalagmite. A miniature city carved from this same stone occupies nearly the entire surface. Tiny trinkets such as ancient coins, polished semiprecious stones, and ornately braided loops of string are scattered throughout the diorama, and pale cave frogs clamber atop it. The smooth cavern floor is covered in gravel and pebbles along the edge of the pool, and several foot-long centipedes prowl among the gravel in their search for prey.
Kneeling in the water is a lone gillman with his head bowed, eyes closed, appearing to be in deep meditation of prayer. He does not appear to notice the party as they approach the pool.
I have moved the tokens on the map to reflect your new positions. The white block to the south of the gillman represents the mini city described above. Unless otherwise specified, all maps are orientated with north being at the top of the map. Please let me know if anyone is having trouble viewing the map. Also, linguistics is a trained only skill, meaning you have to have at least 1 rank to attempt a check, just FYI.
Kat C'ys |
Kat drops as far into stealth as she can and slowly approaches the lone gillman after attempting to make sure nothing was going to jump out from a crack (especially Caolite's), trying to read his body language and the area around him for clues to both what he is doing as well as if he will be initially hostile. She also keeps wary for anything else that might be of interest or cause issues for her companions behind her.
While still just a hunch, she feels fairly certain that the still unknown cloak, petroglyphs from the reliefs that Isador copied and the miniature city were all connected. But then again it was like asking what a scarab beetle always rolled around.
Perception: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (18) + 8 = 26
Eloriand Miller |

Eloriand suspiciously switches his gaze between the Gillman, the centipedes and the flickering shadows all about the chamber.
Perception: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9
These dice are worse than my real dice
Caoilte |
Caoilte lowers his shield and while holding his axe (there's no scabard for those things) he keeps it low and unthreatening hand on the head holding it like a cane with the butt of the haft on the ground.
Hey folks, remember, we're in this guys house. If we have to knock him around then let's make sure that's his choice, not ours.
I'm scanning the room looking for other entrances/exits into the cavern.
perception: 1d20 ⇒ 8
GM Brew |
Kat C'ys |
Kat returns as quietly as possible to her companions and softly relays everything she was able to notice, making sure to point out the similarities to the drawings and still-unknown cloak.
Once she has given her report she returns to the shadows, staying just outside the light cast by Havelockk's spell and keeping them and their subsequent conversation within her hearing and vision.
Eloriand Miller |
_
Quietly, in response to Kat's update, Maybe someone should wear the robe and approach the Gillman to see if the Gillman will talk. It should probably be a human since they share the most in common as far as appearances go. Any volunteers Isador?
Isador Kane |
Isador watches the centipedes cautiously...
Whispering to the others watch out for the centipedes, I once traveled with a guy who got bit by one and his arm swelled up and burst open like a ripe melon.
Upon hearing Kat's report and Eloriand's request, Isador takes the cloak and drapes it about his shoulders.
I will attempt to approach from the side so his gaze will be away from the party. Lets see if he is willing to talk to me.
Isador then attempts to use his stealth to gain a position away from the party but where he can keep an eye on the meditating Gillman.
Stealth: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (2) + 8 = 10
Once in position, he will inspect the area for signs of traps or guards around the Gillman.
Perception: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (14) + 4 = 18
Kat C'ys |
Kat silently wishes him luck then returns to where the gillman meditates, moving with a soft step and partway flanking Isador she keeps to the deepest pools of shadows and positions herself where she can see and hear what will unfold.
Stealth: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (14) + 8 = 22
Perception: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (13) + 8 = 21
Linguistics: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (12) + 7 = 19
Sense Motive: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (8) + 6 = 14
Why couldn't I have rolled that for linguistics last time?
Caoilte |
Caoilte observes the two stealthy characters and continues to look around the dimly lit room. He begins to think it odd that the party's not quite silent approach hasn't caused more of a reaction.
This is awkward. He whispers to those closest to him. We made enough racket coming in here that we shouldn't be able to sneak up on this fella. He's either deaf or he means us no harm. That's what I'm thinking, anyway.
Havelockk |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |
oh....well....I guess that makes me the diplomat , because we all know nothing works diplomacy like the pointy end of a sword with followed up with a bit of the arcane. Well I will give it a shot
I walk forward cautiously to the bent over gill and I get to about 10 feet from him, I stop, presenting what I hope is a pleasant smile on my face as I remove my helmet and cradle it under my left arm, allowing my right hand to still be free in order to draw my blade or even launch a spell if need be. I then address the being politely, first using the common tongue and then using Celestrial, Elven, and Draconic in that order if I do not get a response.
Pax Deorum....peace of the the gods be upon you and I apologize for such an appearance as we are, but we did run into a particular savage beast which has forced us to seek shelter here.
I look on at the gillman while also being aware as possible of where the rather large centipedes are at...sidestepping them if possible...acknowledging Isador's comments and deliberately not looking at where my fellow compatriots are at, lest I give away their movements if the amphibious being makes the unfortunate, for him, decision that I could best be whale food for his pet Orca. Thankfully my father was a architect and not a fisherman or whaler
GM Brew |
Havelock approaches the gillman and announces his presence. The kneeling humanoid does not react to Havelock's presence or words, his eyes remaining closed, a serene smile upon his face. Havelock looks around at the party for a moment before taking a few more cautious steps toward the gillman. As Havelock steps to the edge of the pool, his boot dips into the water, causing a ripple that travels to the gillman. The gillman's eyes open abruptly and he looks up at Havelock.
The gillman gives Havelock a polite nod, as one would expect from a stranger at a market or theater. The dark haired humanoid then looks at Caoilte then to Isador. He does not seem angered or insulted by the party's presence and does not seem to be threatened. Caoilte notices the gillman's eyes go just a shade wide and stare at the cloak draped around Isador for a long moment, clearly taking an interest in the garment.
He looks politely back at Havelock and smiles.
Havelock: 1d20 ⇒ 2
Isador: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (8) + 5 = 13
Caoilte: 1d20 ⇒ 20
Eloriand: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (13) + 1 = 14
Havelockk |
pardon the intrusion, but we came here seeking shelter...and the garnet my friend has we found in the pool of water that we crossed...is it yours?
Caoilte |
The gillman thinks "Pffffft! That idiot has wrapped himself up in the minotaur's loincloth."
Caoilte lifts his sheild to cover his mouth. Pssssssst! Hey Izzy, you catch that? He's a bit surprised to see you in that get up.
I assume widened eyes suggested being surprised. If not, and my roll allows to correctly interpret the expression then I still attempt to communicate with Isador but with the appropriate message.
Isador Kane |
Isador glances back toward Caoilte with a slight look of confusion but then turns back to watch the interaction between the Gillman and Havelockk.
He intently watches the Gillman for any changes in posture or facial expression in an attempt to determine his true disposition.
Sense Motive: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (20) + 5 = 25
Perception: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (12) + 4 = 16
After hearing Caoilte's warning, Isador slowly pulls the cloak around himself to conceal his body. He then slowly moves his hand to his belt where his dagger is fastened.
