Cirri Merryweather |
"Man, I hate undead. They're so icky. And they eat your soul. Well, some of them. The others..." Cirri shudders and peers into the next room.
Perception: 1d20 ⇒ 1 She's not really looking, though.
Orophin Telemnarn |
Seeing nobody else wanting to be the first into the next room, Orophin carefully advances into it himself. He heads for hte middle, so he can look down the passageway without being too close to it.
DM Kludde |
Cirri peers through the door, and sees a cathedral-like hall that has a vaulted ceiling supported by eight square pillars. Dominating the middle of the hall is a huge mound of undulating gray-green flesh covered with weeping scarlet boils. The entire mass stinks of a weeks-old corpse.
There are six grotesque creatures, humanoid but distorted, seemingly made out of rotten flesh but worse, feeding on the mound. They don't seem to notice Cirri yet.
Orophin Telemnarn |
"Amazing. In death it clings to life, but that is the way of the world. If we can get closer, I can try and return life forces to their natural balance." says Orophin
He looks closer into the room.
"I'd probably need to be between that second row of pillars to be able to effect most of that mound of flesh, and it may take some time..."
Orophin turns from the scene for a moment to examine the room behind him.
On the map, many of the rooms have little triangular indentations. What is in these? Statues?
Seline Spiritbound |
Seline whispers "What should we expect from these creatures? Will they carry diseases or other foul abilities? If not, I will be your distraction while you get into position." She smiles cruelly, looking forward to carnage.
Cirri Merryweather |
"Hey Orophin? Could you do something about this leech bite before I go in?" Cirri points to the underside of her arm. "I'll gladly take point after that. Or, I guess Seline and I can take point."
Kerastes |
Kerastes looks up from his notebook and approaches Cirri
"Here, let me take care of that, we will save Orophin's healing for when we are all wounded"
CLW Wand: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 = 9
Kerastes goes back to mapping the rooms and making notes about the leeches and the hag face trap. When he is ready he stows his notebook, grabs his longspear and asks
"I can infuse everyone with Abadar's blessing before we go in, just say when. It lasts just a minute"
Casts bless when everyone is ready
Cirri Merryweather |
"Thanks Kerastes! You're the best...We should compare notes after this, by the way. Maybe there's something I missed when I tried to eat you, or when the leech tried to- we'll talk later!"
Cirri, healed, heads up to the door alongside Seline. "Super Size Cirri only lasts for another minute or so, so let's strike while the iron's hot! Right Seline?"
Scare Crow |
Scare peeks into the room to get a look at the undead.

The phantom girl moves over to the door, ready to attack with the others.
DM Kludde |
The feeding creatures haven't noticed any movement so far. The party could easily surprise the lot of them.
There are indeed two types: there's four ghouls in the room, an two festrogs. Both are disease-carrying, flesh-eating undead. You can ask for two properties of each of them
You can surprise the monsters and gain initiative on them, because they are so distracted feeding. Feel free to make a regular round's move, and an extra standard action for the surprise round.

Oh yeah, Enlarge Person gives me a 10x10 space. Also, that's Orophin's icon.
"Hey Scare do you think I could freeze them? Are they immune to extreme cold?" Cirri heads in and positions herself right in front of one of the- whatever they are.
Regular round is movement
Surprise round: Cirri spends a swift action to burn an Arcane Pool point to enhance her staff, then two handed strike the nearest undead.

Seline will move around into the room out of the way of big 'ol Cirri, then charge the nearest undead creature. Double move, then Standard to charge

damage: 1d6 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7
Next time she hits the same undead, she will gain +1 attack and +2 damage on all attacks.
DM Kludde |
I've put everyone huddled around the entrance to the room, except for those that have moved. I've moved Kerastes inside (please adjust if you don't want that)
Kerastes blesses the party in their task to rid this hall of undead. Cirri makes ample use of that by smacking one of the ghouls over the head. The creature lets out an chilling scream as it turns around and spots the magus. Seline takes care of the next creature smacking it with a fist of fury.

The positive energy emitted by Orophin creates an awful havoc. One of the festrogs, and a ghoul simply burn away in the light, and Orophin could swear he heard the fleshy mass they are feeding on scream in agony at the wave of energy washed over it.

Kerastes skewers the last festrog on his spear, while Orophin's channeling burns away another ghoul, and send out another empathic wave of pain from the fleshy mass. With a hit from the staff, Cirri takes out the last ghoul.

DM Kludde |
Kerastes slashes at the polyp, and cuts out three chunks of tumorous meat. The growth is immobile, but does seem to regenerate before his eyes.
Since there is no threat, and you have plenty of time, you'll eventually be able to destroy the thing, though it requires a lot of effort.
Cirri Merryweather |
@Ray of Frost: I'm using Spell Combat, which lets you cast any standard action spell and take your full-round attack. Spellstrike is a different ability at level 2 that requires melee touch spells.
"Th-that wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. Anyone knows what's the deal with this? Can we pour holy water on it?"
Untrained Knowledge (Religion): 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (10) + 3 = 13
Not wanting to waste her remaining supersized time poking goo with her staff, Cirri takes a quick look around for anything they missed.
Perception: 1d20 ⇒ 3
DM Kludde |
Ah, my confusion then. I was indeed confused with the spell strike.
Cirri finds that the western wall carries a series of scratch marks, though she doesn't quite find what they indicate.
Killing the big flesh tree will take a long time. It will be rather boring to roll out every attack, so if your intent is to kill it, we can assume that after, say, twenty minutes of dedicated hacking you'll be able to bring it down.
Cirri Merryweather |
"Anyone knows what these claw marks mean? If the ghouls were eating that pile of..ew. Why would they scratch this wall?"
Cirri stares at the wall, confused.
"Question for the magic users: Is it time for a rest, or are you still good to go for a bit longer? If we're gonna rest, I guess we can take time to destroy that thing, but otherwise I think we should get moving and try to find the source of all of this."
Kerastes |
"I suggest to kill this thing first. We do not know what it exactly does, but I do not trust it. After that we can explore behind that door, although that is probably down to the next level."
Orophin Telemnarn |
Orophin looks uncertain. "It doesn't like life energy, but.. I suggest we continue inwards further. If we have time on the way out we can deal with this flesh - if indeed we decide it needs dealing with.
He shudders as he looks at it again. "I hate to cause anything pain..."
He then looks at the scratch marks on the wall
perception: 1d20 ⇒ 5
"Wasn't there something about the passage being collapsed?"
DM Kludde |
Scare Crow has never heard of this before. The tree of flesh radiates a strong aura of necromancy and evil. Already as the adventurers discuss, the flesh is growing back, making the tree slowly whole again.
There's a door on the north side of the west wall, a collapsed passage on the south side, and scratch marks in the middle.
Orophin Telemnarn |
"Bah, let us finish this thing off so it is not behind us.
Orophin grasps his morningstar two handed and goes to work with the others. After a few momments he tries some other weapons to see if they are more effective against the massive hunk of flesh.
Kerastes |
"My idea exactly Orophin"
Kerastes works with Orophin to destroy the thing.
"Ok, lets see what is behind that door before we start excavating the collapsed passage. I think the orb of stars is behind that, but it can surely wait some more."
DM Kludde |
In concerted effort, the adventurers manage to weed out the fleshy tree. It takes a good twenty minutes of hacking before the fleshy mass stops growing back, and dies out in a scream of pain, not heard, so much as felt by the adventurers.
Cirri Merryweather |
Cirri shudders as the flesh tree finally stops regenerating.
"Alright, keep it together Cirri. I am going to do so much fishing after this. Maybe we'll eat some real food."
Cirri looks around to the other exits. "Let's see what's behind the door, then? Unless someone can squeeze through that tunnel. I can't shrink myself, only grow."
Readjusting stats for the blood drain from the leech and Enlarge Person wearing off. I'm also going to assume it's been an hour since we fought the cannibals, so Mage Armor is gone.
DM Kludde |
Sounds fair. Where do you want to go from here?
Cirri Merryweather |
I think the North West door is next. Kerastes and Cirri are there already.
DM Kludde |
The door opens to a large hall. The large chamber has a relatively low ceiling. The far southwest wall is set at an angle, and against the center of the wall sits a heap of bones and skulls resembling a large makeshift throne. To the left of the throne sits an oak and brass sea chest, carved with images of sea serpents chasing their own tails.
An undead ruler sits on the throne here, while two of his minions leer at the appearing adventurers, but do not move against them yet. The undead on the throne speaks with a voice that betrays unspeakable ancient evil So, you are the ones that have been slaughtering my minions? Tell me, what is your business in these halls
