Fortunately for Vayu, magma dragons are big and sluggish, easy targets in all. Good, because his shaky hands cause the bullets to fly anywhere but near his target. Through sheer luck, he hits once, and as hit aim improves, he lands another shot.
Then, he suddenly seems to find his steady aim, and manages a shot right between the dragon's eyes, but below the armored rim that protects the skull. The bullet enters cranium of the dragon, and passes through it to egress from the other side. A trickle of blood flows out of the dragon nose, who crashes down with a large, heavy splash down into the lava below.
Needless to say, his sibling doesn't take kindly to this, and advances in agitation.

I'm on a short break, so taking it easy. Any actions from Zen'yr?

![]() |

Zen'yr will delay, not wanting to get into the fray, she awaits the dragons descent into the battlefield.

DM Kludde |

The dragon - having seen his brother fall, decides to hide behind the green pillar. There's no sign of the lava creature, it is probably submerged.

"With my slippers of spider climb I can travel around to either side. Who else can fly or climb around? We could rush it."
As he says this, Vayu steps back from the lava.

You're missing me from the initiative, Kludde.
"That sounds like a plan. I have a spell that could get me there, but I'm not sure how I would get back..."

![]() |

"I can run on the walls for a few minutes. Just tell me where you want me to go."
I have the slippers of spider climb.
Ilvan stays behind and protects Ketill. Also, he doesn't want to get burned again.

Ketill moves forward to get a better shot at any opponent that might show itself.
Double move
"I can mix one potion of fly, but that will take a minute"

I should really get those slippers.
"I have no way of harming it without engaging it in melee, and I currently have no way to engage it in melee."
Ilya looks at Ketill. "If you could mix one potion for me, that'd be great. I hope we have a minute...?"
For now, Ilya stays in total defense.

![]() |

"I could loan you my slippers, let you engage it hand-to-hand, and I stand back here in safety... shooting at it... hoping not to hit you. That's an option.", Says Vayu, half joking. Well, maybe less-than-half joking.

![]() |

"My cold infused arrows will hurt it. But I need to see the darn thing to target it. I will prepare the potion."
Ketill puts down his pack and starts with the process to make the fly extract.

DM Kludde |

While the party prepares to cross the boiling, blazingly hot lava, there is no sign of the dragon.
I'll keep the init count, but you can take up to a minute to prepare without any problem.

how high are the walls, he wants to go 20+ feet UP before going horizontal. Wants to be out of reach of lava beasts.

DM Kludde |

Swayaah gets ready to scale the walls, while Ilya flies off, spot the dragon and delivers a mighty punch to it.
Vayu runs along the walls, trying to get a shot. He moves up 20 feet, ending up near the ceiling of the cave, then moves horizontal.

I will keep delaying since most of my options are not the best right now.

DM Kludde |

Ilya proceeds to crack the skull of the stunned dragon, and send it down splashing into the molten stone.
Combat over (the lava creature is submerged in the lava)
On the far side of the spire, the view is magnificent, if a little scalding. Surges of magma pour from the chamber’s uneven ceiling, flooding the cavern except for two charred shores on the east and west sides. The liquid rock over flows, coursing into a lower chamber through the broken north wall. The Emerald Spire breaches that same wall, running from the slanting ceiling to the burning pool below.
The western shore juts out into the magma lake not far from the Emerald Spire. Scratched on the floor is a glowing rune in a “T” shape and an arrow pointing toward the chamber’s eastern shore. A dark passage continues east from the far shore.

"Nice punchin', Ilya." Swayaah stows her earthbreaker. "Come on, Ilvan. It's not too hot if you move quickly." Ilvan mumbles, then crosses the magma pool.

@Swayaah: How did you and Ilvan cross? I'm trying to figure out how to get Kellan across.

![]() |

This Post mentions you can cross the spaces but not end your turn in it. I take that to mean I can double move northwest, then move south.
If I read that wrong and I can't touch the lava at all, then Ilvan can't cross. In that case Swayaah used her slippers of spider climbing to run across the wall.

![]() |

"Wait a sec, guys! Let me help you!"
Ilya flies back and forth to carry everyone across, so they don't have to move through the lava, which could cause the submerged lava monster to make an appearance.

DM Kludde |

You can just over the lava, but if you move through the lava in any way, it's going to hurt. The linked post just mentions the possibility of ending up in the lava.
Ilya eventually ferries the whole group across, while the beast lurking in the lava - not feeling threatened by the adventurers flying overhead - is content to remain where it is.
A natural stairwell opens into a humid cave before continuing into the depths. Rivulets of water run across the floor from a sweating portion of the eastern wall composed of transparent crystal.

![]() |

Oh, guess I misread that. Thanks Ilya!
Swayaah checks the wall. "Pretty. What's behind this wall, anyway?"
Swayaah gets close to the wall and peers through.

DM Kludde |

The glass is hot to the touch - just as pretty much everything here. Behind it is a large basin of water. Swayaah looks a bit closer and notices the 'glass' is not really what it looks to be.
The glass is actually a petrified magma ooze - likely frozen in place by the cooling of the water.

![]() |

Know Dungeoneering: 1d20 + 7 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (12) + 7 + 2 + 2 = 23
"Careful Ilya! That is not glass, but a petrified magma ooze. It is probably frozen in place by the cooling of the water."
Ketill looks at it and then continues "I wonder what would happen if I were to throw a bomb at it, thereby warming it. It would allow us to continue, but I guess we would have to defeat the ooze first. What do you think?"

![]() |

Swayaah pulls her hand back as Ketill mentions it's an ooze.
"Oh great, an ooze." Swayaah shakes her head. "I'm no good against these things, besides maybe distracting it."
"Still, it's blocking our way. Warm it up and let's get rid of it. Any weaknesses I should know about?"

![]() |

"Yes, oozes are no fun... but if it's our way through, we can handle it I'm sure."
Kellan has a frigid touch spell available at the moment, and can add additional cold damage.

DM Kludde |

Not only does the wall hold a petrified ooze - quite easy to his in its current state - but its also holding a considerable basin of water abay. Water that, by the look of it, isn't exactly luke-warm, from the steam evaporating from it.
Breaking the glass will flood the room with scalding water, with potentially painful effects for whoever is in it.

![]() |

"Hmm." Swayaah thinks. "With all that boiling water, and the magma behind us... this isn't a great place to be in. Maybe we should just head downstairs and leave this thing alone."

![]() |

"I am afraid I can't do that. But if we retreat I should be able to hit it from a distance so we can investigate what is behind it."

DM Kludde |

Hitting it from a distance should be possible - there is a stair descending into this room after all, which is safe enough higher ground.

![]() |

Ilya moves onto the stairs leading up. "Alright, I'll wait here."

![]() |

"Ready whenever you are Vayu, I will throw a fire bomb at the wall first"
When everybody is ready Ketill lobs an explosive bomb at the frozen ooze
Touch attack, mutagen, heroism, point blank: 1d20 + 13 + 2 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (9) + 13 + 2 + 2 + 1 = 27
