"What did it say?" Kellan wonders.

Will be on/off computer all day. Let's just presume that Zen'yr will translate whatever is spoken by the strange creature. And DMK can roll whatever check is necessary on my part. Diplomacy is +8, Bluff is +11

It said it needs to harvest crystals for the gold faced man. I presume he means Klarkosh. I wonder if it is a mutual relationship, or a forced one? she says looking at the others.

She than looks at the strange creature.

Hi, my name is Zen'yr. Gundrun was it? Do you like the gold faced man? Does he treat you nice?

Depending on the response, Zen'yr would either tell Gundrun that Klarkosh is dead as a doornail if it seems like a "forced servitude, I hate him vibe". She will also try to reason with the creature using diplomacy if it seems like it might listen. Zen'yr will possibly bluff her way out of the potential fight if it seems like they are good pals.

Gold-faced man is a friend to the Great Master in the Deep. Gundrun lives to serve the master! But the gold-faced man needs Gudrun's help.

Kellan would like to try to determine if the creature might actually cause any magical catastrophes if it keeps chipping away at the spire.

Who is the Master of the Deep, is it the gold-faced man? IS it someone else? How does the Master of the Deep take care of you? Pay you? Help you? Are you causing any damage in your work you are doing here? Could we do anything to help you out?

So, the thought here guys. If it is causing damage to the spire, we of course have to stop it. If it isn't causing any damage, and seeing Klarkosh is DED, then we just leave it be, since it was locked away? Do we let it flee the spire? If a fight does have to go down, since I have befriended it, we can all get a surprise round off on it in theory since Ilya and Kellan could get near it and each take a "free swing?

Agreed! Let's avoid combat if possible, or quickly backstab it otherwise.

Ilya moves up to Gundrun, just in case. If possible, she'll move into a flanking position with Kellan.

Vayu inspects the creature, but can't make much of it. He seems harmless enough, tough that bag aside him is moving.

Kellan has gathered enough about the working of the spire that at the very least the transportation ability of the spire would be disturbed. It will take another while, though - the spire is huge, and the chips the creature cuts off barely scratch the surface.

I don't know if I ever mentioned this, but the spire transport tokens allow transport between levels

Master not happy? Woe Gudrun if master not happy! the creature says, scared as he stop chipping What should Gudrun do now? What will master want? Gudrun better ask!

He'll try and run out of the room.

Zen'yr will let out a large sigh.

Kellan sighs, hating to attack a creature just following orders, but she's also very much ready to move on from this accursed level of machines. She will use an arcane point to make Talon both keen and shock, then move forward and attack Gundrun.

Kellan elicits a loud scream as she stabs the small earth fey. Vayu unloads his barrels on the creature, which then almost dies laughing

Ilya moves over to the prone creature, shifts into the dragon style, and throws a punch at it. If she can flank the creature with Kellan, Ilya will do so.

Ilya pounds down on the hapless earth fey, knocking him straight out. Out of the bag, however, an ugly creature rises from the bag, a strange corruption of a chicken, and starts snapping at Kellan

It's a chicken... of doooom! O_O

Acrobatics, avoid AoO: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (17) + 11 = 28

Ilya circles the chicken of doom and untimely destruction while avoiding an attack of opportunity, in order to flank it with Kellan. She makes claw out of her hand as she mixes the dragon style with the tiger style, and attacks the chicken of impending doom and destruction with it.

"Begone, chicken!"

Kellan, confused by the appearance of the weird chicken, nevertheless takes advantage of Ilya's flanking, casting arcane mark and swinging Talon twice.

The ugly chicken makes whatever distortion of a clucking sound it makes, but is quickly dispatched by Ilya and Kellan. Kellan slashes off the cockatrice's head, and the body runs around in some spasms, spouting go everywhere, before it falls on the ground.

Combat and level over!

Though Redke seems to have fled into the darkness after the encounter with Klarkosh, a familiar face turns up from the ruins above, accompanied by another tiefling. Redke would have loved this! So many fiendish blood to be disdainful about!

After the clockwork level, the stairs once again descend deeper into the earth. Signs of battle—most commonly dried blood, scorch marks, and smashed bones—appear along the stairway down.

The stairs end in the northeast corner of a small, brightly lit room with a door on the west wall. In the center of the room are two large iron racks holding numerous burning candles. The iron candleholders are crafted so that each candle appears to be held in the jaws of a serpent. A phrase is written on each rack in Undercommon.

"So, those are your friends, right?" The female tiefling points at the group. Any owlbear snarls and runs in front of her and Ketill. "Easy, Ilvan. Friends." The owlbear grumbles but calms down as she hands him some meat.

"Howdy folks. I'm Swayaah Maelerant. This is my good friend Ilvan." The owlbear hoots in response. "Ketill said you guys might need some help smashing stuff. Honestly I prefer claws."

Swayaah stretches her wings for a bit. "So, where to next?"

As an Urban Ranger, Swayaah can spot traps like a Rogue. She has a +2 Perception bonus vs traps as of level 5.

"Hello sister. Nice to meet you. And who's this cute wittle thing??"

Kellan skitters over to the owlbear and gives him a big hug, assuming he doesn't bite off her face. :-D

"Why Kellan, it's me: Ketill!" Ketill replies while scaning the familiar faces.

"It is good to be back, it was about time I went out again. Where's Redke? I would have loved to see his face when he found out that we are with three tieflings"

"He seems to have finally gotten scared s*$&%-less... but it's good to see you too, Ketill!"

Ilvan sniffs Kellan at first and then, unsurprisingly, gives her a bear hug, letting out a combination of a hoot and a moan.

"Easy, Ilvan, easy. Owlbears grow up so fast. He bonded to me real quick, though." Swayaah pets Ilvan as he releases Kellan and sniffs the rest of the party.

"That is a shame, despite his rough tongue I kind of liked the bastard"

Ketill has drunk his heightened awareness extract and false life

Zen'yr look at Ketill, as she climbs out of the Spire.

Ah, welcome back. You have been missed, I thought the spire finally got you. As far as Redke, it seems it has other goals in mind. And it is nice to meet you Swayaah...and your fluffy friend.

Zen'yr sweats a bit as she is sniffed, but calms down once the initial greeting is over.

We were about to head back down, hopefully our exploration will go easier than last time..so many crazy constructs.

Before she heads back down, she will make a few purchases. Along with all the scrolls mentioned earlier, she will pick up Circlet of Persuasion.

"Come back here, boy. You're freaking people out." Swayaah notes Zen'yr's hesitation as the several hundred pound feathered beast runs up to her, sniffs repeatedly and hoots in her face. "Sorry about Ilvan, here. He's always like this when he's around friends."

Need to set my spells, but otherwise I think I'm ready.

You can add your owlbear's initiative if you want, but it'll wait for you to give it a command.

Three tielflings, two humans (or at least, they look human), a sylph and an owlbear, descending into the dark underground...

Ilya bows lightly when Swayaah introduces herself and Ilvan. "Nice to meet you Swayaah, and your fluffy friend."

She then bows toward Ketill. "Good to see you back, friend."

Ilya returns the wink to Zen'yr. "Thanks. I should probably get my armor back up as well."

After a single tap, Ilya's mage armor wand immediately gives in. "Well, we're off to a good start... I thought I'd become better at this, but maybe not. Could someone else give me a tap with this wand?"

"No problem, Ilya." Kellan grabs the wand and casts the spell for her.

Kellan bought a new scroll of heart of the metal and another 100gp chunk of adamantine to use with it. Other than that, she's holding on to her gold and saving up for some fun stuff.

Well, glad we got all the bad rolls out of the way soon

Nobody seems to be able to decipher the under common characters, leaving the group none-the-wiser as to what is written there. As Ketill steps closer to the candles, though, he does notice them getting brighter, as if flaring up.

"Scaled brethren? We might find some lizardfolk here, perhaps. Does anyone speak their tongue?"

"I have it! That Kro-akoth is a demon lord, who seeks to usurp the worship of the serpentfolk from their beheaded god Ydersius and make them his own. We can probably expect serpentfolk or demons here"

Ketill grabs his bow and walks towards the door "Shall we continue? And sorry, I do not know what language serpentfolk speak. But I do speak Draconic, Abbysal and Infernal"

"You hear that, Ilvan? We're gonna wreck some demons!" Swayaah hops a bit excitedly on all fours. Ilvan runs up to Swayaah and glares at her until she calms down.

She pulls out her cold iron earthbreaker. "Yeah, I'll calm down. Let's do this."
