The rest of the dead is sacred. The body lies undisturbed, while the soul is within the halls of Pharasma. thesoft-spoken woman responds to Laetshi's question, then is startled by the harsh tone of Asterion I see...
I can trust an agent of Iomedae to do the righteous thing, and not disturb the peace of the deceased. You may enter, so long as you respect the peace of the dead.
The inside of the mausoleum is plain, and the only feature of note are the skeletal remains of Arkath.
A coin in the mouth of the skeleton radiates a faint divination aura[.
The coin is a Pathfinder's Coin
This apparently simple coin, usually styled to resemble ancient currency, hides intricate gold and platinum wires within. This matrix, carefully modeled after fragmentary Azlanti coins, causes the Pathfinder’s coin to rise an inch into the air and slowly spin in place if placed atop a wayfinder. In addition, when levitating above a wayfinder, the coin can be given a message of 25 words or fewer. This message repeats in the speaker’s voice the next time the coin is floated above a wayfinder. Only one message may be stored at a time, and once it is triggered, the message is expended and a new one may be recorded.
/Amelia Rose/ |
Amelia walks in and looks around.. "there doesn't seem like much here. Let's see if there are any spells about.." And she proceeds to cast Detect Magic. Once Amelia sees the coin glowing, she calls the group over and then tries to identify it.

"Well, what have we here! Does anyone have a Wayfinder? This can store messages and replay them.. "take me secrets to the grave", indeed!"

"Yes you can good priest .. thankyou"
Once inside the Mausoleum Asterion looks around
"Well done Amelia, seems I shall have to further my studies of the mystic arts and I do not have a wayfinder."
DM Kludde |
A recorded message, the voice of the long-dead Arkath, speaks:
The path and chamber are complete, hidden behind the nameplate of the requested aspirant and guarded by the word you requested. Fimbrik will add more.
DM Kludde |
Frimbrik's place is a small house on the campus of the Arcanamirium. A brick step leads to Fimbrik’s front entrance, which is locked with a rusty simple lock. Through the window, the party can see an elderly gnome garbed in noble attire with a dapper rounded hat on his head and a cane tipped with a brilliant glowing gem in his hand. He's just entering the chamber, and slowly moves to a chair to sit down and read a newspaper.
/Amelia Rose/ |
Amelia approaches the door and knocks. Mr. Fembrik? May we speak with you for a moment?

Kesuraman Api |
A quiet smiles plays across Kesuraman's face at Zlata's play on words. 'Cryptic'. Very nice. For a sword-swinger, she's got a head on her shoulders.
He joins the party in the trip to Fimbrik, pondering the coin's enigmatic message as they go.
DM Kludde |
Knocking at the door, then looking through the window, the gnome acknowledges the presence of the party by tipping his hat in a friendly gesture. He doesn't move to open the door, though.
/Amelia Rose/ |
Amelia turns and holds up the pathfinder coin for the little gnome to see. She then calls out to him "Sir, we need to speak with you regarding Arkath!"
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (14) + 1 = 15
I could probably use an Aid here..
DM Kludde |
The party makes their best plea, but the gnome seems undisturbed - you're unsure whether he's hearing you at all - and smiles friendly at the commotion outside of his window.
Kesuraman Api |
"Gnomes are a strange bunch," Kesuraman mutters, wondering what it would take to get the gnome to answer his front door. He's relieved - though slightly anxious - when Asterion attempts to resolve the matter by opening the door himself.
DM Kludde |
The front door is locked with a rather rusty lock.
/Amelia Rose/ |
Perplexed at the gnomes odd behavior, Amelia attempts to open the window. If this is successful, she will begin trying to talk to the gnome. If not she will write out a note asking to talk to the gnome and hold it against the window where he can read it
DM Kludde |
The windows cannot be opened. (Assuming you don't want to smash the glass). Amelia writes a note, and holds it up to the window, but it only gets another gentle tip of the hat from the gnome.
/Amelia Rose/ |
Frustrated, Amelia turns to the rest of the group in a huff. " Well! Of all the rude and inhospitable creatures.. Anyone else care to try this, or should we just go through the door??"
DM Kludde |
Are you? If you do, do you break in the door, or smash a window?
/Amelia Rose/ |
"I can throw an acid Splash on that lock.. it looks really rusty and in bad shape"
-Posted with Wayfinder
DM Kludde |
The lock is easily disabled with continued acid evocation, enabling entrance through the front door. A large sofa sits awkwardly near the entrance, facing toward the center of the room. Sets of chairs and tables are arranged throughout, and statues of grandiose gnomes occupy the corners of the room. A set of stairs at the northern edge of the chamber leads to a basement. A second set of stairs leads up to a second floor.
Fimbrik is northeast of here
Kesuraman Api |
"Good job, Amelia," Kesuraman says, stepping through the door. He points to the northeast corner of the house and continues, "Well, the gnome was that way. I guess we should go talk to him. Seems rude to just wander around his house, even if he was rude to us."
/Amelia Rose/ |
Amelia follows the group towards the gnome

Taelbin Morro |
Taelbin heads in to find the gnome.
Good day to you Mr. Fimbrik. We had hoped to have a word with you, but when you wouldn't answer our knocks we became worried. We tried the door and thankfully it opened. It appears your lock was tampered with by hoodlums or something.

Zlata moves into the building, muttering "I've got a bad feeling about this." She keeps her eyes open for anything that would indicate a trap or ambush.

DM Kludde |
As the pathfinders move past the obstructive sofa, a crackling sound breaks, and the smell of ozone fills the air. In a flash, three fire beetle appear in the middle of the room - it's immediately apparent to Amelia that this was a summoning spell.

"Perhaps we'd have done better to withhold the reason for our visit a bit longer. Oh well... too late now." And with a devilish grin, Laetshi moves into the gnome's home, draws her pistol, and fires a round into the nearest beetle.

DM Kludde |
Amelia is startled by the beetle, and her acid only hits the carpet near the beetle. Laetshi's shot penetrated the thick shield of the beetle, and destroys the creature inside.

I'll act for Zlata next time if needed, had a busy day and wasn't able to earler.
Kesuraman's long, slender fingers run along the worn leather belt he carries slung across his chest, looking like a large, dark spider hunting for something. The fingers close on a blackened ceramic flask, which he pops open and adds something to. Resealing the lid, Kesuraman gives it a shake, then tosses it at one of the fire beetles.
It hits the beetle with a crashing explosion, and Kesuraman seems genuinely shocked at the amount of noise he's just made, his eyes widening and his hand covering his mouth in surprise.
It's not clear to me which one is dead, since there are still three of them on the map. If there are two together, I'll target them. If not, it doesn't really matter which one I target. 1/5 bombs used today.

No problem, I just put Zlata on delay, because this isn't a terribly tough fight
Asterion crunches a beetle in one corner of the room, while Kesuraman advances on the last one, and splatters across the room with a well-aimed bomb.
Combat over
