[PFS CORE] 6-10 The Wounded Wisp - GM Lamplighter (Inactive)

Game Master Scott Young

LINK to Chronicles

The Absalom tavern known as the Wounded Wisp is where the Pathfinder Society was founded, and it is still a favorite haunt for members of the Society. A simple errand turns into a complex web of intrigue, with four centuries of secrets at stake.

Recruiting now! Before you express interest, please consider the following:

* I am looking for people who can, and will, post at least once a day. People who routinely coast for days at a time and only check in for combat will be dropped from the game.

* this is a Core Campaign, Pathfinder Society (PFS) scenario. If you don't know what that means, you'll want to visit the Pathfinder Society page and look at the information there. "Core campaign" means that only rules from the Core Rulebook are allowed in character creation.

* For this game, I'm looking for players who make actual Pathfinder characters - characters who are ready, willing and able to fulfill the Society's mantra of "Explore, Report, Cooperate". I don't really want no-skill barbarians or "all I can do is watch my tiger play" characters. I love me a slug-fest as well, but I prefer those in-person and using different scenarios. This one is a roleplay-heavy scenario, and play-by-post really lets that come out.

In exchange for all this, I promise I will try and provide an awesome gaming experience for you.

If you're interested, please post with a full character sheet before Wednesday, March 11 at 11PM Central Time. I'll take the most interesting and cohesive six characters that we have at that point. (I hate "first to post gets in" games, because I never get in to those... hence the timed deadline.)

The Exchange

Highly recommend this! Just finished this scenario with this GM and had a great game.

If you are still looking for players tomorrow count me in.

Hello!

I'm interested in playing with a level one rogue. Do you prefer character sheets linked off-site, or would you like stat blocks in spoiler blocks?

Ideally, everything on the Paizo site, please. It's a hassle to go to another spot just to look up a Will save.

You don't want no skill barbarians? So if we make a barbarian, we have to stat drop int, or do you mean don't stat drop int just because we are barbarian. Also, I know this isn't common, but Armored Sorcerer, now wait, I have a legit reason. In combat, he is going to be an up close an personal psychotic sorcerer up for revenge. He will do stuff outside of combat, as I will give him a personality. Wait a second, a up front close and personal psychotic sorcerer up for revenge? Yes, have you ever been revenge driven? Have you ever? And I don't mean someone embarrassed you in front of you friends you get them back revenge. I mean somebody you know maybe even well did something really horrible to you, like robbed your house or took you hostage or seriously injured your family member or threatened you to give him money/drugs/porn etc. I can honestly know what it feels like, and anyone that badly revenge driven doesn't care how risky the revenge is or how dangerous it is, they are that badly traumatized/upset/angry they will do just about anything when given a chance or when afraid it will continue. A sorcerer that uses close up spells like burning hands and shocking grasp can do more damage than a sorcerer that stands back and uses magic missile or acid splash or most of the ranged spells you can take. A sorcerer that is revenge driven. He also needs a little armor to pull off the stunt that he will do, and yes he is taking light armor proficiency.

Anyway, core means you can get credit for this as many times as you replay it, right? Because I've already played this one.

Background
Philonous worked with his family as an assistant undertaker for years, and studied religion and metaphysics extensively in preparation for a career as a mortician. The untimely passing of his closest childhood friend has forced him to confront personal death for the first time, and he has begun to think that despite his longevity and depth of experience, he may have led a somewhat sheltered life. He realized that he never felt quite at peace in his work, and had begun to doubt the meaning of the rituals and beliefs he has studies at such length.

Inspired by a black-sheep uncle who occasionally wandered through the grove with stories of the amazing things he saw while adventuring as a pathfinder, Philonous has decided to see the world on an adventure of his own. His parents were generally supportive of his plans to make an informed decision about his future, although they are dubious about his methodology and have encouraged him not to take too many risks and to come home as soon as he felt ready.

@ DoubleGold,
Unfortunately Core does not let you relay as often as possible. You can play a normal scenarios once in PFS and once in core, that's it.

There are some exceptions though:
Since this is a replayable (or "Evergreen") scenario you can play this one as many times as you want with different first level characters. You can also play it once in PFS and once in core with 2nd level characters. This is due to the way the scenarios was written and developed and has nothing to do with whether it is run as PFS or Core.

Replayable scenarios are for tiers 1-2 (though you can only replay them with multiple 1st level characters). They are also listed as "Evergreen" in the product dicription.
see HERE

Core is a different version of PFS where players can only use the Core rule book and Guide to organized play. Since it is a different version you start off with a blank slate of scenarios you can play, but (just like in PFS) the same replay rules still apply.

Hope that makes sense.

Hi GM Lamplighter

I'm interested to play it as a Core Game :)

Good because I plan on making a fresh level 1 for this, so I can play it again and get credit for it. And I'm okay with core only stuff as I have the core rulebook.

edit: the only thing I cannot find in the core rulebook is the traits? Where are they? I even looked in the index.

Dark Archive

@DoubleGold : you can find it here

Yup, I forgot that the trait PDF is legal as well.

Having a great backstory is fine, but if your backstory gets in the way of the front-story it becomes a problem. Those are all fine character concepts, but they don't really fit a team-based campaign with a strong theme of exploration like the Pathfinder Society campaign is. For example, someone who is completely revenge-driven should be off pursuing their revenge, not hanging around with Pathfinders running little errands and picking up meaningless (to them) artifacts.

It is sometimes useful to ask yourself, "Why would this character be a member of the Pathfinder Society?" If the answer is, "They wouldn't," then maybe it's not the best fit for this campaign.

By the way, the other legal source for materials is the Guide to Organized Play, which has faction traits and the wayfinder in it.

I meant revenge driven as to the reason why he gets up close in combat instead of being far back, like that bad that will will try to do massive damage at the cost of his own life, as close range spells do more damage than far away ones. You can be revenge driven and still be the nice guy who does everything for everyone. He isn't the type to adventure off by himself, if that is what you are wondering.

Anyway, are you planning to DM more core games after this? Because if this is the only one, that would not be fun for me, because I won't be able to flesh out a characters full personality and enjoy with just one pfs game.

Is this our party of four? This is going to be such a trip! Let's do this thing!

Got it. I am planning to run more Core games, but this isn't really a campaign... PFS scenarios are a series of connected one-shots, and you might have different GMs each time.

We do have four, if double gold is in... please set up your aliases and profiles with your full character sheets so I can take a look.

Also, if you are new to PbP games, you should check out these posts for tips and how to set up your profile:
Doomed Hero's Guide

Davius Pompulus for his first mission.

Evan Whitefield aka G.M.E.W aka Shechera
Here is my first core character!
Basic Stats are in profile and I'll be cleaning them up/formatting them in a bit.

Yes, he doesn't have a name. I'm tying this into his back story and we'll see how the concept plays out.

GMfeel free to use _______ for ooc stuff

Players feel free to give him any names you want, as long as its not rude.

Dark Archive

A semi-cloned copy of a character I already own. I wanted to get a theme that I was familiar with. And a variant of a fleshed out characters personality that I already own.

Grand Lodge

Phil munches thoughtfully on a handfull of buttercups, brushes his hands off on his trousers, and introduces himself to the fellow with the quarter staff. "Gosh, I should have brought a walking stick, too! It'd have made the walk in much easier. I'm Philonous Phaenogamus, but you can call me Phil. You are?"
