Radiant |
Pausing in front of the Aura Radiant will study it to know it school and relative strength and then to try to understand it.
Spellcraft: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (12) + 10 = 22
GM Sior |
Strictly, round one tells you there's magic, round two will tell you how many, and round three would tell where and how powerful, which is when a Spellcraft would be applicable.
Whitwood Spendlehaven |
Whitwood will move forward, and summon a hound archon behind the smaller golem.
The hound archon will then five foot step diagonally down and strike the Golem, swinging in with his great sword.
Archon: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (19) + 9 = 282d6 + 12 ⇒ (5, 5) + 12 = 22
Potential crit!
Archon: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (1) + 9 = 102d6 + 12 ⇒ (6, 2) + 12 = 20
Nope!
GM Sior |
The hound archon pops in and swipes at the smaller statue. Some damage goes through, but it's not completely effective.
The large guardian finds itself with many intruders and swings at Grimnir and Sareth!
Grimnir!: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (7) + 16 = 23 2d8 + 5 ⇒ (6, 1) + 5 = 12
Sareth: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (18) + 16 = 34 2d8 + 5 ⇒ (2, 3) + 5 = 10
The sharp edges of the construct cut deep into Sareth, causing his wounds to bleed freely! 1d8 bleed damage at the start of your turn
Order
Grimnir, Radiant
Small statue (17 damage)
Iacobus, Sareth, Whitwood
Guardian
Sareth |
"I got the bleeding covered. You guys get IT!"
Grimnir Foehammer |
Grimir ducks his head at the last second and avoids the large fist.. He swings up with his greatsword at the Wood Golem.. Bruning another round of bane..
Attack 1: 1d20 + 24 ⇒ (4) + 24 = 28
Attack 2: 1d20 + 19 ⇒ (11) + 19 = 30
Dam 1: 4d6 + 28 ⇒ (5, 6, 1, 1) + 28 = 41
Dam 2: 4d6 + 28 ⇒ (5, 6, 5, 6) + 28 = 50
Again will overcome all DR
If he kills it he'll take a 5' step forawrds..
GM Sior |
Curious from whence the DR bypassing comes from. Still...
With two blows, Grimnir strikes down the wood golem!
Order
Grimnir, Radiant, Iacobus, Sareth, Whitwood
Guardian
Grimnir Foehammer |
Weapon is +1 furious, which makes it +3 while raging.. Bane adds another +2 to that making it a +5 weapon.. +5 weapons overcome all DR minus DR/- or Epic DR. I suppose if it had either of those it wouldnt bypss though..
GM Sior |
I thought it was something as such, though it would not bypass DR/bludgeoning or DR/piercing. Not that that's applicable here, haha.
Sareth |
Thankful that the golems don't count, Sareth channels to heal the living (which should also take care of the bleeding.)
HEAL: 4d6 ⇒ (4, 4, 4, 6) = 18
Whitwood Spendlehaven |
Whitwood cheers on his raging dwarven companion, and will cast haste on everyone.
Haste on Radiant, Sareth, Grimnir and the Archon (and Whitwood).
The archon will then begin its assault on the larger creature.
Archon Greatsword: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (12) + 10 = 222d6 + 12 ⇒ (1, 2) + 12 = 15
Archon Greatsword haste: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (3) + 10 = 132d6 + 12 ⇒ (3, 6) + 12 = 21
GM Sior |
Radiant continues to examine the area for magic, noticing that there is but the one aura and that it is fairly faint.
Sareth suffers from the bleeding only to heal it with a channel.
Whitwood speeds up most of the party (Radiant is too far away) as his summoned creature strikes at the large construct, barely inflicting a scratch with its first swing and missing with the second.
Iacobus delays.
The large guardian slams into Grimnir and the archon.
Grimnir: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (1) + 16 = 17 Nat 1
Archon: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (17) + 16 = 33 2d8 + 5 ⇒ (7, 4) + 5 = 16 and 1d8 ⇒ 7 bleed
Party up
Whitwood Spendlehaven |
The Archon is looking bloodied (11/51hp) but it bears its fangs and continues swinging.
Greatsword: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (3) + 10 = 132d6 + 12 ⇒ (6, 4) + 12 = 22
Greatsword: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (15) + 10 = 252d6 + 12 ⇒ (2, 2) + 12 = 16
Whitwood will begin casting enlarge person on Grimnir (unless he objects).
Grimnir Foehammer |
He's a raging ball of fury atm.. Not of the proper mind to reject ally spells..
Grimnir again ducks his head at the mighty fist and gives back 3 swipes in return.. Burning another Bane..
Attack 1: 1d20 + 25 ⇒ (11) + 25 = 36
Attack 2: 1d20 + 20 ⇒ (2) + 20 = 22
Haste: 1d20 + 25 ⇒ (2) + 25 = 27
Man this dice bot hates..
Dam 1: 4d6 + 28 ⇒ (1, 3, 2, 3) + 28 = 37
Dam 2: 4d6 + 28 ⇒ (3, 1, 2, 4) + 28 = 38
Dam Haste: 4d6 + 28 ⇒ (5, 3, 5, 2) + 28 = 43
GM Sior |
Radiant discovers that it's a magic mouth trigger area.
The archon misses with its first attack, but merely scratches it with its second.
Grimnir does manage to get two hits on the thing, but is rather disappointed that it deals less damage than he expected it would.
The guardian swipes again at Grimnir and the archon.
Grimnir: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (12) + 16 = 28 2d8 + 5 ⇒ (1, 6) + 5 = 12 and Bleed: 1d8 ⇒ 2
Archon: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (15) + 16 = 31 2d8 + 5 ⇒ (2, 5) + 5 = 12 and Bleed: 1d8 ⇒ 7 Pop?

Attack 2: 1d20 + 20 ⇒ (16) + 20 = 36
Haste: 1d20 + 25 ⇒ (13) + 25 = 38
Dam 1: 4d6 + 28 ⇒ (2, 6, 6, 6) + 28 = 48
Dam 2: 4d6 + 28 ⇒ (3, 4, 2, 2) + 28 = 39
Dam 3: 4d6 + 28 ⇒ (6, 3, 3, 5) + 28 = 45
AC is 25 with Haste up..
Radiant |
Radiant, moving silently still, begins to dance as he 5' steps forward into the flank and sneak attacks the construct. As he appears his battle standard of the Pathfinder society is visible, inspiring all his allies.
Stealth: 1d20 + 15 + 20 ⇒ (3) + 15 + 20 = 38
Scimitar: 1d20 + 15 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 15 + 2 = 241d6 + 9 + 4d6 ⇒ (4) + 9 + (3, 1, 6, 6) = 29 Against a flat Footed AC.
After the attack he will use his swift action to vanish again.
Whitwood Spendlehaven |
Pop indeed.
Whitwood will finish casting enlarge person on Grimnir, and then summon another Archon (this one, unfortunately, doesn't benefit from haste.
Greatsword: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (15) + 9 = 242d6 + 12 ⇒ (5, 1) + 12 = 18
GM Sior |
As Radiant moves up, a voice speaks from nowhere in Ancient Osiriani.
Grimnir puts down the guardian with two of his swings as the pieces of glass shatter and fly everywhere!
Out of combat
Where to?
Whitwood Spendlehaven |
Whitwood will cast summon Eidelon, to get My Friend back in a hurry.
My Friend will move through the room, checking the place out carefully.
Perception: 1d20 + 27 ⇒ (10) + 27 = 37
Anyone know what that voice said? Sounded like it could have been important. Or, you know, begone all who enter here and so forth. Either way.
Sareth |
Is the sphinx still nearby? Can she translate?
Radiant |
Likely just some idle threat. Lets keep moving. I was able to tell it was only a Magic Mouth. A minor magic with no teeth to it.
If Radiant did not strike he is still invisible, right?
Grimnir Foehammer |
Didn't someone use Comp Languages recently?
Grimnir lets his rage fall off and pulls a wand to heal himself, but not before he bleeds.. 1d8 ⇒ 8
1d8 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6
If given another round he continues to heal..
Sareth |
DM call if it's been less than 10 minutes since we've been down here. If yes, then I would understand the speech.
GM Sior |
Yes, Radiant can still be invisible.
Towards the end of the spell's duration, one of you hears the voice say "You are not a Jewelled Sage. Turn back now or be sent from here to the great beyond!" ...or something like that and relays it to the group.
Turning to look, you find the sphinx sitting behind the party. "Well handled," is all she has to offer. She then describes that this central feature to this room is the portal to further in the library. But activating it requires a sage jewel. Or, at the very least, a proxy to fool the portal.
Sareth |
"Now I am confused. Fooling the portal? Shouldn't we get the real deal in here? Are we messing up our mission?"
Sareth would hate for his new friend to be doing something wrong, but I'm sure she has a good reason...
Grimnir Foehammer |
"Im not sure whats going on either.. I hate the desert."
GM Sior |
At Sareth's question, the sphinx nods slightly. "You could wait for a proper jewel to get here, but if you recall in the corridors above, they list the contents of the library beyond. Even as we made our way through, those items were being removed, and I fear worse fates than simple removal. A flawed sage jewel may allow passage for you to stop this atrocity. Thankfully, I know how."
She then explains that one would need a focus point, a stone of some sort. It would then need to be purified, then used to absorb a small hint of mythic power. She goes on to say that she knows of two such gems: the soul focus in Badru, who is the remnant of a soulbound follower of the sages and her nemesis down here, and the stone which is the place of Saruna's own heart.
GM note: That was a ridiculous DC for a check in one certain room to get a necessary piece of information.
Secondary note: I believe Kim posted that once the portal was found, retrieve her and she would allow entry, though she was fairly sure it would be opened once she allowed you access to this region.
Grimnir Foehammer |
"Ok so we could kill you enemy down here or kill you.. Either one would grant us entry.. Or if I remember right the lady told us as we entered this place to come get her when we found the portal.. We could do that as well."
Whitwood Spendlehaven |
Oh, we couldn’t possibly consider harming her, she’s been so kind and helpful. Maybe we should go back upstairs and see what Tahonikepsu has to say?
Grimnir Foehammer |
"Right.. Lets get after it then.." Grimnir leads the way back to the surface.
GM Sior |
As you leave, you replay the words Tahonikepsu spoke to you and realize that when she said "await my return", it seems as though she may have been planning to leave to perform other duties, leaving you on your own until she returns.
Sorry, I didn't GM that part, and it didn't seem clear to me, either, until I re-read the mission briefing in the scenario.
GM Sior |
Saruna seems unfazed. "If my life is the cost of preserving the contents of the library, that is no large sacrifice. Look at what this duty has made of me. A rotting abomination with no hope of rest."
Sareth |
"Seems legit, let us go back up quickly so we can get on with it down here."
Grimnir Foehammer |
"Even though I don't like you much you have been helpful to us so lets go that this fake stone from your enemy instead of you.. Lead the way.."
GM Sior |
Synopsis so far:
You've been sent down to find the source of some disturbance in the library below. Tahonikepsu knew there was a chance that the way would be barred to those without a sage jewel, but sent you anyway. Now you have to figure a way to get in.
Saruna looks around. "He is likely holed up in here somewhere. I suggest we move from this room however." She points to the remnant of the guardian, whose glass shards seem to vibrate on the ground. They seem to be regathering!
GM Sior |
The sphinx merely chuckles. "Look at me. I was tricked in the days of yore and made into this against my will. It is only my duty to protect this place which prevents me from ending this wretched existence."
Grimnir Foehammer |
"If you want out tell us now so we save ourselves the trouble with this other fella.."
Sareth |
"I am happy to bring you relief from such a fate my friend. We can liberate you and then use other means."
Going to Total Con over the weekend, and my posting will be spotty. Let's kick this one in the butt and make progress :-)
Sareth |
Let's just use the Sphinx's and move forward.
GM Sior |
Saruna gives you some details on using her heart as the stone and the process to purify it in Thoth's temple above (in the room where you met her), and that you must still allow it to absorb some mythic power in order for it to work. This can be done by presenting it to the glass guardian which was just recently sent asunder.
Meanwhile, Whitwood took a survey of the room which contained the golems and guardian and came up with a hidden compartment containing a cedar chest. The chest contains a golembane scarab and a scroll of malfunction.
