Coming out the other side Grimnir tries to get a feel of what the Sphinx is up to. It would be better to pick his own spot to fight rather than let her set the terms. With his companions all star struck by her it would be up to him..
He casts Divine Favor before approaching her. "I've got aquestion for ye. Why have you charmed all my companions? What's your angle here because my patience has worn thin."
SM to her response: 1d20 + 27 ⇒ (18) + 27 = 45
He holds a tight grip on his sword and is ready for a fight if it comes to it..

![]() |

Sareth looks intently at Grimnir and feels the sense of urgency. "I worry that there's more to this archive than meets the eye. There are many questions, and I worry about what we're missing out on...
I know this one has been slow (and I get the feeling it's a bit complex for PbP), but we got this. Let's push through to the end! :-)

![]() |

Im about the kill me a Sphinx i think.. He doesn't appreciate his group being charmed..

![]() |

Gotcha, and good luck with that. OOC I do not believe the Sphinx "actively" charmed anyone. She may well have been guilty of allowing us to read some writing that did the same thing though… You might ask her to remove said charm.

![]() |

Apologies. Convention weekend had be rather busy and quite exhausted.
The sphinx merely shrugs. "I did nothing to them. It was a warding I had against Badru or other trespassers. I was not expecting allies. What would you have me do? Break the charm by attacking them, thereby making you dislike me further? It harms no one and will wear off, I'm sure."
In this lower level, it is plain that someone wants to be left alone. A barricade lies shattered about the base of the stairs in what looks to have once been a workshop.
A breach in the wall allows passage into natural caves to the west while a door offers egress further down on the same wall. Additionally, passages exit the room to the south and the east into darkness.

![]() |

My 45 sense motive roll? She telling the truth or bending?

![]() |

"Lead on then.. But make no mistake, I'll remove your head if you turn on us.."

![]() |

With a smile, the sphinx simply says, "I have no doubt you will try. But come now, sir dwarf, should not you lead your team? I suspect you would only think I was leading you to a trap."

![]() |

We gotta hamemr forwards if we want that boon roll guys..
Grimnir takes a quick look and then moves to the west..
Perc: 1d20 + 23 ⇒ (5) + 23 = 28

![]() |

"Mistress Sphinx, what do we expect here? Is there something we should beware of, or seek to protect?"
Sareth stays with Grimnir, casting Guidance on himself and the dwarf.
Perception: Sareth: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (7) + 10 = 17. Barring any clues to stop him, Sareth will then advance.

![]() |

As Grimnir goes into the western area, the sphinx responds that this area is from whence the intruders came. "What once was sacred and set apart can now be accessed by anyone with the drive to delve the tunnels. Such mistreatment will destroy the sanctum as it has proven to do currently."
The hewn cavern continues to the southwest while another breach leads into a room to the south.

![]() |

Let's check the took first.
"I worry that we'll accidentally cause damage."
its been a while, but did we ever ask if guards and guardians count as "things to protect?

Hmm. I posted but it appears to have been eaten. Well, here it is again.
Radient will scout ahead, trusting his trap spotting talent and stealth ability to keep him safe. He will stay just outside of the full light of the party in the larger dim light circle that he can see so well in. His conjured Dancing Lights will scout well ahead of him, flashing down the passage to reveal its content. It can move 100 feet away in a single round.
Stealth: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (16) + 15 = 31

![]() |

The eastern passage heading south leads down to a corner while also splitting off to a passage to the west and a door to the west as well.

![]() |

Grimnir moves down the hall after the friend and check out the rooms..
Recasting Detect Magic as he goes.
Perc: 1d20 + 23 ⇒ (18) + 23 = 41

![]() |

Just in case, Sareth will cast Magic Circle Against Evil

![]() |

3d20 ⇒ (20, 10, 10) = 40
My Friend looks around the corner but is not as stealthy as it thinks. Indeed, within the large chamber stand three statues. Two face away while a larger watches over the passage from when the shape-changing Friend is looking. Its eyes glow blue as a rough voice grumbles something unintelligible.
Iacobus: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (11) + 5 = 16
Radiant: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (14) + 5 = 19
Sareth: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
Whitwood: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
Guardian: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (1) - 1 = 0 HA!

My Friend relays back that hostiles have been met.
Grimnir and Radiant are up!

![]() |

Grimnir moves up 20', casts Divine Favor and Activates his Judgement as a swift.. Choosing Justice and Destruction

![]() |

Knowing that there are hostilities about to begin Radiant will vanish and advance silently. When he sees the creatures he will use the rest of his move to back out of the 5' hall.
Stealth: 1d20 + 35 - 5 ⇒ (16) + 35 - 5 = 46
Seeing the threat he will try to identify both the Small statues and the Guardian.
Small statues: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (16) + 5 = 21
Guardian: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (11) + 5 = 16
Note he is +5 to all knowledge checks so I am not specifying which he is using.

![]() |

Radiant is unsure about the guardian, but does recognize a couple wood golems when he sees them. Sadly, he does not recall anything beyond their identification.

![]() |

The smaller statues converge on Grimnir and My Friend. As they come up, both in turn slam a foot into the ground, sending splinters flying at everyone around them!
Grimnir and Friend: 6d6 ⇒ (1, 5, 4, 5, 6, 3) = 24 slashing damage, DC 14 Reflex save halves
Grimnir and Friend and Blue: 6d6 ⇒ (4, 1, 6, 3, 5, 4) = 23 slashing damage, DC 14 Reflex save halves

My friend draws the sword from his back, and swings at the construct in front of him.
Bastard Sword: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (8) + 11 = 191d10 + 7 ⇒ (2) + 7 = 9
Whitwood lets out a yelp of surprise as shards of stone ping down the hallway and tear into the now less than substantial form of My Friend, and then ducks around the corner, dismissing my friend and calling out for the rest of the party.

![]() |

The bastard sword plinks harmlessly off the hardened wood armour of the construct! The form of My Friend winks out of existence leaving Grimnir alone with the two monstrosities of timber.
Iacobus and Sareth!

![]() |

Double move. Sorry it's not very exciting...
"This is what I fear. More combat will ruin things!"

![]() |

We still here?

![]() |

This was a Game Day Game, and yes we are past reporting sadly.

![]() |

We were waiting on Iacobus, who hasn't posted in a month. Sent a PM, so we'll see. Meanwhile, will put him on delay.
The guardian lumbers forward toward Grimnir, rumbling something. It doesn't seem an intelligible language, but it is clear you are unwelcome here.
Order
Grimnir, Radiant

I think its obvious that the Bard would start his song of inspiring us right?
Grimnir rages as a free action, uses bane on the golem as a swift, and full attacks..
Attack 1: 1d20 + 24 ⇒ (10) + 24 = 34
Attack 2: 1d20 + 19 ⇒ (7) + 19 = 26
Damage 1: 4d6 + 28 ⇒ (3, 4, 6, 5) + 28 = 46
Damage 2: 4d6 + 28 ⇒ (3, 3, 4, 2) + 28 = 40
Raging with Bane the weapon is considered +5 so will overcome all DR.
AC is 24 this round..

![]() |

With the larger construct away from the center of the room Radiant will first move his Dancing Lights forward to the center of the room. If this gets no reaction from the creatures he will cast Detect Magic and cautiously advance himself, vanishing if the creatures turn his way.

![]() |

Grimnir, red or blue construct? There are two right in front of you.
As Radiant enters the room, the guardian turns to look at him only to see him vanish again.

![]() |

Will go ahead and do Iacobus's turn from last round.
Iacobus double-moves to get into the fray.
Grimnir reduces one of the golems to splinters with his two strikes!
The remaining golem slams at Grimnir.
Slam: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (10) + 14 = 24
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (3, 6) + 6 = 15

Sareth moves up to Grimnir and casts a small curative spell on him:
Empowered CLW: 1d8 + 5 ⇒ (1) + 5 = 6 x 1.5 = 9

![]() |

Just checking.
As Sareth weaves his curative spell, the large construct reaches out to smack him!
AoO: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (2) + 16 = 18
2d8 + 5 ⇒ (5, 5) + 5 = 15

Ah, now I understand the question. I'm casting, moving, delivering the friendly touch (The attack would have missed anyway.)

![]() |

When you first stated move then cast, I just wanted to make sure. Once confirmed, AoO followed.
Still Whitwood

Apologies, missed it.
At the entrance of the room, there appears to be the start of a large magical aura.
