The fire elemental swings once more at the mummy by the wall.

Whitwood Spendlehaven |
Whitwood, hearing the sounds of fighting from the fog, but not the sounds of friends crying out for aid, assumes everything is going well, and hides (in a supportive and morale boosting way) behind the collapsed pillar.
Hearing the deathly moans of the most hated undead, the Archon moves foward, raising his blade to strike down the monstrosity.

Grimnir then sees the hound archon move up and start swinging at a wall for some unknown reason. The archon is oddly satisfied after its strike, as if it just put down an undead fiend.

Shortly after, a voice wafts from the wall to the east. "Have you come to destroy me, too? Be warned, I will not go quietly. So the archon put down that last Mummy? I wanted a chance to do that. lol. This assumes that all the undead are vanquished.
Radient will step forward out of the fog as he sheaths his sword as he calls out to his friends. The undead we attacked were harassing a noble Sphinx. I see her (him?) now and she wishes to parley. Then bowing low Radient continues. We did not know the creatures of fire were your minions great one and were unsure who the true enemy was. Forgive us this folly. We too wish to talk.

GM Sior |
Aye, the immediate threat is dealt with.
As Radiant steps through the wall, he is immediately hit by a sense that he air in this room is extremely dry. It carries the scent of incense and old parchment. A simple altar occupies the east wall. An ibis statue sits behind it, silently gazing over any visitors. Pale light shines on the altar from a painting of the moon on the ceiling, illuminating stray motes of dust.
The sphinx settles on a very tattered, very old sitting pillow in front of the altar. "Speak, then. What cause could you possibly have down here?"
Iacobus Higgenstrom |
I'm going to guess that I get the Touch of Glory. :p
Iacobus moves forward in order to get a good view of the Sphinx.
"Madam, it is a pleasure to meet you down here. We have no intention of harming you, our main concern is that we were asked to come down here to preserve books, and fire elementals in a library seemed contrary to that task.
"Allow me to introduce myself. My name is Iacobus Higgenstrom. I am a master performer and scholar. Among my compatriots here we have Grimnir, devotee of Gorum, Sareth, devotee of Sarenrae, Radiant, the battledancer, and Whitwood, one that can talk to creatures from beyond. We are all members of the Pathfinder Society, an organization devoted to collecting knowledge of the world around us, and we have been called down here by the Jeweled Sages since we are known for our skill in preserving and acquiring information in unknown and possibly hostile environments.
"I apologize greatly for the destruction of your minions, but now that we are talking, may we hear your introduction as well? What has caused you to be stuck in this library for hundreds of years? That sounds like a dreadfully long time."

Aye, Iacobus certainly is the faceman! Sareth stands with the bard, unafraid of foe, but not looking to start up another fight.
GM Sior |
Sure can!
The sphinx is clearly a female, though what sort is uncertain. What is most striking is the fact that she looks like an undead creature herself, yet holds a sphinx's intellect and pride, as you can see from her demeanor.
1d20 ⇒ 20
Iacobous walks up to the wall and through it, able to see through the illusion. As he delivers his speech, you see the sphinx's eyes narrow in distaste with the mention of the Sages. Still she nods and offers her own introduction. "Answers to such a simple riddle lie in the deathless thoughts of one such as I. Saruna now speaks, despite having long since died."
Whitwood Spendlehaven |
Whitwood will approach cautiously, and instruct his Archon to detect evil. A creature combining the tenacity and resilience of the undead with the shrewd cunning of a sphinx terrifies him greatly.
Can't get to the Google drive, could you move me up GM?
Grimnir Foehammer |
Grimnir stands aside and lets the others do the talking..
Radiant |
Radiant asks boldly. My lady Saruna. Might I inquire as to why those strange undead mummy like things were trying to harm you? Are you under siege down in this tomb?
GM Sior |
The archon reports that the sphinx does radiate evil.
Again, the response is cryptic. "Once before the gears of war ground the cogs which run no more. But one is left to bear the fight, to decimate this unhallowed blight."
Sareth |
"Sounds like there's a protective measure left to fight an intruder. Who or what is this unhallowed blight?"
GM Sior |
The sphinx does not answer, but averts her gaze as if the answer would be incriminating or embarrassing.
GM Sior |
More cryptic answers! "A tale of blood and gems these walls would tell. The sage asked for commitment of heart and soul; he left cold stone and a ragged hole."
Grimnir Foehammer |
"Man do I hate riddles.." Grimnir shuffles impatiently..
Sareth |
Gotcha. Sorry I've been sporadic, things are normal now.
Our task too is to protect and catalog. The preservation of knowledge is a noble goal that holds us together. Will you allow us to travel these wall and check on everything?"
Whitwood Spendlehaven |
Whitwood fades back into view, standing behind the knees of his Archon.
Well, I, ummm, I suppose we could help you, maybe? What is it you want?
GM Sior |
In her cryptic way, Saruna says that she wishes to be free of this place, but only a jeweled sage can remove the enchantment which keeps her here. Also, there is another hurdle: Badru, a remnant of a previous invasion of the area, has been roaming about causing trouble for her and the vaults below.
In exchange for your aid in completing those tasks, she offers a way into the library. Currently, it is sealed so only a jeweled sage can enter it, but she may be able to aid you in creating a flawed sage jewel which should allow you to bypass it.
Sareth |
Sense Motive: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (14) + 10 = 24
Do I get the impression she's on the up and up?
If yes, I'm with Radiant, ready to go.
GM Sior |
Sareth is unsure of the sphinx. For one, she is an undead creature, yet carries with her a sense of intelligence and benevolence not characteristic of such a fiend, let alone the honesty of her words.
In other words, no deception or lies or anything.
Whitwood Spendlehaven |
"I, uhhh, I guess that would work" says Whitwood cautiously, still worried about his archons assessment of the creature, and keeping her claws firmly in view.
With that, Whitwood dismisses his Archon, and summons back My Friend, who, after a brief moment as a featureless silhouette, transforms into a cloaked and hooded tiefling, short horn poking up from within the hood.
My Friend sets off from the room, quietly, and begins scouting ahead.

Iacobus Higgenstrom |
"My lady we wish to explore the whole area, not just the library, but we will be glad to help rid this invader nonetheless. I am sure that we can help repair the problems the Jeweled Sages have caused you and the mend your relationship with said Sages. Is there any information you can share with us about this area?"
Sareth |
Sareth will put his hand through and help his friends understand the illusion (to give you a +4). If no one else can see through it, Sareth himself will open the door "Stand back everyone. If this is trapped I'll have no idea until I accidentally set it off.

In the hallway, Sareth's example is able to guide Grimnir and Radiant past the illusion. Neither of them notice any sounds from beyond the door. Opening it, you all are hit with an aroma of burnt flesh. The walls are slightly cracked and in several places even seem to bow outward as though pushed apart by a powerful force. Additionally, there appear to be faint outlines on the ground with patches of powder, though time has eroded whatever it was before to be indecipherable.
Knowledge Arcana check since I can't do nested spoilers.
A door leads out to the east in the southern portion of the room.
To Iacobus, "If the whole of this place you wish to explore you would be wise for my help to implore. I will aid you to discover the secrets of the past held within this sanctum vast." With that, the sphinx rises and awaits to follow you.
