Malph Rumlinger |
Malph flinches at the banging and noises caused by the other explorers. He returns to the others after watching the trapdoor for a period of time to see if anything comes out.
In a low voice, "There's a trapdoor behind the grating. The wall looks like it's about to fall over here." Malph pats the wall through which lies the end of the hallway. "A solid push from one of you bigger fellows should knock a hole for you to get through. If anyone else is interested, I can keep a lookout from the other side of the room while you all try this way in."
Alassa Vaenar |
Alassa says, "There is a desk in this room. It might be worth a search for clues or something of use."
Alassa goes over to the desk to search it. She looks for traps first
Trap Check: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (13) + 2 = 15
If she sees no traps she does a through search of the desk to see if anything is on or inside of it, opening drawers and such.
Alyksandrei |
sorry for the delay!
Matsudaira scrambles up the post, grabs the object, and climbs back down. It appears to be a ring of some sort. Anyone want to inspect, appraise, or otherwise examine it?
Alassa finds no traps, only more dusty, mildewed papers. The strange occurrences continue: floating objects, strange noises without apparent sources, doors opening and closing themselves, etc.
As Malph pats the wall, mortar dust falls to the ground. A moment later, a brick crashes to the debris pile near the hole.
Matsudaira |
I do not have the appraise skill but would like to examine my find. What does it look like and is there anything out of teh ordinary about it. Perception check?
Perception on Ring: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (9) + 6 = 15
Malph Rumlinger |
"Oh, that was easier than I thought."
Malph carefully knocks the wall over a few bricks at a time, watching for bricks falling from above to avoid getting hit. After he clears a hole big enough for everyone else, he returns to the party.
"Hi everyone, I found a trapdoor, but I'm not terribly keen on entering alone. Anything on the other side probably heard me already. Anyone else want to come? It's just past this archway I just constructed."
Malph points to the broken wall as one last loose brick falls into the debris pile.
Alassa Vaenar |
Alassa finding nothing of interest gives a curious look to the flying objects, suspecting more magical trickery rather than actual ghosts. She then leaves the office and says, "There is nothing of interest in that desk. We will have to look elsewhere it seems."
When hearing of the trapdoor, Alassa says, "We should investigate the trap door as if one exists it may lead to the lower levels we saw through the grate."
Viviana the Reborn |
Viviana grunts and starts towards the trapdoor, drawing her sword again and carefully watching ahead of her as she goes forward through the broken wall.
Alyksandrei |
I probably didn't make it clear, but to get to the broken section of wall you need to go outside. It's at the opposite end of the short corridor from the locked grate you couldn't open. Malph, as a Small-sized creature, was able to squeeze through the opening in the grate, but a Medium-sized creature wouldn't be able to make it.
Malph Rumlinger |
Haha, oh. I didn't realize that.
Having knocked a hole in the wall, Malph exits the stable and circles around the building. He knocks on the now shut door and tries to pull it open.
Does it move?
"Hello in there, I have found another door!"
Malph Rumlinger |
As Malph hears the others talking about recent spoils (to his ears), he suddenly stops calling to the others. Maybe he should take a look in the trapdoor first, he thought. Spoils might be on just the other side.
Though usually hesitant to put himself at personal risk, curiosity was starting to get the better of him. I can come back to get these guys after I clear out some things, the little gnome thought.
Malph returns again to the trapdoor and slowly opens it, watching for traps.
Perception: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 2 = 10
Assuming nothing jumps out at him, he slips in as stealthily as possible.
Stealth: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (14) + 10 = 24
Do I see anything near the door?
Alyksandrei |
By the time everyone else gets to the trapdoor I'm assuming you all head over there, having heard Malph calling; or perhaps someone saw the newly-enlarged hole in the far wall, Malph has disappeared into the darkness.
Malph Rumlinger |
I take a 10 on that to ensure a safe fall (+2 from Dexterity only).
Hearing the laughter, Malph draws out the silver dagger. Spooks, here I come, he thinks to himself. Malph hesitates to venture farther into the darkness without light, but he doesn't want to negate his stealthy entrance.
As he debates with himself, Matsudaira approaches the trapdoor with the sunrod. Malph pushes as far forward into the receding darkness as he can, while sticking to the less deep shadows.
Alyksandrei |
It's important to me that you only look at the spoilers with your name on them for this post. But I can't really stop you from peeking, now can I?

Viviana the Reborn |
Viviana summons her magic and imbues her sword with magical enhancement, steeling herself to battle whatever is ahead. So, magic weapon on my longsword.
Alyksandrei |
Oops, I might have forgotten about lighting. Doesn't Matsudaira have the sunrod with him? That would change the descriptions of what you find...
@Matsudaira - If you have a light source (or left it glowing up by the opening), you should be able to take a proper Action. I think Viviana's spell took at least a Move Action, leaving her out of Actions for the surprise round (but correct me if I'm wrong), so as long as you aren't using a Martial Maneuver (such as those from 3.5's Tome of Battle) that takes a Move Action or longer to achieve, you should be able to do something more than just drop into a combat-ready stance. Unless that's all you really want to do.
Matsudaira |
I have the sunrod. How many creatures are there and how close are they to me?
Matsudaira launches a flurry of unarmed blows at the nearest creature.
flurry attack 1: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 2 = 12
flurry attack 2: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8

attack damage: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7

Matsudaira punches (kicks?) the nearest creature, which turns out to be an oversized rat.

Malph Rumlinger |
Malph dashes out of the shadows up behind the rats attacking his new friends. Well, I'm glad someone came after me, he thought. He stabs at a rat with the oversized dagger in his hand.
Attack: 1d20 ⇒ 18 +2 if successful flanking
Damage: 1d4 ⇒ 1
Sneak: 1d6 ⇒ 6 if successful flanking
Matsudaira |
Seeing a rat advancing toward him at speed, Matsudaira throws couple of kicks in its direction.

Flurry attack 2 damage: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4
Gilen Reidford |
Gilen finishes smashing the splinters out of the floating furniture long enough to hear the sounds of combat and follows after his comrades, more or less oblivious to anything and everything in his path.
