Galinndan and Cyrus combine to finish off the death dog but the enemies keep approaching and firing! The ettin rushes forward to close the distance while the derro move forward, bobbing, weaving, and cackling in no discernible pattern. Crossbow bolts fly while the derro in the back unleashes a blast of energy.

GM screen:

Oh yeah you're not required to come up with a joke. I saw it as a flavor opportunity. It's always more fun to flavor up spells and attacks. It doesn't take much to make an ettin lose it and start laughing, especially when magic makes them do it. "The dwarf smells better than you!" is always a classic.

Galenus winds up to throw the flask of volatile liquid but just as he's about to release it, he hears Irdril's warning not to damage the Ettin. He tries to stop his throw but it's too late! It flies wide and lands with a sizzling splash in the pit. A bit of smoke comes up along with a really unpleasant burning odor...

Cyrus manages to lift a morning star and a battleaxe, each bigger than himself, one after the other, and heave them into the pit. The laughing ettin tries feebly to keep a hold on them but pays little attention to what is happening.

Oh boy guys... this is an unlucky turn...

The ettin begins glowing quite nicely. You've never seen an ettin that would be easier to stab. The Derro, however, decide to help out their massive ally and surge forward, scattering bolts all over the cavern. But this time, they manage to land almost all of their shots. As Eddrikk is the closest, three shafts hit him while one misses (13 damage) and two hit Cyrus (11). The leader in the back raises her bluish-grayish hand and Eddrikk feels something clawing at his mind. He pushes it away with a snort of derision, only to find he can't snort. He can't move. He can't blink.

It's just then that the ettin stops laughing. She begins to get up from her position, grasping around to try to feel for her weapons.

DC 12 arcana:

Eddrikk is under the effect of a hold person spell. He won't be able to move until his mind breaks free or the caster's concentration is broken by damage. In the mean time, he'll be extremely vulnerable to attacks.

Everybody, GO!! Eddrikk, you can repeat the wisdom save on the end of each of your turns. DC 13. Go ahead and roll the save. Whether you succeed or fail, I'll resole the order of PC actions in the most helpful way possible.

Since the Ettin is done laughing, I'll toss an alchemical fire on him.

I forgot a concentration roll for Cyrus' hit on the caster.

Cyrus' arrow draws a scream of pain from the derro spellcaster, causing her to loose her mental grip on Eddrikk.

The ettin growls in pain but doesn't look like she's about to keel over.

Eddrikk, you can still go. You still have the bardic inspiration from Irdril too, worth a +6 to something. You can keep it for up to a minute and add it to a roll after seeing the roll.


Irdril has the gnomes use there 1/day ability on the giant.

Irdril, you can do a bonus action before an action, afaik, unless the action grants the bonus action. So you could magic stone the ettin before casting hideous laughter on it. I'm going to assume that you did in my accounting of the damage dealt to her.

Eddrikk, don't forget you have Irdril's inspiration die. You could have added it to that attack roll if you wanted.

Eddrikk cuts hard into a derro, leaving it barely standing on its feet. It cries in pain and they prepare to attack him again as he is right up in their ranks! They pepper him with a volley of shots (21 damage) and the spellcaster in the back fires a blast of energy that misses him. You've been unsure as to the spellcaster identity up until now due to the crazy hair and maniacal laughter but now you're pretty certain it's a male derro.

The twins weave through the ettin's feet but the massive creature stands firm on her incredibly thick legs. She swings a fist each at Galinndan and Kanzen striking both of them (6 damage each) while she keeps burning.

That would have been 4d8+5 (crit) and 2d8+5 if Cyrus hadn't thrown her weapons away... She also doesn't get to add her proficiency bonus to attack rolls but that didn't matter when she rolled 20 and 19... EVERYONE GO!!!

Until the spell ends, the target also has advantage on 5trength checks and 5trength saving throws. The target's weapons also grow to match its new size. While these weapons are enlarged, the target's attacks with them deal ld4 extra damage.

Irdril fires a blast at the heavily injured Derro and then heals Eddrikk as her bonus action.

She directs Topsy/Turvy to use their 1/minute ability granting advantage vs the next attack on the giant.
