Galinndan remains on the ground, unless someone intervenes first...
Death Saves: 4d20 ⇒ (7, 15, 3, 8) = 33
Galenus
Galenus got distracted by the obelisk.
Oh, crap! Gallindrin! Galenus rushes over to pour a healing potion down his throat.
2d4 + 2 ⇒ (1, 4) + 2 = 7
I've got one of these left.
Galinndan Siannodel
Cheers! Dying did not, in fact, tickle...
Galinndan wakes, groaning softly.
"Damned derro...we survived, at least."
He picks himself up.
"My thanks, Galenus."
Assuming folk catch Galinndan up to speed
"I think we can wait ten minutes for Galenus to gauge this obelisk. We may learn something useful."
caster4life
Galenus determines that touching the obelisk while casting a spell could teleport you all... Somewhere?
Galinndan Siannodel
"Now that is interesting. A means to enter an enemy fortification? A way to the surface, with that shilmaer in hand? Can we pin down what spell and destination?"
Irdril Tinúviel
1 person marked this as a favorite.
"We might wanna get back with the information to fix the cursed giant and rest before potentially being teleported to some random location."
Irdril uses the Stonespeaker Crystal to cast Speak with Dead on the Derro Wizard.
What was the Dragon Egg going to be used for?
What is this Obelisk?
Where does it take you?
Who is your master?
Who are you?
She also heals Galinndan some more.
Cure: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9
caster4life
Pliinki, the derro savant, laughs at you spitefully. She believes the obelisk was hidden here by Diirinka, the derro god, and that it contains “unimaginable power.” Pliinki and her fellow savants hope to harness the obelisk’s power and use it to conquer Gracklstugh. "No one is my master but Demogorgon! And I will never tell you anything more!"
Per the spell description, she certainly recognizes you as an enemy and doesn't feel a need to be particularly helpful. But there's some information there. Good idea, Irdril.
Galenus
Well, it could be a potential way out of the Underdark.
Galinndan Siannodel
"My thanks, Idril. Perhaps the giants could help us find out how the obelisk works. Better than blind chance surely."

You hear pattering of feet behind you and turn to see slobbering, disgusting creatures bursting upon you. Veterans fighters by now, you draw your weapons quickly. But the horrible visages of the creatures sap at your minds. Eddrikk stands stunned, unable to move or do anything else.
I had to roll the saves so I could tell you the effects and describe what is going on. Cyrus, Eddrikk, and Galinndan gain a level of madness. Track this under conditions.
You experience vivid hallucinations. Dragons swirl all around you, attacking you and your friends.
Disadvantage on ability checks for a few minutes but you see through the hallucinations enough to still fight.
Suddenly you see enemies all around you!
You must attack the nearest creature every turn. It's up to you how hard you attack.
Map updated. PCs GO! Sorry Eddrikk... your madness was the worst as a player to suffer...
Galinndan Siannodel
Ouch for Eddrick! And whatever about Cyrus, Galinndan has one normal tactic when surrounded by enemies...
Galinndan is shocked to be surrounded but he does not hesitate to strike!

Galinndan slashes hard into Kanzen, landing two heavy blows. The wood elf looks very disoriented.
16 damage to Kanzen.
Cyrus Darkwater
"Have ye gone mad?" Cyrus shouts at the wood elf before trying to push him away from the party.

Galinndan Siannodel
Galinndan starts shouting, and struggling furiously against his would-be captor.
"You won't take me without a fight! What did you do with the others!?"
Will roll when appropriate
caster4life
They are dretches. Irdril knows their abilities.
Irdril kills one of the disgusting creatures from distance!
Galinndan can roll acrobatics against the shove and the grapple. Kanzen still to go as Eddrikk is unfortunately incapacitated.
Kanzen Millithor
Kanzen rolls away from Galinndan's attacks, grunting in pain, his blood staining the rocks. Seeing Galenus deal with the wood elf, Kanzen draws an arrow and fires at one of the creatures.
Pretty sure none are wounded, so whichever one.
Long bow: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (20) + 5 = 25

caster4life
Wis save: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (6) + 0 = 6
Trying to resolve Galenus and Cyrus' actions as compatible.
Galenus grabs Galinndan and Cyrus shoves him to the ground mightily.
Galinndan is prone and can't stand up without breaking the grapple.
The dretches rush forward and attempt to start clambering up the sloping sides of the hill. Suddenly, an odd bat-like creature appears next to Kanzen, terrifying him!
Kanzen is scared by a quasit! Party, GO!
The bat-like creature is a quasit. You know it's abilities.
Galinndan Siannodel
"Unhand me!", yells Galinndan as he continues to struggle.
Athletics: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5
However, his slender frame can only struggle so much.
Galenus
Not until you get ahold of yourself! Snap out of it! Galenus yells at Gallindrin, even as he continues to hold him down.
Athletics: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8
Thank you stats and training!

Cyrus takes aim at the advancing abominations.
Kanzen Millithor
Just checking, am I still to go this round...?
caster4life
Huh. You're right Kanzen. Somehow, I missed that you could go. But don't forget you're frightened by the quasit! Go ahead and go twice now.
Cyrus launches a shaft into the approaching demon, who grunts hellishly in pain. The demon begins ascending the mesa while the flying bat like creature flies forward and bites at Kanzen!

Con save: 1d20 ⇒ 10

Kanzen is bitten (5 damage) but manages to shake off the creature's poison. The dretch climbing the mesa gets closer and soon Irdril, Kanzen, and Cyrus are all hacking and coughing at the stench of it! The tiefling and the drow manage to shake off the scent but the goblin, the one most likely inured to such odors (besides the dwarf), succumbs!
Cyrus is poisoned until the start of his next turn. In addition, he can take an action or a bonus action but not both and no reactions. Party, GO!
caster4life
Irdril leaves the last dretch barely hanging on for dear life while the flying bat-like creature hasn't been attacked yet.
Cyrus Darkwater
Attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (6) + 5 = 11
Disadvantage: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (6) + 5 = 11
"Understatement of de century." Cyrus fights his urge to retch while firing at the strange creature.
Galenus
You done yet?! Galenus hollars into Gallindrin's ear as they continue to wrestle.
Athletics: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (11) + 5 = 16
Kanzen Millithor
Kanzen drops his bow, quickly drawing one of his blades, and takes a terrified swing at the evil-looking creature floating around him! Last round, free to drop the bow, interact object to draw one sword, then action to attack? That work?
Short sword: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 5 = 9
However, the drow is obviously so scared that he can't focus his mind well enough to land the strike! Desperate, he then draws his second sword and swings twice more.

caster4life
Galinndan struggles again
Acrobatics: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (16) + 3 = 19
He breaks free from Galenus' grip and readies to strike out again!
Galenus, just fyi it doesn't take an action to maintain a grapple in 5e. It's automatically maintained until the grappled creature makes an opposed roll to break out.
Quasit attack: 1d20 ⇒ 13

Con saves: 3d20 ⇒ (1, 11, 19) = 31
Kanzen misses the quasit, who bites him again (6 damage)! The dretch finishes climbing up the mesa and bites Irdril (4 damage) but misses her with its claw. Irdril and Kanzen manage to shake off the stench again but Cyrus just can't handle it!
Party, GO!
Kanzen Millithor
That attack roll of 24 didn't hit the quasit...? If that's the case, something fishy's going on! Oh, and also, I'm down... but that stench doesn't bother me!
caster4life
Kanzen, you're attacking with disadvantage against the source of your fear. You got a 12 to hit. I read the second attack as the disadvantage roll but I see now.
Kanzen, second attack disadvantage roll: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 5 = 9
So yes, it missed. But it missed via the correct process now. Death saves for Kanzen.
Kanzen Millithor
Ah right, wasn't aware I had disadvantage, makes sense now.
Death save: 1d20 ⇒ 8
Galinndan Siannodel
"Raaaarrgh!", Galinndan incoherently yells, eager to free himself from this monstrous foe!
Athletics: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (16) + 0 = 16
caster4life
Galinndan, you broke free last round when I botted you as I used your best skill to do so, acrobatics. ;) You should attack this round.
Galinndan Siannodel
Ah, I missed that!
Galinndan launches himself at his would-be captor! Vaguely, he hears mockery from foul maw:
"I am *not* finished, foul ones!" , he yells as he slashes.
Short Sword: 1d20 + 3 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 3 + 2 + 1 = 11

You best stop this madness, son, Galenus says, his armor taking the brunt of the force.
Full defense, which I think grants him disadvantage to attacks.
caster4life
Galinndan disadvantage dagger: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (6) + 5 = 11
Galenus' dodging manages to turn the dagger blow aside.
Cyrus still to go. Irdril requested to be botted and Eddrikk is sadly to insane to help right now... Sorry Eddrikk...
Cyrus Darkwater
Cure Wounds: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8
Bonus: Disengage
Cyrus slips past the enemy to heal Kanzen.
