Attack:

The moment the gong is struck Orth Maul looses 2 Arrows from rapid shot.

The 1st is a Phenromone Arrow
Hit: 1d20 + 11 - 2 ⇒ (16) + 11 - 2 = 25
Dam: 1d8 + 6 ⇒ (7) + 6 = 13

please add 1 extra dam if within 30 feet(point blank). I don't know the distant

As the 1st arrow strikes the Devil is releasing strong aromas that most predators recognize as tasty injured prey. Orth Maul eyes fixate on the devil and he smiles as he looses a 2nd common Arrow .

Hit: 1d20 + 11 - 2 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 11 - 2 + 2 = 17
Dam: 1d8 + 6 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 6 + 2 = 15

There was a moment of stunned silence in the room as the now headless devil corpse wavered briefly, then fell to the ground, its dark blood spurting out in ever weaker gushes.

As one, the entire Order stood up, rigidly at attention.

In the entire history of the Hellknights, only seven people had ever flawlessly defeated their devil. Their names were burned into the mind of every Armiger, as a model to follow and an example to aspire to.

"ARMIGER CALE! ORDER OF THE GODCLAW! PERFECTED HIS DISCIPLINE WITH A DIVINE PRAYER!"

Cale had been a half-elven cleric of the Godclaw and one of the first in that order. He had torn his devil apart with two claws that seemed to be made of light itself.

"ARMIGER JACK! ORDER OF THE NAIL! PERFECTED HIS DISCIPLINE WITH AN ARCANE SPELL!"

Jack was an impressively powerful arcanist, his family being able to trace their arcane lineage all the way back to their Azlanti roots. He was often said to be magic incarnate, and proved it when he completely disintegrated his devil with a single spell.

"ARMIGER ZACHARIAH! ORDER OF THE NAIL! PERFECTED HIS DISCIPLINE WITH A DIVINE PRAYER!"

Zachariah was a mysterious oread, who had caused the earth to reach up and grind his devil into nothingness.

"ARMIGER SARAH! ORDER OF THE NAIL! PERFECTED HER DISCIPLINE WITH AN ARCANE SPELL!"

Sarah had been an obscenely powerful winter witch, driven from her home in the north for unknown reasons. She had frozen her devil solid, and then shattered it to pieces with a simple snap of her fingers, this action earning her the nickname Shiva.

"ARMIGER VILKAS! ORDER OF THE PYRE! PERFECTED HIS DISCIPLINE WITH A DIVINE PRAYER!"

Vilkas had been a sadistic interrogator and a less than subtle worshiper of Zon-Kuthon. His fight had left his devil torn open to the bone. It is a note of irony that he had been in the Order of the Pyre, as he was later burned at the stake by family members of the many shamans and druids he had captured.

"ARMIGER MALACHI! ORDER OF THE SCOURGE! PERFECTED HIS DISCIPLINE WITH A MIGHTY BLADE!"

Malachi was the currently rather famous and extremely temperamental paladin of Ragathiel. Said by many to be almost entirely unstoppable once he decided that a target was guilty, he is also the only Hellknight to have flawlessly defeated his devil with no magic whatsoever.

ARMIGER GIORDANO! ORDER OF THE GATE! PERFECTED HIS DISCIPLINE WITH AN UNKNOWN POWER!"

The Hellknights voices rang with a noticeable amount of pride as they shouted this name. Giordano, who is now the current Vicarius of the Order of the Gate, defeated his devil with nothing more than an inaudible whisper and a wave of his hand. The wards around the Pit were overloaded, and the flash from the blast blinded everyone in the room. When the onlooking Hellknights has finally been able to look again, the Pit was conspicuously empty, with the new Hellknight sitting in the victors row, as if nothing untoward had happened. None watching had been able to discern how he had done it, or even discover if it had been an arcane or divine power.

The entire room took a breath as one, and as one shouted.

"ARMIGER KAYLE! ORDER OF THE GATE! PERFECTED HER DISCIPLINE WITH A MIGHTY BLADE!"

The room exploded into cheers, the Hellknights chanting Kayle's name until long after she had taken her seat.

Oh man you don't know how excited I am that happened. Take note of some of this backstory, as you may encounter it again in the future... ;) Also: extreme congrats to Kayle there, level up and enjoy your apparently unnecessary respite.

Sectty:
Your blade swings down, seeking the devils flesh, but it gets its glaive in the way just in time. The blow knocks the blade out of its hands though, causing it to come at you with its claws instead.

Claw attack #1: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (4) + 10 = 14
Claw attack #2: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (4) + 10 = 14

It is futile though, the talons skittering uselessly off of your armor.

Sildred:
Ok, I just didn't want to mess up any strategy you might have been planning or something.

Attack of Opportunity: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (15) + 11 = 26
Damage: 1d10 + 6 ⇒ (4) + 6 = 10

The devil strikes you as you backpedal to cast your spell. For a brief moment the devils eyes lose focus on your, glazing over, but then it shakes itself out of it and charges again, irritated.

Charge attack: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (5) + 13 = 18

Perhaps though the spell still offered some protection, as the charge is clumsy and slow, allowing you to dodge it.

M Human Male Elf Magus Blade Bound Hexcrafter 3 | HP 30/30 | AC 12 | Fort +5| Ref +3 | Will +3 | Init +2 | Perception +4

Ok, my bad, using hero lab, it's all alphabetical so I don't always note the source of the spells. So I switched potent weapon for life conduit(UM I believe, and would have cast that instead.) and I switched summarize for arcane mark.
The devils initial charge still wouldn't have hit me and the following critical hit from Giles would have been 2d6+13 x2 so 4d6+23 with an addiotnal 2d6 from potent weapon is where I got the initial 6d6. Would you like me to roll that damage again?

Orth Maul:
The pungent arrow sinks into the devils hide, marking it. Your eyes dilate slightly and you begin to drool, the slight distraction causing your second arrow to skid off armor instead of piercing flesh. The devil roars and charges.

Charge attack: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (14) + 13 = 27
Damage: 1d10 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 6 = 9

The blade sinks into you, then rips back out again, your wound bleeding heavily.

2 bleed damage from Infernal Wound

Azin:
No worries, I didn't catch it either =P Yes, please roll damage again. Sorry for the trouble.

@SOLDIER: The bleed damage will take me to -2 at the beginning of my turn, yes. Can I have the chance to see if my dinosaur can take out the devil? It might not be a strong win, but that would still be a win, yes?

If so::

Vesuvius snarles at the devil, taking one last bite to avenge his master!
Bite: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (2) + 7 = 9
Damage: 1d8 + 9 ⇒ (8) + 9 = 17
But he misses terribly, the falling of his master distracting him too much for a decent attack!

In either case:
Embry's eyes roll into the back of his head as his blood seeps onto the ground, and he passes out.

You moved out of the devils threat range. Remember, a glaive is a reach weapon, so it's got 10' instead of 5'. That's why I asked, just to make sure =P

By the way, if you would like I can put together I quick pit map for the hellknights aspirants to use.

Azin:
The devil gasps, a sound few have ever heard. It almost falls, but catches itself on its glaive. A look of desperation enters its eyes, and it skirts around Giles, knowing that victory over the beings summoner is its only key to survival.

Attack of Opportunity: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (12) + 7 = 19
Damage: 2d6 + 13 ⇒ (1, 4) + 13 = 18

Devil attack: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (14) + 11 = 25
Damage: 1d10 + 6 ⇒ (2) + 6 = 8

The devil runs up to you, heedless of its wounds, and attacks, but its strike is weak.

2 bleed damage from Infernal Wound

Embry:
Both devils turn their full attention on the furious dinosaur, malice displayed in every motion.

Devil S Full attack #1: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (2) + 11 = 13
Devil S Full attack #2: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (17) + 6 = 23
Damage: 1d10 + 6 ⇒ (2) + 6 = 8

While the dinosaur is distracted, the other devil joins in.

Devil O Full attack #1: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (18) + 11 = 29
Damage: 1d10 + 6 ⇒ (2) + 6 = 8
Devil O Full attack #2: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 6 = 9

Elijah:
Sorry, got really wrapped up in some of the other fights and almost forgot about you! Didn't mean to leave you hanging like that.

The devil turns at the unfortunate sound and grins evilly. It readies its glaive and charges again.

Charge attack: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (3) + 13 = 16

You deftly sidestep the charge, hoping against hope that your luck continues to hold.

Sectty:
Do you have a program or something you use? I don't think it'll be particularly needed for this, it's literally just a 60 foot diameter circle, but in future areas I might need a map.

Once again the devil just barely dodges the blade, the weapon scraping loudly against its armor.

Claw attack #1: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (10) + 10 = 20
Claw attack #2: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (7) + 10 = 17

Again the devil tries to rend you, and again its efforts prove useless.

Not really. There is usually a map already available for any kind of situation, like this one, for instance, and then you can just throw it in google drawings, at tokens and you're done. Pretty simple, really, and the result is something like this. But if you want a custom map, there are many options for you to use.

Sectty realizes the creature is pretty useless with only its claws, and recognizes he's at least a bit lucky for having knocked the monster's glaive aside, although it would usually drop it anyway. He keeps the attacking, but the swings are not in their best performance.

Yes, that's because of power attack, with a two-handed weapon. -2 to attack, +6 to damage, but Furious Focus prevents the first attack in the round from receiving the penalty, although the AoO would still benefit from the damage bonus and be penalized by the minus, as Power attack. So it would be 18 to hit (which does not hit, does it?), and 2d6+13 to damage. That's the third time my weapon misses from not being of masterwork quality, is it not?
And please stop rolling 20s against me ^_^

Sectty smirks back, showing a smile that almost reach his ears. Infernal "Niiiice move!" He draws another Greatsword from his back, but this one seems nothing like the other one. It's a finely made blade, with no dents or scratches whatsoever, and its metal seems to reflect a blue radiance, instead of the usual silvery reflection of common steel. It makes up an awkward scene, both creatures wielding the same weapon, but still completely different. Infernal "Let's see how good you are with that one!"

And the fighter gives no space to the creature, swinging his masterwork weapon at the devils left side, confident is the weapon's ability to cut through every defense it may have!

Maeve had been watching, both dreading and anticipating her turn. Today had been an interesting day, a flawless victory and the death of an initiate.

She hadn't known Vesuvius very well, only having recently met him in one of her classes. The path of a Hellknight was not an easy path to follow, and she hoped that she could only learn from his mistakes.

Having witnessed the wards on the arena, Maeve grumbles about the handicap it represents to those like her that rely heavily on their spell casting ability. She considers methods of working around the dispelling effect.

know:arcana: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (1) + 12 = 13

There's symbols of dispelling all around the ring of the Pit. Hellknights and paranoia go hand in hand =P Trust me though, any handicaps here will be MORE than made up for once you get in. One of the benefits of being a full caster in the one order dedicated to magic ;)

You rack your brain, but nothing in particular comes to mind. Given the strength and number of the spells surrounding the Pit, it would take a much more powerful wizard than you some time to begin unraveling the wardings.

Devil init: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (12) + 6 = 18

You recognize the devil as a bearded devil, or more technically known as a Barbazu. Barbazus are fond of making charge attacks with their glaives, and try to maintain a 10-foot gap between themselves and their foes so they can use their signature polearms to great effect. Against a foe that has greater reach (or one able to otherwise avoid the devil’s favored tactic), they drop their glaives and resort to their claws and hideous beards.

Your arrow flies true and pierces the devils hide. It looks down at the projectile and snorts in derision, ripping it out without flinching and then charging towards you.

Charge attack: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (15) + 13 = 28
Damage: 1d10 + 6 ⇒ (6) + 6 = 12

The glaive slashes into you, blood pouring from the wound. The devil inhales, breathing in the coppery scent of your blood.

Scream for me little aasimar. I can smell your fallen ancestor in your blood. Think you that you should fare better? the devil gloats into your mind.

2 bleed damage from Infernal Wound

Are there multiple arenas? Or are the combats not happening at the same time? Is anyone keeping the map updated?

Maeve drops the bow and draws her scimitar as she steps forward, closing in on the devil. She swings the scimitar in an arc from waist to shoulder, unfortunately her swing slides along the shaft of the glaive.

scimitar: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (12) + 4 = 16

Feel free to shout suggestions. With a forced melee range arena, I don't see this going well. My attacks do on average half what the demon's will do. My magic is not likely to succeed, and I can only take 2-3 more hits like that.

I expect that I will have to reroll a character that is pure combat and not support to win this.

The fights are one after the other, not at the same time. And the map was just mine to test another player suggestion, not legit for the combat, and a record for me of the players and their classes once they achieve the victory, and a little tribute to those that not. Feel free to use it though

Advise: try to rise up defenses like mirror image (buff), debuff and go for the kill?

I know its late, but straight wiz5 is better strategy with this combat in mind. You will be able to take fighter in the next 2 levels if intended.

Maeve, i think you Bert option is to use your mirror image and then summon monster II for something with hp like a hell hound. Use the rounds with that as a distraction to load up on your other effects like glitter dust and then use gravity bow to whittle away damage while the devil mores trough your effects.

The orc stretches his long arms out, sinewy muscles bulging and straining. Two arrows fly, thudding straight through the devils heart. It gives a final, feral growl, and slumps to the ground, finally dead.

And with that, a first had happened. Never before had an orc ever become a Hellknight. Only a very very few half-orcs had ever even managed it. All those who had naysayed the Vicarius (and there were many, even if they were very, very quiet), now sat back in astonishment. That a primitive, barbaric orc had gained the rank that most men could only dream about. It bore consideration.

A cleric comes over, healing Orth and guiding him over to sit with the rest of the victors. Though his face was invisible, all could see that the Vicarius tracked the orcs progress intensely. Finally he nodded and turned his mask back to the Pit.

Congrats to Orth Maul! Level up and enjoy your victory.

Elijah:
You moved from threat range to not in threat range. That provokes an AoO. If you had stepped towards him, you'd be safe(er), but stepping away is going to provoke unless you 5foot. Would you like to change your action?
