Elise manages to find a side door that she enters the apartment building through. The unit you are looking for is on the third floor. It should be easy to get to, but you can hear soldiers talking down the hallways. You will have to move fast.

I don't know how long I've got, so Elise will quickly make for the steps and head straight up.

The Soviet soldier says nothing other than to nod to Smith and head back to his guard post. He says a couple of things the the other soldier he is with, but they then return to guard duty.

Elise quickly climbs the steps, her athletic training carrying her several steps at a time. She moves to the third floor in decent time so as the wandering patrols miss her, but just down the hallway, she can see two soldiers in front of the door she needs to get into. They don't see her yet....

Smith will dip into an alley and then try to put himself in a place where he can cover Elise when she tries to exfiltrate the area.


Elise checks the corridor for any way to distract the men, without exposing herself.

What's the layout, can Elise see any way of getting to the door without guys noticing, or taking an undue amount of time?
Alternatively can I duck out of sight into the stairwell and get one of them to come to me, so I can knife/subdue him?

Think of being at the end of a long hallway with doors on either side, the hallway itself is about 8 ft wide, so unless you find a way to cross between apartments or walk through walls, you would have to draw their attention. At the very end of this hallway is another stairwell and a window.

Elise's blade cuts cleanly across the second soldier's wrist and then his throat. He slumps to the ground with little fanfare. Both men lie still.

Outside, as Macomb circles back, both he and Smith notice a black car, similar to the one they lost earlier pull up beside the Russian troop truck. Two men in suits step out of the back and start speaking with the soldiers.

Elise takes a second to take a breath, surprised she managed to kill them so cleanly with barely any noise. She then quietly taps on the door before trying to open it.

Smith looks at the men outside and doesn't recognize them immediately. They aren't wearing any identifying lapel pins and their suits seem generic. They continue to talk to the soldiers outside...

Elise puts her weapon away and opens the door slowly, "I am not here to hurt you, we've come to get you out of here."

Elise enters the apartment. It's decorated sparsely and has few things that make it personal. As she enters the main living area, a still smoldering cigarette in an ugly ashtray tell her that someone is here. She hears a muffled voice coming from the bedroom and another whispered one trying to hush it.

Elise closes the door most of the way, but leaves it open a crack, hopefully she'll be able to hear if soldier's boots start approaching.

She approaches the bedroom "ma'am, I'm here to help" Maybe someone who could actually speak russian would have been helpful here?

A Russian woman, probably mid-thirties, with dirty blonde hair and a disheveled look about her is holding a little girl close to her. Both of them keep looking between Elise's eyes and the knife in her hand. They say nothing as they huddle close together. Elise spots a dry blood stain on the lower half of the woman's day dress.

Outside, Smith watces as the two men in suits finish the conversation with the soldiers and head inside the building.

Elise tucks her knife away raises her hands palms out in a hopefully calming gesture, she keeps talking, trying to focus more on the tone of her voice than the actual words. Trying to remember her advice and training for dealing with vulnerable patients.

Some Charisma Skill (untrained): 1d20 ⇒ 14

Also without actually reaching over and examining her, she will note the womans stance and breathing and try and assess her for injury.

Finally, unless the woman seems to be in immediate need of medical aid she'll take a look around for a window and take a peek, see if the situation outside has changed at all.

The soldiers remain outside. You estimate about 5 minutes before the two suits reach Elise.

Elise's gestures seem to calm the woman slightly. Elise being female seems to help. Their don't seem to be any external wounds other than a couple of bruises on her arms, however her skittish stance tells you she may have been attacked in other ways. The girl seems unharmed, probably about six years old and scared. A quick glance down at the street shows you that a black car is parked outside and the troop truck is still there. You can also see your van just down the street.

I assume I hear the shot being currently stood a the window and all, we're 3rd floor right(I assume that's US not Brit version of 3rd floor)

Presuming soldiers are going to be distracted by shooting, and not watching the windows, does it appear reasonable to climb down from the window in any way? At the risk of stereotype, bedsheets and duct tape to climb down

Trying to make sense of what just happened, Macomb holds for the moment, drawing his weapon, but keeping his head down. Majors looks at him as he draws a pistol. "Now what?"

I just recalled that 3 round burst only needs one roll, but either way, it still hit the soldier with 2 hits for 10 and then 9 damage with armor.

Smith's next burst hits one of the soldiers and though his vest slows the bullets, it still puts him down, forcing him to crawl away.

Elise heads for the staircase, spares a glance upwards to try and ascertain if anyone's coming from that way, before heading downwards.

She'll try and keep the woman and her daughter following about 5 foot or so behind her, but without a common language she'll take what she can get.

Macomb's weapon jams and he works feverishly to clear it. Majors peeks out a window, takes aim and fires at the soldier by the truck but only manages to shoot one of the mirrors out.

Smith peeks around from his 1/2 cover and fires another burst towards the suit that is standing by the entrance. The suit quickly regrets standing up to shoot as all of Smith's burst tears into him, spinning his body around before it flattens against the wall.

Elise quickly brings her weapon to bear and snaps off a shot that seems to stun him more than anything. He returns fire a second later, sending the other two females for cover, putting their hands over their heads and ears and a few bullets tear apart the wall near Elise. He is apparently not used to shooting at this close of a range.

Macomb frantically clears his pistol muttering to himself as he does so.
Once cleared he runs towards a closer firing position before squeezing off a shot at the retreating soldier.

PPK Attack: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (7) + 7 = 14
Damage: 1d8 + 2 + 1d4 ⇒ (2) + 2 + (1) = 5

Macomb will move 30' as a standard action triggering his mobile offense feat allowing a final attack. Not sure what range that would put soldier #1 at so apply modifiers as required PPK range is 15.

Elise takes another shot, but at this range, it's difficult to hit with a rifle. The second one hits home, but the man's vest seems to absorb the 7.62mm round easily. He grunts as he steps in and attack Elise with the butt end of his weapon. She is able to quickly bring up her own rifle to block his strikes. "Здесь! Они здесь!" Elise can hear soldiers down the steps...

Macomb quickly gets out of the van and starts firing on the move and manages to get the soldier's attention away from Smith. Smith's burst hits him square in the side, and he winces in pain, but still takes a shot at Mac before retreating further towards the side of the building, taking cover by a low garden wall. His shot slams into Mac's chest..

Mac takes the round from the soldier straight to his chest luckily his armor stops him from losing any blood but that will leave one helluva bruise.
The shot didn't stop Mac as he continued to close the distance between him and his shooter. After getting with 15' Mac squeeze the trigger twice quickly on his pistol.

Attack1: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (12) + 7 = 19
Dam: 1d8 + 2 + 1d4 ⇒ (8) + 2 + (4) = 14
Attack1: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (6) + 7 = 13
Dam: 1d8 + 2 + 1d4 ⇒ (8) + 2 + (4) = 14

Using mobile offense with a standard move as first 1/2 action gets a final attack. Uses second 1/2 action to make standard attack. No range mods

I'm going to do the update on this later tonight, but Elise is right, the knife would be better at this range. When you are shooting at your opponent in melee, it costs you a -8 and add 4 to the error range. I'll allow you to switch to the knife for the price of an Action Die...otherwise, stayed tuned...

Elise drops her rifle and quick draws her knife, cutting into the man's armor. He winces in pain, but the armor seems to have taken most of the damage. He attacks back with his rifle's end again and after putting her on the defensive, sweeps her leg. He is unable to knock her off balance however and has to readjust his stance to compensate.

The soldier outside is hit from all sides by Smith and Mac. There is little life left in him as he slumps over the short garden wall, his weapon clattering to the concrete. For the moment there are no other active shooters outside, but both of you know that the truck holds more than just two soldiers... Most of the civilians in the area have fled..
