I've never adhered to a very strict interpretation of the rules for resting. I always assumed that, including watch rotation and downtime at the campsite, the rest period usually encapsulated 8-10 hours overall - ensuring everyone gets enough rest to recover their abilities.
I only really rule that the rest is interrupted if a particularly harrowing encounter crops up in the night or if a plot-related event intervenes.

Eunomia Verto |

That works! Thanks for the clarification.

In the realm of amazing coincidences, I burst out laughing at "Dawn." Because, no joke, that is my IRL first name, and I was given that name in almost exactly the same way for the exact same reason.

This made my day! Thanks for sharing, Dawn. It really was that spontaneous for me. Err... the post, not naming my daughters. They were all named in the womb, and my oldest and youngest were named 5 minutes/days before gender was confirmed.
But anyway, in the post, I wrote the sentence about it being too early to name the horse, then the name popped into my head.
I do like the name, and it's actually meant to be the Vixen becoming less distant after waking from a peaceful sleep—which is actually because your character bunked with her. So it's kind of fitting the horse shares your real life name... I mean, long as it's not weird for you.

((Not trying to force the conversation about choosing positions. I think it's known OoC that VV wants Royal Enforcer.
Will we get into the Leadership Positions discussion while I'm away? I don't know enough about the AP to know when exactly we're at that point.))
In the AP as written, I believe the idea is that after defeating the Stag Lord in his fort, you transition into founding your kingdom with a little OOC play.
Obviously, our tale has taken a different path. My plan is to have us wrap up a few loose ends as we wait for the rulership charter to be delivered in game. In addition to finishing up the exploration and addressing the "frog man," I also wanted to introduce our new players before we began kingdom building.
Vixen: Since we will probably end up handling the in-game discussion of leadership roles while you are away, I will do my best to bot you when that time comes.

Thanks, DM! I think everyone knows Vixen wants Royal Enforcer and you know which two NPCs Addy/VV will recommend to Ahto. ((Quick PM coming if you forgot.))
I left Eunomia a post in spoiler that takes place in the future. So that's it for this game until the 23rd. See you all upon my return, though I may read up a bit at airports.
See you all in three weeks!

The Vermilion Vixen |

Hi everyone! Had a chance to catch up on reading while my wife was out (salon w/ daughters + meet friend 1:1). As much as Addy is fascinated by fey, I'll resist the temptation to post her calling out to the unseen creature in Sylvan.
Oh, and some people who kept in touch over Facebook have been giving me compliments on my artwork, particularly my most recent drawings of the Vixen. I didn't expect that, and it motivated me to draw a Hong-Kong-inspired scene. (The neon sign is my Chinese name given by my wife.)
Catch ya later!

Addy Lane |

Getting yen for the Japan portion of the trip, so I decided to break the zero-post commitment. I don’t know if I can follow up, if the fearie dragon ends up being swayed by Addy. She’s fascinated by fairies, so I felt compelled to make the effort to talk to the creature.
(Oh, and if my above discussion post was unclear, I meant friends and former students I haven’t seen in 6+ years brought up the topic of my artwork in-person. My above post reads like I got likes on Facebook, but I meant Facebook is how my HK friends know I draw stuff. That it became a topic of conversation was a pleasant surprise since digital art is just a relatively new hobby of mine and not something I talk about in mixed company.)

Addy Lane |

This fey stuff is aimed right at Addy's soft spot. I guess I'll make a quick post from Hokkaido.
And yes, that's a link up there. If you click it, you'll see the shape of the island made of red flowers. (The second link just shows you more flowers.)
(That's four scenery photos linked above. I'm a lousy photographer, but maybe Japan's beauty makes up for my lack of skill and crappy camera.)

Addy Lane |

@CL, I haven't been reading up on our other game, but I'm caught up on Paizo games since none have been going at a breakneck speed. I just replied to Ahto.
@Ever-Anon, thanks for the PM. I am loving Hokkaido! I'll likely reply to the PM when I'm back.
I only broke my zero-post plan because the fey plot is right up Addy's alley and the DM even had her riding as Addy, not the Vixen!

Any chance Commander Parsall will be an NPC? I just learned he's an official Kingmaker Campaign character and, in-game (PM w/ Eunomia), Addy learned he's a paladin of Milani (VV's goddess).

After reading up a bit more on the character, I will try to incorporate him, especially since he is a key part of Eunomia's backstory.

I don't think there's that much information out there. (At least not that I could find.) Mostly just that he's a former Galtan noble who became a paladin and founded Liberthane. There's some interesting parallels that could be made between Liberthane and our upcoming kingdom, but you don't have to incorporate anything that doesn't match up with your plans for the game.
Regardless, I'll send you a copy of our PM'd messages once we're done so you'll know about any extra liberties I've taken with the character.

I don't think you can do an untrained Knowledge check and get higher than a 10, Addy. Just a note.

Eunomia Verto |

That's part of why I rolled as well, though I'm not sure how much sense it made for Eunomia to have K. Local already.

Addy Lane |

Whoops... forgot all about trained-only skills.
Maybe next level, I can take this talent:
In his social identity, the vigilante can take 10 when attempting to aid another on Appraise, Craft, and Knowledge checks. He also gains a bonus equal to half his class level (minimum +1) on Bluff checks to appear knowledgeable in Appraise, Craft (all), and Knowledge (all). If he has the renown social talent, he grants a +3 bonus when he successfully aids another on these skill checks, rather than +2.
In his area of renown, the vigilante’s social identity is so trusted as an expert that scholars are inspired to make amazing deductions and intuitive leaps in discussions with him. A creature that has already failed a Knowledge check on a specific subject can attempt one additional check to gain information on the same topic if it receives an aid another bonus from the vigilante when doing so.
...though I'm not sure how that would get me the info hidden in the DM's spoiler if I'm supposed to merely *appear* knowledgeable.

Wow, DM! You are not kidding about the smell! When we went to the onsen village, it was like being enveloped in a perpetual egg-fart!
I appreciate the timing. Just one week ago, I still believed hot springs must be aromatic like lavender ice cream with sakura on top. But now I think they smell like flatulent oni.

I had a similar firsthand encounter last summer when my wife and I went on a belated honeymoon to Iceland. Besides the smell, the hot springs and neighboring lake were also thronged by very thick clouds of gnats.
Still had a great time, though.

I don't think you can ready a full-attack action, Vixen. You can ready a single action.

The Vermilion Vixen |

Right. I actually don't know how readying works, but should've at least considered surprise-round rules.
At any rate, that TWF feat is paying off.
I'm kinda tempted to change the order I learn vigilante talents. There's a Sweeping Strike that would allow me to ready an attack against multiple foes. It's Cleave at a low level, but by Lv.12, the talent advances to a Great Cleave that doesn't end if any attacks miss. It's almost like having Whirlwind Attack as a standard action.
___
PM to DM regarding the Lv.5 talents I'm contemplating.
EDIT: on second thought, no PM necessary.
I was contemplating Well-Known Expert as a Lv.5 talent, and wanted Vayelan's take on how the talent should work. (If you look at Vigilante Talents, some are really wide open to interpretation.) But as I was halfway through writing the PM, I realized the choice was between two undesirable extremes:
• The talent is only useful for feigning knowledge or aiding another at a knowledge/craft/appraise check.
• I can use Addy's insanely-high Bluff bonus for any knowledge check, meaning Addy would constantly steal the thunder from actually-knowledgeable PCs.
So I'll avoid that talent like the plague and take Mockingbird next level. That's a fun one, and I can use it as Addy or VV.

The descriptive text indicated we hiked 12.5 miles or so to get to the pond. Am I correct that it was at least twilight by the time were done killing and burning the frog bodies?

The Vermilion Vixen |

Funny... if I didn't roll nat.1, that would have just played out like Addy was pausing for dramatic effect. I suppose if anyone wants to, a DC15 sense motive would confirm she was arguing with the voice in her head.
But mostly, that's just me RP'ing Addy/VV's mental instability. It doesn't take a die roll to know she's got issues.

I'm going to be at a gaming con this weekend. My posts will be shotty for the next 48hrs.

The Vermilion Vixen |

I also have a note about my weekend, along with every week until mid-June:
I have houseguests over for the weekend, so I may not be online much, and on Monday my students start school! So going forward, I'll likely check for new posts after work (and probably *not* before work).

Harmond Orlovsky |

I too am prepping for a con next weekend (Thursday through Monday) so my posting may be a bit more sporadic. I've leveled up/geared out 6 PFS characters for the wife and myself in the past 8 hours.

Hey there, GM. Did Wonky learn anything new of her stone with the Knowledge Nature 30 roll that I made?

The Vermilion Vixen |

I looked up rules on Stealth checks with Invisibility, which is +20 when moving / +40 when still.
When VV levels up, she will have the Mockingbird talent, which should work especially well with Invisibility. The talent allows VV to throw her voice among other things, meaning she could communicate or divert attention without giving away her position. Mockingbird is a Social Talent, but it can be used by either persona.

Harmond Orlovsky |

Okay, I'm officially out of town until Tuesday, feel free to bot me in the meantime.
Going to play all three bone keeps this weekend and I'm quite excited

The Vermilion Vixen |

I suppose the creatures are still flat-footed due to low imitative rolls after the surprise round?
Of course, by charging, VV takes an AC penalty herself. It will be 12 AC when the lair wyrm hits me back. I'm assuming Ahto's blow finished the first one.

The Vermilion Vixen |

While I feel bad about Horace like every other person with a heart, I enjoy RP moments like this that show such a vast difference between my character's two personas. Addy would be bawling her eyes out.
Not sure how it reads, by my intent is that VV's whispered words are her putting *effort* into saying something sensitive. The result is both cliched and sincere.

The Vermilion Vixen |

For anyone who wants to see:
• sketch drawn yesterday
• and finished today

The Vermilion Vixen |

I hate Paizo's back-tracking error. I just failed a Bellflower Innuendo roll by 5, which means I deliver an *unintended* message to the target audience. I was brutally honest about what my hidden message to the hunter was supposed to accomplish, and so my fail was an elaborately-written self-sabotage... but Paizo's back-tracking error ate it and I lost the mood.

The Vermilion Vixen |

@Vayelan, would you mind including Asham's last name in the Allies spreadsheet?
I'm sure it's somewhere in the discussion and/or gameplay thread (and not PM's, after my thorough search) in more than one instance, and I'm usually good at remembering things that are important to my character. I have no idea why I can't remember Ash's last name, especially since I remember thinking it an easy name to remember. (On that, I stand corrected.)

I've updated the NPC listing. Her family name is Kavinka.

The Vermilion Vixen |

Thanks! I noticed the note too.
I'll make proper intros (which include full names, according to the civilized half of Addy's upbringing) once Ash and VV are back with the main group. Feel free to bot us there if you want to keep things moving.

The Vermilion Vixen |

Harmond refers to VV as [i[Miss Vixen;[/i] Eunomia says Addy. The Vixen makes no correction,
She doesn't even correct her botched italics code.

Not a serious suggestion. Platinumhenge sounds like a place where demons and banshees live. Or am I thinking of another place?

We've now reached the kingdom building portion of the game. Congrats!
I've added a link to the kingdom building rules at the top of the page, beneath the other resources.
The supplies, tools, and laborers that Brevoy will provide you amounts to an initial treasury of 50 Build Points.
Since the site you have chosen for your first settlement, the bandit fort, sits within hill terrain, it will take 1 month to prepare for construction.
Furthermore, it will cost 3 BP to prepare the site - 1 BP to "Claim the hex as yours," which represents setting up very basic infrastructure such as clearing paths, hiring patrols, setting up a tent city; 2 BP to "Prepare the site for construction," which represents clearing trees, moving boulders, digging sanitation trenches, and so on.
After that, your next step is to build your settlement's first building. The rules recommend an inn, shrine, or watchtower.
There should be a list of buildings in the linked rules.

The Vermilion Vixen |

Oh, cool! This is where VV gets her Royal Enforcer status, right? When do the positions become official? Really curious about how Ahto's ruler status will be introduced in-game...!

DM Vayelan |

Yes, once the first settlement is constructed, you determine the kingdom's alignment, assign kingdom roles, and determine your kingdom's starting attributes and remaining treasury.
I wrote the letter addressed to Ahto with the plan that it may tie into how he becomes ruler. The church of Abadar may coronate him, after a fashion. I didn't want to shoehorn you into starting a theocracy, but I did want to leave that possibility open.

The Vermilion Vixen |

Not that it's up to me, but objectively speaking, I think LG makes the most sense for kingdom alignment. I believe we're all within one step of the LG corner (including Addy, but not the Vixen).
