My original concept for Elena is as a Skald using the Red Tongue and either the Fated Champion, the Court Poet or the Urban Skald archetypes.
If that would not work for you I'm fine with something else though it should be noted that her formal education was as a noble lady so that should probably show.
There is one thing I'm very hesitant about though and that would be the intended awkwardness and residual tension between her and Paval. The two were a couple before knowing they were half siblings and those feelings have never been properly dealt with. They were simply told it could not happen as they were related then where pulled apart and told never to tell anyone about any of it (both their previous relation and that they were half siblings).
I'd be perfectly fine with figuring out how to do such a thing but it would be a complication.

I like the idea of having a Kalima-esque character back in the mix, so that brings up the obvious question: why not simply take over Kalima and re-make her into your vision for her?
I will miss Sams though. Who will Wonky have to play 'MAKE BIGGER' with?
I have to say, MAKE BIGGER is the best! I will miss that too. I have a plan to take Leadership someday and make Sams into a cohort, if Leadership is allowable. I still hope he remains a part of the community of characters.
I think making Kalima again might make the most sense, if people are okay with what will inevitably be differences in how the character is played.

I think the complication is the whole point of the story with Elena, and what makes it interesting. But I admit I'm not sure if I will do it justice . . . it would be an experiment. I am fine leaving that between you and DM Vayelan, should he decide that Elena makes her appearance. And perhaps she can appear as your own cohort.

The original idea was to have her as a cohort/back up character for Paval, in part because I'm still figuring out where to go with him character wise (I'm pretty clear on mechanics for a few levels onward). He needs some drive beyond anxiety and fear over what's happening to him.
As for doing the story justice, I'm not sure I will either.
The most important part is that you enjoy what you play and for that I think you'll have to make a character your own. So if you want to play Elena we'll figure something out that suits both of us. If not she'll stick around for later use.

Provided that she has some downtime (as we await a proper time to set off with Jhod on our next exploration), Wonky would like to work on two things:
1.) She'd like to create two potions: one of CLW, and another of enlarge person. Cumulatively, they'd take 4hrs of downtime work to create and 225gp (or 300 gp if I cannot use a fangberry for each). It'll need a DC 8 Alchemy check for each. Let me know if I can brew these and I'll make the checks in the Gameplay thread.
2.) She's starting to tinker with her stonebow to come up with a more useful (and damage-dealing) weapon. She'll use her Craft Weapons skill and her new tools (and I'll choose to make the weekly check), so we'll be on day 1/7 of that.

DM Vayelan |

Hexa had collected enough fangberries for up to 3 potions, so Wonky will have enough for both potions and still have a small basketful of berries left over.
She should have enough time left in this day to set the potions brewing.
If anyone else wants to make use of some downtime, feel free to make your rolls and describe your actions in the Gameplay thread.

Can Wonky use the Oleg store credit to offset the 225gp in materials that she needs to use up to create the potions?

![]() |

Wonky will make use of the store credit, leaving us with 855gp in Oleg's credit line.

Still here dealing with some major issues. Post coming soon.

Hey DM Vayelan!
I was just putting that on hold for the time being and continuing with Sams. My thinking was to put something together as we get closer to kingdom building.
Though I'm still open to creating Jhod. (Or he can just stick around as an NPC--I assume some of those would be needed for the future kingdom.)
I'm also open to taking over Kalima, though I admit I kind of imagine Kalima NOT getting her hands dirty and reigning above it all from the security of the outpost. On the other hand, this partially-complete alias already exists! I was wondering if I should just take Imperious Bloodline instead.

Once more, sorry for my silence. Things have been a bit up and down for me here.
I'm also still struggling with Paval, his identity and his actual use for the game. I'm trying to figure out what to do as at the moment everything he can do someone else can do better, both in and out of combat. That has been bugging me for a while but I thought it would be a temporary thing and just a matter of finding his niche. I still haven't found it though.
EDIT: Imperious bloodline would be a great fit for Kalima I think.

DM Vayelan |

@Sams - No rush. I just wanted to see if you'd started leaning in a particular direction about who you wanted the replacement character to be. While recreating Kalima is definitely an option, you shouldn't feel beholden to just go with that.
@Paval - No worries. During this downtime, I imagine Paval would probably be keeping to himself. If you want to make a post similar to an internal monologue, a way to explore Paval's thoughts and develop his character further, feel free to put that in a spoiler for the two of us.
Also, did you have any particular ideas about what you'd like Paval to do? As you give it some thought, let me know - I can try to develop and incorporate encounters, challenges, or situations that can give you a chance to shine.

So my thoughts surrounding Wonky's craftiness...
The stonebow - it's an under-powered weapon to be sure (1d4), but a weird one, and that's why I like it. I want to tinker with it in order to make it more than just a stone-firing device, but also an alchemical vial-firing device.
The stonebow's base cost is 35gp but I'm not building a new one - just augmenting the one that I have. I'd like to make it masterwork, so there's 300gp added on, but I wondered what you thought about the enhancement cost - an extra 35gp to make the leather pocket big enough to hold a vial?
I'm open to ideas. Additionally, I'd like to make my gnome pincher into a man catcher for small creatures. Base cost for that is 15gp. Masterwork would be an extra 300gp.
Lastly, I'd like to make use of the storm to brew up some alchemist's fire from my alchemy kit. I'll make that roll in the gameplay thread now. I'll take the funds from the party's gold (6gp 4 sp).

DM Vayelan |

Wonky, I like your ideas for modifying the stonebow, and you have my approval with one caveat.
Given the volatile nature of alchemical mixtures, I'm inclined to institute the rule that on a natural 1 attack roll when firing a vial with the stonebow, a misfire occurs and potentially exposes Wonky to an alchemical backfire.
As for brewing the Alchemist's Fire, as per the Crafting rules, since your Craft roll total multiplied by the DC was more than double the item's cost, you completed your progress in half the time. Therefore, if you would like, you can make a second Craft roll for the day.

If Hexa wanted to have a building built I'm guessing I'd need to talk to Oleg and such correct?
I'm looking at building a shrine and a smithy. Most likely the Smithy first if possible. But that depends if he can get some hands on coinage.
Can we use the Downtime/Room Rules?

DM Vayelan |

Since a shrine and smithy would require materials and tools that would have to be ordered from Restov, Oleg would be the person to talk to.
Yes, we can use the Downtime and Room rules for this. In addition, we can use the Earning Capital rules to represent trading hides and meat to Oleg in exchange for some of the ordered materials.

Teuni-Hexa |

Roger that!
Will work on it once I can. :)
Need income first lol or more treasure first~ I doubt store credit would be a worthy use of that. Especially not everyone has benefited from it yet.

Teuni-Hexa |

Dealing with RL issues sorry for the wait. Will post soon.

Teuni-Hexa |

Sorry guys, life continues to be hectic.
With three kids it really sucks to think she is giving up. I have no idea how to reach her, she continues to avoid conversations and cant even muster up a simple good night or im heading to bed ttyl or love you even in text. Its... Heartbreaking.
I'm still very much ready to go and will post tonight. Apologies for the delay. :/ I hope you botted me as needed.

Hexa, you do you. This Kingmaker thing will be here. You’ve got all our love and support. I’ll even throw in some of my natural 20s. Some of them.
Keep fighting.

Teuni-Hexa |

Thanks Wonky, I need the distraction that RPing gives me. I spent almost a month being miserable and consumed by my thoughts and our situation.
But I appreciate the 20 and plan to keep moving forward regardless of where the road may lead.

Teuni-Hexa |

You are doing a great job. Thank you very much! :D

My now-wife was in a pretty severe depression for a time. I tried to help but it was very challenging. Thankfully there were also friends and family who carried some of the load, and also medicine. Her situation is now much better and we're at a pretty good place with our marriage. Your situation sounds harder, but it always helps to have more support if possible so you're not doing it all alone.
We're here to be a welcome break from it all.

As someone who has suffered from quite severe depression himself, I'd say hang in there. You most likely already know this, but the fact she can't talk about it does not mean she doesn't care.
I don't really know you or her so it's impossible for me to do anything but make general statements you have probably heard hundreds of times already. Especially since I don't know her anxieties, which can complicate things.
Get help if you can. Be it professionals or family and friends. Preferably both. It's for you, for her and for your kids.
Time spent together helps and it doesn't have to be anything big (I think smaller might even be better). Going for a walk together could be enough.
Take time for yourself and make sure your kids also get time to relax, no matter how young they are. Your wife may have the diagnosis but you all share in her sickness.
I realise you might not be waiting for advise from some random guy on the internet but know that I mean well and my only desire in this is to get the best possible outcome for you and your family. I know how s%ty these kinds of things are and I don't wish that on anyone.
If we can help you with your breaks we are more than happy to do so.

Teuni-Hexa |

Thanks guys I really hope to resolve this. I really, really do. :(

Teuni-Hexa |

Back again. This time no more posting issyes. Sorry :(

Teuni-Hexa |

Glad to be back! Post made and hopefully this helps Ahto!
We don't have rough or difficult terrain do we? I might have missed it if we do and it will affect hexa's actions. Thanks!
