Illthir Winlowe |

"Let's be *slightly* careful yes? Remember the wall of fire ..." Illthir gently nudges Matheus away from the door. She leans down to peer through the keyhole and then lean her ear against the door, hoping to have a mild warning at least. Once she's moderately satisfied the door won't lead to some plane of eternal suffering, she'll let him get back to the smash-down.
Perception: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (10) + 11 = 21

Durgan Far-Walker |

"Fergus, Illthir, Alia - do any of you have a spell to open doors at a safe distance?"
Thinking of Open/Close which I believe none of you have.
"Dool?"
If he doesn't have the spell either, then Durgan will offer to open the door physically.
"If you would allow me, Matheus; some of my magical wards are still in effect and so I am well-protected."
If Matheus allows, Durgan will open the door (after Illthir's report).
If Matheus insists, then Durgan will let him open the door.

Illthir Winlowe |

"Just Mage Hand. But if it isn't too heavy.." Illthir makes an attempt at pushing the door open with that spell, once she's gathered any available intel.

Alak Dool |

"Let's be *slightly* careful yes? Remember the wall of fire ..." Illthir gently nudges Matheus away from the door. She leans down to peer through the keyhole and then lean her ear against the door, hoping to have a mild warning at least. Once she's moderately satisfied the door won't lead to some plane of eternal suffering, she'll let him get back to the smash-down.
The Lock seems overly complicated, and Illthir can neither hear anything on the other side nor see anything through all the gears.
At Durgan's inquiry Dool makes a knocking gesture with one hand while speaking a phrase of magic. There's some grinding noises as the gears in the lock try to move, but nothing (aside from the wizard's expression growing angrier) happens.

Illthir Winlowe |

Perception: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (4) + 11 = 15
"Violence then?" Illthir suggests. With her real weapon in hand, she felt more confident in her ability to break down the door then ever!
Give someone else a brief chance to flub a roll as well :p? 4s seems to be all the rage lately :D

Serena Mistcastle |

Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (15) + 6 = 21
Sense Motive: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (13) + 9 = 22
Serena shoots the tiny imp a stern glance. "Wait a minute!" she shouts. "What do you know?!" she demands of the imp.

Illthir Winlowe |

"Surprises makes me rate things poorly..." Illthir thinks out loud. Certainly loud enough for the imp to hear.
Diplomacy?: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (1) + 8 = 9

Durgan Far-Walker |

Perception: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (2) + 13 = 15
Durgan likewise fails to notice, but Serena clues him in.
"Why are we tolerating this fiend's presence? Does anyone have a good reason why we do not just kill it?
Matheus, I suspect the door is trapped."

![]() |

"Surprises makes me rate things poorly..." Illthir thinks out loud. Certainly loud enough for the imp to hear.
More-likely intimidate but even still.
"Well, if no one else is going to try it." Matheus steps forward and tries the door. It seems to be locked, but the moment he tries it a loud, hallow-sounding gong sounds.
}}BONG!!{{
"What was that?"
The room is suddenly cast into a magical darkness.
The light level was normal (it's midday in a cozy/solemn library with tall stain glass windows whose thick curtains are half drawn) now it is dim even for people
A cool breeze cuts through the room blowing some of the papers off the big table.

"Hey, who turned out the lights?"

Illthir Winlowe |

The youtube clip seems to be unavailable on this end. But it has a cool title for sure :D
"Surely the snickering of imps and sudden onset of darkness can only mean *good* things..." Illthir jests to help herself not immediately hide underneath the table again.
Perception: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (16) + 11 = 27
Hey, did it just get windy in here..? Ever with an eye for art she notices the missing bit of the window. "Window's broken. Or is it..?" She readies her weapon. Maybe it'd help fight off whatever art-thief or dire curse that was abound.
youtube clip name is a hint I think :D

RPGGGM |

The youtube clip seems to be unavailable on this end. But it has a cool title for sure :DOops. Sorry my bad.... Wrong link
Looking nearer by Illthir can see that there something big moving in the darkess just behind the southern set of book shelves. Whatever it is seems very thin in some places and much broader in others.
NOW the (slightly different) link! (which you probably still won't be able to see because 'Europe' I guess? You can maybe search the title up on your end. Maybe use Gööglet or whatever it is you have locally. ;)
Be back later tonight, to resolve any PC perception checks that don't come in the interim to see who is or isn't surprised!

Illthir Winlowe |

"There! *Something!*" Illthir points at the shuffling lurker. While it was rude to point - it was even ruder to stalk! (Rudest of them all where turning a party into some sort of murderous spectacle of course; just wait until we got our hands on that one ...)

Arcana: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (4) + 7 = 11
"It's big! And has sharp bits." The skald observes helpfully. Truth to be told; she could guess where it could have come from. But given that windows were rarely animate that didn't help terribly much. It hadn't come alive to give them a hug though, that seemed unlikely. So she awkwardly vaulted over the chairs and tables towards the foe. Maybe it could be flanked?
Action -> move 10' (difficult terrain)

Serena Mistcastle |

Religion: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (12) + 6 = 18
"I don't know," Serena replies to Longtooth, "But I'm betting it's not friendly!" She keeps her scimitar at her belt and instead hefts her morningstar!

Do I get my surprise round action?
Knowledge (Religion): 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (7) + 8 = 15
"I have no idea what it is."
He casts Shield of Faith on himself.

Illthir Winlowe |

Are the brown horizontal rectangles bookshelves/something high enough to block attacks/movement?

Illthir Winlowe |

Just going to assume it is some sort of bench. If not, let me know :)
Illthir slides forward over the tables and chairs, swinging the revenant's gift. Looked pretty darn heroic if she could say so herself! Let's hope the glass-knight agreed.

No.

They are bookshelves (we'll say they are backless so you could knock the books off and strike through them but your opponent has cover) that rise 10'. A 13 would not hit regardless.
Let me ping Alia and I'll be back.

Longtooth shoves Dool out the doors and into the hall before diving for cover aid the tall bookshelves.

Matheus rolls across the table blocking him in. He draws his sword and takes a defensive stance beside Alia. Total defense.

Alia of the Blade |

Arcana: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (9) + 7 = 16
Alia had her blade in hand, refusing to trust this place even remotely. When the room suddenly grows dark, she looks around to find a source of danger, expecting trouble from near the door, then finds it the moment she turns around.
"I have not the slightest idea what this is, and there is nothing left I can do today. I am hurt, I am drained, I had it with this place."
She turns to Mattheus:"I'll be right back", then withdraws jumping across the tables, while searching for something in her baggage.

Serena whistles loudly to get the swordlord's attention. She has her morning star at the ready. She moves to engage, presumably suffering an AoO in doing so.
Morning star vs. swordlord: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (1) + 6 = 7 Damage: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8
Unfortunately, she mistimes her swing and only manages to smash a bookshelf.

RPGGGM |

@GM - why would Durgan not have gotten a surprise round action? He made the Perception check. I only didn't post because he wasn't bolded. His Init was lower than the golem, but it's not like the surprise round ends when the golem acts. You jumped right to Round 1 before posting a Surprise Round tracker with Durgan bolded.
So yes, my bad. Durgan has a surprise round action. I'm guessing it might be...
He casts Shield of Faith on himself.

Durgan Far-Walker |

"Fergus, Alak, can you cast anything to help us fight this? Haste maybe?"
It looks like Fergus is just about out of spells, and does not have a bonded item, but he has scrolls of Bull's Strength and Enlarge Person which could be useful.
Durgan gives up Silence to heal his wounds.
Concentration DC 19 to cast defensively: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (10) + 9 = 19
Concentration DC 15 vs ongoing damage (10+spell level+1/2 of ongoing damage): 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (7) + 9 = 16
CMW: 2d8 + 5 ⇒ (3, 2) + 5 = 10 and stops the bleed
He 5' steps adjacent to the golem.

Alak Dool |

"Fergus, Alak, can you cast anything to help us fight this? Haste maybe?"
"'Maybe.'" Dool says sharply. "The thing isn't just a bundle of animate glass, it's a golem. Most of my spells will be useless against it though-" and his look grows darkly thoughtful. "if someone could freeze it or at least cool it down...."
Dool moves back into the room and casts haste upon the company.

Fergus Bouldershoulder Ironmug |

Aye, I've been saving my magic just for a turning of the tide should it be needed.
Though, when Dool takes the job, Fergus gives a nod.
Well, in that case. Magic may be ineffective, but I'm not just a robed librarian. If you need to, allow me to take some of the blows. he mentions the last part after seeing him heal himself.
He rubs an Opal gemstone before muttering a small incantation
throden trivol And several more Ferguses pop up around him before he steps up towards the creature.

Longtooth hurls himself from around a bookcase and onto the golem's flank, avoiding a giant, jagged, glass elbow to the nose by a hair's breadth. His iron sword, glowing with an eerie ghost light, bursts through one of the panes forming the glass giant's leg, causing glass to fly.

Illthir takes a step behind the bookshelves and summons her last reserves of vocal cord stamina. A song for victory! And smashing windows. Let's get to it!
Actions: 5-foot step. Standard to start singing (2 more rounds left)

RPGGGM |

No worries. I'll move us along later tonight.

Durgan's AC will be 25 while he is accepting Raging Song; the golem's attack happened after Dool cast Haste but before Durgan started raging (he decides to accept the song at the start of his turn each round) so AC 26 against that attack.
