Balzeros of the Narl |
Done! Balzeros will web shelter in a tree.
Illthir Winlowe |
Illthir seems to be on the list since last time, so that works :)
"Hmh. Let's hope they don't go for our horses. Would be a pain to walk to Restov ..." Illthir mumbles to anyone nearby as they make camp. Also I'm going to be hard pressed to find a horse that'll step on my foot gently ... Perhaps not the highlight of Walker's talents but she couldn't deny that he seemed like a smart horse.
Illthir Winlowe |
"I think I could whip something together yeah. Any uh specific place you want to put it? The area isn't that big and the Worgs looked pretty quick ..." Illthir finds a nice spot to sit down and listen to what Durgan has in mind.
Illthir Winlowe |
"Aye. As a precaution, since things are as they are. Hmm..." The skald looks off in the distance. She'd need to piece together the spell. And, more importantly, figure out a good passcode. Looking around she made sure there were no furry ears eavesdropping and lowered her voice. "Mmm. 'Hazelnut'. What do you think? Good password or no?"
Illthir will cast Alarm via spell kenning. Will make sure the party gets the password and the horses are placed so they can't wander out of the area :)
Zokon Santyev |
Zokon pays attention to the preparations, but he stays silent, just observing and letting others do their part.
Balzeros of the Narl |
"Can't imagine Worgs would guess it without us noticing them first!"
Alia of the Blade |
"Hm, I could cast it via my blade, as well. I considered the horses, but that could be more trouble than it's worth - it'll ring us awake every time an owl or fox comes close to them - unless we keep them right near the fire, in which case we likely won't need an extra Alarm...", Alia ponders as she prepares the tent for Ilvah and herself.
RPGGGM |
Alright, watches are posted. Fergus if you want to watch the darkness feel free to plop your name down here. Likewise folks can pop any tents they have wherever they like.
RPGGGM |
As afternoon draws on and into the rosy evening, the party makes camp, sets a campfire, and gathers to eat the evening meal.
Who's cooking, setting up tents, etc...?
Balzeros's Perception: 1d20 + 24 ⇒ (16) + 24 = 40
Durgan's Perception: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (8) + 13 = 21

Durgan Far-Walker |
Durgan is cooking.
Profession (Chef): 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (9) + 8 = 17
It should be quite satisfactory. Not superlative, but good.
He looks up from the fire and notices that two of the company have gone missing.
"Anyone know where Erevenywg and Ilvah went to?"

"Anyone know where Erevenywg and Ilvah went to?"
Ilvah seemed to have slipped off to relieve herself, but it's been a while now.
Alia of the Blade |
Sigh. There's Worgs around and we know it. I would have gone with her. In fact, everybody should use a buddy system when they leave the immediate campsite. A buddy system with a PC. No NPC/NPC teams.
That, and I still have the portable toilet "Chamberpot of Elven Cleanliness(Jar with gelatinous serving)" she could have used in the tent. (Also, do tell when it gets large enough to split into 2)
All that said, you are probably going somewhere with this, so I'll roll with it.
Just having finished setting up the tent, Alia looks around as Durgan speaks up. "Ilvah had to make water - didn't someone go with her?"
Noticing Erevenywg is gone as well, a panicked expression enters her face:"Someone OTHER than the fey?"
Unsuccessfully looking for tracks of some sort, she looks to Zokon with a pleading look in her eyes: "They can't have gone far. I'd rather not draw attention by shouting, there may be others who hear out there. Could you help me follow the trail?"
Survival: 1d20 ⇒ 1
Illthir Winlowe |
Illthir will set up one of the tents. And help Durgan cook by occasionally being in the way and inhaling the scent of warm food.
"Oh hmm?" She stands up and looks around. Ilvah could be hard to spot at times but Erevenywg usually stood out. "I'm sure they're fine. But can't hurt to look ..."

Balzeros of the Narl |
"Forgive me for intruding," Balzeros says, butting into Alia's request to Zokon, "but tracking is something of a forte for me. If I may?"
"Ramita, please remain at camp and out of sight. Signal to me if something goes awry, would you?"
He mutters a spell and does his best to lead the way, prioritizing Ilvah's trail if he has to choose between the pair.

Balzeros quickly picks up the girl's trail as the shadows grow long.
Balzeros of the Narl |
"Unless we get lucky, I fear we're going to be traveling in darkness," Balzeros says as he picks up a stick and cause sit to generate light. "I suspect the answer is yes, but do you wish to keep going?"
RPGGGM |
Anyone else going? Doing anything?
Zokon Santyev |
Zokon will follow along and see if he can learn anything from Balzeros helping as he can
"I'm with you, lets go find them."
Zokon will grab his headpiece lightstone thingie before he leaves
Durgan Far-Walker |
"Zokon, should I stay and guard the horses, or follow?"
Don't love splitting the party, but the horses getting stolen while we are all away seems the kind of thing that might happen...
Zokon Santyev |
"Stay.. we'll bring the results to you."
RPGGGM |

Alia, Balzeros, and Zokon press on into the forest as night bares down.
The path leads onward, and is eventually joined by another set of tracks--Erevenywg's.
Their trail leads deeper in, and Balzeros's wood lore allows him to out pace his allies through some of the tangle. Does he scout ahead?
Darkness falls, and the spring foliage overhead and cloud cover blots out the moon and stars. You've been hunting for about 20 minutes.
It is dark in the deepest bits of the forest, with infrequent splashes of dim in the clearer parts, when the clouds break. How do you proceed?
Zokon Santyev |
"I'ma use my light if no one protests."
Zokon mounts his headband with it's sunrod torch thingie so he can see.
Balzeros of the Narl |
Balzeros nods. "I'll go on ahead a bit, but not much further. We'll be ok if we manage our lights and remain vigilant," he says before picking up the pace a little.
________
Balzeros will scout, but will do his best to still remain within sight of the people he is leading. He does have alight spell active, which I'd imagine would increase the distance ahead he can go while still remaining in view.
Alia of the Blade |
When asked if she wants to continue, Alia only responds with "She is my ward."
Ilvah trusted her, and had become part of their entourage...and Alia would have done this for everyone tagging along - except maybe the Fey.
Girl, what did you get yourself into...
"This is worrysome. Can you tell if Erevenywg followed her after Ilvah passed here, or if she joined her and they moved together?"
@GM: Did she deliberately move into this direction, or does it seem like she got lost? As in, are there frequent turns or attempts to reach spots of better visibility, or is there a direction they are heading towards? If so, do we remember anything in that direction? Any Landmarks or so that could serve as meeting place with someone?
Illthir Winlowe |
Illthir gets her flute and plays a soft tune to soothe the mood of those whom remain. But as the party doesn't quickly return with Ilvah or Erevenywg she too grows a bit impatient. "Oh. I hope nothing is wrong ... "
She decides to try and find Balzeros' fuzzy friend. Those wizardy pets usually knew a thing or two about their masters - so would probably make a good canary. If she could keep her eye on it ...

"This is worrysome. Can you tell if Erevenywg followed her after Ilvah passed here, or if she joined her and they moved together?"
There are not a lot of "landmarks" in the area other than hills and trees. The shepherd's hill where you met the shepherd, his flock and the worgs would be one of the few areas that stand out. Roughly speaking you are heading back in that direction.
And yes, you can see ground light for a good distance before it gets lost in the foliage. It is only at a distance of 300'+ where it gets sketchy, or when on the other side of a steep hill/large stones.
Balzeros of the Narl |
Balzeros frowns at the tracks in the dirt. That's... not the best sign.
Waiting for the others to catch up before scouting ahead again, he relays his findings. "I won't pretend to know why, but it is quite clear Erevenywg arrived after Ilvah. Both began to move faster as they got going as well. I'll report back again if anything changes."
RPGGGM |
A wolf howls mournfully in the distance ahead along the moonlit trail.
Alia of the Blade |
"If Erevenyweg pretends to be a wolf and hounds her, I'll stab the Fey.", Alia comments, but her voice wavers.
There was no reason for Ilvah to go that far into the woods before the tracks had joined.
All the more, she HAD to know what was going on.
Zokon Santyev |
Zokon keeps following along "Let's get to the bottom of this, hopefully we'll find them healthy and some answers."
Balzeros of the Narl |
Despite being alone, Balzeros moves ahead as fast as he can while maintaining a visual on the tracks.

The horses seem unsettled, anxious.
RPGGGM |
Balzeros rushes ahead into a clearing. Overhead the clouds part bathing the area in the light of a full spring moon. In sudden, pale light Balzeros sees the silhouette of a old circular tower upon a hill, outlined against the forest. The thing is a stump of its former self. The topmost tiers seem to fall in, leaving the place it looking like a village from the prospective of a mouse. Canted stone block steps covered in lichen lead up to its dark entrance.
Balzeros of the Narl |
Damn! Rush on to certain death or wait and risk the death of another! Balzeros worries at his walking stick. GAH!
Pulling a rod from his bag, he casts two more spells before carving an arrow pointing to the tower in the dirt and running into it.

Last use of extend on Shield of Faith, regular Barkskin to bring AC to 24.
Zokon Santyev |
Seeing that Balzeros is out of sight Zokon rushes ahead
"Not too far ahead! Balzeros wait!, let's catch up if we can" he shouts and says
Fergus Bouldershoulder Ironmug |
I thought I made a post about how fergus saw this coming, and how we should go about finding her. But It was eaten by the nether. Apologies.
At camp-
Do you think the fey has done something with the girl? Or perhaps the other way around? Blast that woman, we likely wouldn't be so in the dark, or wasting so much time if she would let me perform the spell. He grumbles a bit before sighing.
Though... I at least suppose I can understand why. Still. Running a kingdom requires hard decisions. I know its far more responsibility to others than I would ever want to take on. At least as the head. Advisors have it easy if you ask me. He lets out a chuckle. Until their advice is unheeded, I suppose. Still. Times will come where morals will... ah, I always thought morality was a luxury of the ruled. Perhaps those two will prove that wrong... lets check the horses. He mutters before looking around.
He pulls ditzy out and whispers
keep your eyes and ears open girl. Something is afoul, and I'd wager it has to do with the worgs from earlier. They aren't ones to let insults go easily.

While folks sit around the campfire lost in their own thoughts, Fergus rises to look in on the horses.
A badger bumbles in out of the wood and among the horses.

Casting the spells would take enough time (assuming he weren't moving up the steps as well) for Alia and Zokon to catch up.

Surprise round for Fergus/Ditzy :)? Since only they are bolded

Ok, that works! He's "compromising" between the two choices he set for himself. Unless someone starts wailing in agony, he's going to cast those spells first!

Sorta.... Fergus and the Ditz (they're cops!) can take full regular actions. There isn't any real surprise here. It's just that no one else is aware of the intruder as of yet.

Speaking of...
A ear-peircing scream issues from the tower. "Eeek!"
What's the plan? Note too that the stair and ground leading up the hill to the tower stump is difficult terrain.
Balzeros of the Narl |
Son of a b&&$@... Balzeros gets one a spell off, morphing his skin into rigid furrows akin to a tree, and rushes up the stairs as quickly as possible.

Barkskin, then up the stairs with his move action. It'll be double moves from here on out.
Fergus Bouldershoulder Ironmug |
Fergus would casually take out his giant poker before shouting to the badger.
Get out of here! Shoo! Git!
But would ready an action that if anything but an ally or horse neared him to poke them.
