Personally, I'm a huge fan of going in order. Mainly due to the fact there is far more order to it. I get it has the potential to be slower, but honestly, I don't think it would affect this game at all.
And on a personal note, I'm currently in a few games where we go in order and to be honest, haven't really noticed it being slow at all. And these are all steady paced games. Not fast, not slow, but steady. Even during combat. Which is perfect for me.
I would have to say it comes down to the players you have and their tendencies. As far as this group is concerned, I wouldn't see it as an issue at all.
So obviously for me, I think it's great! :)
But that is strictly my 2 cents. Keep the change, I'd just lose it in my couch anyway. ;)

Lym does have Precise Shot, so long as she’s within 10 feet of Praxim. Also, allies don’t provide cover to enemies if they stay within 10 feet of Praxim.
That's a pretty cool ability. But I was reading that the "Precise shot" bit has to be a creature that you attacked and hit. Basically you'd have to attack first. Good thing is, though, you can attack several baddies and you'd pretty much hit all of them and then she can simply choose! Pretty cool.

After all these years, I never noticed that “against that target” part of the Shared Precision ability.
On the other hand, this is the first time in 15 levels that it’s even come up, since usually Lym just uses area attacks.

Javell DeLeon |

Hey that's true! Like... nobody uses ranged attacks outside of yourself. At least not directed ranged attacks. They're pretty much all area of effect spells. Be great with a team of switch-hitter type pc's, though, who concentrate more on melee than ranged and don't want to burn a bunch of feats on archery.
That'd be kinda interesting. Five ranged pc's sorta kinda. Probably not very efficient party wise but it'd be a different twist for sure.

Thordak Ironheart wrote:...I'll be dead before I become a lich I can guarantee ya that!"Please, please, please tell me that was on purpose! OMG!
Lol! A perfect Thordakianism don't you think? ;) (It actually came to me first and then I realized how it sounded and thought it was perfect and I got a pretty good kick out of it. Of course, seeing how I didn't catch it right off the bat, that just forces me to be just a little bit concerned about myself. :P)
I was curious if anyone would pick up on it though. :)

OK. I was able to use Strands of Fate once to great effect (for which I still thank you), but haven't been able to use it since then. When can I use it in general? Should I develop a list of "break in case of emergency" scenarios or something? It's a powerful ability and I want to be able to use it.

Old Guy GM |

Do you mean Tugging Strands? If so, I was thinking of an entirely different thing from Tugging Strands. It IS a very good ability, unfortunately one that is hard to implement in PBP when I am just rolling and putting up results.
I guess I don't see a problem just using it by telling me you want to use it. So in this case, Aurora would get a reroll on her Fort save.
As much as I do not like killing PCs, I'm kind of looking forward to the drama that's about to follow from Thordak. Were she not an NPC for all intents and purposes, I'd be all for her getting another chance.
I'll let the dice decide.

Old Guy GM |

And you all just avoided a real dramatic development with Lym making the save against the Disintegrate. I had visions of Tomaru having to make a soul-wrenching choice whether to try and save Aurora (assuming he may fail Concentration, or Lym. But she saved.
Now you need to decide if you are going to use it for Praxim's save vs Blindness.
I thought the same as you - a Standard Action makes it useless. Let's go ahead and use reflexively, even after I post a result. Just tell me when/how you are using it.

You know, this battle truly feels like "We're in the end game now."
I gotta say, regardless of how this all plays out... this is gonna be epic. That shadow thief is gonna make this battle even more formidable.
I feel like I'm watching a movie. Man this is a nail biter! (Is it possible to hate and like those type of movies at the same times? Yes. Yes it is. Just don't ask me how). :P

Javell DeLeon |

@Praxim: On your 4th attack you rolled a 38 but forgot to roll damage. And you actually rolled high on the displace roll. I'm really hoping you just forgot and it's not the fact that a 38 don't hit. Because if that's the case... man we are TOTALLY toast. :P

I hope it's at least enjoyable. It think you guys have been anticipating/dreading the encounter with the lich for some time. I would at least like to do this fight justice.

Javell DeLeon |

The easy fights let us feel powerful. The tough fights make the game fun and memorable. That dragon fight was so much fun. The fight against the Lamia helped us grow closer. The hallway fight in the fort should have been set to comedic music. I felt Markum's death and I think it changed the game.
Man, I just don't believe this game can be summed up any better than this. Talk about being spot on with only a couple of sentences. Well said, my good man, well said.

Javell DeLeon |

Thordak steps in, the rage of grief burning brightly in his heart, when he spots the lich standing near a sarcophagus to his left. At the same moment, Praxim notes the source of the evil, and shouts a warning.
"Death will be the least of your concerns, dwarf." the lich hisses. "I am Azaven, and I have ruled these halls for ten thousand years. I will make of you an eternal warrior, to serve me forever!" Azaven waves his hand, and springs the trap he had prepared for this moment!
[dice=Will save]1d20+17
[dice=Neg Energy trap]14d6 half dmg for -22hpOMG. You can't make this stuff up...
Waves of dark energy fill the room, washing over the dwarf, threatening to steal his very soul...and yet...
Call it strength of will, call it Aurora's spirit protecting him, but the dark power barely phases Thordak. He wades in with his axe. The first blow strikes Azaven in the shoulder, cleaving him to the breast bone. Thordak yanks the axe free, spraying a gout of dark ichor across the ceiling of the room. The second strike takes the lich in the side, nearly cutting him in half.
The ancient wizard crumples to the ground, a look of utter surprise on his face. The evil green light in his eyes locks on the dwarf, then fades...
LOL!!! I totally freaking love it! Oh man this is such greatness. So freaking fantastic. :)

Some things:
Loot first.
Rogue: +2 human-bane dagger, +3 chain shirt, +2 amulet of natural armor, +1 cloak of resistance, 146 gp
Lich: staff of hungry shadows (10 charges), bracers of armor +5, headband of vast intelligence +4 (Kn Nobility and Spellcraft), ring of protection +2
What should we do about Aurora? I know you are going to bring her back, but have we decided that we are going to continue her as an NPC? I thought the plan was to let her leave after the Runeforge.

Old Guy GM |

Having a dogfight with a dragon was definitely a first for me. ^_^
Been meaning to get back to this comment.
Dragons are far and away my favorite encounter whether good or evil. I go to great lengths to make them memorable - I mean it's 'Dungeons and Dragons' for crying out loud. I try to channel the best dragons I've seen in movies and TV. Smaug (animated and CGI) was epic, Draco (Dragonheart) was a great wise-ass dragon - even if the movie was meh. More recently, I thought the GoT folks did a great job with Drogon and his siblings. Even if they never spoke, you always felt a high-level of badassery from them. The writers and actors definitely gave you a sense of 'oh sh*&' when they saw them.

I was wondering about Aurora too. We were planning on having her leave after the Runeforge, but we'd also figured to have another player. I'll leave it to you to decide. If we're going to write her off then either the spell doesn't work or maybe her brush with death was too much for her and she leaves to live a simpler life.

This is a good point. We had another player, and lost them. Do we pick up another 5th?

Javell DeLeon |

Honestly, I think it would be best to leave her passed. This avoids Dax having to run two characters. That's a heck of a task in an of itself at any level but especially at higher levels.
You know, I was always wondering how she was going to "exit, stage left". And personally, I think this was done well. It actually flowed with the game. And let's be honest, a lot of times that just don't happen in pbp's. It wasn't: "Okay, guys and gals, peace out. This just ain't my gig no more". You see? That just doesn't work. The way things happened just worked. I liked it. (From Thordak's perspective I totally hated it and if this was a novel I was reading I would be soooooooooo pissed. I feel sorry for the poor guy. BUT, deep down in my heart of hearts, I would know that sometimes that's just how the story unfolds sometimes).
And I'm gonna side with Praxim. I think we can manage with the four of us. I think it will TOTALLY make things even more interesting than they already are. Not sure if that's even possible but there you go. :)
Edit: This is simply my take on the Aurora situation. You're the GM, OG. If you want to bring her back, it's all good to me. I can roll with however any of you folks wanna roll with it. It's all a fun challenge no matter how you look at it. I just thought I'd throw that out there. :)

Ahem. Shall I run a Greater planar binding and fetch us some support for the final stage of the Runeforge?

@OG: CRAP! You're killing me, man. I literally had the MOST difficult time responding. I've been on these boards 10 years and this is the MOST difficult post I have EVER had to react to. About the only thing I can do OG is this: *Applauds* Well done, my man.
And yes, I am an emotional guy. If we're(me and the family) watching a movie that I know has a sad ending, then it's time for me to go get a drink of water before it hits. A drink a water from the store. The store that's 10 miles away. And is closed. Which means I HAVE to go to another store. That's even farther away. Hey, not my fault I forgot there's water in the house and I had to put my fingers in my ears saying: "BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH" when someone was trying to tell me so. :P
And pathetically enough, even if I've seen whatever movie a million times with said sad ending, I still get choked up. Yeah I can't help it. It's me. My wife though? She's freaking tough as nails. I swear I think she's a robot sometimes. (Can't help but laugh at it though) :P

@Javell: good, then it's not just me.
I've written more than a few 'going away' posts, but those have been for people just generally leaving the game after a long time in the group. This has been the hardest for me for multiple reasons. First and foremost, Fiendish Zen brought us such a great character in Aurora, and started the whole thing with Thordak. Second, your portrayal of Thordak's reaction to the affection of a 'flighty gnome' has been equally as good.
That's the main reason I asked what you all wanted to do with this PC death. Once Javell gave the ok (and I think he was thinking along the same lines as me) I went with the emotional final scene.
I had a tough time writing it. It's funny, because I never thought it would get to me like it did. It's supposed to be just a game after all. It's a tribute to you guys that we had such a reaction. Thanks again for staying with me all this time, it's been quite a ride.
And yes, only Wrath remains (for all of Book 5!!!). And Wrath is no joke, I will warn you.

I know, right?! Just a game! Wow. Pretty amazing.
And you are spot on about what Fiendish brought with Aurora. It was a HUGE letdown when she vanished on us. Pretty deflating.
Hey, all, Praxim doesn’t like it anymore than the rest of you, so fine, leave her lying in state, and just hope this isn’t going to be one of those, “The portal is only open for sixty seconds” situations.
You know, thinking about it he could probably buy: "She'll be completely safe within the bag" type reasoning. He'd feel bad about it because it does seem a bit disrespectful but he'd have a hard time arguing against it due to her being kept safe.
And if there is some type of time limit when/if/after we win this dungeon, that would just utterly kill him if he lost her.
