Mystery of the Keepers (Inactive)

Game Master DireMerc

Razmir the man known as the living god is making his move expanding into neighboring nations. It seems nobody can stop him as his power truly seems to be that of a god. A select few know the secret of his power and are taking steps to end his rule with the help of another who wields the same power as Razmir. Sazed Khaim a member of the old order of the keepers.

Houserules:

Houserules:

Casting: When casting a spell defensivly if you fail you do not automaticly lose the spell, rather you provoke an attack as you normally would for not casting defensive. If you are hit you must make a concentration check dc 10+damage taken if you fail this check you lose the spell.

Rolls:
Many rolls will be handled by the GM in secret.(don't worry, I don't fudge.)
Any result that can influence the character behavior will not be rolled open.
Rolls that will be handled by the GM:
Perception
Sense Motive.

if you make the check I will send you a pm or make a post and put it in a spoiler depending on the situation.

Sometimes I will roll Initiative others I will ask you to roll depending on the situation. In some situation (rarely) I will bypass init entirely and have you all go first and enemies second or have enemies go first and you all go after.

Combat rules:
I'm a fair GM, I dont roll combat in secret, I don't change results, I don't ignore bad calls from the characters.
Sometimes, character dies, but I'm not a player killer, if I think that an encounter will be easy handled, when it should be more challenging, I will make it a more challenging, if the party it's not prepared to face something, I will drop hints, if they insist... well killing one or two players never made me lack sleep...

Actions:
I'm a GM that do not punish the character for trying something new or cool, or even strange. Visual appealing actions are encouraged, the dc will of course depend on what are you trying, but you can try! If what you want to do is wicked cool, I can even bend the game mechanics to allow it! The most importat part is: Everyone have fun.

Posting Rate
If it could be done, I expect 1/day posting, if you can post more, it will really good.
During weekend, this rule does not apply. If you are able to post, great! But dont stress over this, everyone need some time to rest (In my case, I need time to play and DM :D on my tabletop games).

Level up
Aside from character creation, when you level up, if you want something not from core rulebook, you'll need to search it inside the game. basicly what you need to do is just show in game your character is searching for that knowledge. This rule is not meant to prohibit anything, I just don't like something like this: "Character always as a full caster, never picked up a sword in his entire life, and then he gain a new level and says: Master, I'll level up as a fighter now..."

I think someone should talk to the headman of the village and see if they will post a reward for the return of the girl.
Either that or we do it as a goodwill gesture to ingratiate ourselves with the locals. It depends on whether we will be adventuring in this area for some time I suppose.

Male Half-Orc Paladin (Divine Hunter) 1

Speaking as the resident Paladin, rescuing the girl is reward enough.

Diremec: the GMs of the other PbPs that I am/have been in seem to favor posting a Google Docs link under the Campaign Info tab, set it to public, then copy and past the maps and pictures they ish to use into it.

The other popular option is creating an account through Roll20.net.

I have never GMd a PbP, so I could not explain the specifics of how to do any of the above, butI hope that helps somewhat.

google docs should work I'l set it up in a bit.

I can load it up but it is k=just the full size Golarion map. I can't see any lumber camps. I am doing something wrong?

Terribly sorry it seems my other map didn't load
Now it should be there.

Also if you look at Northern Andoran you will see were falcon's hollow is located.

How did I know you were going to say that?

For my character, I want the girl rescued not so much for her sake but because abduction is wrong. I would do it even if there were no reward, but I would not object to a reward.

Male Professional Dosser 14/Rules Lawyer6

can't access google documents :(
I'll rely on you guys to guide me on this one.
If it becomes really important, I can go for a free trial, but I don't know how long that will last.

I can do dropbox if you want.

So, do we want eastern or western? I think the western camp looks like the quickest journey to the ruins, but there is the river to cross.

We'll see how it goes for now.

Without seeing the map, I wouldn't like to make a suggestion about the camps. Lysander suggests East, Erik west. I'll go withthe consensus.

I'm changing my view and agreeing with Lysander. A good tracker doesn't question the guy who has been on the ground, so to speak.

Male Half-Orc Paladin (Divine Hunter) 1

Sounds like we go east then.

Male Professional Dosser 14/Rules Lawyer6

OK, we have some time to talk to the guys at the first camp, then just enough time to get to the second camp before dark.

Either that or we'll have to camp here.

Grand. A natural 20 on the sense motive and a 1 on the diplomacy.

So Erik just basically walked up, called one of them a hairy-palmed backwoods axe monkey and now keenly detects they are annoyed.

Hopefully someone more diplomatic can come to his aid before he is lynched.

Male Professional Dosser 14/Rules Lawyer6

Looks like it wasn't necessary. Good thing they didn't think we were the previous group that abducted the girl.

I say we move on to the next camp. looking for signs of where they left the trail.

Male Professional Dosser 14/Rules Lawyer6

I think we should track them in the morning; move onto the log camp for tonight. If we track them tonight, we will end up in the forest as dark falls, unable to track them with no good camp site and surrounded by nasties.

So you press on to the second eastern camp?

Male Professional Dosser 14/Rules Lawyer6

Yes. We are hoping to be able to camp there overnight.

As a note the lumber-camps aren't actually camps in a sense of tents and such. It were the men work and keep their tools but come nightfall they return to the village were they sleep protected by walls and guards.

-19/73 hp, AC 20/13/18, initiative +2, fort +9, refl +11, will +8, perception +16 (+20 humans, +20 undead, +18 Evil outsiders), CMB +14, CMD:27/25, BAB +10, melee +14/+9, ranged +12/+7, Human Witchguard Ranger 9

Argh, more bad rolls!

It would appear Erik proceeds to search the camp with all the skill and subtlety of a drunken hill giant wearing someone else's spectacles.

The camp does feature a few log cabins however.

Male Professional Dosser 14/Rules Lawyer6

Well, It's still a clearing that makes a good campsite. There is little point in hoping we might come across a decent campsite when there is already one not too far away.

Presumably, we pass the men returning from the log camp and can question them in passing.

I'm inclined to grab my flail and check out the cabin, unless anyone with a better tactical mind wants to suggest an alternative?

could have gone better could have gone worst

Maybe I wasn't clear but Devyhn and Achren are knocked prone by the rolling logs.

Gotcha. I went back and edited my post.

Male Professional Dosser 14/Rules Lawyer6

Funny, as soon as I read about the pile of logs I thought about the possibilty of them rolling, but then I forgot. Glad to see the bad guys are not so stupid.

Male Professional Dosser 14/Rules Lawyer6

So far, we got Devhyn 16, Achren and Bleyz on 14, The Ghouls on 9 and Erik on 7. Ausk and Lysander have yet to roll.

When I declared what I was doing, I assumed two things, (i) The Ghouls have not yet moved up to us. If they get a surprise round, I may have to change my move,
(ii) Devhyns Lantern is still giving out enough light for the humans to see (or there is enough moonlight for them to see). If there is no light, I will seek to do a light spell.

Male Professional Dosser 14/Rules Lawyer6

lysander and Ausk will presumably start loosing arrows. Devhyn will be saving the poor survivor. If I cast Enlarge on Bleyz, he can move and attack with reach on his turn, then we have the ghouls and erik will presumably be loosing too.

If Bleyz moves to 10' away from the cabin ghouls and hits them, they will provoke AoO when they move up. The other ghouls will not be able to reach us this turn. If I cast Enlarge on myself then I should be able to get an attack in, plus AoO as they move up.

Problem with enlarge is that it is a full round action to cast, not a single action... makes casting it more problematic in combat.

Male Professional Dosser 14/Rules Lawyer6

So it is! Always assumed it was a standard casting time. Thanks, Bleyz.
Well, I'll have to go with Light or something. Erik could probably use light.

Male Professional Dosser 14/Rules Lawyer6

As far as I can see, Ausk hasn't posted since Thursday. Does anyone know if he is still in?

Liberty's Edge

Male Human Inquisitor of Pharasma 11 l AC 24 T 13 FF 21 l HP 54/69 l F +9* R +7* W +12* l Init +5 l Perc +17

DireMec, is my stabilizing of the lumberjack considered my action for the first round, or are you considering that a reaction in the surprise round?

I want to make certain, so that I don't inadvertently post twice for the same round.

Any action you posted along with your initiative would be considered your action for the first round.

Male Half-Orc Paladin (Divine Hunter) 1

Sorry about the quiet yesterday, it got crazy around here unfortunately.

I take care of my Mom as he main caregiver/helper. She's decided that she's going to smoke despite CoPD, and this is causing minor flare-ups. I bowed out of one game's application process because she was having a major one that died down.

She's had over the last two days, minor flare-ups. The worst one being sleeping most of Friday. I've had to monitor more because of this, but it seems to be subsiding again. If it don't it still won't slow me much more because if she doesn't snap out of it soon-ish, I'll have to send her to the hospital.

While annoying, it's not worrisome when she goes in. She's done it enough times that the nurses and I are mostly on first name basis, and so the process is pretty much routine.

Male Professional Dosser 14/Rules Lawyer6

So, are we on first or second round now?

Liberty's Edge

Male Human Inquisitor of Pharasma 11 l AC 24 T 13 FF 21 l HP 54/69 l F +9* R +7* W +12* l Init +5 l Perc +17

From what I can tell, it's the ghouls' turn in Round One. All characters going before the ghouls have posted their actions.

Erik would then need to post his action after the ghouls, then we would begin Round Two.

Male Professional Dosser 14/Rules Lawyer6

Just wondering if I can convert my readied action to a spell as they will not be reaching this turn.

Male Professional Dosser 14/Rules Lawyer6

guess its too late. :(

Indeed When you ready an action to attack you don't get the action back if they don't come close.

I know it's a bit hard to tell without a physical map but I see each of you being separated by a a square or two at least.

I know that feeling; I am the main carer for my daughter who has a rare condition that means (among other things) she doesn't breathe properly when she sleeps. Ventilator at night, monitors, Regular trips to the hospital, check-ups, etc. (My wife usually takes her while I look after the other kids), so I know some of what you're going through.

Ausk - I also have been there where you are. I was my dad's caregiver for a year after my mom died. Mostly he suffered from depression from her passing, but his other health concerns - his heart, COPD, fairly frequent minor strokes, and other things - worsened badly after that too. I had to commute 80 miles home once a week just to visit my husband and son. It was a relief to finally hire a full time caregiver to live with him so I could live at home and visit him and enjoy his company more. Sadly he only lived 8 more months after that, and I miss him dearly... There are many times I wish I'd stayed with him til the end and spent more time with him... so as much as it is difficult to be the caregiver, there are benefits as well.

Take care, and I hope your mom feels better soon.

Male Half-Orc Paladin (Divine Hunter) 1

Thank you all. Yesterday she didn't smoke at all, and while depressed she felt a lot better.

I'm hoping something happens minor so that she can get into the Rehab home that she likes, they always seem better at breaking her depression than I do.

I hope things work out for you on the homefront Ausk.

As for the gamefront congrats on nobody dying in the first battle(not for lack of trying on my part).

One little mixup, I'l try to be more careful about that in the future. It bugs me I can go back and fix that post but oh well.
For future combat I'll look into posting maps in the google docs.

As for Initiative I think for future battle I''l ask all of you to roll to make sure everyone is present and to let you post a reaction to combat starting. Afterwards I'll try to keep enemies and player separate so you can all post in any order and have battle resolve quickly.

Anyway time to patch up and prepare for the night :) good luck.

Male Professional Dosser 14/Rules Lawyer6

Any chance of healing back up to Full HP?

Also, I cannot retrieve my Eidolon until "the following day" which I take to mean after 8 hours rest, so if we are attacked in the night I will have to rely on summoned creatures.

Finally, what do we do about this woodcutter? I assume we will rest up at the log camp overnight, and head back to the village in the morning. At some point overnight he will become conscious hopefully, otherwise we will have to heal him.(Assuming we don't get attacked in the night).

In case we are attacked in the night, we need to think about sleeping arrangements, posting guards, etc.

I suggest we use the small cabin; don't know how many will fit in there, but I don't need to sleep so I can rest outside, but that doesn't mean I can spend it all on guard duty (that would mean no rest). Presumably there will be someone on guard duty. can we fit 5 people asleep in the cabin (4 pcs and the woodcutter)? If we each take 2 hours on guard duty, and rest/sleep for 8 hours that would take 10 hours. It would mean 5 people taking guard duty, and 1 resting 10 hours. Who gets let off guard duty?

well you did get a wand of cure light wounds so healing to full shouldn't be a problem. Also healing the lumberjack would make him concious.

the cabin is plenty large enough for everyone to fit inside and even features a common room with a fireplace, a dining room and a kitchen.
