Emmit was going over the relics he'd discovered in his last excursion into the ruins, he'd found quite a bit that he hoped would shed more light on the past. As he sat in his tent dusting things off, he heard his hired guards scrambling as if some threat had entered the camp.
Curious he stood up and open the flap, looking out he saw either a tall goblin, or a very young half-orc dressed in goblin attire. Either way, the creature was walking and acting half starved.
"Calm down men, can't you see he's not a threat?" Emmit barked as he went back in his tent and grabbed the sandwich he'd been nibbling on. He then walked up to the person, now seeing him to be a half-orc of about four or five, gave him the food, and carefully guided him to the tent.
From that point, Emmit raised Ausk as his own child. The elderly man had often wished and prayed to Irori for a child, and saw this as an answer. Emmit tried to raise Ausk to follow him into the clergy of Irori, and at least partly succeeded, raising the half-orc to value religion.
However, Ausk from a really young age took to the bow as much as Emmit wished he'd take to books. It was during a hunt that Ausk devoted himself to Erastril. He'd been hunting with no luck when a deer bounded out of hiding. The half-orc lined up the shot, but something stayed his hand from firing. Seconds later, a fawn followed its father out. Ausk saw the resemblance between himself and the situation, and took it as an omen.
Doing research afterwards, led him to Erastril. Ausk, dedicated himself to the virtues espoused ever since, especially family and hunting. While Emmit is mildly disappointed that Ausk didn't follow him, he loves his son too much to press the issue.
