I'll check on that later.
And no, you can't retroactively upgrade core attributes like BaB and skills/level.
I think I found a loophole in this rule...
Using the retraining rules, it's possible to retrain class levels, right? Class levels include things like, you guessed it, BAB, skills per level and saving throws. e.g.: You could retrain Fighter levels into Ranger levels and get better saves and more skills while keeping your full BAB.
Since there are no real classes in your homebrew rules, just class features and their respective costs in build points, wouldn't that mean that a player can retrain his "class levels" (including the first one), to change your BAB, saving throws and skills per level?
It'd cost money and take a few days, but it does seem like the logical conclusion of using your homebrew in conjunction with the retraining rules. So, if you don't want players to eb able to retrain skill points, BAB, etc, you should probably add a note about it on your homebrew's google doc.
BTW, did we just disabled a trap in the all way?
I thought you guys despised the 10 ft pole trick lol
What are you talking about? I carry a 10ft Bardiche! ;)
Rynjin |
Hm. I'm not sure how that would affect things, honestly. It WOULD make sense, but I get this niggling feeling there may be unintended consequences lurking down that path. But it's too early in the morning for me to think about it too hard.
Lemmy |
Hmmm... The only thing I can think of at the moment is someone retraining to get full BAB at higher levels, although I'm not sure why they wouldn't do it in the first place... Maybe just retrain the saves, since they become extremely important and increasingly difficult to raise at high levels?
I'd be more worried about martial characters suddenly retraining Weapon Training and those bonus feats they got at low levels for full-casting when they reach mid/high level.
Hmm... Now I gotta think of obscure ways to use the retraining system to completely break your homebrew rules and campaign! ;)
BTW. I second Nicos' request for a NPC list. Maybe a google doc with brief description of characters (including only what we know of them) and, if possible, some pictures of them. :)
Lemmy |
A little bit restricted, yeah. I added it because A.) I figured you guys might like a way to send long range communications in a pinch.
Hmm... Now that I think about it, maybe a few wands of Message could work... Although I doubt Jorriko or Korak will be able to use it. :P
Is there a version that doesn't need UMD? Even if it costs twice as much, that's still only 750gp :)
Rynjin |
So, a couple of things.
I'll work on an NPC list to put it in the Campaign Info section. I think I'll start putting the new Jobs in there too.
Second, I feel like you guys are losing interest somewhat (lowered frequency of posting being the main indicator to me), and I am too to an extent? IMO the mission based, episodic structure is starting to hurt things. Think I should get an ongoing plot going, with a more structured sequence of events?
Lemmy |
Personally, I like the campaign, but I'd enjoy being able to influence the city a bit more in ways other than doing jobs.
Maybe we could use all those contacts for something more interesting... We could, for example, find out more stuff about the Obsidian Guard, its plans, tools, allies, etc. And try to put a dent in their plans.
I'm thinking we (Byrdd, Nicos n' me) could be a bit more proactive and creative, actually. I'd also like to see Byrdd posting more often too, to be honest.
I try to post here at least as often as I post in Nicos' campaign, but since that one has 5~6 players, it ends up having more stuff to reply to.
Lemmy |
What is n´me?
"And me" written by a lazy person... Like... "Byrd, Nicos and me". (I don't remember where I heard that it's polite to list yourself last, but I occasionally remember this rule, which might or might not exist, and obey it).
BTW, it's an apostrophe ('), not an acute accent (´)
Lemmy |
I see.
Well, I suppose we need some major goal to achieve. In a good portion of the game the bigger goal was to mess with the drow wizard and his armored bodyguard.
It's a human Cleric, IIRC, though, and his hevily armored bodyguard of unspecified race... And a Drow Alchemist-ish character... And a Drow sorceress. Of course, this being a make-your-own-class campaign, only Rynjin knows wtf those guys are actually capable of... I'd like to spy on them and catch the Cleric and his "body-guard" flat-footed and without the support of the two Drow. Byrdd seems to have a fondness for their race.
But you have a point. We should find out what happened to those guys... Then we can crush them and the Obsidian Guard. ;)
Another thing is that we can have a 4 players, the roleplay among us (the players) have decreased.
I'm under impression that we don't post too often through the day, but then, every day comes a time where we post in rapid succession. Like during the invasion/escape of Gaurten's warehouse.
IME, this is somewhat common in online games, since people usually have free time in specific hours of the day.

(I don't remember where I heard that it's polite to list yourself last, but I occasionally remember this rule, which might or might not exist, and obey it).
In spanish is like a rule. People will mock if you do not list yourself last.
By the way Lemmy, what happened with the high level adventure you wanted to GM?

Like, a grammatical rule? I thought it was more about etiquette... Then again, I don't even know where I heard this rule, maybe in school or from one of my parents... Well, I try to keep it in mind for whenever I get the chance to visit a Spanish-speaking country.
By the way Lemmy, what happened with the high level adventure you wanted to GM?
I was thinking about it just a few minutes ago.
It wasn't high level... Well, not initially, at least. My idea was to start at 4th level or so.
My end-of-year trip delayed my plans. I was actually hoping to start recruitment in February, but I don't that will be possible. I also had to rewrite quite a few things for the campaign I'm currently GMing because my players are insane.
Last but definitely not least... I forgot to work on it. I want at least the beginning of the campaign to be more or less well defined before I start it.

No I do not think is a grammatical rule, but it is heavily enforced social rule.

I did not like the automatic feature of the old crane feat, but the nerf was ludicrous.
But whatever, WOuld you campaing use rinjyn free form rules?
Possibly. Both you and Byrdd seem to like the idea, and I personally enjoyed choosing my own class features. And I'm sure Rynjin would like the opportunity to use his own house-rules.
Rynjin |
I think the crane wing errata give him a hear attack.
More like an SKR attack.
I got some insight this time, though. He wants to hold me to the professional posting standards he holds himself to (saying "that sucks" is a no-no, therefore).
*cough*
I suppose I could take that as a compliment but it's really just infuriating so yeah.
*Shrugs*
Anywho, back to thievin' and stuff.

That's sad to hear. I got banned for a day because... I dunno, apparently criticizing CW errata is wrong and making fun of unwritten rules is against the forum rules? I can't be sure, though, since I didn't even get anything telling me what caused me to be banned.
Tsc... This errata managed to infuriate me in more ways than one, I even wrote a big post about how disappointing all of this is, which Jason at least replied too. Considering the number of player that favorite'd that post, I hope Jason take some of the concerns expressed there in consideration in the future.
Lemmy |
Rynjin, I updated Korak's character sheet so that you can see his "passive" attributes (HP, AC, DR, senses and Perception & Sense Motive bonuses) just by looking at one of his posts.
Attributes in [ ] are referent to Rage. (Normal Rage, not Controlled Rage).
Lemmy |
Lol. Hey, you know, it's actually not a terrible tactic for when you start whipping out that Reach weapon again. The Swordbreaker goons aren't the only variant of the Disarm Specialist. =)
Hey, abusing range for trip is a honorable tactic... Gotta enjoy maneuvers while they're good...
It's almost hilarious how maneuvers go from extremely abusable at low levels to garbage at high levels thanks to CMD scaling so disproportionately fast...
Rynjin |
So, pursuit, too tenacious/not tenacious enough, too good/not good enough? Just right?
Was the way I ran it a little too tedious/floaty?
The Obsidian Guard (and their many variants, of which you got a taste here) are going to be your primary antagonists from here on out (though not your only ones), so i want to make sure I didn't make them over or under-kill.
Lemmy |
It's okay. Chase scenes are weird in PF because it's usually difficult to do anything other than run, since stopping to do something cool, like flip a table between you and your pursuer means you give up that x4 run speed.
Sometimes you get to use Stealth, though. Which adds some variety... My next idea was to use Acrobatics to Jackie Chan my way to the roof of some nearby warehouse.
I really don't like those chase mini-games they have in APs/PFS, though. They're ridiculously restrictive.
Rynjin |
Man, maybe I should've let him catch up with you a bit just so you could do that. That would've been cool.
I was going to have the invisible Sorcerer make him Fly at one point but figured they'd be in more of a hurry than that.
Rynjin |
Alrighty. I'll try to keep Chases to a minimum in any case. And it was SORT of skill challenges, Stealth vs Perception for the most part, but Climbing, Jumping et al could have come into play. Mind elaborating on what you mean, perhaps?
So, what did you think of using the Stink Bomb as a tear gas substitute? I made a quick decision that the Alchemists tossing them could swap the damage to nonlethal (thus just knocking out all the civilians inside) but in hindsight I'm not sure if that has rules back-up. If anyone finds something yea or nay I'd like to hear it.
Jorriko Krail |
I didn't understand what all was going on there till the end. That's all I mean. You could set skill challenges with dcs, or by points total and give modifiers as warranted.
1) set dcs: 3-4 skill rolls, best of 3-4 wins
2) point total: 3-4 skill rolls and add the totals vs a set number with modifiers like fast move speed (+5 pts), prepared/ favorable terrain (+5 pts), allies and NPCs helping (+/- 5 pts) and so on.
