Just realized I did not roll my AoO for round 2 when the sarcophagus stood up.
AoO: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 11
Damage if it hits: 1d8 + 6 ⇒ (1) + 6 = 7
--ROUND 3--
As the sarcophagus tries to stand up, Polux moves to trip it again.
AoO Trip: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 12
As his initial trip misses, he goes for it again.
Trip CMB: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (19) + 4 = 23

MW Spear round 3 AoO: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6; damage: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
Turel strikes again at the sarcophagus as it 'rises' to its feet but the spearhead clangs uselessly off the side. As the water rises higher he resolutely puts that out of his mind.
One does not pass through the mountain range without climbing past each pass first...
He steps forward and thrusts his spear at the metal lid of the sarcophagus looking for a weak spot.
Round 3 Attack MW Spear: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 2 = 10; damage: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
Again he is not able to find a weak spot in the construct.
Perhaps I should practice my deep breath exercises here. I suspect I will need to hold my breath soon...

I assume the doors opened into the trap room?
Kito looks at the doors, frustrated. They look much too solid to break...unless...
She then looks up the stairway, a calculating look on her face. Pointing up and to the left, she says "As I recall, there were some stone statues up there, Do you think the three of us can move one?"
Stone statue plummeting down 40' of stairs...I certainly wouldn't want to be the doors in the way of that!
Harmose Al-Nefer
Harmose takes a running start and leaps up unto one of the very solid statues to get up and out from the rushing water.
Acrobatics: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (16) + 1 = 17
He then takes a moment to examine the sodden contents of his pack.
Invoking the Samy rule that one may have any common item under 1 gp
The flour that he'd bought from Farhaan for tracking invisible creatures was soaked, and had leaked a wet and gloppy mess all over the inside of his bag. Good thing I'm not a wizard. This would have trashed a spellbook.
With dismay, he scoops up a gloppy handful when an idea occurs to him. "How is it targeting us? Perhaps the sarcophagus's 'face' contains some sort of perception mechanism?"
RTA, Scoop of Floury Goop: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (18) + 1 = 19
He throws the goopy mess right at the eyes of the Sarcophagus, hoping to blind it.

Ooh, nice idea Kito!
Aleris' face lights up. "Right, those stone columns! I don't know if we can, but we've got to try - things don't sound like they're going well in there!"
The sylph turns and races back up the stairs into the previous room, hoping that the three of them will be able to budge one of the columns somehow.
Hopefully they're not actually attached to the ceiling...
Kito the Scholar
As they say, it is all down hill!
Kito hurries to follow Aleris up the stairs. The idea must not have been as crazy as I thought if Aleris is agreeing with it!

ROUND 3 SUMMARY
Sarcophagus misses Turel
Ra-Khefer misses sarcophagus.
Qari misses sarcophagus and moves off pedestal.
Polux fails to trip sarcophagus.
Turel hits sarcophagus but doesn't do damage.
Harmose throws flour at sarcophagus.
Bad news. I just noticed that Jim Groves had taken your tripping strategy into account, and the sarcophagus' statblock actually says that it can't be tripped. :) I won't retcon anything from before, but from now on, it can no longer be tripped. Maybe it was woozy from waking up, and now it has gained its footing. :)
Harmose's idea of covering up the sarcophagus' eyes is a valiant try, but it proves difficult to hit the thing exactly in the eyes. The glop does hit the sarcophagus, but somewhere on the side. I don't think there's a mechanism for called shots quite like that.
ROUND 4
The water is now 2 feet deep, which is for a typical six foot tall person little above knee level. Adjust as appropriate according to your own height and proportions.
The electricity continues zapping on top of the pedestal, but there is no one there anymore to take damage.
The sarcophagus does not exhibit great sentience or tactical planning. Though Qari might be its greatest threat, and it does try to move in her general direction, it is blocked by a solid front by Ra-Khefer and Turel, and it doesn't seem smart enough to try and circle them. Instead, it just attacks those between it and Qari. Last round it was Turel, now it is again Ra-Khefer's turn. Since the sarcophagus developed the ability to not be tripped last round, it remains on its fee-- well, upright, and makes a full attack against the oread.
Sarcophagus Bite vs Ra-Khefer: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 5 = 9
Sarcophagus Slam vs Ra-Khefer: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (19) + 5 = 24
Slam Damage: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7
Kito and Aleris race up the stairs back to A12 to examine the statues of khopesh-wielding warriors in the chamber. They are not attached to the ceiling, and they certainly do look heavy. The ladies start to push and pull, trying to see if the statues can be moved in any way. I'll say that exploration will take a round, so we'll get back to their progress next round.
Ra-Khefer
|
Round 4_____
Ra is slammed back, blood streaming thickly down his face knocked back by a powerful hit.
Shaking his head, he sloshed forward to attack it again in waist deep water.
"I do not like this trend!" He said as he swung, more powerful due to the urgency (power attack).

Deseri
Bad pun is very amusing. And I left for work and everyone went crazy with the posting! And brilliant idea with the statues! Its not normal that I try to be the voice of reason so enjoy me attempt.
Deseri presses herself to the door after her spell goes off. Oh Gods it worked...What did Kito say?
Merciful Gods they are going to destroy this place! Deseri runs after the other two. I can see them, sort of. No one is dead so we need to be carful if you are really going to do this!
preemptive strength check if it is needed. Aleris this is when you need to hulk out! Strenght check: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (13) + 1 = 14 Sorta helpful
Qari Falexia
Qari tries to center herself and steady her now shaking hands. If she couldn't hit this thing, the whole group was either going to drown, be electrocuted, or be eaten by the construct. No pressure, right?!

Kito shouts back to Deseri "Keep them in sight! We need to know that none of them are near the doors if we do this!"
Turel Garaldo
Round 4:
Turel winces inwardly as the sarcophagus strikes Ra-Khefer a telling blow.
He does not look like he can take another blow like that...
He decides to switch tactics here, sending his spear in front of the sarcophagus to try distracting it further. Unfortunately the water sloshing around his knees proves to be more of a hindrance than he expected.
Aid another, Ra-Khefer AC: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4 failed.
Deseri
Can someone repost a updated map and are you planning to launch a statue down stairs while I am downstairs! Deathwatch has a short range.
Kito the Scholar
No, we will not launch it while Deseri is downstairs. We would ask that she check that no one is too close and then run up. Once she is up we give the chunk of rock a good shove.
This is assuming we can even get something there in time...
Aleris Somciel
Yeah, we're definitely not going to flatten Deseri!
As Deseri yells some sort of status report from the bottom of the stairs, Aleris reaches the top of the stairs and makes a beeline for the nearest stone column. "Come on, help me move this!"
Str: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2 Wow.
"Urgh...it won't budge!"
Kito the Scholar
"We will need to both be in position and call on every bit of help we can if this has any chance of working!" Kito says as she gets along side Aleris.
Once in position she casts a spell on herself and then nods to Aleris, indicating she is ready.
Cast Guidance. See if it works for Strength checks.

Polux and Harmose may post their round 4 actions retroactively.
I won't retcon Harmose's Dirty Trick into round 4 since that boat has sailed, but I will just have it work delayedly in round 5 instead.
ROUND 4 SUMMARY
Sarcophagus slams Ra-Khefer for 7hp.
Ra-Khefer misses sarcophagus.
Qari hits but does not damage sarcophagus.
Turel fails at Aid Another.
Kito and Aleris run back to A12.
Deseri casts Deathwatch.
ROUND 5
The flour that Harmose threw earlier works its way to the sarcophagus' face, causing it to be blinded for this round's actions (-2AC, concealment).
There is a loud grinding noise from the direction of the northern doors, then a clack-clack-clack sound as if some machinery was clogged and malfunctioning. The flooding slows down to a trickle. The water level stops going up.
The sarcophagus shifts targets again, torn fifty-fifty between Ra-Khefer and Turel who are the most obvious targets in front of it, and goes for the monk this time.
Sarcophagus Bite vs Turel: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (14) + 5 = 19Concealment: 1d100 ⇒ 99 Hit
Damage: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8 Plus grab attempt
Sarcophagus Slam vs Turel: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (17) + 5 = 22Concealment: 1d100 ⇒ 5 Miss due to concealment
Grab: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (9) + 9 = 18 Grappled!
The sarcophagus clamps its lid onto Turel, holding on to him tightly!
Kito and Aleris' efforts pushing the statue do not produce any results yet. It seems very solidly in place.
Harmose Al-Nefer
Harmose has found what he can do! Grinning impishly, he starts throwing wet flour balls.
"You know, I'd never seen the point of food fights as a child... But now I realize that I may have missed my true calling!"
Round Four
He throws another wad of wet goopy flour at the Sarcophagus. "Forget the tripping! Hit it while it's blind. Hit it hard! We need this thing down!'
RTA Flour Goop!: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (12) + 1 = 13
Round Five
Then Turel gets bit and grabbed. "Turel!" Harmose casts grease on the monk.

"Qari, please! Hit it! Neither Turel nor Ra-Khefer can afford to take another hit!"

Turel feels the sarcophagus clamp down on his arm and nearly passes out from the pain. Gritting his teeth against the overwhelming sensation to pass out, he drops the spear and attempts to free himself from the construct.

--Round 4--
Polux will to jest or make fun remarks wears off as he sees Ra-Khefer being hit hard, and even though the gloop thrown by Harmose seems to have a modicum of effect, he does not feel this is turning for the better.
"There is one secret door in the middle of the eastern wall, and another secret door in the middle of the western wall" - he informs his companions with deathly calm - "That may prove an escape route?" - his analytical mind still in control - "Master Khefer, this is a strong, but dumb opponent we are facing - fight defensively! Or simply defend yourself completely!" - he urges.
Suggesting Full Defense.

Polux's powerful spear thrust seems to hit some sensitive spot in the sarcophagus, as it blasts through its lid, embedding itself in the enemy. As it does so, it appears to disrupt some crucial magic animating the object, as it stops, and then slowly, teeters and crashes to the ground, taking Polux's longspear with it. The longspear can be removed afterwards with some wiggling with none the worse for wear.
I'm gonna refund Turel the 8hp of damage he took in round 5, but for continuity's sake, let's say that he still got grabbed by the sarcophagus as described. So the descriptions happened as posted by you guys, but game mechanically round 5 didn't take place, so Turel is still at full health. Oh and Harmose gets the second Grease back.
It's taking the ladies a while with the statue upstairs, and while it was a good idea and I would have allowed it to work eventually, it turns out that the chamber trap defuses before they get the statue to move. The water starts to drain out of the sarcophagus chamber, and the doors make noises and then open again. While this might be a little frustrating to people who came up with a good idea, it's also a good thing in the regard that you won't end up having to do major structural damage to the place which would no doubt have upset the Pharasmin clergy. ;)
Polux
As their opponent goes down, and the water seems to drain out, Polux sits down heavily - "I saw that going awfully wrong there for a second" - he comments to the others with a chuckle.
"Hey guys" - he greets the others as the door opens again.
Harmose Al-Nefer
Harmose is overjoyed as Polux's spear strikes a killing blow on the sarcophagus. "Polux, great work!"
Climb: 1d20 - 2 ⇒ (18) - 2 = 16
With hands still goopy, he climbs down the statue and unabashedly runs through the puddles to hug his comrades and kiss them all, Osirion-style, on both cheeks. In Qari's case, he bows and kisses her hand. "Milady, you did a fine job with those blasts and did a lot of damage. You just got nervous at the end."
It's only afterwards that he realizes that he's covered everyone in wet flour streaks. "Oops. Want me to clean that up?"
When the door opens, he grins at the ladies. "Turel, Ra-Khefer, Qari and Polux fought like lions! Kito, do you think you can heal Ra-Khefer? The nasty thing took a great big bite out him!" Once the team is reunited, he looks to Aleris. "I just had a food fight with an animated sarcophagus. What's been happening with you?"
Kito the Scholar
Hearing the sounds of celebration from below, Kito says "Good, it sounds like they may have opened the door themselves!" Which means I can stop showing how hopelessly weak I am...
She straightens her clothes and starts down the stairs to rejoin the others. "Probably for the best. I'm not sure my idea would have done anything except wreck the stonework."
Aleris Somciel
1 person marked this as a favorite.
Aleris leans against the stone column for a moment to catch her breath. "Maybe so, but all things considered the stonework wasn't exactly high on my priority list just then..." she replies as she follows Kito back down the stairs. As she moves, she can already feel some burning pain in her muscles.
Oof...that's what happens without being able to stretch properly. I'll probably need a soak in the tub before tomorrow.
Normally she might have been rather alarmed by the sight of five dripping wet companions, one of them injured and another covered in flour. But at Harmose's words, she simply bursts into peals of laughter - partly at the ridiculousness of the situation they'd just experienced and partly from sheer relief that everyone is still alive.
"What's been happening with me?" she gasps, still laughing. "I've been discovering how many women it takes to move a stone column. The answer? A number that doesn't include the three of us!" she giggles, gesturing at herself, Kito, and Deseri.
Turel Garaldo
Turel accepts the kiss graciously from Harmose. "Well done, my brother. I did not think to consider blinding the thing. I did not even know it HAD eyes on it!"
He nods in greeting to the others. "Harmose is overexaggerating with his praise. All I did was keep it occupied for a moment." He smiles briefly at the others relieved to see none of them the worse for wear.
He then turns to face Ra-Khefer with a brief flash of irritation on his face before he takes a calming breath.
Be gentle here. He did fight bravely.
He bows in acknowledgement to Ra-Khefer. "You fought well against a difficult opponent. Well done. You may now offer your devotion to the Pharaoh...at this time!" There is an odd inflection on the last words there.
Bluff: 1d20 ⇒ 11

Chuckling at Aleris's joke, Kito gets out the wand and approaches Ra-Khefer.
"Boo-Boo Be Gone!" she calls out as she touches his injury with the tip of the wand.
CLW: 8 + 1 = 9
Taking a moment to look him over, she then proudly announces "That seems to have done it!"
Sense Motive: 1d20 ⇒ 7 Perfect!
She appears totally oblivious to any of the other conversations going on around her.
Deseri
Deseri slow moves down the stairs with the other two, slowly getting angrier. The best things are with the dead they say! I am traveling with a bunch of fools! Intent on yelling at them he words of wrath die a brutal death on her lips at the mention of a food fight. Her mouth hangs open as she takes in the sight of her soaked and floured companions. What?
Sense Motive: 1d20 ⇒ 20 Did not expect that!
Deseri's gaze lingers on Turel, He seems rather agitated...And wet, very wet... Focus they are all wet and had a rather unpleasant fight. In the water which is clinging to all of them. Shut up sand brain!

Qari plops down on the stairs out of range of any of the electricity bolts. "If there is anything else like that around this place, I think I'm just going back home and creating water for the village for the rest of my life," she mutters with a smile. She was huffing and puffing took easily to pay any attention to any hurt feelings in the group.
She did nod at Harmose, however. "Clever thinking with the goop in its well, eyes, I guess. I'd have never thought of that in a hundred years."
She greeted the other ladies as they made their entrance into the room. "I'd rather been trying to push down a statue than what we've been tussling with here. That was a ightmare."
Ra-Khefer
|
With the last blow, the sarcophagus collapsed and Ra started feeling the immense bruse on one entire side of his body. He staggered back through the draining water to lean against the wall and rest.
"An excellent blow Polux! My thanks. That was a near run thing."
"You may now offer your devotion to the Pharaoh...at this time!"
Ra shook his head.
"Bah. This is obviously a false tomb trap. Now at least. Devotions are offered to the actual tomb." He gritted out. When Kito healed him, he relaxed and stood up.
"My thanks miss Kito." He said bowing.
He looked around at the false tomb more closely.

"That was close master Khefer" - Polux nods back - "If it hadn't been for your resilience, there would have been no time to bring it down"
Sense Motive: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (6) + 5 = 11
He notices the particular wording as Turel speaks, but has nothing to add for the time being.
Chuckling at Aleris's joke, Kito gets out the wand and approaches Ra-Khefer.
"Boo-Boo Be Gone!" she calls out as she touches his injury with the tip of the wand.
Again Polux can't help but chuckle at the activation words as he stands up, staring at the room they find themselves in - "And gone Boo-Boo is" - he pipes in.
Turning around, he wastes no further time in getting back into action, cautiously approaching the secret door closest to him (Eastern?) as the others exchange a few words, and doing his thing.
Perception Eastern door take 20: 20 + 5 = 25
Moving across the room to the western door, he goes through the same process - "I believe you won us the day here" - Polux does not miss the chance to compliment Qari.
Perception Western Door take 20: 20 + 5 = 25
Peering past Ra into the false tomb, Kito mentions "I hope the real one is a bit more dry."
"And the sarcophagus less hungry" - he chips in while checking the door.
Aleris Somciel
Sense Motive: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (3) + 8 = 11
Aleris laughter quickly fades as she senses the underlying tension in Turel's voice. "At any rate, I'm glad you're all okay. Being stuck outside and not able to help was...scary." Her voice trembles slightly on the last word, but she smiles and quickly adds, "Kito had a good idea though; we were trying to push one of those stone columns down the stairs to break open the doors. I'm glad it didn't have to come to that though, since I doubt the Pharasmins would've appreciated us wrecking the place."
She looks around at the broken sarcophagus as well as the small puddles of water dotting the floor of the room. "Well, anymore than we already have, I mean."

Guidance, lasts 1 minute so shouldn't be a problem provided we go through once the door is open. If it expires, she will do it again (in the same order) once it looks like the group is almost ready to go through the door.
Polux
As both doors are unlocked, Polux bows down with a smile - "The doors are open ladies and gentlemen"
Qari Falexia
Qari clambers to her feet. "Alright. Let's do this. If there is another sarcophagus, don't be surprised if I run the other way, though."
Does anyone have any channels in the party? Qari is pretty beat up.
