Qari's kinetic blast fails to affect the iron cobra. It survives to the end of round 2, and gets to make an attack. It spends a move action to clear the flour from its eyes, and then goes on to attack the enemy that has caused it the most damage so far, which is Polux.
Iron Cobra Attack vs Polux: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (19) + 3 = 22
Damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6 plus poison
Black Adder Venom: Bite—injury; save Fort DC 11; frequency 1/round for 6 rounds; effect 1d2 Con damage; cure 1 save.
You may post round 3 actions.

Round 3
Aleris cringes as the cobra whips around and sinks its fangs into Polux, but she feels confident that they can win against this metal monstrosity.
"Keep it up! We won't let a metal snake get the best of us!" she calls out as she swings her morningstar yet again.
Attack (Morningstar; Divine Favor, Flanking w/Kito): 1d20 + 1 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 1 + 1 + 2 = 15
Damage: 1d8 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 + 1 = 3
Turel Garaldo
Round 3:
Turel does not waste his breath in response here, instead seeking a weak spot in the iron cobra's defenses.
Attack, Spear (Flank w/Polux): 1d20 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 2 + 2 = 13; damage: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7
Harmose Al-Nefer
Samy, can you roll the 50% total concealment miss chance on the Cobra's hit on Polux?
Harmose aims an acid splash straight at the Iron Cobra.
RTA, Acid Splash: 1d20 + 1 - 4 ⇒ (16) + 1 - 4 = 13
Damage: 1d3 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
Acid Splash ignores SR, so if this hits, it all goes through.

Round 3__________
Ra gasped as Kito healed him for 5. He nodded his thanks at her as he stepped towards the Iron Cobra.
"And. We. ARE. UNBREAKABLE!!" He shouted as he swung his hammer high with all his might.
greathammer power attack: 1d20 + 4 - 1 ⇒ (17) + 4 - 1 = 20 for a possible 1d8 + 3 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 3 + 2 = 13 crush damage.

Unbreakable? The will may be, but the body is going to need a bit more mending I think.
Kito gives Ra-Khefer a strange look, then applies the wand to him again.

Thanks for reminding me, Harmose! I was thinking about the concealment at some point but I guess it dropped out of my thought process somewhere along the line.
Concealment vs Polux: 1d100 ⇒ 59 High is hit low is miss
The attack against Polux goes through the concealment.
Between Harmose's acid splash and Ra-Khefer's powerful greathammer attack, the iron cobra is sizzled and crushed, shattering into bits that are strewn across the sacrophagus. It is destroyed.
Combat is over. Just Polux's poison save to go.
Polux
1 person marked this as a favorite.
Hey! The cobra doesn't know it was me causing the most damage. She was blind! Just admit you want to kill me Samy :P
Also, since she cleaned the gloop, I don't think there is a miss chance? Anyways:
The bite is a strong and vicious one - Polux knows it almost immediately as he cringes in pain, even as his companions take the monster down.
Fortitude: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
"We win" - he stammers, leaning on the wall for support.
Harmose Al-Nefer
Seeing Polux fall against the wall, Harmose runs up to the man. "Suck the poison from his wound before he takes more damage!"
If you beat the poison's DC 11 on untrained heal, you can aid another for +2 on Polux's next fortitude save... Together we can do this!
Untrained Heal: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (4) - 1 = 3 or maybe not...
Harmose attempts to demonstrate, but just gets a mouthful of blood and gags. He spits the blood out and steps back. "By Isis's heaving bosom, I'm no good at this. Aleris, can you show them how it's done?"
Polux
If you beat the poison's DC 11 on untrained heal, you can aid another for Polux's next fortitude save... Together we can do this!
I had no idea that could be done - where do you learn these things? :D
Kito the Scholar
1 person marked this as a favorite.
Kito quickly sheaths her dagger and casts her blessing on Polux. She continues to do this until he manages to shake off the poison.
Cast Guidance. You can take +1 to your next save. She will cast it again provided you stay conscious and still need it.
As for Heal skill and Poison, I think you need someone to roll heal and then others can Aid Another on that Heal check.
Task: Treat Poison, DC: Poison's save DC.
Treat Poison: To treat poison means to tend to a single character who has been poisoned and who is going to take more damage from the poison (or suffer some other effect). Every time the poisoned character makes a saving throw against the poison, you make a Heal check. If your Heal check exceeds the DC of the poison, the character receives a +4 competence bonus on his saving throw against the poison.
Since Guidance and the skill both give a Competence bonus, you can only apply one or the other. Although Kito has Heal skill, unless I can take 10 it is better to give a guaranteed +1 than make it 30% +0, 70% +4.
Aleris Somciel
Aleris makes a face at the thought of another mouthful of poison but moves to do as Harmose asks. However, she stops and gives Kito a questioning look as she attempts to bolster Polux's body with magic. "Will that be enough or should I have a look?"
Aleris (and Deseri) both have a +7 to make Heal checks, but she'll go with whatever seems the most likely to work.
Kito the Scholar
"If you are skilled, it would likely be most effective if I use my blessing to bolster your skill rather than directly on Polux." Looking to Polux, she explains "The blessing is so weak, it would not combine with the aid a skilled healer gives."
I don't think you had a chance to use the Guidance I cast before we opened the door. Since I was standing right beside Polux, I went with immediately helping him.
Aleris Somciel
"Right!" Aleris nods quickly and proceeds with the attempt to remove the poison from Polux's wound before Kito's blessing wears off.
Heal (w/Guidance): 1d20 + 7 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 7 + 1 = 16 Yes! Polux gets a +4 on his next Fort save.
The training was worth it but I really hope that this isn't what I'll be remembered for after I die...
Deseri
Having seen this done many times but never doing so herself Deseri watches quietly.
Qari Falexia
Qari nods as Deseri. She didn't have any idea how to suck out poison, and really didn't want to start learning now. She waited with the others as they tried to help Polux fight off the effects of the deadly venom.
Polux

Ra-Khefer
|
Ra nodded his thanks to Kito for the healing, leaning against the wall and just breathing again.
He still isn't quite well yet, having taken Con damage from the venom, but is otherwise ready to proceed.
Kito the Scholar
Seeing that Polux has fought off the poison, Kito looks towards the group and asks "Should I completely heal those who are injured? There may still be traps or other hazards we have yet to deal with."
As she is asking this, she sheaths her dagger but keeps the wand in hand.
Harmose Al-Nefer
Harmose nods. "Yes, please. That's what the wand is for. If you stay on this team, we watch out for each other. That's part of who we are."
Then Harmose shakes Ra-Khefer's hand. "You are one very tough dwarf. I would be proud to have you on my side in any battle, Ra-Khefer of the Unbreakable Pah-Met."
He turns to the others. "Let's search the room, and find out whether this is indeed the final resting place of Akhentepi."
Kito the Scholar
Kito treats Polux's wounds, and then Ra-Khefer's.
CLW: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5 "Boo-Boo, Be Gone!" Polux still missing 1 hp

Kito the Scholar
"Chewing on some mint leaves afterwards can help a little." Kito suggests as she stores the wand.
Looking at the scattered pieces of the smashed Iron Cobra, she asks "Now that it is disabled, do you think there is anything we can recover from the snake? If we are to document our finds, I would suspect that includes any guardians."
Qari Falexia
"Are there other guardians we should worry about first? I know we are getting close to the real burial spot...I say we leave the snake be until we are sure there is nothing else nearby that might sink its fangs into us," Qari whispers, as her tail twitched nervously.
Aleris Somciel
"Mint? That's a great idea! Hopefully one of the stalls in the market will have some," the sylph smiles, making a mental note to go do some shopping later.
"And there might be more guardians or traps, but um...considering how small this room is and that we're all already in here and stomping around, I'd be a little surprised. I think this is the real burial spot," she observes. "Polux will definitely want to look at that sarcophagus before we even think of doing anything with it, though."
Turel Garaldo
Turel nods in approval at Qari's words. "She speaks truly and with wisdom. I am no expert but Akhentepi may not rest easy with being disturbed."

Harmose waves a hand.

Polux remains leaning heavily on the wall, but his breathing is less labored - "I feel better" - he reassures his companions, moving to stand up straight, looking at Aleris - "I believe you have just saved me back there. Thank you"
As the magical wand takes effect, he actually smiles broadly - "And now I am feeling much better"
The others digress about mint leaves, but he decides to take a long look at the sarcophagus.

"But... no. As tough as we are, we are not TRUELY unbreakable. I have died, after all. It is just our motto."
He looked down at his ceremonial armor with disgust.
"It is how I ended up in this beautifully painted piece of crap. I woke up in my tomb in it. I'm just lucky nobody else in the regiment wanted my greathammer as well." He said, remembering.
Kito the Scholar
Did he just say he woke up in his tomb?
Surprised by Ra-Khefer's claim, Kito asks "Do you mean you died, or just were mistaken for dead?"

Aleris blushes slightly at Polux's words. "You're welcome, but I don't know if I would go that far. I think you would've kicked the poison on your own; I just helped to speed things along is all."
She then blinks as her taste buds suddenly tingle with minty freshness. "Uh, yes actually, they do. Magic is amazing!" She smiles at the sorcerer. "Thank you. Though you might want to give a little warning in advance if you're going to make using your magic like that a habit. On the other hand, it might make for a fun joke," she says mischievously.
Still marveling at the myriad of uses that magic can be put to, she somehow manages to miss the conversation taking place between Deseri, Ra-Khefer, and Kito until the words, 'in my tomb' filter through and register in her brain. She turns her attention to her three teammates.
Wait, did Ra-Khefer just say something about having his own tomb? Maybe I need to get Harmose to use that spell on my ears, too.
A glance at Harmose quickly gives her her answer, even before the sorcerer opens his mouth to speak.
Yep, he said 'tomb'. Oh boy...

Eyes widening as Deseri stares at Ra-Khefer in shock as the others make their comments. Shaking her head and turning to glance Harmose So they both have died and come back? Don't ask to see the tomb! Just don't! That would probably be rude.

"I have died after all' and 'walked with Anubis'?" - Polux repeats aloud as he checks the sarcophagus - "I will want to hear those stories" - he smiles.

"I too have walked with Anubis in his lands. I've never known anyone else who has. Can we talk later over some of Farhaan's excellent soup at the Tooth and Hookah?"
Ra is startled, and looks at Harmose with new eyes.
"What? You as well?" He shook his head. "That is... hard to swollow as a coincidence."They did not give you your things back when they learned you lived?
"Hmph. No they did not." Growled Ra, annoyed at the memory.
"After I broke my way out of the tomb, my old comrades took one look at me and attacked! They thought I was some evil revenant, and I had to flee or fight against my own people!" He said, shaking his head sadly.| Harmose Al-Nefer |
"Me as well," Harmose meets Ra-Khefer's gaze. It's as if the whole rest of the team have faded into the distance. "There's no coincidence here at all. I think... I think we were fated to meet."
But for what purpose? What game are the gods playing with me now?
"Our cases are a bit different. You were grown. I was a child. Your friends thought you a monster..."
...while my family knew without a doubt that I had been one...
Memories hit Harmose. Memories of the hunger, of hunting people, of tasting their souls, each one different. The sweetest were laced with fear and pain...
NO!
Harmose feels the warm, furry weight of Wenet land in his hands. He cradles the little brown rabbit close, trembling, wanting nothing more than to curl into a fetal ball and cry. Instead, he touches noses with her, and breathes deeply.
He is not a monster now. Not any more. Not ever again.
"I'm sorry," he finally whispers. "This is hard to talk about. I cannot talk about it here, in a tomb, underground. I'll need sunlight and friends and maybe enough alcohol to stagger an elephant."
Turel Garaldo
Turel pauses from his state of watchfulness over Polux, and motions the man to halt his exploration of the sarcophagus.
It is important we are all focused on our mission here...and not looking either backwards or forwards here.
He speaks up softly. "Yes, I believe we are fated to be as one...it is NO happenstance we are here in this place, at this time...still we must not look past the next step too far." He turns to face Harmose, his blue eyes piercing. "Lest the scorpion that lies in wait strikes deeply. We must solve the mystery of this Tomb and see what other tales Akhentepi may tell us." He offers Harmose a brief smile. "Perhaps I may even...relax my vow and partake of your spirits, the Gods willing."
Harmose Al-Nefer
Harmose breathes in and out slowly, until Wenet headbutts him on the chin. He starts, then gives a wan smile.
"You're right. Let's solve the mysteries of this place, and then let's get back to Farhaan's for drinks and stories because we've surely earned it."
Still shaken, but making an effort to return to business, Harmose looks around.

Aleris Somciel
At a loss for what say, Aleris finally decides that maybe it's best to not say much of anything for now. "That's right; let's finish our work here and get back out into the sunlight. Then we can chatter to our heart's content."
As they begin their inspection of the room in earnest, she gives Harmose's hand a reassuring squeeze before turning her attention back to the task at hand.

Sorry for the wait, been a crazy couple of days. But here we go now.
You examine the room.
The sarcophagus contains the mummified body of Akhentepi. It wears an exquisitely crafted gold funerary mask.
The chests are well-constructed and dusty. One of the chests contains a suit of padded armor. The other chest holds a disintegrating cloth sack filled with 500 gp, as well as a small, well-preserved darkwood coffer. Inside the coffer is two potion vials, an ornate lapis and carnelian pendant, and an assortment of carnelian, lapis lazuli, and turquoise semiprecious stones.
The urns are made of bronze and appear to have once contained leaves or incense, but now hold nothing more than ashes and dust.
If you wish to go back and re-examine anything in this tomb, now is the time to say so.
I have updated the experience points spreadsheet with experience from the iron cobra and tomb completion. You are now 75% of the way to level 2.
I believe the wand should now be at 42 charges, please let me know if I'm off on that.
I have also updated the treasure list spreadsheet with the treasure from the final room. Please feel free to discuss or ask questions about any of the treasure from this tomb. Take 20 is not applicable for Appraise, but Take 10 is. Appraise must be rolled separately for each separately listed item in the document.

Harmose pauses and consults his notes. "We could use a little help (aid another Harmose) on the Masterwork Longbow and the Darkwood Coffer."

Though she first attempts to stay out of the way as Kito and Harmose give each of the items a once-over, she nods when Harmose asks the rest of them for some additional input on some of the objects. "You already know I wouldn't know much about historical value, but I maybe I can help on the aesthetic value."
