Kyson looks at Khaz and Silvio, a scared look on his face.

"I can hurt it hard, but you have got to make sure it doesn't get me! Don't let it get me!"

Assuming some for of assent from at least one of them, Kyson will delay until they are ready.

When they are ready, Kyson will move to 5' from the railing and let loose with his most fervent and angry spellprayer to date, fireball.

Fireball: Targeting away from the ship, out to sea a bit, but definitely enough to catch the ooze. 5d6 ⇒ (1, 5, 3, 1, 2) = 12 fire damage vs. DC 18 Reflex

Uh, that was less exciting...oh well, Kyson disappoints. :(

Round 3:

Kyson: 25
Khazmia: 19
Zstelian: 17
Silvio: 11
Sekathral: 10
Dargon: 10

Kyson's spell burst into a ball of fire off the hull of the ship, wreathing the flotsam below in flickering flames and giving the surrounding fog an eerie red hue momentarily as Khazmia stands guard behind him.

Zstelian throws a pair of daggers, one of them sinking into a chunk of wood on the ooze, but the other seeming to land firmly in the ooze itself, which seems to twitch away from the blade. Sekathral throws his fire, but it splashes into the water, the vial never breaking. Didn't roll high enough to overcome its concealment.

As Silvio also stands guard, you hear Dargon call out. "I'm going to get some crossbows. Hold tight, lads!"

A tendril of the creature again flies onto the boat, slamming painfully into Sekathral 24 hp and sticking fast grappled. The incredibly sticky mass begins pulling the elf toward the sea below. Give me a strength check (DC 26) to avoid being pulled into the water.

When I asked earlier I thought you said the limb wasn't attackable?

RPG Superstar 2012 Top 16

I decided that since it had latched on to someone -- and wasn't just extending and retracting -- it didn't make sense that it couldn't be attacked. I think by rules it shouldn't be able to be a target -- it's considered reach -- and had a message to that affect typed out, actually. But now that it's not just falling back into the sea (or at least not until it brings Sekathral with it) that felt silly.

Kyson: 25
Khazmia: 19

Silvio: 11
Sekathral: 10
Dargon: 10
Antagonist: 8

Kyson's spells seem to have no effect, as the creature remains stuck fast to Sekathral and his ball of fire splashes harmlessly into the ocean before the young priest backs away from the edge of the ship.

Khazmia's slightly more effective, her wand sending a small shock through the ooze's tendril, though she has to give a strong tug to free it again as it almost adheres to the tendril.

Zstelian launches a couple daggers into it, scoring directly into the limb, where the daggers become stuck instead of falling to the deck. Oozes can't be critted, however.

Silvio slashes at it, and barely is able to get his blade free on his follow through. Dargon, hearing the cries of the group, comes charging back, sinking his axe head into the tendril before easily pulling it free.

Sekathral goes to slash at it, but the elf's aim is thrown off as he's pulled into the water below.

The blast is followed by two javelins from Zstelian, the second of which seems to find its mark, though the first is lost to the sea.

Silvio snatches a dagger from Tavey, who's hovering nearby watching, and leaps into the sea. His swan dive heroics are only marred by his blade missing the creature. I allowed the mechanics, since I figured rule of cool worked better in this case, despite it ending up being a miss.

I figured. It was worth a shot.

Zstelian unpacks his rope and tosses one end over the railing into the water below.

"Get back up here so Kyson can calm down", the old ranger suggests.

Silvio is about to speak as a wave catches the chelaxian unawares and he disappears between the waves.

Swim check: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (2) + 6 = 8
Good bye, cruel world

Don't know what happens but I rolled a few more swim checks if they're needed. If I can I would like to get to the ship, climb up by using a rope (hopefully taking 10 on climbing for a total of 10 + 1 = 11, and then retrieve my sword as I call for a boat to be lowered down so we can go and check on the Sea Wyrven)

A bunch of swimchecks:

Swim check: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (13) + 6 = 19
Swim check: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (2) + 6 = 8
Swim check: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (11) + 6 = 17
Swim check: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (4) + 6 = 10
Swim check: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (18) + 6 = 24
Swim check: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (7) + 6 = 13
Swim check: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (10) + 6 = 16
Swim check: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (17) + 6 = 23

Kyson waits for the swimmers to climb up or others to go get the swimmers.

You eventually manage to get everyone back on the ship and the rest of the night passes without event.

Lavinia gives order the next morning, once the fog has cleared, to set sail again and the ships restart their journey south along the Garundi coast.

Zstelian points and Tosh stands upright on his shoulder to do the same.

"Tribal ornaments", he explains.

"I hope it's one of the friendly ones and not one of the demon-ape worshiping ones", the old ranger says with a bit of dark humor.

Kyson looks over at the elf who just joined him at the railing, doing a double take.

"Wait! Seka...you're alive?! I thought the ooze ate you! You're alive!?!!"

Kyson gives the elf a big hug. "I didn't see you come out of the water. Wow."

"....so yeah...what's going on over there, eh? Trees?"

Sekathral is slightly surprised when Kyson hugs him and only just stops himself from checking his pockets afterwards. However, he returns the salute, then replies to the cleric and Khaz.

"What Zstelian said. The locals like to hang stuff from the trees, by the looks of things. Hopefully things, rather than folks..."

The adorned trees quickly pass by as the Sea Wyvern makes good time and the rest of the day passes without incident.

The nice weather continues the next day, as you see a half-dozen large reptilian shapes wing off the coast of the continent, coming swiftly through the sky toward the two ships.
