Kyson's ball of fire lands on the ground next to the basilisk as he manages to come close but not close enough with his eyes covered.

Silvio has more success, though, as his blade stabs into the thing as he steps to the side. Still it's not far enough as Zstelian -- trying not to his his companion -- throws two javelins wide of the basilisk.

Khaz and Sekathral are similarly unsuccessful as their covered eyes let it easily avoid their attacks. Khaz, I'm treating squinting as averted eyes, so the creature is treated as having concealment from you, i.e. 50 percent miss chance

The creature continues to go after Silvio, trying to end the source of its pain. Its mighty jaws again chomp onto the Chelaxian, but this time his armor isn't enough to protect him as the creature's fangs rip into his flesh. 9 hp

Basic Role-playing. Call of Cthulhu, RuneQuest and a bunch of others but those two, and a swedish rpg named Mutant, are the incarnations I've played. You roll a d100 and try to get below your skill value.

Just feels more intuitive that low on a d100 == good.

"Oh, sorry,!" Urol squeaks. "I thought it would be extra protection!" The gnome seems at a bit of a loss about what to do.

The Chelaxian's blade cuts another slice in the creature's hide and Khaz's touch seems to cause it to stumble a little, though it was hardly very graceful even before.

Zstelian, I'm a bit confused. If you move back within 30 feet, you'll need a Fort save. Unless you're staying in Urol's fog (which is possible). If you're squinting, you have a 50 percent chance to not need a save; if you're not, you've got no miss percentage above, though you still would've missed the basilisk...

Kyson watches as the miracle he requested from Sarenrae is partially completed.

"Welcome back", Zstelian says with a nod.

"Let's hope there aren't more of those things in the ruins."

Kyson, holding Khaz's hand in silent prayer, is overjoyed when he begins to feel warmth as Urol's magic salve begins to work. His hands reach upward, first towards the forearm, then nursing the elbow, then the shoulder then moving across to the br...*cough* Kyson jumps back.

"You're alive! You're alive again!! Praise Sarenrae!" Kyson looks about, thinking quickly. He tears off his head piece and holy symbol and tosses them to the ground.

"Use them as needed! Give thanks to Sarenrae everyday! Remember me and my holy symbol! Save damsels for me!"

Kyson looks to the sun, posing for his statue, as he wants to be facing the warmth of the sun as his prayers have come to pass...and he asked for Sarenrae to take him instead.

"Kyson, I....Kyson what are you doing?!" Blame it on a slowly softening brain, but Khazmia has only just realized the trajectory of Kyson's emphatic prayer when he jumps away again.

"I...yes, I'm alive, Kyson, Praise the Lady Herself." She smiles at her priest but her confusion grows.

"WAIT! What are you doing?!?!?" She gathers up both the head piece and the holy symbol and tries to talk sense into him. "Close your eyes, at least!"

Kyson waits for a few more moments to be turned to stone.

"Hold on, Khaz. I think I should be turning to stone now," Kyson holds his pose and waits.

...
...
...

"Oh. Maybe I'm not turning to stone...which is good because I didn't want to go that way anyway. However, the important thing is that you're back, Khaz!" Kyson says as he quickly picks up his headband and holy symbol, trying to scrub off any dirt or much on either.

"Uhm...yeah...so we won! And you're not dead! Sarenrae blesses us!" Kyson goes and checks out the basilisk, taking pains to avoid eye contact, just in case.

"We totally killed it. Look at these burn marks. I helped." Kyson looks to the cave where it slithered from.

"We should check out that cave, huh? Maybe it has treasure or damsels inside."

Kyson shoos Seka and Silvio into the cave from which the basilisk emerged. Kyson will cast Detect Magic and concentrate as he walks.

Zstelian retrieves his scattered weaponry from the ground and from the beast's corpse.

"Treasure, maybe. There's probably no damsels unless you want a statue like what Khaz was. Silvio, you good to go on? You're bleeding an awful lot."

The passageway the basilisk came out of is collapsed, like two of the other passageways from the clearing, allowing no egress any farther into the ruins.

Perception 25:

You do find a slightly damaged marble statuette of a reclining humanoid figure with head turned and legs drawn up and a small silver pyramid, both of which could be valuable.

Passageways that don't end in rubble are to the east and northeast.

What are the ceilings like in here?

"Let's head that way, Silvio", the old ranger says while pointing east.

The areas you've been in so far don't really have a ceiling; they're rubble. The walls -- and presumably the 10-foot-high ceiling in the passages you can see -- are made of blocks of unmortared stone covered with a flaking layer of stucco decorated with ancient images of men and animals.
