Linah doesn't detect any more specific evil from below, but she knows her abilities can't reach anywhere near close to the bottom of the crater which is 150 feet below.
As you make plans, Kyson suddenly realizes he notices a crab-like creature near the head, though just as quickly it seems to notice you all and disappears.

”Thank you, but I do not think that will be necessary”, Linah replies to Khazmia. ”I will feel more at ease if I am able to maneuver freely, should something unexpected happen.” Aided by her newly gifted slippers she descends the slope with Sekathral and Zstelian, keeping a watchful eye on the strange black matter at the bottom of the pool matter.
Standing with both feet on the lower plateau Linah begins to look for something nearby akin to a small stone to toss into the sludge to see what happens. (Should she find such an item she will first cast Light on it and then toss it into the sludge)
Looking at the combat map it seems that there is a four(ish) square edge to the black sludge when we climb down the hole, is that correct?

With Kyson and Khazmia close by, Zstelian, Seka and Linah begin to make their way down the steep path when the elf suddenly calls a halt. As he gets closer, he realizes some of the green mold is actually dangerous, a cousin to yellow mold, which unleashes poisonous spores if disturbed.
Making your way over the rubble to the edge of the deepest part of the crater, Linah tosses a lighted stone into the ooze, which ripples as the stone sinks to the bottom.
Linah, are you talking about to the left of the map? I think that's actually more rubble. The ooze is the aqua-ish water in the circle in the center of the crater.

* Is the whole pool filled with blackish sludge? On the map it looks like water :)
* What is the black stuff on the map (like on the other side of the stone from Sekathral)
* The brown stuff in the pool, is that (solid) soil, or is that something else?

Yes, the whole pool is filled with blackish sludge. I agree it looks like water, but from multiple reads, as far as I can figure it's black sludge -- so that's how we're going to play it.
Lichen. And that stone is actually a really big mushroom that dwarfs said elf.
That is, as far as you can tell, solid soil.

Zstelian's chakrams mostly fall short but one finds its range, digging into the horrid creature's tough carapace.
Kyson's fire blasts it and Khazmia finally finds her range, missing with one fiery ray again before hitting with two more, drawing screeches of pain. Seka's bullet however seems to bounce off it harmlessly while Linah closes in, circling around the massive cracked stone head to get under the flying beast.
It concentrates for a second then fires a lightning bolt that sizzles through Kyson and Khazmia, just missing Zstelian and Sekathral, though they can smell the burning ozone momentarily. 34 electric damage, DC 18 save for 1/2
