Game Master TheNine

So over a decade ago a buddy and I while doing crazy things in the army were working on a game system over an old sci fi game on the computer from back in the day. While cleaning out the attic I found some of the notes and want to actually give it a shot.

Seeking souls (4 to 6 maybe) Who want to get involved in a Beta version of a scifiction game. There will be Pirates, and Space mecha, and Aliens, and Evil robots, and clones and space exploration.

While I have notes for a lot of different races and classes to keep this simply til all the bugs are worked out I would like to start off with everyone the 'same'. . . And by same I mean the game is going to start with the players all being clones of old famous mech pilot war heros.

Each of you will have diffent starting skills (or the same if you want.) with a different starting mech.

Battle Maps will be very rough, im still working on finding a way I like to display them.

More info will follow but opening things up to see if there is any interest.

Liberty's Edge

This sounds potentially very cool. Looking forward to seeing more info.

Okay, I'm game. I would play the clone of either Max Sterling or Char in a heartbeat.

Sovereign Court

I just saw this thread, but I am very interested. If possible I'd like to be a clone of Rick Hunter from the 1985 Robotech series.

Grand Lodge

I'm always interested in trying something new. I don't know who I would be a clone of but I would like to throw my name into the hat.

DOt, this is the kind of game I love, Im in

Should have a half dozen or so "donors" worked up for you all to choose from that will have different starting skills.

Basically it will work stat wise.

Choose one of the genebanks to clone, chose a style of mech (those details will also be provided) and spend some bonus points.

There will also be some pathfinder style adventured to go on so be ready to choose a class therr.

Sovereign Court

Sounds good to me.

I'm interested to get a look at the mechanics of your system.

Dark Archive

You had me at "Space Mecha". =D

The majority of mech combat will be done with simple d 100 rolls , make it underneath your current skill level you succeed the out of mech things will take place like normal pathfinder (read as d 20)

My three day weekened turned into a 1 day weekend but i still hope to have things up by the end of the week sorry for the delays.

no worries.

Just out of curiosity, how open are you to having your rules be a "work in progress"?

I'm just asking because I have some experience in game design, and I know that working off some notes found in the attic and then thrown into the maelstrom of play with actual people can be something of a whirlwind. Hence, if you are open to working on it in some areas that might do with some buffing or re-wording, that could be a good thing to know beforehand.

Jus' sayin'. =)

Okay I just got word that I am being transferred from one job location to another so i am putting this on hold, I have written down your names and will totally be opening this up in a few months (probably sometime in January) Just with the moving half across the state and the holidays upcoming i dont think i will have the time to do it justice but this will be reopening worry not!

Sovereign Court

Just keep me informed.

Dotting if it isn't too late ;)

Totally not too late :)

Interest!

Most attacks and Defenses are based under percentage Dice, and you will want to be under the target number. All attacks are via skill roles in this case for instance if you were to say be firing at a moving target at long range with lasers it be something like

Laser skill 65% - long range 10% - moving 10% for a total number of 45%.

That was just a sample number, certain skills and traits chosen increase the number as will training, weapon quality and other eventual bonuses. I almost have 6 full different 'heros' and 2 standard clones to chose your base 'class' from. Will probably have that all worked up before christmas.

As for style of mechs their will be a few base starters that of course over the course of the game will be upgraded (i assume you will want shiny new stuff, and Balance is totally not needed if you all want to rock laser mechs fine etc...)

The starting mech types (will have actually set ups for them soon)

Crow Class - light scouting/command mech
Will have a mix of lasers, cannons, missles and 'special' weapons in the light to medium range, Will have devices and features that enhance the other mechs in the group (better targeting, etc...)
Mule Class - Heavy mining mech -
while not designed for combat will be able to take a lot of damage and will produce the most mining which equals money though all mechs have the ability to mine, it comes done to how much storage and how fast they can get it done.
Bear Class - Medium Ballistic mech -
Entirely ballistic based attacks which do minimal damage against heavily shielded targets will always do some damage. Is entirely possible to run out of ammo (for the bigger guns)in a long battle. Has a much higher output for damage than lasers
Scorpion Class - Medium laser mech -
Most accurate type of weapon, shields entirely negate laser damage up to the point where shields are melted through. medium scale damage versus armor. 'Infinite' Ammo
Dragon Class - Medium Missle Mech
Missles are highest damage output entirely negated by shields (at first at least) Highly Accurate unless specific countermeasures are in place, Very Low ammo count

Sweet!

Just of note, while designing your ruleset, if you have a choice of making something rule "heavy" or rule "light", -always- choose light. Like, it's better to only have two ranges: short and long, than four: short, medium, long, extreme. More ranges means more time just finding what number you need to roll, and that's before determining what dive you'll actually roll.

Will the mechs be customization? If so, how? Will you be using the "slot" system like Mechwarrior online uses, or...well there are so many other ways to do I'll just leave the question there. =)

How much will quality of equipment impact? Like, is the Mule always going to be awful, or will the income eventually allow you to kit it out enough so that you'll surpass even an optimized mech of another class?

I assume we can only have one mech?

Can't wait!! =3

Dark Archive

Do you have any documents for the game world online yet? You mentioned different starting skills. Like, do you have a document outlining those?

And what about the in-game universe? Are we looking at a classic Battletech universe, or something more far-fetched, or....? =)

This sounds like a blast, I'm amateur designing game systems myself and helping a fellow nerd with beta testing is just up my alley.

i'll have 4 to 6 clone templates for you all to peruse up sometime this weekend Yes you can use the same template. :)

To answer your questions Atlas2112

1. Ive never actually played mechwarrior online, but weapon slots will be upgradeable or downgradable depending on needs.

2. The quality of your systems and weapons will start off poor to average but that too will be able to be upgraded and improved. So No the Mule wont always be awful :)

3. At first everyone will start out with just the one mech, but as time passes and you all become richer and richer whos to say how many mechs or designs you may come up with?

4. I will have a list of the starting skills coming around about the time i have the starting clone types.

Sovereign Court

So are we going to be stating up both a mecha AND a pilot, just the pilot to start with a basic mecha, or stating the mecha with a basic pilot?

What about the clones' personality. If 2 or more players start with the same clone...then there should be a common personality trait, similar to identical twins

Sovereign Court

Seeing as it is now January I was wondering if any new information is becoming available for this game?
