However, I FULLY understand if that means fairly little to you as a GM for this game, and if the red flag leaves you uneasy about having me in the line up, then by all means, feel free to say no. No hard feelings. (I pride myself on being hard to irritate or anger, so I mean that.) I can safely say I would be willing to jump into this and hang on wholeheartedly, but again, I know that isn't a very sturdy platform (especially if I'm playing the guy making sure nobody gets decapitated by traps... just a... moderately crucial job).
As GM, you have the final word and I will respect it regardless of the outcome. Like I said, you have my deepest apologies and promise that that will not happen again, for what those are worth. :)

mbauers |

That makes sense—fair point.
Minor thing—Your HP says “Toughness +1” but it should say “Con +1”. Very minor, but in case you later get the Toughness feat, it could matter. Another minor thing—near your spells prepared it says your specialty is necromancy, but elsewhere it says Conjuration (and it looks like that’s the correct one).
The character is certainly interesting—I like the background and she can be integrated into any group given her motivations. She does seem to have a “lack of scruples” as you also noted in her backstory. Done right this could lead to interesting RP with the other PCs. Do you think it would lead to too much strife/could possibly clash with the interests of other PCs who have perhaps more noble intentions? Would she be able to work with others to achieve a greater goal than she could alone?
Thanks, sounds good!
Thank you, that does help. I definitely wasn’t fishing for an apology or trying to pry into your life, it was just something I had to bring up. If the situation was reversed, I’d want the GM to let me know that could potentially impact my status. And as a GM I don’t want to let people down, since they’ve spent a lot of time and effort make characters and the unenviable task of choosing people rests on my shoulders. ;-)

Ishia of the Sands |

@mbauer: I've corrected the errors you noted.
The thing I imagine about Ishia is that she's unscrupulous, but not necessarily disloyal. I'm not planning on having her go out of the way to screw over other players. More like, if there's a question of doing something self-serving versus doing something selfless, she's going to vote for self-serving, but I'll still go along with whatever the party wants to do.

Smiler |

OK here is my first draft of Volar.
I had to redo a bunch of stuff because i forgot to upload to dropbox the background i typed up on my lunch break at work... oops.
He's based around a character i tried to play for PFS. Unfortunately that character passed away on his first mission so i never really got to work out what his character was like and what he could do past level one.
If you have any change suggestions or you spot any mistakes please let me know DM.

Thinking of an acolyte for the Empyreal Guardians tasked with investigating the opening of the necropolis in Wati by his organization who are concerned of secrets best left buried. To outward appearances she's just another elven mercenary. Skilled with a bow, knows a few spells. This makes her an ideal member for this task since she doesn't have the aura of good that most Guardians develop.
Damage is 1d8+2 + 1d3 @ level 1 on a full round attack, and 1d8+2, 1d8+2+1d3 @ level 2. Pretty calm.

I just wanted to let everyone know that submissions will officially be closed at 9:00 PM Central US time on Thursday, 3/10.
Then I’ll take probably a day to pick the PCs, then we’ll have you guys make your collective background cohesive and probably start next week on Monday.
I don’t own that book—could you post a breakdown of what the mereitaur race is (fluff) and what the mechanical benefits are?
Sounds good.
Looks good
Mechanical things—you get Power Attack for free as a bonus feat (house rule). Is that really what the Tainted Soul drawback is? Yeesh, that’s steep! I might tweak it to make it not so debilitating. Your skill bonuses seem wrong—you have a 10 Int, but it looks like you’re penalizing yourself as though you had a -2 Int bonus.
Background—what is Puq’s motivation to enter the necropolis with a group of like-minded adventurers?
I really like your build—it’s similar to how I would do it. I like that your stats are well-rounded and I’m interested to see how an Eldritch Guardian plays out. It’s definitely solid. I also like how you wove in her background into her crunch as well as a motivation for delving into the necropolis. Great job!
Thanks, looks good.
I agree, that one fits better.
Everything looks good!
Looks good so far—I’m not familiar with Paths of War, so I’ll have to check out the Warder class in greater detail when I have a little more time. Just let me know when you finalize a background/story tie-in.
Thanks!
The profile says “see statblock”, but I don’t see anything in there. Did you forget to copy/paste?

Hycindor |

I figured the Hero Lab description about sums it up:
"Mereitaurs have only one or two of the features of Taur: horns, hooves, and tail. Each Mereitaur is different in their exact form. Facially, while about half of all Mereitaurs share the "face of Taur," their bullish features are often less pronounced and some could often pass for human."
Type: Humanoid (Mereitaur)
Con Mod: +2
Wis Mod: +2
Cha Mod: -2
Speed: 30
Size: Medium
Automatic Languages: Common, Giant, Taurian
Racial Abilities: Darkvision, Direction Sense (always know what is north), Methodical (+2 Craft and Profession, +2 to Knowledge after spending an hour researching through books), Taurian Heritage (pick 2: +5 base speed, +2 perception, gain a gore attack), Taurian Immunities (immune to magical confusion, daze, and maze spell), Taurian Weapon Familiarity (proficient in Battle- and Greataxes)
I chose perception and base speed for the Heritage one. Effectively a Mereitaur is a cross between a human and a minotaur. Also, I plan on building a backstory too, but the clinic I run has been quite hectic lately so it's take some time away from my nerdery. I have it in my head, just need to get it typed up. I will discuss it with you via PM if you're more interested in the character. Hycindor is already fleshed out, and the 3rd I submitted (Malias Uthender) is also a backstory in progress. Regardless, I would make sure I have one for whoever if you happen to go with one of mine.

Sarabian |

Hello! I'd like to submit Kellara, a half-orc Necromancer (Life), for consideration. She was also built for a prior Mummy's Mask campaign, but wasn't selected. I need to change her from a 20-point build to a 15-point build, but she otherwise seems mechanically ready to go!

Jarall Ma-Mel-Aket |

hello mbauers I'd like to submit Jarall Ma-Mel-Aket. He is a corpse hunter ranger whose tribe has pledged to eradicate the undead from the lands of Avistan.
Thanks and happy gaming!

SnowmanInHell |

I think the expectation is for the PC taking it to have more in the wy of Con/base fort save. It's likely to bite me in the rump...so I might adjust my attributes a hair to at least have a Con mod, and/or might spend a feat on a bonus to Fort save down the road.
Mostly I was just thinking something along the lines of Raistlin from DL...though not quite so debilitating.
As for the motivation, he was recently informed of his bloodline conection to the royalty of Osirion. I honestly haven't worked out the details yet, but I'm thinking a son or daghter of the man who bought Puq let it slip, "My family is so rich we don't have any old common slaves..." which got him curious and snooping around. He eventually found something in his owner's records, though it was circumstantial. When he heard about the chance to explore the tombs he figured here was an opportunity to find real proof, so he escaped.
I'm leaving a good portion of the specifics vague right now, as I don't know how much of it you'd like to incorporate if I'm selected. Maybe Puq's owner lives in a distant town, and doesn't have th reach to make any waves in the campaign and this is all truly just back story...or maybe the owner lives here in Wati and wants his slave, selected specifically based on the bloodline connection, back so will be a subplot.
As for the skills, I'll straighten those out. At one point I dumped Int to get a 12 in Con and Wis, but decided against it.
Thanks for the feedback :)

Lasciel en Alassandra di Marat |

During the confusion, as the tents burned and their parents fought, Lasciel and her sister Lillian were seperated. Lasciel ended up buried in the sands outside the village, and would have died if not for the intervention of a cleric of Desna attracted by the glow of the still burning tents and the sudden interests of the night moths. She took the young elf away, and traveled with her to Qadira. There she found her a home in the care of the only elf she knew, the Mage Padish di Saran en Lentalla. Padish agreed to mentor the young elf, dispite his misgivings. She was talented, but focused on what she'd lost. Her interest in martial matters understandable, but not his own. His interests in the old and the dead were similarly not hers, and they had an uneasy time of things. Still, she's never forgotten the debt she owes the strange cleric or the gruff mage.
When she reached her majority, she left the care of Padish, to their mutual relief, and sought out the militant order of Sarenrae, where she learned some of the sword, and excelled at the bow. Sarenrae's paladins had high hopes for her despite her somewhat fey behaviors, and had her past been different she might have felt called to serve with them. It was not to be, however. The dawnflower disciples attracted the eye of many organizations throughout golarion, and one of them recruited her from the temple steps with a simple phrase. "Lillian lived" said the black haired silver eyed woman, and Lasciel followed her. So changed her fate, and she walked from the square without a backward glance, ignorant of the cloud of butterflies that settled where she had sat.
Her current employers, the shadowy arm of the Empyreal Guardians, offered her assistance finding her sister in return for her assistance investigating her homeland. She agreed, reluctantly, to return to the desert. When she finished her tea and heard what the nameless woman had to say, she returned to the temple. Soon after she asked to travel to her homeland to learn more of the history Sarenrae before resuming her novitae. Her superiors in the dawnflower were surprised, but not displeased. They arranged for her travel, and to document her membership as a member of the church of the dawnflower, as well as introductions to the local mercenaries investigating the tombs. In return, they've asked her to take rubbings of any mention of the goddess of the sun, no matter the name she bears.
Firming up the crunch now.

GM Bauers |

Thanks Ash!
And now...
Recruitment is closed, and the results are in!
Petra Gritstone, revenge-seeker
Mirri Massadeq, semi-retired burglar
Say'ri Al Bashere, loyal wife and temple guardian
Ishia of the Sands, unscrupulous conjurer
Can you four please join me in the discussion thread? I'll post some info in an hour or two.
I just wanted to say thank you to everyone who took the time to create an awesome character and apply--if I had the free time to run two or three tables, I definitely would. Perhaps someone else could use this recruitment thread to run a MM game, as there are many great characters here. The decision was not easy, trust me.

Have fun those selected. I would love to get into a game if another DM wants to try to run one from this recruitment. I fear I might be guilty in hind sight of creating a good 5th PC for a 4 PC game. While I like this character, and he would be darn handy to have around, I am not sure he totally handles any specific roll completely.

I did that for the last WotR game that came up... problem is I love the character so I'll just submit her again next time and have the same problem...
