Tale of Days Current Battlemap City Map

No roll to disarm from inside.

With their darkvision, Rees and Brenin can see to the bottom of the hole. The chamber below you is more like a cave, likely connected with the sinkhole outside. A drop of about 45' ends in water. How much is very hard to tell from up here.

Oh yes, and I'm the MAP!

Look at the holes in the floor...45'? We're gonna die. Perception check is 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (19) + 7 = 26. Any chance there's a ladder or a rope or a place to tie a rope?

Tale of Days Current Battlemap City Map

Brenin looks around but doesn't see any convenient way to get down from here. Walking around the hole, the walls of the cave are more like piles of lime-flow.

There's a gory board on the floor with a huge nail sticking through it, business-end up. There's random bloodstains, old and new on the remaining boards between the nail and the hole.

There's any number of ways to tie off a rope at the top here if that's the way you decide to go.

Kwava comes behind the group and lingers at the door, attention focused on the woods outside.

"I think I see a cave at the bottom of the sinkhole. Otherwise, nothing moves in the forest."

Lia doesn't like the look of the hole in the floor. She's thinking this place needs to be redecorated to be considered disgusting. She heads outside to check out the sinkhole.

Tale of Days Current Battlemap City Map

Navigating down the soft shoulder of the sink is not very difficult. A quick look around reveals several tracks in the soft earth.

The cave opening is about shoulder height and it is pitch-black beyond the threshhold. Kwava wrinkles his nose at the dark hole.

"Something smells very bad in there."

If you're going in, light sources, marching order, relevant skills and weapons, etc. Assume single-file cavern width.

Great, if we are doing this, I'd go rather go this way. Drow hole, yea this is going to be fun.

Reese is thinking to herself, this is probably the end of our group as she knows it. She takes a moment to grab her blowgun and sling. She tucks a few darts in her belt and kicks the ground looking for some ammo for her sling. She is disgusted by how unprepared she is and looks down to make sure her wand is still there. She loosens her pouch a little just in case her snake needs to get out and looks down at her potions and thinks maybe with a little luck she can make this work.

She turns and looks at Trystan and feels her eyes glow. She walks over to him, kisses him gently and whispers," I hope your Cayden blesses us". She can't seem to get her eyes under control, so she walks away. Feeling a bit crazy, she steps up and says LETS GO and walks to the cave.

"I'll take the lead as long as this vision holds out. Kwava, hang out up here with me. We'll leave the torch bearers in the back." [ooc]Sword and shield ready. Perception check is 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (17) + 7 = 24 and stealth is 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (15) + 6 = 21 if needed. I ready a torch in my pack in case my darkvision goes out unexpected. Girls in the middle, boys in the back?

"Let's go get the b!tch."

Lia likes how Brenin thinks. "Let's go!"

Tale of Days Current Battlemap City Map

Shout out to Nebraska. Your posting frequency is pretty low these days. Are we losing you guys?

I think Trystan's off-hand is free, so I suppose he might be the natural torch-bearer of the bunch seeing as Rees has darkvision.

As Trystan and Isegrim work to light the torch, Brenin peeks past the vines and roots in the mouth of the cave and takes a look inside.

Beyond the low entrance the floor drops a couple feet into the same natural cavern you spied from above. The water here looks shallow throughout - perhaps a foot or more at its deepest. The roof of the cavern comes to a peak and a chimney hole there reveals the flickering candle in the cabin above. Long stalagmites hang from the ceiling and their cousins reach up to them in places from the floor.

The air is heavy with fish-musk, colored faintly with stale sea water, bat dung, and death. Bones of all kinds are scattered throughout the chamber. More than one are discernible from a distance as humanoid skulls and rib cages.

Brenin's eye is drawn by a ripple spreading across the floor from the far side of the chamber. Resting there in the water is the largest, toothiest fish-thing the highlands ranger has ever seen. It's like a semi-terrestrial eel monster, and its at least 10' long. As Brenin sees it, a sound from the party behind him startles the creature.

The monster is here.

Lia whispers to herself, "Looks like one of my brothers...."

Ummm...I change my mind. Kwava, you first.

Initiative is 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8 if needed. Who knows, maybe he's friendly. :)

Tale of Days Current Battlemap City Map

The creature moves kind of like a big thick snake, with spiny fins propel it forward. It's half-way to the cave mouth before it senses the silent ranger standing there.

Initiative please folks.

initiative: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 12

Init 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (15) + 2 = 17

I'm committed, just haven't been as proactive lately. When we started the campaign, I was in school and quite broke, I needed this escape more. Now I'm five months into my new career and it is the hardest thing I've ever learned. Everyday is either a victory or a failure. When I get home sometimes I just don't have it in me. Things are slowing down for me though, T will get mouthy again I'm sure. I will remind B to post a roll today. Spring game baby!

Initiative 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6

initiative is 19 plus whatever.

Rees wrote:

+3=22. We have a winner. Do something cool.

Tale of Days Current Battlemap City Map

Initiative order is...
Rees 22
Trystan 17
Lia 12
Kwava 10
Swamp Barracuda 8
Brenin 8
Isegrim 6

Brenin, Kwava and the smiley the Swamp Barracuda are the only ones acting in the surprise round.

Kwava holds his fire as the monster advances, waiting for the clear shot. He takes it just as Brenin's shoulder dips to engage the creature. The arrow whistles by Brenin's ear and ricochets with a splash.

The monster fights like a very big dumb fish. It's movement brings it into melee range for Brenin.

Man, I really want to say something cool here, but I just can't come up with it.

Attack is 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (17) + 5 = 22. Damage is 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7.

And you're the English major. You're supposed to be good at the putting together of words and having them come out right.

I know, right. What do you expect though? Took me 8 years to get that 4 year degree. You looking for a quick and witty response, I may not be your man. I need twice as long as everyone else.

So many responses, so few appropriate ones!

Is there a map?? If not is it my turn and can I attack it?

Tale of Days Current Battlemap City Map

Brenin deals a blow to the beast as it charges into combat.

There is a map, and it is Rees's turn. The cave mouth is tight, but you should be able to see enough to deliver most of your attacks.

The monster has moved to take up squares (7,9) - (7,10).

Reese looks the beast right in the eys and thinks if I can put you to sleep, we can just walk on by. She can feel her eyes turn yellow and waits to see if the thing drops off into lala land. will save negates page 66 in APG

Tale of Days Current Battlemap City Map

The witchery takes hold of the monster, freezing it in place. It wavers there for an instant, then collapses into the water at Brenin's feet.

This effect lasts three rounds (18 seconds), and ends if the creature takes any damage.

By rights, it's Trystan's turn if anyone is attcking the monster while it's down.

Can we perform a coup de grace on it?

Brenin is a little taken aback at how fast the creature gave up.

"One hit and he goes to sleep?"

Damn I'm good. I can only do this once to him. So whatever we decide better be good.

Luke is the map right and all we can see is a room that ends?

If we go with the coup de grace(I think we should) I wonder who is the best suited for it. Lia gets her extra sneak attack damage but I'm not sure if she does the most damage. Maybe Brenin or Isegrim would be better. See page 197 in players guide and see what you guys think. One of us should ready a 2nd attack, just in case the wee beastie gets pissed off if we screw up. I could ready my shocking grasp but if we don't need it I lose it.

Tale of Days Current Battlemap City Map

At automatic critical, Isegrim will do 4d6 + 12. Lia will do 3d6.

You weren't really in the chamber so you hadn't gotten a lot of details. There is a further tunnel at (3,10) that leads off into the dark.

Trystan smiles to himself at the kick-ass nature of his lady. He hates the thought of killing a helpless creature just going about its creaturely business, but if it was going to be a problem going in it will probably be a problem coming out. He nods to Isegrim as if to acknowledge he is the best equipped to put the beast down quickly and cleanly.

Do the rigid combat rules allow for a 1, 2, 3 all strike at once Luke?

My guess is we got 18 seconds to ponder in the dark wet cave. Not enough time to get creative. Let Isegrim take the blow. If it doesn't kill him we'll deal with it then. I move on towards the other opening. Perception is 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (12) + 7 = 19 and Stealth is 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (8) + 6 = 14.

If nothing bad happens to me on my way around, I'll set up right outside of the opening on the far side, looking in.

Tale of Days Current Battlemap City Map

I think the combat rules will give you enough advantage to do this thing. Assume you all are around the creature when it gets hit, it's technically "prone" and provokes AoOs if it rises. So everyone after Isegrim has to deal with some form of its AC, but will still get to wallop it if Isegrim fails to slay it (which he might).

Isegrim, take your mighty stab...

Awesome. I stand corrected. I'll move down into the room to 8,8 and make room for anyone who wants to get close to the slimy thing.

Feel free to delete this post ASAP, but just wanted to say that lurker me has read all 1400+ of y'all's posts last night & today and enjoyed 'em greatly. Keep 'em coming! [returns to the Ethereal Plane]

Damned beastie, (quietly) go thee down to sleep with the kiss of the Raven's Blade.

automatic critical 4d6 + 12 ⇒ (4, 4, 5, 6) + 12 = 31

Aye! The Raven's Blade was thirsty, and I've no love for the spiny snakes.

Lia shakes her head and looks around at the party that's gathered. She remembers the old adage of keeping your friends close and your enemies closer. She hopes never to be on the wrong side of this crowd, especially the witch.

What now? Can we continue on? What say you Kwava?

Go team. That worked even better then I planned.

Tale of Days Current Battlemap City Map

Thanks for the love Marcus. Makes me wish we could just share the campaign site with any lurkers that happen to be out there, but Paizo's been pretty explicit about what they consider IP infringement...

Slumbering there under the poised tip of the Raven Blade, you have to marvel at the size of the creature. It's easily as big around as Isegrim's thigh for the majority of its length.

The big man's blow catches it behind the eye, cleaving deep into its skull and spilling dark blood into the shallow water. It thrashes for a moment, nearly wrenching the sword from Isegrim's grip, then stops struggling and lies still.

Swamp Barracuda missed its fort save and the DM's red d20 is on the verge of taking a long vacation in the freezer where it can contemplate the many ways it's disappointed me.

The cave at the back of the chamber is tight quarters. No more than five feet in width and often stooping to little more than crawl space. Brenin's darkvision is still active, so he and Rees are able to give it a quick look - enough to tell that it's not a short passage.

The torch eventually catches, bathing the wet chamber walls in red and orange. Kwava moves over to peer at the passage.

"I can't see any better in here than you." This directed generally at the party. "But even with the light, I can't make out any tracks in here. She's likely down here - her kind are at home underground - but I can't guarantee it."

Single file from here if you're following the cave. Rees and Brenin are the only ones that can see at all without a light source. Obviously the light source announces your presence to anything within. So are you staying as a group, or is part of the group scouting ahead? If together, order was Brenin, Kwava, Rees, Lia, Trystan, Isegrim. Keep this the same?

Aye carumba! I guess it's Rees and Brenin. I'll take the lead by about 50' or so ahead of Rees and she can leave just enough gap between her and the party so as not to interfere with her darkvision. The rest of the party can fall in as they see fit.

Do we need another round of stealth and perception checks?

Lia looks at the party. She knows she has skills. She also knows this is not her favored place to use them. She puts herself squarely in the middle of all the man-meat. "All right, let's move out!" she declares with more confidence than she feels.

No rolls needed? How about a 'chicken' roll? I'm giving girls a bad name! You go, Melissa! Take up my slack, baby!

I'm on it. I think I musta been a fighta in another life:)

I'm good with the marching order. Lets see what's next.

Rees:
Encouraging ass pinch from the back of the ranks

Tale of Days Current Battlemap City Map

Brenin, go ahead and give me new Perception and Stealth. Those bathing in the torch light need not provide rolls.

Perception is 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (1) + 7 = 8 and Stealth is 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (12) + 6 = 18.

I'm a dead man.

Rees looks back at the group to see if anyone noticed Trystan pinch her a$$. Not really caring, she smiles at him and wonders when she can get him alone again.

moving into place a little behind him but not to the light. My rolls are Perception16+1=17 Stealth 9+6=15

Tale of Days Current Battlemap City Map

Just around the corner a side tunnel shoots off to the left and appears to descend more swiftly than the main tunnel.

The classic decision. Left or right?
