DM Luke |

Movement among the trees on the far side of the clearing, and a small group of cloaked humanoids emerge. Two of them advance into the clearing toward the brazier while a third lingers on the edge. The one who hangs back is a tall, lean figure. You also pick up the sounds of others in the woods, maybe fanning out through the brush to surround the site.

DM Luke |

I'm using the spoilers only because you are in a situation where things are unfolding in front of you and you can't talk to one another without spoiling your ambush.
Huddled there under the cover of darkness and some surrounding brush, your little group seems to pass unnoticed. The two advancing figures slow down when they spot the dead man standing there, stock-still. They exchange glances, then advance with purpose to the brazier. They drop their brands in the bowl and light them with a tindertwig. As the flames light up the little clearing, the two back away, taking up positions on the fringe of the light.
The tall one in the cloak steps into the ring of light and speaks. The voice is clearly female and the common is accented in a very odd way that none of you have heard before.
"Come out of your hiding mage," she waves a dark, long-fingered hand in the direction of the corpse. "This is dumb-show, isn't it? Is this supposed to draw my attention away from the bowman in the woods? Or have you been followed?"
"What bowman?" asks a voice from across the clearing.

DM Luke |

Map explanation:
(3,12)-(4,11): This is vaguely where the voice and the corpse came from.
(9,6): The aforementioned walking corpse
(3,3) & (5,1): Dudes who lit the fire
(7,2): tall, cloaked female

DM Luke |

Brenin, yes you are definitely being flanked in the strategic sense. The other sounds are off the eastern border of the battlemap.

Rees |

oh well, I just noticed in my repeat posts that I forgot about the mage armor I cast on myself

Trystan Glenfauran |

Trystan froze the moment he heard the new arrivals, then slowly turned his aim from the hawk to his most viable target Which?. He strains to hear Rondo's voice out in the black, still fresh in his mind, as he plans on keeping his promise and it is not yet Midnight..
"Show yourself you jackrabbit son-of-a-b!tch", he thinks to himself just as the woman says "bowman in the woods". With that he begins to recall the words to his Blessing prayer. (never actually got used at Rondo's earlier)

Brenin Grazier |

Brenin sits still, impatient but listening, determined not to move until he's caught or an opportunity presents itself. He holds the bow string and arrow between his thumb and first two fingers. He nocks the arrow, unnocks it, rolls it between his fingers, nocks it, unnocks it.
"The bowman's here for you Rondo," Brenin thinks to himself. "No escape for you tonight."

DM Luke |

The hooded figure pivots on a heel and points toward the tree that Brenin crouches behind.
"Take him," she says.
Her two companions in the firelight react immediately.
So do the men on the flank. Roll initiative. None of you are surprised, but some targets are initially valid for some but not for all based on perception so far.

DM Luke |

Initiative results:
Hooded Figure 23
Rees 21 (+3)
Trystan 21 (+2)
Isegrim 21 (+2)
Voice in the woods 19
Dead Guy 13
Lia 10
Brenin 9
Hooded figure's helpers 6
The hooded figure raises her right hand, which contains a fire-arm sized crossbow. She fires a wicked little bolt at Brenin, but hits the tree. In one smooth motion she reloads the weapon and fires a second bolt which catches Brenin's shoulder and remains painfully embedded there.
12 hp damage and Brenin owes me a Fort save.
Rees is up. The voice in the woods is not a valid target for anyone as no one has actually seen the speaker. But you know his general location for the purposes of closing with it or striking blind.
The hooded figure and the two mooks in the light are valid targets for everyone. And anywhere on the map that contains large vegetation or water counts as difficult terrain and costs double to move through. It also prevents tactics like charge.

DM Luke |

A sickly cold washes over Brenin as the bolt's venom works its way into his system. The effect stops at the cold though, and the ranger is able to maintain his focus on the men charging him.
Rees, no worries on the mage armor. I know your post got eaten three odd times and you meant to use it when you landed the boat.
The knuckles of Rees hands itch as the electrical charge builds. Was that wand or a spell?
Trystan pushes through some vegetation to come at the hidden stranger. There's a clearing there, but no sign of the owner of the voice.
Both Trystan and Rees should give new stealth rolls if they're intending to remain quiet and hidden as they take their actions.
Isegrim is up.

DM Luke |

If it were another character acting next I'd just delay Isegrim's turn, but since it's not I'm reluctant to do that. No sign he's been spotted yet, so I don't want to NPC him unless absolutely necessary. I'll delay his action tomorrow night if Isegrim's not in the house by then.

Isegrim Valko |

The Cider Con 1 was awesome. 65% of the domestic production was represented, including Woodchuck, and Original Sin. Much commercial cider production and change in federal regulations to make it easier for cider to compete with the beer market. If you are ever in Portland Oregon and interested in drinking a variety of cider then hit up Bushwacker's. They have 89 different ciders from across the world at your beck and call.
When I get my cider up and running I will send some down to you folk in the southlands in hopes of bringing sophistication to your palate.
Being in Oregon (home to some of the best Pinot Noir in the world) I did mange to bring home a case of amazing wine for the Mrs. It was a good Valentine's Day.
Isegrim tries to decipher the location of the ring leader on the upper left of the map as he moves through the brush readying The Raven's Blade to spill the blood of these wretched bastards.
Perception 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (7) + 6 = 13
Stealth? 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (11) + 1 = 12
Move to 9,13

DM Luke |

Welcome back Isegrim. I think I speak for the whole southern crowd when I say, yes please!
The woman calls out, "Damned fool wizard! You've been trailed. Our bargain is void!"
From somewhere near the fire comes a whispered voice chanting a spell. He then says, "Defend me!" Based on the location of the voice, he's both invisible and on the move.
The zombie jerks into motion with a moan. It makes for Isegrim as the big man stalks through the undergrowth.
Lia's up.

Brenin Grazier |

Brenin grunts at the bolt stuck in him and feels the poison trying to find its way into his veins. "B@*#*!" he mutters quietly to himself. "My turn." Attack is 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (20) + 7 = 27. Damage is 1d8 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7.
1st critical is 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (1) + 7 = 8. Damage is 1d8 + 5 ⇒ (5) + 5 = 10.
Second critical is 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (17) + 7 = 24. Damage is 1d8 + 5 ⇒ (7) + 5 = 12

DM Luke |

Lia makes her way around the flank, behind the big dead tree. As she moves, she sees others moving through the woods - the men who accompany the robed woman. One spots Lia crouched there and spins to engage her as others close on Brenin's position. As Lia's attacker comes in range, the brush in front of Lia (15,1) bursts forth a white-haired warrior to deflect the assault. He holds a powerful-looking longbow in his left hand and a long curved elven dagger in his right. In fact, he bears the tell-tale ears and white-less eyes of elven kind.
The new combatant (15,1) sinks his dagger deep into the shoulder of the man facing Lia (14,1). He recoils in pain and squares off against both his enemies.
Three men bypass Lia's stand and continue to close on Brenin.
Spectacular rolling by Chris. 20 threatens, but your 1 fails to confirm the critical so you get one die of damage. I think your damage is supposed to just be +2 though, not +5. And if you confirm, your multiplier means you roll damage three times, not that you have more confirm rolls or anything. So I think you did 7 points of damage. Let me know if there was more.
Brenin's arrow flies true and strikes the woman. She flinches and the hood of her robe drops to her shoulders revealing bone-white hair, all white eyes, and a lusterous sable skin color - almost purple. She mutters angrily and fires another bolt from her crossbow as she steps toward the party rogue.
The nasty little bolt passes in front of the rogue and is lost in the brush.
Rees is up.

Figures. Wasn't sure, so I rolled them all. +2 for the bow, +3 without it. My sheet calculates it automatically so I can't tell you what it comes from. Too complicated.

I can't figure where the +3 could be coming from. Your dex is +3, but that applies to the attack, not the damage. Your strength bonus doesn't apply to damage with a bow - normally. The composite lets you use the +2. Point-blank shot increases attack but not damage. Same with Trystan's Bless. Same with masterwork quality bow. I think your shreadsheet has a bug.

DM Luke |

And folks, don't forget +1 to all attacks (and save vs fear) thanks to Trystan's Bless. Everyone should be affected by this.
Rees lays a hand on the cloaked human as he rushes into combat. The energy discharges into him with a loud crack and he staggers but keeps his feet.
Trystan, then Isegrim.

Brenin Grazier |

And folks, don't forget +1 to all attacks (and save vs fear) thanks to Trystan's Bless. Everyone should be affected by this.
Forgot about that.
Found this under Strength...Strength Bonus
A Strength penalty, but not a bonus, applies to attacks made with a bow that is not a composite bow...? Does that mean strength addds on composites? On the sheet, if I select a non-composite bow, bonus goes down by 2, any composite adds strength back to it. Also, I had melee selected instead of ranged. Changed that. Now the attack is +8 and the damage is +4. Ranged attack is bab(3) plus dexterity(3) plus strength mod(+2). Damage should only have been 6 if the strength mod stands.
Point Blank gives +1 to attack and damage.

DM Luke |

Everyone but Rondo a viable target for me?
yup, unless your line of sight is blocked by the trunk of a tree. Then your target gets cover. Like the dark elf just put the tree between herself and Brenin.

DM Luke |

Bows are ranged weapons, so the attack bonus is normally bab (+3) + dex (+3). No strength component to that. On top of this you have a +1 for masterwork bow. I guess the last +1 is from Point Blank Shot, but this target wasn't within 30'. Lastly you have +1 from Bless.
damage for bows normally has no strength component. Trystan's xbow works like this. Composite bows are special for their strength rating. It's the maximum portion of your strength bonus you can add to damage. So the damage should rightly be +2. Point blank shot adds +1 to damage, but only within 30'. Masterwork bonuses do not apply to damage, and neither does Bless.
so, with bless and w/o pbs
attack +8
damage +2

DM Luke |

Trystan, I have my doubts about the applicability of this spell in combat, but we'll let this roll and see where it goes. In particular, this spell has a casting time of 1 round, meaning its effects don't start until after a round has passed. If you take damage, you'll need a spellcraft check to maintain the spell. If you're still maintaining this action when your next turn comes around, the spell's effects kick in and it's your turn again (similar to how a summoning spell works). The tough thing is that the spell requires you to put yourself out there - while summoning spells can be done out of the spotlight.
Isegrim's up.
