Lia leaves the girl to the burly man and does a search of the room they're in.

Perception is: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (12) + 8 = 20

I give Brennin the eye. (You know the one, it says don't tell me what to do)But decide his directions merit action. Perception check is 13+1=14. If I need to take some extra time, I do.

Tale of Days Current Battlemap City Map

Rondo's misty remnants trail up to the ceiling of the room to mingle with wisps of smoke. The fire in the front room smolders in several places. You've no doubt that it will eventually catch for real and bring the place down if left alone or fed. Potentially with the neighbor buildings as well.

Samaritha takes heavy drags of air as the gag and the strain of being suspended come off. Her dress from the night she was taken lies crumpled in the corner of the room and she retrieves this and puts it on before speaking.

"Get me out of here," is all she can manage.

Lia's quick search of the room yields a whole lot-a-nothing. There's a pail of stale water in the corner, an extremely suspect bed, and a rickety old chair.

Rees's survey of the wizard's bedroom has better results. On the same table where Rondo retrieved his potion are others, along with a scroll tube he neglected to take with him. The tube contains 5 scrolls. Next to the bed you find one of Rondo's spell books. A quick glance shows lots of pages covered in flowing script and annotated diagrams.

I move to the front room and beat out the fire as best as I can in a couple of minutes then prepare to exit.

"Let's get Samaritha out of here. Rondo can come back and save his house after we're gone."

Trystan kneels down by Isegrim while his friends search the house and put out the fires. He concentrates and channels energy to all within reach.

1d6 ⇒ 6

Feeling much better and with Isegrim conscious and mobile, Trystan helps beat out any remaining flames on the main floor.

He takes a moment to scrawl a note with one of Rondos quills and pins it to the wall with a bolt. "See you soon.." it reads.

Shall we make tracks y'all?

Any chance of a level-up boss?

Discussion thread updated with "recovered" items from Rondo's house.

Tale of Days Current Battlemap City Map

Yes, absolutely. It's level-up time folks. Any spell-slots, etc added due to level-up may be filled as desired. Expended slots stay expended until you rest.

Once outside, Samaritha takes Brenin's elbow.

"I can't go back to my flat by myself now. Will you take me there so I can get some things? I want to move into the Goblin for at least tonight. My place is not far from here."

I nod. "That would probably be best. It's too dangerour to be out here on your own, especially with all of the enemies we're making."

Sense motive is 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 2 = 13. Diplomacy is 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6.

Sweet. I'll update my character page accordingly. Let's do some shopping before we trigger our next beatdown.

Hit die 1d8 ⇒ 7

Character sheet sent to your home address. Additional HP was 7. My sheet calculates them automatically.

Tale of Days Current Battlemap City Map

Samaritha has to find her land-lady to let her into her place. It consists of two tiny rooms. The front where everyone clusters uncomfortably, and a small bedroom where Samaritha goes to change and gather some things.

She seems genuinely freaked out by what she's been through. So much so that she asks the other ladies to go in her bedroom with her.

When she comes back out she seems a little more composed. The new clothes help. She has a shoulder bag and a valise which she begins to fill with every item in the room she's taking with her.

"What was I thinking?" she says as she gathers her possessions. "I can't come back here at all. He has my key to this place... knows where it is. If he comes looking for me he's going to come here. I can't even defend myself without resting first."

She stops packing and turns to the group.

"But not tonight he won't. Listen, I overheard him quarreling with someone else while I was his... prisoner. He's meeting someone. He thinks he's going to learn the truth about the blot tonight!"

"Let's get back to the goblin so we can all talk. We have to be at that meeting. What else did you hear?"

Suddenly Brenin realizes he's done forgot all about Samaritha's imprisonment.

"I'm sorry. I can't change what he did to you, but I promise you this. He won't get away so easily the next time."

Brenin helps her gather her things, then moves outside to look around before leaving. Perception check is 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (2) + 6 = 8.

Not really sure what our money situation is now. Haven't seen a wage roll for the Goblin in a while. Can we split the party gold? I really need the benefit of a masterwork crossbow.

How many unidentified potions do we have now? Golden syrup and how many from Rondo? Plus five new scrolls. Let me know what rolls you need and I'll give it a try. My girlfriend is probably better at it though.

Lets get Grim healed up, identify, buy and sell stuff and scheme on what to do tonight.

Check out the discussion thread or the party's page. I've updated both with a list of our accumulated wealth and potions. We have some unidentified stuff as well as 1879gp. I wouldn't mind a new bow or some arrows of slaying myself.

DM, how many potions did we get from Rondo?

Character page is updated. Where do you stand on re-spec-ing say 2 pts of abilities at some point? I was new to the system when I made T, should not have made my charisma a 15 if I didn't plan on leveling it. Just a thought, I can deal.

I don't have the spells memorized for identify but can roll for it. I ll need the DM to let me know what skill check and how many times to roll. Also a word of warning to my friends, in the new rule book a few new possible spells for me are vomit swarm and pox pustules.

I''m sure the DM will post tonight. He's been...tied up lately.

As for buying special weapons and arrows and stuff, I'm all for people using the parties monies to get what they need. If you split it up, it takes longer to get where you're going. Why doesn't everybody put out there what they want and we'll prioitize it.

I'll work on my new character sheet tonight, if'n it's not my turn for tying...

Rees wrote:

You really should lay off the voodoo. Went down to Orlando yesterday. On the way back, about an hour after dinner, I lost it, all in my truck at 75mph down the interstate. Couldn't get stopped and couldn't get the window down. I was sick all night. Rough. No pox pustles please.

Wow. Hope you're all right now. Brings back memories. Lucky for me, mom and dad came and cleaned out my car. I'm not sure I could do the same for Rach...

Tale of Days Current Battlemap City Map

Ok. This post has to set a record for the amount of research that went into its composition. I've updated the OOC post with specific counts of potions, as well as relevant skill rolls or spells to identify items without resorting to the expensive identify spell.

Brenin's and Trystan's character sheets look good. Rees is out of town for a couple of days, so we won't see updated stats or posts from her. I'll stand in with rolls where appropriate. I still need to look back at her last spell selection as well. Lia and I should be able to get her character leveled up by tomorrow. How about Isegrim?

Trystan, on the subject of re-spending for abilities, I see your point and have no issue with a re-spend. Where would you put the two points? 14 Dex?

As far as wages go, you were each due another 10gp 2 days ago, so add that in the mix however you like. For shopping, you can generally assume that items of up to '+1' quality are immediately available at one of the shops in the vicinity. Specific high-priced items immediately available are listed in the shop inventories on the campaign site. If there's something specific you're looking to purchase, list it and I'll figure it out.

Tale of Days Current Battlemap City Map

No threats manifest as the group takes back to the streets, then to the ferry back over the Velashu River, and finally back to the comforts of the Goblin.

Saul immediately agrees to house Samaritha while she figures out her next steps. He gives her one of the vacant rooms in the guest wing and pays her wages she missed while held captive.

With a bowl of soup in front of her she relays some of what she saw and heard while held. She's obviously uncomfortable sharing some of things that happened to her, so she sticks to the overheard conversation.

"He was arguing with another man about the meeting. He's trading Cyphermage secrets with some contact of his for information on the true nature of the blot. He's supposed to meet tonight, out in the boneyard. Some place called 'Victor's Crossing'? I don't have any idea who the source of the information is, but Rondo was excited by the prospect of being the first under-study to bring real news of the blot to Elias Tammerhawk... the wizard who runs the Cyphermages."

The boneyard is the vast swamp flats south of the city. Knowledge (local) check to recognize the 'Victor's Crossing' reference...

DM Luke wrote:

Actually was just refering to the two points I spent to raise my CHA from a 14 to a 15 (both +2 bonus). Speaking of which, Mike built Grim with even numbers in the typical fighter stats. I would have told Brendan to make the first stat he planned on leveling an odd number so he could get a bonus increase at level 4.

Tale of Days Current Battlemap City Map

Sure thing. So you take back two points of your twenty by backing your Charisma down to 14 (same +2 mod), then spend them to increase another stat. So are you thinking of taking your Dex from 13 to 14 (also a 2 point difference in cost), or something else?

And I encouraged Brendan to make Isegrim how he wanted him. I still have no issue with a small re-allocation of points for the fighter, as long as we're not changing the flavor of the character.

Updated the Discussion page and the Party Loot Log to reflect the new information from the DM as well as the additional 50gp.

Brenin paces back and forth, agitated. "Trading secrets with Rondo? Rondo's a fool. Someone's using him more than likely for their own purposes. And when that's done, he's a dead man. No better time than tonight out in a deserted swamp, especially when news of his earlier enocunter with us comes to light."

"Samaritha, how strong a wizard is Rondo? The only spell he cast against us was to raise four skeletons."

Tale of Days Current Battlemap City Map

"I don't know the answer to that. The skeletons were his 'servants'. They were around the entire time I was there. He used them constantly to threaten me. They handed me over to him after I was exhausted and had no ability to defend myself, and he made sure I never got enough rest and had no access to my grimoires - so there was no chance for me to measure myself against him."

"Come to think of it, I can't remember him casting anything at all, so I have no idea what his abilities are. But he can use items, and those he seems to have in abundance. He certainly has some pull, being a mouthpiece of sorts for Tammerhawk. No doubt the order is the source of his wands, scrolls and potions."

"If we could find out what's in that book," this while pointing to the spellbook you recovered, "we'd definitely have a better idea of his capabilities. In any event, they must be compromised somewhat now that you have that in your possession."

"Let me look through it and I might be able to tell you something of his abilities. With some sleep, I could cast read magic and tell you pretty quickly how far his powers go."

"It really won't matter how strong a wizard he is if he's dead. One way or another, I'd like to see that happen tonight. We can't wait until tomorrow if we can find Victor's Crossing tonight and make the meeting."

Assuming someone can make a local knowledge check and locate this place for us, then I vote we get a couple hours rest and head out this afternoon.

Work has got me doing another overnight this week. I will help Brendan level and tweak my stats this weekend sometime if we can stay in a holding pattern till then.

Lia, Trystan could really use the +1 of a masterwork crossbow (335gp), as firing into a melee for him puts him at a negative to-hit (until I buy the Feat to negate it). We are going to start facing some pretty high AC's I would imagine.

Brenin wouldn't mind a better bow himself, but it's my second weapon at this point, so it doesn't rate as high on the priority list.

And, Pat, I'd like the ceramic dalmation for $300...and the his and hers matching snowshoes for $450...

I'll make a knowledge check as soon as I level up my character. Luke neglected to say that since Melissa is out of town we have the twins...so, who knows when that will happen.

While I'm leveling up I'll have Luke help me make a list of things people might like/need and we'll negotiate prices...I hate the mall, but you gotta love spending boody, I mean, booty!

Tale of Days Current Battlemap City Map

Agreed on all fronts. Plot-wise we'll cool our heels until Isegrim and Rees are leveled. That'll be after the weekend on Melissa's part.

In the meantime, since we leveled Pam tonight and I got another chance to peruse the feats, allow me to point out the feat step up. It lets you step with an opponent who uses their 5' step to back away and do something that would normally force an AoO. Rondo and the gaseous form for instance...
You do this as an immediate action (as in, out of turn), at the expense of your 5' step (or 5' of speed) on your next turn.

I also thought lunge was an interesting addition.

Also, for you discriminating shoppers out there, I'd like to point out the benefits of masterwork armors and shields. Reduced armor check penalties are all the rage these days.

Tale of Days Current Battlemap City Map

Pam and I had a discussion about items that upgrade basic stats for cheap. We went through each character - kind of like we would do at the table. Here's what we came up with, along with prices. If there's anything else folks can think of along these lines, let me know and I'll add to the list.

Masterwork shield and armor reduces the armor check penalty by one, meaning you can go to heavier armors for free. Also, Isegrim qualifies for his first armor training bump, so that helps diminish the armor check as well.

Masterwork weapons give you a plus to attack, but not to damage.

The composite bow has a strength factor that you must have a matching strength bonus that is equivalent or you take a penalty to hit. But when you hit you add the strength factor to damage. Each point of strength you add to the bow adds 100gp to the price.

Brenin
masterwork composite longbow 400gp (+100gp/+1 Str)
masterwork longsword 315gp
masterwork chain shirt 250gp
masterwork studded leather 175gp
masterwork shield 159gp

Isegrim
masterwork chainmail 300gp

Lia
masterwork studded leather 175gp
masterwork rapier 320gp

Rees
scrolls 25gp/200gp for 1st/2nd level spells.

Trystan
masterwork crossbow 335gp
masterwork studded leather 175gp

General
potions
alchemical items

I'm working on the 'standard' deductions, so maybe these prices might get a little lower...

Nice list. That helps a lot. On the bow, I have a +2 strength. If I max out on it, I pay 600gp? If that's the case, I'll wait. We can get the rest of the list, including scrolls for Rees. I'll get mine on the next go around.

Tale of Days Current Battlemap City Map

Brenin, what did you choose as your favored terrain? And does that mean you're passing on the other shopping items we found?

After studying the scrolls, Samaritha hands them back to you and delivers the verdict. Mage Armor, Comprehend Languages, Identify, False Life, and Darkvision.

I took mountain since it ties in with my character history. Then you said the expedition would be heading into the swamps, so I was second guessing that choice. I'm lost on the armor. If I go to chainmail, looks like my movement is cut to 20'. I like the idea of a new sword or shield, but if we get out into the bush, we need some weapons with reach. What's the answer to the cost question?

Character page is current with all changes except potential purchases. Helping Brendan level Grim tonight, his recent absence was mostly due to a week in SF, CA with the fam.

I'm back in town, and i've been updated. As far as party money goes, I'm with Lia. Feel free to use it for whatever helps us the most. I am sitting pretty tight right now and can't think of anything I need. If everyone is in agreement, I will take control of the 2 wands(shocking grasp & unseen servent) as I can use them without having to roll for it.(I think I've had them all along since they were on my character sheet)Also, I was able to transfer comp.language and the false life scolls to my snake. I already had mage & identify so i can use either of them immediatley if there is a need. The dark vision scroll should stay with the party, I think Lia and I both have a good shot at making it work, but it is not a spell on my list. I also still have my 2 cure moderates that I bought with my own money.

Ifn you guys want to go off and fight again I'm with you. I'm down a couple spells, but after my power lunch I'm feeling all sassy again. I've got burning gaze and inflict moderate wounds as new and I still have charm person & all my 0's & hexes

Tale of Days Current Battlemap City Map

Brenin, sorry, you were correct on the 600gp figure for the best masterwork composite bow you can wield effectively. I probably confused you with the armor discussion when I wrote 'heavier' armor for free (in terms of armor check penalty). I didn't mean to medium armors, but only that you could upgrade to a light armor that offered more protection (a higher armor bonus) and not take on more of an armor check penalty to your skill rolls. Similarly with the shield. If you upgraded to a masterwork item, you could either upgrade to a large shield (+2 armor) and keep the same armor check penalty (-1), or you could stay with the smaller shield (+1 armor) and get rid of the armor check penalty altogether.

Rees...snake? wtf? I updated the Party Loot Log accordingly. Rees claimed or used four scrolls and the party has Darkvision left. Note, we still have four potions to id, two of which look the same. I want the bow and I'll wait on the armor, shield and sword.

Hey all! Sorry, out of town visiting the inlaws in San Fran. Andy is getting me up to speed tonight. SF was loverly. Sunny on the beaches and 70 degrees. The water was still bitter cold. The kids really enjoyed the ocean. And wading. In the ice cold water. I had fun too. Hit the street car, and Fishermans Wharf, Marine Mammal Center, Crabs from the boats, tidepools and the immortal City Lights Bookstore. Glad to be home. Even if it is sub zero this evening.

Leveling up
Hit Die: 1d10 + 3 ⇒ (9) + 3 = 12
Character Sheet on paizo updated appropriately.

Lia takes a shot at id-ing the potions with the standard, taste it and see what it is routine.

Perception roll: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (1) + 9 = 10

In addition, she racks her brain to see what she knows about Victor's Crossing.

knowledge local: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (15) + 8 = 23

Are you kidding me? Even the dice roller hates me! Hey, Melissa, a little help in the dice charm department? Nobody likes me, everybody hates me, I think I'll eat some worms...

Lia Smythe wrote:
I think I'll eat some worms...

I hear they taste great once you've drank the entire bottle of tequila first.

Not this again. Did you poision yourself?? If Lia's taste doesn't give her the clue to the potions, and she isn't to sick, I'll take a shot at them.

Laughing,"Thats usually the way I try to figue them out too."I head over to Lia to see if she is green or not and offer to help out any way I can.

Turning to Brenin and the rest, "You guys do realize I'm a witch right." Bringing out the snake, "I usually try & keep Sims here a secret." "You all have proven yourself trustworthy and seeing how we are fighting together you should know that he is my familiar. If he dies, I am seriously disabled."

I'm just trying to figure out where you kept it beneath that tight fitting dress.

Brenin is a little suprised at the appearance of the snake, but he's not particularly scared of them and shrugs it off. "You should have sent him up Rondo's robe."
