Gabro lets out a loud roar. "If you've come looking for death, then you've found it."

Gabro lashes out at the beast at 15,16. Attack is 1d20 + 8 + 1 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 8 + 1 + 1 + 2 = 14. Damage is 1d10 + 7 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 7 + 1 = 9.

That's got to be some of the worst rolling in history and one of the biggest let downs ever.

That's gonna leave a mark.

"Enough of this. Let's finish these beasts and find that drow!"

Brenin drops his bow, draws his sword and charges the cat at 17,19. Attack is 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (14) + 9 = 23. Damage is 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 2 = 9.

Doesn't that sphere have a radial effect or is this something else?

Brenin recoils from the bright flash and heat wave in the early morning darkness and for a moment he is too stunned to act. Then, through the flames, he realizes the beast is still standing and launches an arrow.

Attack is 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (13) + 8 = 21. Damage is 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6.

"Easy with the flames Rees! That was a little close."

Brenin takes a 5' step back to 15,18 away from the heat.

Brenin nocks an arrow and points it at the eyes, while surveying the surrounding area. "Looks like they've been waiting for us. Keep your eyes peeled. There's probably more."

Initiative, if needed, is 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (14) + 3 = 17. Ever have one of those moments when you spell something correctly but it doesn't look right...initiative.

"I agree. Let's head toward last night's fires and see what we can find."

Perception is 1d20 + 8 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 8 + 2 = 27.

"Let's take this battle to them. Fighting in these close quarters won't work for us."

Once everyone is ready, we'll move out the door.

"Old man, wait for us here. If we don't come back in a day or two, it's because we didn't make it."

Brenin will take point as we head out the door and move off to the left, bow in hand. Maybe Gabro next up the middle followed by Kwava off to the right. Girls can fall in behind us and spread out as we move out the door. Any spells to cast before we head out?

"Let's wake the others and get ready. If I was going to press an attack, it would be pre-dawn. If that's not the case, we'll have an earlier start."

Brenin moves back downstairs and wakes the others. "Rise and shine. We may have trouble."

What kind of defenses does this place have, murder holes, arrow slits, etc.? We have to decide if want to do battle inside or out?

I've been slammed personally. Not sure when it's going to slow down.

What time of the afternoon/night is it? Brenin would prefer not to wander these woods at night, but rather go out just before daybreak and see what we can find.

So much for the perception check. Finding nothing upstairs, Brenin walks back down and starts digging through his pack and hands Jarek some rations.

"We don't have much, but maybe we can find what we're looking for tomorrow and get us all off this island. What happened to Zincher? I'd love to find him on this rock, dead that is."

Perception is 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (3) + 8 = 11.

Brenin circles the tower looking out the windows then gets an idea. He walks to the top of the stairs and yells down to Kwava, "Any signals you can send to the captain to let him know we're here and spending the night? He could probably see a light from here."

Brenin stows his bow and draws his sword. "After you Gabbro. Let's see what's up there."

"Slow down. Breathe. Nothing is going to get you while we're here. Where are the others, Goldhammer?"

Someone else should make a diplomacy roll here. Mine weren't too good.

"What else can you tell us about the island, the monsters, any possible survivors?"

If shutting the door appeases the poor fellow, then we'll shut it. The drow obviously isn't here, but this looks like it will be interesting enough anyway.

"How long ago did you start seeing the cats?"

"This ain't the drow's house is it?"

"Easy old man. Nothing is coming in this door except through us."
Diplomacy check is 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7.

Brenin quickly steps inside before he gets the door slammed in his face.

Brenin barely has time to survey the surrounding landscape when he hears the faint click of the door lock.

"You opened it already?" Brenin shakes his head and smiles. "You must have been real popular among your neighbors. I'm glad you're on our side."

"Watch your step Gabbro. Drow lay nasty traps."

Perception check is 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (13) + 10 = 23. Survival check is 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (14) + 10 = 24.

Brenin surveys the scene as the party approaches the door. "We probably have a few more suprises in front of us. Let's be careful."

He'll move ahead to one side of the door, but will stop short of touching it.

"Lia, you want to check this out?"

Sounds good. That'll put me down 10.

Brenin suddenly realizes he's not very good at riddles involving demons and undead. Until about two weeks ago, he had never seen either.

"I'll go with demon which would lead us back to drow?"

Brenin may not know much about demons, but he immediately recognizes the impatience in his friend's demeanor. Brenin knocks down a CMW and readies his bow. 2d8 + 6 ⇒ (6, 4) + 6 = 16.

Brenin looks at the metal man and grunts. "I think I'm going to need stitches. There's someone in that tower. We saw each other when the lions attacked."

Brenin is down to 10hp from 32. He's carrying two CMW potions and Kwava has one from the previous campaign. I think Lia is down quite a bit as well. Rees, anything you can do for us?

Brenin howls at the hits. "Damn these things! We need to finish this now."

He steps back to 25,34 and fires at the same freak again. 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (11) + 8 = 19. Damage is 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8.

Do you get a critical with that weapon on a natural 19?

Cool, thanks. I missed that. My attack is +11 then. I think we're somewhere around a 14 to hit though.

Brenin grunts at the pain and curses, "Gabbro! If you get her killed..."

Brenin's voice trails off as he sees another of the freaks appear. He backpeddles to 24,33 and fires another round at the same one.

Attack is 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (3) + 7 = 10. Damage is 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (8) + 3 = 11. Note, this is my third attack and I've gotten a modifier wrong in the DM's favor on both of the others.

Not that it mattered.

Brenin takes a 5' step back to somewhere he won't incur and AoO and fires at the same zombie again.

Attack is 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (7) + 7 = 14. Damage is 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7.

"I'm starting to really dislike these things."

"We got more freaks over here and someone is up in that tower."

Brenin fires at the freak at 29,28. Attack is 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (7) + 7 = 14. Damage is 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6.

He backs up to 24,31

Brenin moves to 25,25, bow in hand, watching for the beast.

You forgot, Brenin, Entanglement. You skeered I'll actually cast it? Might bring down Paizo. :)

Perception is 1d20 + 8 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 8 + 2 = 20.

"This place is just loaded with suprises."

Initiative is1d20 + 3 ⇒ (12) + 3 = 15.

"I agree with Gabbro. Let's make a quick check of this town and then take a look at that tower. I'd rather not be out here in the open come nightfall."

Are we at the intersection with all the little squares?

Brenin drifts off to the right and ahead as the group approaches the old town. Perception is 1d20 + 8 + 2 ⇒ (13) + 8 + 2 = 23. Survival is 1d20 + 8 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 8 + 2 = 15.

"Whatever they are, I think we're better off meeting them on the road than in the bush. Let's move and see else we can find."

"Nothing like anything I've ever seen. They would certainly scare off most visitors and serve to keep people from landing on the island. Let's see what the rest of this island holds."

Brenin moves towards the bushes and starts looking for signs or tracks.

Perception check is 1d20 + 8 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 8 + 2 = 19. Survival is 1d20 + 8 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 8 + 2 = 17.

Ummmm...what happened to Lia, Kwava and the freaks? I'm so confused.

Brenin is suprised by Samaritha's sudden touch. For a brief moment time stands still and he remembers the night spent on the roof as the world fell apart. The sound of Lia engaged with the zombie snaps him out of his reverie and he bolts forward, inspired.

Brenin moves to 8,15 and fires at the creature again.

Attack is 1d20 + 7 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 7 + 2 = 29. Damage is 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3.
Confirm is 1d20 + 7 + 2 ⇒ (13) + 7 + 2 = 22. Damage is 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 2 = 10.

"Back to hell with you!"

The arrow explodes through the creatures head, dropping him instantly.

"Great job Rees. Now let's finish the rest of these freaks."

Brenin moves to 8,10 and fires at the freak attacking Lia.

Attack is 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (11) + 7 = 18. Damage is 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3.

Initiative is 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4.

Brenin casts a doubtful glance at his metal companion, then quietly says to Kwava, "We need to keep an eye on that one. There might be a bolt loose in his armor."

Brenin approaches the body carefully surveying the surrounding area. Heal check to determine information about the body and nature and time of death. 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (6) + 6 = 12

"Let's start with these shacks and the immediate area. Then we'll move towards the crater. If there's any of Zincher's men or the dwarves left alive, let's see what they're about. If not, maybe we can tell what killed them.

Brenin heads towards the nearest shack. He keeps his bow ready as he searches.

Brenin nods in agreement to Kwava's assesment of the situation. "This island isn't that big. We'll sort it out."

Perception check is 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (19) + 8 = 27. Survival check is 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (2) + 8 = 10. Knowledge geography check is 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (18) + 4 = 22.

Brenin has a Favored Terrain of Mountains which includes hills. +2 to Survival, Stealth, Perception and Knowledge(geography). Do these apply in this terrain?

"Any enemy of Zincher is a friend of mine...and by the look of it, he's no friend of yours. Trondheim has lost favor in Riddleport. The town was pretty upset when the first boat into town sailed off for the skymetal instead of bringing help. You're welcome to go where you please, but go carefully into Riddleport."

Diplomacy check is 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (14) + 1 = 15.

"There's more on that island than Zincher and the skymetal. We're going in to find out what. If we cross paths with Zincher, we're going to kill him. Any help you can give us would be greatly appreciated."

Brenin starts to make a comment about the mad ravings of a drunken sailor, then remembers where he is. "Dretch, probably. We've seen them before."

"How many are with Zincher on the island?"

"Nice shooting Kwava. Looks like I'm buying the first round next time we see civilization."

Brenin takes a moment to survey the surrounding water from his high perch. This was too easy. Maybe it was a diversion? 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (10) + 8 = 18.

Luke...don't know. This morning I had a red "X" instead of a pic. Checked the properties and it looked like an incomplete link. Just checked it again and all is well, and the address to the pic is still the same. Dunno. I retract Brenin's comments about Creesey.

Merry xmas. Rachel's puzzle-box gift card was hilarious. Hope Kayla was treated well by the big elf.

Nice. I had to play with it myself before we put in the mail. :) Great gift to pass on, assuming she didn't break down and use the hammer option to open it. Kayla did well. iPod Touch. She's barely spoken a word since.

Spent the day on the water yesterday. Just saw I was up. Can you check the battlemap link? Something's missing off the end of the html tag.

Brenin fires another shot. This time at the archer.
Attack is 1d20 + 6 - 2 ⇒ (4) + 6 - 2 = 8.

Brenin curses as his shot misses the boat entirely. "Kwava, why is Captain Greasy hiding behind Lia and Rees instead of drawing sword? If something happens to one of those two, he'll find himself swimming."

Dude...do you have to add all that up every time you attack? I have to look up my bonus just for my normal weapon....every time, cuz I can't remember it. That's insane! I'm not exactly sure what happened, but I think I liked it. Nice kill.

Brenin's sees Kwava's hit on the fellow who appears to be the captain and follows up with his own shot.

Attack is 1d20 + 6 - 2 ⇒ (10) + 6 - 2 = 14. Damage is 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5.

Brenin scans the far boat and makes his best guess at his target. He's hunting archers, wizards or Zinchers.

First shot is 1d20 + 6 - 2 - 2 ⇒ (20) + 6 - 2 - 2 = 22.
Confirm is 1d20 + 6 - 2 - 1 ⇒ (5) + 6 - 2 - 1 = 8.
Damage is 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4.

Second shot is 1d20 + 6 - 1 - 2 ⇒ (12) + 6 - 1 - 2 = 15.
Damage is 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5.
