Luke, Gozreh seems like a good fit but there's not much info in the CH.
What I could find immediately on Gozreh. There has not been a spotlight article on the deity to my knowledge.
Can I Call My Guy Drizzt? |
Need anything more from me Drizzt or have we decided on drinking establishment related acquaintances who share a God and a love of fermented fruits and grain?
I think that works well, Isegrim's contract on the ship he was working came up and the last port of call was Riddleport. He values close friendships and has struck one up with the friendly bartender/priest, with whom he shares worship of Cayden Cailean. If you are close with any of the other characters then that's a good point of contact for Isegrim to have gotten to know them as well.

Perfect. You are a model customer and tip well so your mug is always refilled before you have to ask and every fourth one is on the house. Cheers.

The map is well on its way and the site redesign will be easy. I'm just throwing the content up with Joomla and tailoring it later. I think Isegrim is ready to rock and roll. It looks from email like Andrew and Pam are getting close to a partially shared back-story. Circumstances have so far prevented the creation of the Witch, but Melissa seems happy to fill the role of augur or contact mentioned in Chris's background trait. We have to figure out how the witch plays into the mix.
In any event, we are getting there - particularly now that I am off work for awhile and can focus. But it will probably be some days yet. And I have a few new NPCs to create based on the backgrounds that are being put together. Really a nice job by everyone involved!

Okay, resident tiefling witch is in the house. Sorry for the delay. Luke and I are pretty much done building my character. I am still working on some of my background info but Chris, I'm thinking you me and the blot in some way shape or form.
Pam, I see what you mean about needing some extra estrogen. I am here for you. Boys I am warnin you now, I took 'evil eye' as my hex and I speak demonic. (okay I mean abyssal but I like demonic better)
How do to the two new guys and Chris. It will be nice to chat with you again. I am looking forward to playing.
DM Luke |
Welcome to the game. This character is all about toeing the lines. She's working out trait selection and background story now.
Chris and Melissa, I'm sending an email with one way I see your stories blending in. Let's hammer on it to make it fit your character concepts better.
Isegrim |
If anyone is trying to find a good picture to represent their character, check out this Flickr group:

If you find one that's perfect but needs a couple little changes like a different color hair or different weapon let me know. I'm pretty handy in photoshop and can probably knock it out pretty quickly.

Melissa's in the house. Nice to have you back. I feel better with those dice on our side. My ranger is an Uplander (still don't know what all this entails) who's had some discussions about the blot with other rangers/druids and has come to the conclusion that the solution to the problem lies in Riddleport. I've come into town to meet with a local Harrow to find some direction in my quest. I've been sent into the Goblin to meet with an up and coming witch. I'm way out of my element in this place and I have no idea of what I'm going to find here.
On another note, character sheet is pretty cool. The only issue I see right now is that my shield bonus isn't translating to my AC. What affects this? It looks like it's looking to see if the shield is wielded or not but I can't find where I turn this on or off.
Secondly, under weapons, I have to choose how I'm wielding the weapon. My composite longbow is my secondary weapon...if I choose 2-handed Off Hand, it removes the bonus. I assume I should choose 2-handed? That's it. I'm a name, some background info and a avatar away from having this done.

Yeah. bows have to be wielded two handed. The option you were trying is actually 2-weapon offhand, for two weapon fighting.
Another tip is that you can enter the same weapon a couple different ways (say a sword one handed in one entry and then the same sword two-handed with power attack in another entry) so that it's easy to see the different bonuses at a glance. On the additional entries, set "Carried" to "0" so it doesn't factor extra swords into your encumbrance. On a related note, don't enter weapons in the inventory section or they'll be counted twice. Same with armor.. its weight is counted in the armor section.
There is a little box under AC on the Front sheet that you can check yes or no as to whether it counts the shield in your AC.
The sheet we're talking about is Erian's, which is under development. It's pretty cool. He just had a kid so there might not be updates for a little while but the thing works pretty much perfectly for normal characters. He's adding in things like familiars/animal companions and the new classes.
You can always get the most recent version here..

Hey all, I'm ready to rock! I wanted to share a great website on alignment. It's been a big help for me in wrapping my head around some of the more tenebrous ones.
http://www.easydamus.com/alignment.html
Also, it might be advantageous to compare and make sure we've got as many Knowledge skills covered as possible (within the bounds of justifiable RP reasons of course). Isegrim has Dungeoneering covered.
DM Luke |
No issues here. Probably post your stuff behind a spoiler just in case someone doesn't want to read but would rather get it in game. And if there's any part of a person's background which might be more fun to reveal gradually, simply leave it out of the background text you post.
I apologize for being relatively silent for about 24 hours, but Pam boggarted the PC that has all my emails & stuff on it to burn recital videos. That's allowed me to focus on my map, which I may be able to complete by the end of the night. I owe just about everyone a reply email on one subject or another and I will definitely get to them tomorrow at the latest. We're really very close to kicking off now - just a little more patience.
On the subject of the website, I rent hosting space at GoDaddy and pay for my own domain, so I will probably stick with plan A, which is to install Joomla and let it manage the content. I don't expect that to take very long (I'll undoubtedly tinker with it alot more once its up). And I don't view the redesign as a pre-req for the game start. I really just want to finish the map and iron out some late breaking details now that most backgrounds are in working order. Everyone did a great job and there are a couple of places where I'd like to twist backgrounds into the overall plot.

If what you are saying is there is no chance of us starting tomorrow, I will turn in my stuff to you tomorrow. I've worked way too hard for a Sunday. You know the important stuff from my background anyway, there won't be any curve balls for you in there.
BTW, I don't have the big campaign book yet, what people of this world most resemble the Irish or Scots? Anyone know?
Pam, on last thing, what are your thoughts on mom's homeland? I was kind of hoping she could be "Mediterranean".

Isegrim's Tale
Isegrim was born along with his twin sister Reyna near the town of Wolf’s Ear. Their father was never in the picture, having been a mercenary soldier who had a brief, steamy affair with their mother and then moved along, never even knowing she had gotten with child. Their mother fell ill when they were 15 years old and passed away the next spring.
Several years ago on the twins’ 20th birthday Isegrim returned home by the light of a full moon after a long day of hunting, a prize stag slung across his shoulders. From his right he caught a blur of movement and a flash of red eyes and white teeth as a heavy, snarling weight bowled him over.
The stag dropped to the ground and Isegrim got to his feet, facing his attacker. It was a large and vicious wolf, all of its fury focused on him. They circled one another several times, each looking for an opening. The wolf suddenly charged, leaping towards Isegrim. He fell to his back and kicked up with his feet, using the beast’s own momentum against it. The snapping jaws closed inches in front of Isegrim’s face and its claws raked deep furrows along his left jawline as the wolf went flipping over him.
There was a brief yelp and a snapping sound and Isegrim got to his feet and turned around to see the beast impaled upon the dead stag’s rack of wicked antlers. His relief at his own luck quickly turned to horror; before his eyes the wolf changed forms into his beloved sister Reyna. The red eyes changed to familiar amber ones, a tear rolling down her smooth cheek. With her last breath she said, "I'm sorry..I... I couldn't control it."
Isegrim fell to his knees, futilely trying to make sense of what had just happened. He looked up to the full moon and let out a primal howling scream, tears and blood flowing down his face and mingling with Reyna's on the floor. The next day he buried her next to their mother on a nearby hill covered in aspen trees. He did his best to sew up his face, but he would forever bear the scars of that night...in more ways than one.
Isegrim gathered his belongings and set off. He didn’t know where he was going but he knew he couldn’t stay there. Before he really knew what he was doing he found himself in service to Captain Smythe aboard the Reefrunner, a merchant ship working Ember Lake and points beyond out to sea and north up the coast. The Captain was a good-hearted man, although definitely not averse to padding his coffers via the transport of a few undeclared goods now and again.
About a month ago they put in at Riddleport, all the sailors abuzz about the blot hanging in the sky. As the ship passed under the great arch, Isegrim had an epiphany of sorts. Sure, he had drawn a hard lot in life, but he sure as all hells wouldn't improve that lot by continuing to run. It was time to make a stand and reclaim his life. He parted ways on good terms with Smythe, an optimistic gleam in his eye for the first time in too long.
After asking around he found a decent inn and took a room. Being just worldly enough to know the best source of information about a new town is the closest bartender, Isegrim struck up a fast friendship with a priest of Cayden Cailean named Trystan Glenfauran.
The Publican's House has become Isegrim's de facto home, and the clergy seem to like having him around. More than one fight has been broken up before it really started when the would-be pugilists glimpsed the large man standing nearby looking their way, the hilt of his greatsword poking above his shoulder.
Of late all talk has been of the Cheat the Devil and Take His Gold tournament at the Gold Goblin. Isegrim has worked so hard for what he has, and although he is impulsive in many ways, he's not a gambler. But far be it from him to tell another man what to do with his own hard-earned money.
Even though he's not inclined to enter the tournament, there's no doubt that he will attend. With Riddleport's reputation, if Trystan wants to go then Isegrim will be there at his back. While Trystan concentrates on his games, Isegrim will watch everywhere else to make sure the establishment itself is on the level and also to help deter any would-be muggers should Trystan fill his pockets with any winnings.
With a smile, Isegrim raises a finger from the bar to indicate it's time for another ale. Trystan slides it down the rail with practiced ease, not so much as a drop of the "holy water" sloshing over the rim.
Yup, life is good.

Varisian is probably the closest to Mediterranean I think..maybe with traces of the old Azlanti blood
Lia Smythe |
I have Knowledge Local and many skills relating to gambling and 'roguery'. I'm looking at maybe multi-classing to include wizard skills at some time in the future. That's it for stats for now; check out my character sheet on Luke's web-site once he does that. And now, onto the good stuff; Lia's story.
She dropped the hood of her cloak and began to walk the room, certain no one would recognize her. As she pushed through the crowd someone jostled her shoulder, still sore from where she had taken a blow earlier. “Dodge the son, only to be surprised by the father,” she thought, as she rolled her shoulder to ease the stiffness from what she was certain to become an ugly bruise. “You’d think I’d know better by now.” She shook off the anger and took control of her emotions once again. “Not yet, not here,” she thought as she continued on. She spied her prey sitting at a corner table, betting on cards.
At first glance the man seemed handsome, well-clothed, and cheerful. Upon further inspection, Lia noticed the small bulge in his pocket, and knew he wasn’t the gentleman gambler he was playing. He had already conducted his business for the night, and was giving himself some ‘well-deserved’ play time. Though Lia knew he wasn’t playing. This was business, and the rough cunning in his eyes flashed when he thought others weren’t looking. “Half-breed bastard!” Lia thought, then smiled, because so was she. Not as bitter about it as him; she knew full well where she came from; her father had made sure of that. She gave him a silent salute as she walked away. “See Father, I do listen; just not to you,” she thought, careful not to draw attention to herself as she wove her way through the press of people. “Vengeance shall be mine, just not this night.”

Varisian translates roughly to 'gypsy', and is very well represented in Riddleport. I'm not sure the Irish or scots analogy exists in Golarion at this point. There's a 'scandinavian' flavor to the Ulfen race. Not sure what part of the scots/irish ethnicity you're looking for.
As for Mediterranean, do you mean like greek/turkey/palestine? Or more like italian? Or the African variety? If you want something that would stand out and make mom 'exotic', I would go with Keleshite (arabic).

Man, I want a story...
There once was a kid from Nantucket, who lived in the city, until one day, said...
I guess I'll keep working on it. Luke, I need something to go on with the Uplander thing. I think that's all I'm lacking.
I know it. There's an email half-composed on my desktop but I have to go do some craft thingy with the kids. I'll get what I have to you this afternoon, but it is not very much.

All good. I'm happy to be this far along to be honest.

Craft thingy went splendidly. Chipotle grill, violin group lessons, Harry Potter read aloud and "You're a mean one, Mr. Grinch" later, and I'm back at my desktop and my half-composed reply to Chris! It's comin' man...
ain't-Drizzt, now that the map is done I've had a chance to actually look through that test site and it is very nice. That's definitely superior to what I was considering using based on what I see. If it can be password restricted and hosts maps and links I'm a happy man. I don't see the management options in your email, though.

Can you send me an email with everyone's email addresses? From there I can add them as collaborators. I just made it private, so until I add them in you and me are the only ones who can see the site.

alright, everyone has been sent invites to the campaign website at
http://sites.google.com/site/pathfindershadowinthesky/
If you have any issues getting in just let me know and I'll figure it out.
I'll set up a page for each of your characters and you can customize them any way you want. Have fun with it.. you literally cannot screw anything up.
The basics are to go to the Edit Page button at the top right. Then you'll get an edit bar across the top.
At left there's a button to insert images or whatever else and then you'll also see the standard text editing tools.
There's a great help site too if you have any questions

Isegrim, everything that's already there is just a copied template from something else you've done, correct? I'm free to tear this site down and build it back up again without hosing anything you rely on?

Seen you guys posting back and forth, but I was hell bent on finishing. I'll check out the campaign site tomorrow some time. Night all.
Cool, sounds good! Can't wait to get rockin.
The new character info posted above is great.
Was everyone able to log into the site?
There are pages for each character accessible from the nav bar on the left. Those are your playgrounds.. have fun!

It's a quarter to 1 and I've been working on my backstory since 9 tonight. Overkill? Probably, but it I am really, really digging it.
I'll post it in the 'morrow, I promise.
Pam, a heads up. I put something in there that I am only sending you and Luke which would have some minor impact on your characters background. My hope is that you find it so clever and moving that you choose to adopt it. If not, I'll be happy to remove it. The writer in me just kicked in tonight and I think it adds yet another layer of drama.
Like I said, if you hate it, it's gone.
More tomorrow. Time to watch a Doctor Who (season 4). Then bed.
