Me thinks Chris just made a joke at my expense....not sure however, it just doesn't add up. (Wait for it, wait for it...)
I wanted to say I agree with Andrew's take on the whole thing; I'm going to play my character a certain way and not being incented with experience points changes nothing. In case ya'll hadn't noticed, I do what I want no matter what the rules say. You have that advantage when you've birthed the DM's kids.... :)

DM Luke |

I'm really more of a 'what have you done for me lately' kind of guy...

And Luke, awesome job with the image maps man. Was going to mention that in future fights it might be cool to have the enemy tokens link to full-size images if available. In Imageready the imagemap link areas move with layers so once created the first time you don't have to redo them every time a token is moved. Just re-export the image and upload it over the old one on the site.

A little tip for everyone. If you attach a pdf of your character sheet to the bottom of your character page, it gives you access to all of your character info anywhere you have an internet connection. When you click on the pdf it opens up in Google Docs reader, so you don't even have to have acrobat on the computer you're using. It also gives the DM easy access to your sheet if it's necessary. If you don't have the ability to create pdfs, send me your sheet in whatever format you have and I can do it. Or there are plenty of websites out there that convert for free.

Can I Call My Guy Drizzt? |

Bad news Michael, you're stuck with the Drizzt thing. Just too funny to ignore. :)
haha :) It was great when it happened. We had put feelers out for a new player in our home game and he asked us that in the trial run we had with him..completely serious. We laughed and he just stared at us like, "what?? what's so funny?" Any time someone rolls up a new character now they inevitably toss that out for a laugh.

And since Luke isn't calling me out, I'll fess up. The names of my last two table game characters were J., yes, just the letter; and "Slash" because on my character sheet where I was supposed to write a name I had entered a '-' because I couldn't come up with anything!
I feel certain Chris would have used this as well, if only he had known! Glad I could be there for you!

DM Luke |

That's actually because the name she came up with was so bad, it had to be abolished. Faren? Ferrel? I can't remember, but it was a cleric traveling with a party of ruthless cutthroats. We named him 'stroke' in protest, as I recall. He wasn't very naughty. We had to drag him into trouble everywhere we went.

Sounds like he should have been named Square

Wanted to share the character I'm working on for our new home campaign. Just finished up the picture and I think it turned out cool. He's Gaff Saltbeard, a dwarven cleric of Gozreh (nature, weather, and the sea)
He has a sun- and wind-burned bald head he covers with a large floppy hat and a long blue/black beard into which he weaves shells, coral, pearls, hooks, etc and ties into two forks with loops of rough rope.
He wears around his neck a massive tooth onto which has been scrimshawed various runes and pictograms he swears will lead to a great treasure when they are deciphered. His father and his grandfather before him have possessed the tooth. He wields his deity's favored weapon (the trident), and carries a buckler.
His initial skills are Linguistics (he is well-traveled and has a knack for languages), knowledge:religion, and Sense motive
He is the classic "salty dog" although he has a soft spot for children. Where his looks and mannerisms are off-putting and downright scary to many adults, children see him as an interesting character and recognize that his gruffness is show to some degree.
He often relates stories about his grandfather ("Ol' Sharky"), who was "thrice the sailor any of these clods could ever dream to be". If anyone notices that sometimes their own stories are told back to them starring Ol Sharky, they wisely keep it to themselves.
That's all I've got so far. Would love to hear any comments or ideas y'all might have.

Added some more gear to Gaff. Whatcha think? And Luke, if you'd rather I not discuss this here let me know.

Puh-lease. This is the place for table talk. We usually talk about way dumber stuff at the table. Characters from other games are actually almost on-subject. 8)

Here's some flavor text I came up with to go along with the new picture..
You'll notice Gaff's prize collection of keys (one day he'll find the locks they go to), which share a keyring with his favorite spoon.
The scrimshawed tooth around his neck has been passed down from his grandfather Old Sharkey along with the compass in the pouch on his belt. The tooth is covered in runes and pictographs that are certain to lead to a vast treasure..once they are deciphered. The compass doesn't always point north, and the only logical conclusion is that it is highly magical and mysterious. Old Sharkey wouldn't have owned (let alone passed down) a broken compass, after all.
He carries a green jug of fresh water, and below that slung on his hip is his map case and another family heirloom. A red liquid sloshes around in a thick glass vial. Within is blood from the ancient black dragon Old Sharkey slew single-handedly.
At his left hip hangs his buckler and his hammer. Surprisingly, these have no story associated with them. They are simply sturdy and serviceable (qualities which Gaff values greatly).
Gaff was walking along the docks one day when he saw a man who had met his early demise slumped against a wall in an alley. Seeing as how the dead have very little need of head-wear (especially of the sturdy and serviceable variety), Gaff was more than happy to accept it as a gift to cover his bald and sun-blistered head. The seagull skull is a personal addition and good luck talisman.

Wow, I forgot about Stroke. We did have to drag her opps I mean him into everything.
Luke I'll bring everything over later. Maybe you can send my sheet to these guys or upload it or whatever computer magic you boys do.

If one of you will get it to me I'll get Rees' stat block done and added to her page. Same goes for Lia
Both of their backstory pages are looking rather vacant still too :)

Really cool character concept Mike.
Thanks man! I'm really looking forward to playing him. I'm so visually-oriented that it works best for me to find/edit a picture and then back into a class, backstory, etc from there.
To a large degree I think that also came from the frustration of coming up with an awesome picture in my mind of this great character concept and then not being able to find the right picture to represent it.
I can't draw to save my life, so I'm stuck cobbling together pictures from other peoples' work.

Pamela |

I must say, you guys crack me up! I WISH it was a table conversation! And Luke is right, just this once. Michael is actually on-topic with his character, which by the way, looks great. I've always wanted to play a dwarf, and if any here make a short joke I'll hurl a virtual Dorito at you!
And Andrew, I wouldn't call it a party per se, just burgers on the grill. The kids all have school tomorrow!
And just a heads up for everybody...Luke and I are taking the kids on vacation starting Tuesday next week and will be gone for the week. I'm not sure we'll have access or time to post. We'll see.
Happy Sunday!

thanks! I've never played a dwarf either but I didn't want my first time to be a stereotypical "Gimli", ya know? Obviously there are some of those archetypes that I'm sure i'll fall back on but overall I think he'll be kind of unique.
Another thing I've decided to do is to not come up with a lengthy backstory for him. As you can see with Isegrim, that's something I obviously go a little overboard on sometimes.
The problem is that is pins you down on a lot of things before you've even sat down at the table. Certain opinions, reactions, etc have been predetermined by that manifesto.
It's good to have an idea of basic things, but I've come to realize it's kind of counterproductive and a bit of a time waster to put too much into it.
I think you end up with a more interesting and fully fleshed-out character if you let things that happen in the campaign determine what has happened in the character's past, if that makes sense.
When confronted with a question of character, this way you can determine in the moment how to react and then potentially make something up from the past to justify it. Whereas if you have volumes of information going in you have to search through it all to see how you are supposed to react to stay in character.
Anyway, kind of rambled on.. sorry bout that :)

DM Luke |

Just to be clear. That vacation is not this coming Tuesday, but the following (2/16).

DM Luke |

Haven't seen anything since the 1st. Just turned it back on now that the kids are out. Saints TD and lead.

DM Luke |

The upper floor of the gold goblin is updated. That is where the guided tour of the place will start... tomorrow. Night y'all.

Isegrim |

Just thought of something.. during that week when Luke and Pam are out of town, we could maybe do little flashbacks and roleplay scenes from our characters' pasts. Might be kind of fun from a development standpoint. What do y'all think?
And that second floor map is cool, Luke. Edited out my question. I'm sure you'll cover it in the tour

I think maybe you should try this vacation thing, you might like it! :)

DM Luke |

Listen to her talk! (type?)
She'll spend our entire vacation typing up parts of stories or funny blog entries - whatever.

Rees |

Sorry guys, I don't think I have the flashback thing in me. But I would be willing to bet that Luke may make a suprise post or two just to keep us on our toes.
Keeping the kids happy???? I would go with whatever keeps them occupied long enough to A)do what we want B)keep them busy or C)keeps them quiet for more then 5 minutes at a time!!

DM Luke |

Man that would be asking for trouble. I don't think a shot would put my son down. It would probably peg his goof-meter. I shudder to think...
And I would bet money it wouldn't put Kayla down. That girl is lightning in a bottle.
